The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Juliette grinned at Devon. He seemed relieved by her question. Was he expecting something a little less superficial, perhaps? She wondered what kind of questions he usually received that made him that nervous to receive one from her.
It made sense, actually. The internet seemed to be the go-to resource for everything of late. It was where she had found out about the place, after all.
The one thing she hadn't considered was Devon's mutation. Of course he was a mutant; she had assumed that much, but she hadn't really payed that much mind to what his mutation would actually be. Some people were easy to peg as telepaths, or their physical appearance gave some hint as to what they could do, but he offered no hints as to what his might be.
Juliette decided that it would be better to just ask rather than to try and guess. She moved into a more comfortable cross-legged position as she asked, "what is your mutation, exactly?"
Devon was at once proud and humble, eager to celebrate mutants and their power while simultaneously preferring to deter attention to himself. It was the idea of being studied he detested and that was likely more from his psychological problems than his abilities. He loved what he could do but hated the response it could evoke. It's why he avoided people in general, proving an introvert at most times. But here, things were changing for him and in large part that had again to do with mutants and helping them.
Of course, he already knew Juliette was a mutant and in this setting it made discussing such even easier. An amused half grin curled his lips, "Yeah I figured that was next." He nodded and gestured up with both hands raised, "I'm atmokinetic. I control the weather. Sunshine, clouds, wind, rain... And more. I can control it in the local area and I've practiced long and hard to produce singular effects when I want them."
"It's actually really nice to talk about in a venue and feel so open, so proud," Devon nodded again. "We should all have that feeling. And how about you if I might ask? You can produce light in different ways?"
"Weather manipulation?" Juliette repeated, mulling the words over. It was a very useful ability, one that could do a lot of good. She grinned at him, an idea suddenly coming to her. "Do you think you could make it rain a little less?"
"It is comforting," Juliette agreed. It was nice to know that she could talk freely without the fear of prejudice. She experienced the same feelings as he seemed to when people asked about her powers. A safe environment could be extremely helpful for young mutants looking for somewhere to stay.
"I can absorb and manipulate light," she told him. It was something she repeated fairly often, but it was the simplest way of explaining it. "It has quite a few uses, like blasts, flying, that kind of thing. And I guess as a flashlight, too, as you found out."
Devon nodded, smiling faintly when she said weather manipulation. He was proud of it and what he could do. There was more there deep inside him and his power, he knew there was. With time he was certain he'd unlock some far greater potential. Until then, he was no short straw.
He laughed at her joke but nodded again. At least in a small area he could make it rain less though of course if he kept that up it would assuredly affect the plants in that area. The environment had a balance to its chaos, a natural pattern few recognized but he could literally see.
The nodding continued as she explained her power, but it was hard to hold back she said flying. His eyes widened and brightened at that, though he held his tongue in exclamation. He smiled and chuckled at the flashlight joke. "So I did, and thankful too. I'd say you have a fairly luminous or effervescent personality too."
Devon stood and shook his head, "But flying? I'm quite jealous. I'm working quite hard to master wind control to the point of flight. Catch people falling? No problem. Send someone flying on a gust? Sure. But controlled flight? That's hard to become comfortable with that sort of control so to hear you can fly, well, I'm in awe. All of it really though, quite special. I hope you're proud of that and yet still your work in health care efforts too. I think as people see mutants for all their aspects they'll begin to see the powers less and the person more."
"Effervescent?" Juliette laughed. "Are you trying to say I'm bubbly?" The 'luminous' thing made sense, but she wasn't often told that she was enthusiastic.
She shrugged awkwardly as he complimented her flying. "I think you might be overestimating how good of a flier I am. It's way less cool than it sounds. It takes a ton of energy and I can't go very far. Honestly, wind flying sounds way better, even if it is harder." Maybe once he got the hang of it they would be able to go flying together. It wasn't often that she met people that shared that ability. People that she liked, that was.
"That is the ultimate goal, isn't it?" Juliette nodded, a little flustered by the compliment. "Separate the people from their mutations so people can see we aren't really that bad?" That sounded like a good end goal, at least. People needed to see that the people they were ostracizing really weren't that different from them.
Devon grimaced, realizing he was clearly coming off a bit like a fanboy at a comic convention. "Sorry, I can get a bit out of sorts when excited and I tend to favor words, sometimes too much, too many," he laughed. "You're energetic, literally. But really, I meant you're effervescent due to your enthusiasm for helping volunteer here. I really appreciate it and I'm sure many will."
"Maybe I'm overestimating, but anyone showing the dedication you have and especially considering you're already in a health care profession, I don't think I am. About the flying? Well you'll have to show me," he laughed again. Devon leaned against the wall and held his arms up again in a shrug, "I'm not so sure you'd say what I can do is better, but one day I hope so. My efforts are very important to me."
"I think they should be to all of us. It's definitely the ultimate goal personally, be proud of yourself and your abilities. We tell kids that all the time. Why should it be different for mutants?" Devon's brow narrowed as he smiled. "While at the same time we also show everything else we are, whom we are. They always say it's easy to hate a word but hard to not accept a person. I think we can achieve that here, but it's not going to be easy. We need effervescent people to help."
He chuckled and winked a blue orb. "How about we finish this tour and get you officially on board?"
Juliette laughed quietly at his comment. If she were to say anything about Devon, it would definitely be that he was enthusiastic. Apparently, though, she was giving off the same impression.
"Well, we'll have to make a point of comparing sometime, then." She suggested, "flying with someone else is an entirely unique experience. If there's ever a chance to do it, I'm in."
"It seems like you're already coming up with slogans for the place," Juliette winked. "You should really write some of those down. Maybe write them on a poster or something. But anyway, lets finish the tour. I'm interested to see what else this place has in store."
She slid down from the stretcher and brushed herself off, giving the infirmary one more look. There was so much they could do with the place. It just needed someone to do it.
