Mutations
Mutation description: Energy Perception/Negation:
Eric has the ability to perceive energy and negate it. His ability to see energy is one he needs to activate, when he does so, his eyes glow visibly. This ability allows him to view any sort of energy, wither it is in the visible spectrum or not. He is able to selectively filter the focus of his ability, allowing him to focus in on desired energy types. This allows him to view various energy connections present in the environment, like wireless connections, or psychic links, allowing him to follow such links to discover their destinations and sources. It also allows him to see in dark places by observing the different energies present in the environment, which usually will outline his surroundings.
Once Eric has identified an energy, he is able to negate it. Eric can generate a special, null energy at his hands that allow him negate the energy he targets that it comes in contact with, which propagates along energy lines, nullifying it as a whole. As such it he thrust his hand into a campfire, the entire campfire would go out. This allows him to negate physical and energy attacks and effects by negating the energy used in it as long as he can intercepts it with his hands. It also allows him to sever energy connections, breaking psychic links, wireless signals, or other such connected lines of energy. If such connections are 'continuous', the propagation effect continues until the present 'signal' is turned off, as such if Eric severed a wireless computer signal, it could not re-establish a connection until each device had been shut down completely and turned back on before it could connect to that source once more. The same applies to psychic abilities with areas of effect, though traveling out of the range of the ability will also allow a new connection to be made.
Strengths: As long as Eric can intercept an attack with his hand, he can negate it. This lets him bypass most offensive or defensive abilities that stem from energy effects to affect things that may otherwise be immune. His ability to see energy gives him a lot of insight into his surroundings, and allows him to identify and react to attacks sooner since he can see the energy as it comes.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Despite being able to bypass certain defenses, it should be noted that Eric is no stronger then a regular human even if he is above average, thus if a person is naturally resilient in addition to having some form of shielding, a punch would still have little effect. While he can negate kinetic energy, he cannot negate weight, thus can still be crushed by a naturally heavy object despite canceling out any additional kinetic energy. Because he needs to be able to touch the energy in question, physical shielding can prevent him from negating it. For instance he could not negate the electricity running through a wire if it's isolated by plastic/rubber, as cables usually are. He would need to cut through said insulation and touch the bare wire in order to touch the electricity directly.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Athletic and flexible from years of training, considered above average human agility, reflexes, and speed, while his strength and durability and that of someone who works out vigorously(around 600 lb). He had great hand eye coordination, being familiar with several types of firearms as part of his training. In conjunction with his perception, he is able to coordinate aim predict incoming fire or attacks in time to intercept them with his hands
Fighting Style: Eric has trained a lot to use his abilities effectivly. His close fighting style incorporates various fighting techniques that use the hands, such as open palm, punching, pressure point blows and grip/throws that disable and pin. In ranged combat he prefers his custom M1911 pistols.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: His close fighting techniques mostly revolve around hand and upper body techniques, thus if his hands are bound, it loses much of it’s effectiveness. However, his techniques are excellent in disabling even opponents physically stronger then him by striking sensitive pressure points and weak points.
Equipment:
Custom M1P11 pistols: Two semi-automatic pistols designed to Eric’s specification to optimize his accuracy and draw speed, as even with powers, sometimes you need to bring a gun to a gun fight.
Underarmor: Standard issue bulletproof kevlar vest that Eric wears beneath his clothes, which can deflect lower caliber gunfire.
Flight harness: Issued as part of his Raziel cover, a device fitted to his underarmor that enables short distance flight (roughly 10 mins between charges) and projects holographic wings.
History Of Your Character Eric was was born with his powers at least partially active, as was evident from his eyes, which would periodically glow. His white hair only made it easier to make that conclusion. Eric grew up with the ability to see energy around him, a fact that often distracted him while his control was still underdeveloped as he would see the patterns of energy that would criss cross everything. Other children picked up on this as he would 'space out' when these things happened, making him the weird kid. Still he didn't have a necessarily bad childhood. He got teased sometimes, but people were not openly hostile, mostly because he didn't show any external sign of an active ability, and Eric usually didn't share what he saw, having had his being a mutant explained to him since he was young. Thus he avoided any major incidents until his teens.
When he was 13, he and his parents were at a bank when a mutant thief decided to rob the place, using his powers of energy blasts in place of weapons. They may have gotten out unscathed, that is if someone hadn't decided to play hero, shooting the guy in the leg with a concealed gun. The man lost control from the pain of his injury, letting loose waves of energy blasts. It was then that Eric's own powers fully developed, as the blast headed his way, he held up his hands as a defensive reaction, only to have the energy vanish as it touched them. Unfortunately it was not before his parents had been killed by the wave, leaving Eric orphaned.
