The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

For a moment Gawain thought that Jude was going to fall, but the kid managed to regain most of his balance by bending his knees. The young knight smirked. Not bad for a first try.
>>"Whoa~ Am I-?... Am I supposed to be punching you again?"
"Not yet" Gawain shook his head, balancing easily on the moving floor "Take some time to find your feet first. Try walking in a straight line. The floor doesn't always move under you, but you've always gotta be aware of your balance, otherwise people will knock you off your feet. Doesn't matter if you're the one punching, or tying to dodge a punch. Not tripping over yourself is a good start."
That sounded stupid easy and made Jude's pride flare. Straight lines were for tiny children who had to hold hands between class and the water fountain so that they wouldn't get lost.
Jude was a MAN, damnit. And MEN could walk any way they damn well pleased.
He hiked up his pants and swaggered in a semi-drunken line. Really, this was a bit more like being drunk than he'd first noticed. With that in mind, Jude walked and wobbled his way through yet another MANLY line.
Yeah. He wasn't going to win any catwalk competitions, but it was good sobriety test practice. Or, more realistically, "Hey, this is good practice for cat burgling somebody during an earthquake."
Jude duck-walked back and forth, and Gawain watched him with a smirk.
>>"Hey, this is good practice for cat burgling somebody during an earthquake."
"You never know when that'll come in handy."
Gawain stopped the earthquake simulation and waited until Jude came back to him. Interestingly enough, standing still after getting sea legs was just as distracting as the moving floor had been.
Jude jelly-legged it over to Mirror. He hadn't really noticed that he was just blindly taking this guy's orders. He had danger room access. That meant something, right? He wasn't just doing this to make the scrawny kid wobble. Right? RIGHT?
That jerk. He was smirking.
> "Hit me."
Jude's reservations about hurting the other guy were fast thinning. Maybe, just maybe he did need to learn how to smash a face. On principle.
He took long steps and launched his punch from his waist this time rather than from his shoulder.
Gawain took the hit on purpose, and he instantly regretted it. Jude apparently found his hidden reserves of instinctive violence, and threw a punch from the waist, with his entire, albeit not too large, body weight behind it. Gawain staggered back and shook his head, his ears ringing from the hit.
"Now that was better." he grinned "Try to remember that. That's how you throw a punch."
Wiping his face to make sure his nose didn't start bleeding, he turned back to Jude.
"All right. Now try to tip me over."
It was a fairy easy exercise, Sam had done it with him hundreds of times. Once again, it was about balance rather than sheer strength. Gawain stood with his feet firmly planted, waiting for Jude to try.
On the moment of impact (or, well, maybe a tad after) Jude regretted his decision. Mirror was a nice guy. He didn't think he was going to actually let him hit him.
But then, the strangest thing happened.
Mirror got punched. Then. Smiled. Like a freaking horror movie!
"Better punch or no, shouldn't a guy like... cringe? Just a bit?" To Jude's credit, Mirror did shake his head like the Frenchman might have knocked something loose in there. Ohhh! Maybe he was an android and there was a screw loose?
Heh. He had a screw loose.
> "All right. Now try to tip me over."
With his... no. Jude put his fists down, noticing a reddened set of knuckles. Yeah. This wasn't some crazy punchy penguin exercise.
"Okay." Jude crouched a bit before rushing Mirror with a guttural yell. He was trying to sort of impact him low and go upward and over-ward. That's how Jude always ended his fights with punchy penguin, anyway.
The kid went for a full tackle. Kudos to him. Gawain shifted his weight and grabbed him around the waist, twisting slightly to bring both of them to the floor, Jude sprawled on his back and the mirrorwalker kneeling next to him.
"Not bad." he huffed, letting him get up "Not good either, but not terrible."
He had seen worse. Heck, he had been worse, before Sam started to teach him.
"So, just out of curiosity... Why do girls want to punch you in the first place?"
Jude pushed himself up from his dazed position on his back. He wasn't entirely sure how he got here, but Gawain said it wasn't terrible. Whatever that meant. The copycat flopped back onto the ground. He kinda wished it was wobbling again.
> "So, just out of curiosity... Why do girls want to punch you in the first place?"
Hadn't he avoided this question already? Jude sighed.
"There's one girl I'd like to date." Well. Woman. And maybe more than date. But that was beside the point. "But I don't sink she'll wait for me to get a little older first. We were... together... then it's like I looked away and when I looked back she's all strong and she doesn't need me." At all.
