The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was an interesting little shop if a bit too touristy for Masque's preference. Amidst the New York postcards and the New York tee-shirts there were other things like hand-made carvings and crystals that gave the shop more character than your average tourist trap. He smiled looking down at a little jade cat carving. Now if only his mind wasn't preoccupied by the threat that possibly still lurked just outside the doors of the place he might have actually been able to properly enjoy himself.
Back in the eyes of the public Masque took his notebook back out, not wanting to attract any more attention then he was certain he all ready had. 'I've never really had the chance. Its not easy to promote yourself to a store when you live half on the street.' For once it occurred to him that maybe it was time to properly learn sign language. Not that he had been in quite this sort of situation before, but how strange must it seem to observers watching this conversation had in text?
Masque took another quick glance out the door. All remained quiet. 'Do you think its safe to go back out there?' he wrote, feeling apprehensive.

Ryden was subconsciously having some of the same thoughts his companion was. Sign language would be quicker than writing everything out, and the more people he met that didn't talk, the more useful it felt. He always avoided learning because to him it felt like a waste of time, at least at first. He thought he could eventually control his mutation so it didn't spark up everytime he talked. Then he thought he could just space his words right and control himself so things didn't break. But day by day, his powers just got stronger, and he was learning to be more careful with his voice. He wasn't mute, but that might have been a better blessing. He was destructive and selfish with his voice.
Glancing at the words Masque wrote, Ryden nodded and put his hands in his pockets, glancing out the door as well. then he wrote on his own paper. You should send some stuff to me sometime at the paper. We have an art section and we appreciate helping freelance artists. Might be less hastel than the store? Ryden suggested. He glanced outside at the last note and nodded.
Seems like it could be safe...We really should learn sign language... He added as an after thought, thinking out loud.
The idea of actually having some place legitimate to sell his art almost seemed too good to be true, but he nodded and smiled at the idea. 'I would love to sell my art to the paper,' Masque wrote. He knew the quality of his work, it was just a matter of getting himself in more than anything else.
Seems like it could be safe...We really should learn sign language...
Another glance at the door confirmed that things had indeed seemed to have calmed down. 'Sign language sounds like an excellent plan,' Masque grinned allowing the nervous energy to wash out of him. 'I hope next time we meet circumstances end a little bit better.' At least no one had gotten seriously injured but it sure had been a close one. He extended his hand for shaking before preparing to exit and return home.

Ryden shook Masque's hand, then held up a finger for a second, reaching for his wallet. Pulling out a business card, he held it out to the other mutant, and gave a quick smile. I hope we meet again. He scrawled sloppily on his notebook, then nodded towards the door. He didn't want to push things and endanger them both, but it did feel odd having such a quick but eventful meeting. Could he consider this stranger a friend? An acquaintance? A kindred spirit? Whatever they were, he did hope there would be a chance to meet again.
Stepping out onto the sidewalk, he plotted a course for home. With any luck, there wouldn't be any further excitement today.
