The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The Mansion was secure, and with the sense of duty relieved, the anger had returned. Maybe it wasn't the X-man way, killing, getting revenge. But after what happened to CS, Evelyn didn't care. She justified it, saying there was a bad guy, and they needed to take care of the threat. But in her heart, she knew there was an underlying, somewhat darker desire. You didn't just kill and x-men, cause that much pain, suffering, and expect to get away with it. Whatever the reasoning, the result was the same:
Hunting.
And Mirror was beside her.
It was hard to tell if Mirror felt what they were doing was right. Evelyn still had trouble herself. but regardless, something had to be done. Not just any mutant could take out CS. It was dangerous, but part of her was still convinced the attack hadn't been fair. If CS was on his game, he would have won. They must have done something, ganged up on him, anything. CS wouldn't go down without a fight. Mirror and her worked good together, they could handle whatever this mutant was.
She hoped.
The doubt didn't linger long as the pain and anger returned.
"Do we know what this guy looks like?" She remarked as they scanned the city, looking for signs of the mutant. Her sai were strapped to her back, and hopefully Mirror brought the throwing stars.
Being on the hunt felt all kinds of wrong from an X-men point of view, but it was too late to stop now. Gawain made sure all his gear was in order, and checked Evelyn's too for good measure. He had been on more missions than she had, and he was, technically, a team leader. Evelyn had her sai, her stars, and her instincts. There was no one else on the team he would have trusted more with this.
"No" he said shortly, looking up and down the alley they were patrolling "But I do know what he's gonna look like when we're done with him."
Evelyn nodded at Gawain's response, and mentally went through a list of the information they knew, and options on how to go from here. Deciding to teach someone a lesson was one thing, but knowing where to find them was turning into a different problem. She paused, looking across the street at some of the local stores.
"If we start where he was at, maybe one of the stores saw something, or a camera caught what the guy looked like..." It would have been easier to ask the other x-men, but this operation was somewhat on the rogue side of things, which made it a little harder to do that.
>>"If we start where he was at, maybe one of the stores saw something, or a camera caught what the guy looked like..."
"I'm pretty sure the team already picked up all of that." Gawain sighed "But I thought we should take a look at the crime scene anyway. They have good detectives, but they don't have you."
Evelyn was a decent fighter, which was a requirement for the X-team. But when it came to picking up clues, she was unbeatable, and they both knew it.
Gawain looked around, checking street signs. The alley they stood in was sparsely lit, but there was no doubt they were in the right place.
"We're here" he said, feeling himself tense up from the knowledge that they were at the scene of Sam's last stand "Let's see what we can find."

As they stepped into the alley, Evelyn tensed slightly as she stood and looked around. A small trace of fear wound it's way up her spine as she gazed around, taking in the damage, although much had already been cleared away and documented by the detectives. It was hard to even feel flattered by Gawain's compliment. She wanted to believe her powers could be useful piecing this together, but she had her own doubts. Being called "Holmes" as a teasing gesture was one thing. Living up to the name was another thing entirely.
"They picked up a bit...although there may be clues here the police might not have thought to pick up on. The damage to some of these buildings, for instance... Not all of this is blunt force damage. If you look at the cracks and structural distress, some of this is more reminiscent of an earthquake, or something similar. Vibration, seismic? It could say something about their powers..." She scanned the walls closer, letting the echoes think. There were smaller nicks and breaks where stray objects had flown. Not wide enough to be a bullet. Maybe a knife? It was closer to the damage from her throwing stars than other weapons she had seen. She frowned, trying not to feel queasy when she spotted a few stray blood stains. Despite best efforts, this was still a crime scene, and time hadn't taken that away yet.
"Plenty of water damage. He was obviously fighting back." It was hard to breathe. She wanted to stay detached from it, but the anger was rising. Focus... She told herself. They needed to sort out who did this. She needed to think of trajectories, map out the scene. What happened...