"She sorta handed me my butt. I sink that means we broke up." But maybe if he could get stronger... "I don't want her to get in dangerous situations and risk herself, but she won't even pay attention to me anymore." He gripped his hands tightly and looked at the Danger Room ceiling even though that wasn't what he was seeing. "I want to stand beside her withsout shame."
That wasn't even counting the girl he had hidden in his room. She, too, had thrown some physical violence his way and won.
>>"There's one girl I'd like to date... But I don't sink she'll wait for me to get a little older first. I don't want her to get in dangerous situations and risk herself, but she won't even pay attention to me anymore. I want to stand beside her withsout shame."
Well... that was quite damn far from any answer Gawain would have expected. He arched an eyebrow. Kid had some kind of a crush on... an older girl? Hopefully not one of the teachers. Running X-missions was difficult enough for the mirrorwalker, he did not need ethical issues to deal with in the school. Ugh.
"Oookay." he nodded slowly, trying his best to stay respectful of whatever fantasy the kid was living. "You might need to learn more than dodging punches in that case. She sounds pretty capable to me."
God he hoped it wasn't Evelyn. Although if she had kicked a kid's butt, she would hae told him. Possibly. Maybe.
"Anyhow. I mean, I'm glad you're here and all, honestly, I'd make DR sessions mandatory for everyone around here. Good for your health and your power control... But I don't want you to think getting stronger will solve all of... that."
Ugh. Yet another adult that wasn't taking his feelings seriously. Whatever. So long as he didn't stop teaching him, Jude figured he could put up with a little attitude.
"She is capable." The Frenchman confirmed. Yes. Capable.
> "But I don't want you to think getting stronger will solve all of... that."
"No." Jude acquiesced. "But it can't hurt more than getting my butt handed to me all the time." And laying like a fish on the floor wasn't going to make that any better. He pushed himself to his feet. "So what's next?"
>>"No. But it can't hurt more than getting my butt handed to me all the time. So what's next?"
"Well, in that case we'll make you a full training schedule" Gawain allowed. Who was he to judge other people's love life? A half-lesbian gender shifter, that's who. And if the kid wanted to train, who was he to say no?
"You'll learn basic self defense, basic fight moves for close combat. After that, if you want to, you can move on to weapons of your choice. Sam doesn't usually approve of firearms, but we have a wide selection of others. When... you know, you get old enough to legally use them. In the meantime you can use stuff like archery, that qualify as sports."
He took a pause.
"Also, part of training is control over your powers. You copy them, right? Care to try mine?"
Jude whistled. "That's quite a list." And it sounded like all his free time was about to be consumed. Well, he wasn't exactly doing anything productive with it anyway, but it made him feel grownup to have to make the decision.
'Goodbye Pokemon X&Y. Goodbye poker night. Hello, love of my life!'
Somehow he just couldn't imagine himself with a weapon. But Svetty had one. She had a gun, even, so maybe it would be okay.
Gawain intruded on his romantic notions with a request for Jude to copy his power. Ugh.
"High five?" Jude put up his hand. "I don't have to touch you to copy, but with this many mutants around it's the best way to guarantee that I get the one I mean to get."
>>"High five? I don't have to touch you to copy, but with this many mutants around it's the best way to guarantee that I get the one I mean to get."
"Sure" Gawain grinned, placing his palm against Jude's, curious to see what was going to happen next.
"Danger Room: Give me some basic mirrors, will ya?"
While the system didn't exactly respond to casual slang, it was used to Mirror's patterns enough to know the drill. A few plain, floor-length mirrors appeared around the two of them, reflecting them and each other from various points of view.
High five acquired, Jude let his power off the hook and do its thing. His ability was always most satiated when it had just changed to a new ability. The change took a small amount of time. Sort of like installing a new gear. It took a rotation or two for the teeth to catch and the gears to engage each other.
Gawain summoned some mirrors. Oh. So they were actually going to use this power?
"So you just... walk right in, right?" He was almost certain that he'd never copied Gawain's power. There didn't seem to be any active part to it that Jude could immediately feel. None of the mirrors hummed or lit up or made him think for any reason that he could get into one.
So, rather than take a running jump, Jude started by just poking one.
"Yup" Gawain nodded, and he let Jude test the theory on his own. Once one had the power, the surface of the mirror just gave way with kind of a reeling sensation, and sucked the person into the mirrorworld. It was not like walking through a door at all; more like falling through one. And once on the other side, one had the brand new and slightly disturbing experience of being two dimensional.
Gawain walked into another mirror nearby, positioned to face the one Jude experimented with.
