The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mr. Jaager was the right level of angry, again. He was calm and collected and giving out death threats. Panu tucked his shoulders guiltily at the man's Why don't we all stick to English, and did not do anything when he said he would kill Noel. There was nothing he could do. Being eight was stupid and awful and even if he could help his new best Finnish-speaking friend he didn't know if he would, because if she could not kill Jaager than she was not stronger than Jaager, and he needed an adult who was strong.
So he was like a docile stupid useless lamb as Jaager threatened, and Noel responded.
She was much better at Dutch than he was.
"Noel is very useful psychic," the boy said in English, because that is what Jaager had told him to use and he would not risk making him angry(er). "Probably more useful on your payroll than dead."
It was a very mild suggestion, spoken softly. Inside his hoodie he crossed his fingers, and inside his shoes he crossed his toes. Please please please see that she was the most awesome and best thing in this stupid country.

So she had understood him when he'd spoken Dutch. Not only that, but she'd called him out on a lie. Interesting. He'd have to determine the extent of her powers later. When she spoke next, it was in Dutch again, but what was unnerving was the fact that it was Ambrose's Dutch. She spoke exactly as he did, even slurring her vowels in the way that had irritated Ambrose's father to no end, and overenunciated the "d" in "Nederlands" - the Dutch word for "Dutch" - in the same way that Ambrose did. That was slightly uncomfortable, to say the least.
Before Ambrose could respond to Noel, Panu spoke, asking him very subtly to please not kill her. Ambrose sighed. This situation had gotten absurdly out of hand so very quickly, and there wasn't much he could do to bring it back under control.
"<Let's stick to English,>" he said, almost exasperated. "<Though I would suppose you need your English back in order for that to happen.>" He was guessing she'd have to copy his English in order to do so, which would not help Panu too much. English had been Ambrose's second language, learned after Dutch, and he took far too many liberties with the language, and definitely more than he really should.
"<If you want, we could find someone with better English than me for you to get your English back with.>" There. That seemed like the best course of action. Having to take care of a child was more stressful than anticipated, especially when one had to make sure that the child's English tutor could speak English again and that she wasn't law enforcement in some shape or form.
Panu's English made her head hurt. Could they really just settle on one language for now? Jaager seemed to agree, only, he agreed in the wrong direction.
Noel tried to appear magnanimous with a professional smile even though she felt a bit murderous. "<I would prefer Dutch.>" She relished the over-enunciation of the "d" in Nederlands, not even sure why the act brought her a flush of pleasure. "<For now, the language should not matter for Panu. This will be more comfortable for you and I would prefer not to swap again so soon.>" Her brain was already complaining by supplying an annoying high pitched buzzing sound that she could have sworn was coming from somewhere behind her left ear.
"<If you insist on me reverting to English, I will need some time and a willing... partner.>" The hint of strain to her smile was warranted. Pulling mental memories from anything less than a face was a pain that, in this case specifically, had resulted in error last time. If she was peeking at memories, it was best to get something from where the memories were actually housed rather than, say, Mr. Jaager's hands.
The blond boy's shoulders relaxed into a relieved slump. Jaager was talking now about finding someone for her to copy English from. This was a future action. So probably he was not thinking of killing her right now any more.
Panu had been told to speak English, so he continued speaking English, even though everyone else was speaking Dutch. This was a thing that adults liked to do, where they said one thing, then did the other. It was a trap and he would not fall for it.
“Any language is okay,” the boy affirmed (even though Finnish was very clearly better. Noel spoke it now, so probably she understood.) “It is okay now that I have hired tutor? Probably I need some help to set up payroll deposit for her. I can do it, but it is more legal if your HR does it for me.”
She had agreed to meet him weekly already. Now that Jaager thought she was official tutor, not new Best Friend, clearly she needed a paycheck as well. Payroll deposits were very good for funding more gelato than they could ever eat.
