The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

“Kind of reminds me of something I read about. A book in the library had a few articles about mutants. There's one that talks about the curse and blessing attitudes towards mutations. Like how some would be cast out from a church for possessing powers granted by the devil, while others would become the object of worship themselves. It was interesting.”
He nodded in silent agreement, it seemed to be the general consensus on how most people felt about mutation. Human or mutant, it didn't matter. "It makes sense...Honestly, treating it like it was the work of the devil sounds very familiar. It's how people back where I used to live treated it. Lots of fire and brimstone sermons." He remembered being fairly frightened of the idea of mutants before he became one. "When I was a kid I thought I was honestly possessed."
"...I think I actually heard more of the curse side of things than blessing. Being here or with other mutants has been on the more blessing side. Though, hard to keep up the positivity when mutations can do so much damage to the mutant themselves." He glanced over at Clyde and put on a smile, trying to shrug off the doom and gloom, "It's not so bad though! Thing could be way worse."

“Yikes.” Clyde shuddered. “I never thought about mine that way. There weren't too many religious zealots where I was from. But, a lot of people were paranoid about mutants. The fact that some used their powers to go on killing sprees didn't help.” As someone who grew up around a journalist, he knew very well such individuals could, and sometimes did, cause widespread panic.
He gave a quiet nod. “I suppose,” he replied with a small grin. “I know there are people working to properly educate others about mutations. We could all use that.”

(Sorry for the super late reply, here's the wrap-up.) “I never thought about mine that way. There weren't too many religious zealots where I was from. But, a lot of people were paranoid about mutants. The fact that some used their powers to go on killing sprees didn't help.”
He merely nodded, there really wasn't much to add to that. It was all pretty much true. The religion as a reason to persecute a group of people was a bit more common in places where the community was more tight-knit. Small pockets of civilization in comparison to the larger cities and suburbs around the country. Possibly around the world.
“I suppose, I know there are people working to properly educate others about mutations. We could all use that.”
He smiled and again nodded, "Yeah, if all goes well their will be more steps forward than steps back. Personally, I just wish there was more research done on mutations. Not a lot of good, unbiased studies out there." Alex was rather curious to know what made mutants like himself and others tick. Why and how it came about were big questions sure. But the question of how some of them even worked was important too.
He covered his mouth as he yawned and stretch, looking back at the swarm still calmly buzzing behind him. They had been talking for a while hadn't they. "Anyway, I ought to get back to practicing. You can stick around and watch if you want."
If Clyde stuck around, he'd witness Alex attempting to heard the swarm into 3D shapes, strengthening his control over delicate positioning. If not, if Clyde decided that he'd rather find a quieter place to read, that was okay too. For Alex, it was just nice to have some company.

“Tell me about it,” Clyde grumbled. His father pounced on those sort of studies. A sickeningly high number of them were done by political organizations and demonologists rather than real scientists. Fudged-up studies weren't the only reason for mutant discrimination, but they sure didn't help.
>> “Anyway, I ought to get back to practicing. You can stick around and watch if you want.”
“Oh. Right.” The reason he'd first approached Alex was because the practice session was so loud, but they ended up talking for quite some time. “I'll let you be, then. Good luck with that.”
As Clyde was leaving, he looked over his shoulder to see the bugs swarming in precise geometric structures. It was quite the spectacle; he had to acknowledge the skill the feat likely took. His attention then turned back to the book he was holding. Time to find a noiseless place to read.