The incident ended with the robber being apprehended and taken in. Eric was with the police as people were questioned, when Eric was approached by a man in a suit. Eric explained what had happened from his perspective, and the man told him it would be okay, and he was going to be taken to a special place. The man was from an Mutant Affairs Borough, an english devision that worked on mutant incidents. With no next of kin to take care of him, the Borough took Eric in and began training him in the use of his powers, which they saw as giving him a distinct advantage in safely diffusing mutant incidents. Eric was trained in hand to hand combat, and detaining techniques, eventually becoming an agent of the Borough becoming one of their top agents.
With an increase in mutant activity worldwide, the Borough decided to send agents out to investigate and gather data. Eric was stationed in New York, his instructions to investigate the mutant activity and work independently, sending periodic reports to the Borough. Eric set himself up, working under the moniker Raziel in the position of a bounty hunter as cover as he worked to diffuse mutant incidents.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Found it. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Wolf Sample RP:
Eric walked down the hallway, the florescent lights casting a artificial feeling. He had walked it several times before, it felt a little weird to think this would be the last time for a while. He had of course been briefed on his assignment, apparently he was supposed to investigate New York’s recent spiking of mutant activity. With robots walking the streets, numerous ‘bombings’ of a mutant school, and the increase in extremist activities, they wanted someone over there to keep an eye on things. Just as the States had bases stationed all over the world, it was in their best interest to have someone on the scene in case the next superpower human nuke came out of it. Of course he was supposed to stay under the radar, no point in having anyone in the White House throwing a fit over having a British agent looking over the proverbial shoulder. Which brought him to the present situation.
He pushed open the door and walker through. Walter was at his work bench, a number of sparks flying off his current project. Walter was the resident tech genius who handled most of the ‘toys’ they gave the agents. Wither it was their high tech communications network, tailored devices for assignments, or his own custom pistols, Walter was the guy to see for anything that had wires or moving parts. “Hey Walt, what do you have for me?” Eric said as he approached. The man jerks suddenly, surprised by Eric’s ‘sudden’ greeting. Walt had a tendency to get sucked into his work to the point of being oblivious to anything else. If anyone ever dropped a nuke, he would likely still be working long after everyone was dead, shielded by tons of lead and concrete on all sides of the labs. “Geezus, don’t scare me like that, you almost turned this place into a crater.” he said, catching his breath. It was hard to tell if he was joking or not, Walt tended to go through a number of assistants, and his experiments had resulted in some amount PTS from his less… exuberant colleges.
“So your here for your gear?” he asked stating the obvious. It was what any agent would be there for, “Lucky you, you get to scrap it up with the Yanks.” he pushed off from the bench, the chair rolling across the floor before spinning and Walter stood up, walking to on of the storage lockers, typing in a code before it swung open. “They’re sending me in under the code name Raziel, I’m taking it you thought that up?” Said Eric, he had his suspicions, Walter seemed to get his kicks out of theming his gadgets. “Guilty,” said Walter, pulling out one of the underarmor vests and tossing it his way, “Try that on.”
“Not going to blow up on me is it?’ Said Eric cautiously. You never quite knew with Walt. “Of course not, it’s been fully tested, 98% sure you’ll be fine.” Eric looked over the vest, his eyes shifting as he checked it out, cycling through the energy frequencies for anything dangerous. Or nuclear. Luckily it seemed for the most part to be plain circuitry, the pulse of electricity running through it didn’t seem to carry anything that would explode. So he slipped on the vest, “So is this supposed to be more durable then our regular ones?” he asked, “I see theres a bit more electronics running through this one.”
“No, the vest isn’t any different, it’s just got a harness attached,” said Walt. “A harness for what exactly?” To late he noticed the remote in Walt’s hand, and before he could attempt the take the vest off, Walt had pressed the button. There was a sudden jerk before he was pulled off his feet, it felt like he had just been picked up like a kite in the wind. That was almost what it looked like too as the device pulled him into the air. Eric almost hit the ceiling before he leveled out, and he saw he was… hovering. He examined his position and saw, well, they looked like… “Wings?” he said, not that he wasn’t impressed but it seemed a bit flashy for his cover… wait. Raziel. The name of the Angel of Mysteries, if they were giving him a cover, he guessed they were trying to mask his powers as well. “So I’m supposed to be an angel then?” He questioned. “Well you gotta get about fast over there,” said Walt, ”New York’s got some big buildings, your going to need an extra boost when you need to make a less conventional entrance.”
Eric looked back over the wings, they weren’t showing up in his energy perception, not real it looked like, all the lift seemed to be coming from a device on his back. He sifted his weight, testing it out, and he floated to one side. “So how long do they last?” he asked. “About ten minutes, give or take, before it’ll go into recharge mode, I suggest being on the ground before that happens.” It was decent, he didn’t need that long to get quickly up a story or two. It was obviously more of a transport device, it wouldn’t be all that great in a fight, it was more likely to interfere with his particular way of fighting but it would by handy in a pinch. And it would do to cover for his powers, it wasn’t like he could always hide his mutant status with a bunch of mutant detecting robots, he would need some form of cover when questioned about his powers.
