The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The echoes didn't get anything new from the grounds, but they were picking up plenty from Gawain. The anger, the rage, the desire to do something. Evelyn's own anger had dissipated slightly, now she just felt lost. They weren't supposed to be vengeful, but she felt that way. They weren't supposed to be vigilantes, but sometimes they ended up in that position.
"I miss him."
"Me too. But as long as those guys are out there, there's not going to be much time to dwell on it. They did this, Gawain. They caused this. And whether or not we're supposed to feel this way, I want them to pay. It's not going to go away, and it's not going to get better." The words came out bitter, and the darker emotions kept rising. "Maybe it's not how I should feel, but I want to make them pay... Maybe it's vengence, maybe it's justice, but sitting here waiting for them to move just doesn't feel right..."

Evelyn was feeling the same; Gawain was not sure if that made him feel better or worse. The things she said out loud were the same things he had been thinking. Still, they did not sound quite right said out loud.
"They... We don't even know anything about then." the words came out almost a growl that surprised himself as well "Except that... that they killed Sam, and did it fast. That's... Sam's... he was very strong. Even for a mutant."

Evelyn considered the question, but still felt herself shaking her head. "Maybe something happened beforehand. We don't know exactly what happened." She wished she had scene where everything had happened. The echoes could have pieced together more. Somehow, the analytic calmed the grief. But she couldn't find many answers.
"And are we sure it was only one person?" She watched the trees, waiting, wondering. Just one person couldn't do this, could they?
>>"Maybe something happened beforehand. We don't know exactly what happened. And are we sure it was only one person?"
"We ain't sure about sh*t." Gawain frowned, wiping his eyes with the heels of his hands "And honestly I don't even care if it was one guy, or two, or ten."
If there were too many for one person, he'd just have to fight them one by one.
It was quiet on the roof again for a while. Gawain rested his chin on his knees and stared stubbornly into the darkness.

The echoes could sense the anger, the frustration, the pain. It mixed in the air and floated around the roof tiles. It filled her thoughts and her head and cut off the air from her lungs. She could feel it from Gawain, and she could feel it in her own heart.
"I thought I knew a thing about losing people."
Evelyn stared into the darkness with him, and sighed. "I don't think anything could prepare us for this..." She shut her eyes, and tried to navigate through the playbacks and thoughts. The anger brimmed again, and she let it sit on top of everything else. Anger felt better than sadness. At least she could do something to ease it.
"It doesn't matter who it was. We can't bring him back, but we can make them regret doing this. I don't care if it's not what the x-men would do, but they're out there, and they're getting away with this right now. Maybe right now we have to sit here, but later..." She paused and looked away. She second guessed saying everything, trying to control her temper again. But she felt like a purpose was settling into place. Something had to be done.

Gawain was almost shocked at Evelyn's words... except for the fact that he was beyond the ability to feel shocked at this point in the evening. He tilted his head to glance at her though, and didn't need the echoes to tell that she was determined. Angry, shaken, and completely serious about hunting down whoever had killed Sam.
He nodded quietly, with the same silent determination, and put an arm around Evelyn's shoulders to pull her close.