Gawain narrowed his eyes and tried to see what Evelyn was seeing. He could make out the patterns, but as for their cause, he relied on her expertise. He also kept an eye out for movement, in order to let Evelyn concentrate. His hand was still on the bow.
>>"Plenty of water damage. He was obviously fighting back."
"That's good." Gawain nodded, looking around "That means they didn't have to power to just... turn his brain off or something. That means we actually have a fighting chance."
Probably. Maybe.
"So, you say it's... what, earth powers? People would have felt that. Earthquakes in New York are not that common... How about sound? Did people report sound?..."
Evelyn shut her eyes and searched he memories for the police reports they had received. Sifting through the crime scene data, looking for the first hand accounts. Sound, sound, sound... Finally she opened her eyes, her irises pure grey with the blue gone now. "There were reports of some loud noises. They said it almost sounded like a screech or a roar of some type, a loud yell.... Supersonic voice? Like a banshee maybe? That would explain why CS..." Her voice cut out and she took another breathe, focusing on the task at hand.
"Sound like that would be powerful against an ice mutant. The vibrations would shatter the ice, make it hard to defend against. Not to mention it's disorienting... Unfortunately, that would mean we'd need to be careful going after him. You wouldn't want to be caught in a mirror around a guy like that." Evelyn warned, frowning as she tried to think. "We have the throwing stars, those should be okay."

"It's never easy, is it" Gawain sighed, looking around again. Sound did not only mean the mutant was dangerous, it also meant that he was ranged. And mirrors were out. Dammit all.
The two young mutants moved around in the alley, looking for clues. And all the while they kept their eyes around, they were being observed from above.
Leo was alone. It was his choice, or more of a result if his choice to go back to the scene of the crime, hoping for exactly what happened: For some young and stupid mutant kids to come looking for sensation, or maybe for revenge. Leo was not exactly working according to plan in this one, but he had no patience for working through the planned channels.
The echoes weren't exactly up to the level of most mutant sixth sense, but sometimes, they were close enough. While standing in the alley, Evelyn could hear them jabbing about something that didn't quite seem right. A movement nearby, just out of the corner of her eye. Without thinking she reached for the throwing stars, and gripped them in her hand.
[Danger.] Simple, to the point. Maybe they didn't have to tray this guy after all. They wanted revenge? Maybe it was time to get it.
"Someone is here." She whispered to Mirror quietly, while pointing at another wall and mentioning something about the broken bricks. Not quite relevant, not what she wanted to point out, but it gave her the opportunity to pass one of the stars to Gawain. On the rooftop, Leo crouched, ready to strike. As he opened his mouth to roar, one of the stars struck the ground next to him, and the blast of sound went a bit high, but still managed to send the powerful reverberations into the alley below.
Gawain watched Evelyn tense up, and took the throwing star from her, glancing into the reflecting surface. He caught the movement in it from the roof a moment before Evelyn acted, throwing the other star upwards. The roar, or screech, hit nevertheless with a surprising force and ear-splitting volume.
"Get away from the windows!" Gawain yelled to Eve, merging into the surface of the throwing star, and bolting for the other one up on the building. He came up way too close to the larger mutant, abandoning his plan to shoot, so he aimed a kick at him instead, sending him staggering backwards and over the edge of the roof. Leo, however, was too well trained to fall; he caught himself on the fire escape, and bolted back up over the edge of the roof, yelling in anger. Gawain scurried backwards to gain enough distance for a shot.
When Mirror acted, Evelyn was already lining up for the next throw. As Leo turned to face Mirror, the metal star buried himself in the mutants back; his next roar was one of anger and slight pain. Mentally, Evelyn was learning: studying her enemy. But something didn't seem right. She just couldn't figure out what yet.
"Try to stay out of his direct line of fire. We don't want to find out what the full force of that screech does." Evelyn muttered into the com while throwing another star for Mirror to jump to. Range was going to be better right now, to reduce the potency of the mutants powers. But that also put her in a disadvantage since her sai were better up close and personal.
The nagging continued in the back of her mind. The damage to the bricks that looked like a weapon, not like something this guy would wield. Something about the crime scene... "Mirror, I think there were two attackers with CS. I'm sure this is one of our guys, he seems like he came alone this time, but we should watch his strategy. If he's used to having a ranged guy watching his back, maybe you can get a good shot at him when he's distracted or something." It wasn't much yet, but it was the start of a plan.
Leo, meanwhile, found the stars an annoyance at this point, but nothing he found seriously threatening. It was like a couple of kids poking him with sticks. In his throat, he was building up a roar, waiting for the right moment to unleash it.
>>"Try to stay out of his direct line of fire. We don't want to find out what the full force of that screech does."
"I've got a pretty good idea" Gawain growled, shooting two arrows in rapid fire at Leo. One skidded off of him, but the other struck somewhere around his shoulder, and earned another roar of the non-lethal kind as the mutant yanked the arrow out. At least they were distracting him for launching another screech for the moment.
Gawain had a pretty good idea of what the screech did. It shattered glass, and it had also killed Sam. There was no way out of this now.

"Good point."
Leo tugged the stars out of his side and threw them. They skidded away on the roof. Gawain grinned, bolting for the closer one and standing over it.
"So, Wolfie, riddle me this: You're obviously one ugly son of a bitch of a mutant, so why the hell hunt other mutants, hm?"
Leo turned with a grown, staring Gawain down instead of stalking forward. He had his back to the edge of the roof now, which was good, because Gawain had a better chance at this than Eve for now.
"C'mon, handsome, cat got your tongue?..."
The screech hit with the force of a hammer. Gawain dropped into the surface of the star just in time to avoid being thrown by the blast, but the world spun as the star skidded across the roof from the force. Both his ears were ringing even inside the mirror world, and the X-comm was rendered useless for the moment.
Emerging from another star off to Leo's side, Gawain drew another arrow.

Standing on the ground watching Gawain fight was stressful. Forget stressful, Evelyn could feel her pulse all the way in her throat, thundering as anxious chills raced through her veins. She wanted to fight, do something, but getting any closer would just make an easier target for the mutant. Instead, she looked for the best place to plant the remaining two throwing stars. One would stay with her, in case Mirror needed a better get away. The other she would throw if Mirror needed a better place to attack from. She just had to find the opening.
The screech that was sent towards Mirror made Evelyn's feet tingle slightly and the echoes momentarily stopped. It was rattling: mentally, physically, and bordered on painful. To make it worse, it made the come give a squeal of protest in her ear. Leo snarled, turning to face Gawain before the next arrow could be fired. Evelyn could make out a small red stain on his back where the last stars hit, but it didn't seem to be slowing him down. Evelyn's fingers twitched, longing to use her sai. At times like this she wanted a better ranged weapon.
"I've got two left, we better make them count. Once they're gone I'm not going to be much use from down here though." She wanted to suggest something, but the echoes were still buzzing as they tried to come up with a strategy. There were no good areas to shoot from, no good way to box this guy in. If they could have chosen the fighting arena maybe they would have had better now. Right now, the rooftop was neither helping nor hindering.
"I've got two left, we better make them count. Once they're gone I'm not going to be much use from down here though."
"Keep one" Gawain said. He let the arrow go first, and it skimmed Leo's ear before it skidded past them. Damn the guy was fast. Gawain shook his head from the constant humming in his ear. When he looked again, Leo was barreling straight at him, and the momentum took them both over the edge of the roof.
For a second, Gawain thought he was going to die from a fall off a roof, out of all crappy ways to die. But then his back hit the creaking metal of the fire escape, and he wished he had just died. Leo landed on top of him and Gawain drew his knee up, ramming it into the other mutant's stomach, trying to catch a breath after all air had been knocked out of his lungs.
