The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The water eventually cleared most of the coughing and gradually the overwhelming chaos of information flooding through her head settled. Gawain's body language and the feedback didn't vanish however. She probably looked childish or something at this point but it was hard to explain what exactly was going through her head right now. Complicated didn't even begin to describe what it was like having your powers yank open files of information in your head and shuffle through them in the middle of an awkward conversation.
The subject about the babies 'mother' vanished though, tucked away with the baby back in the basket, and Evelyn glanced over as Gawain leaned against the counter.
>>Whatever you are thinking, just say it.
That seemed like a dangerous request.
"I'm sorry, it's just... I don't know. You're a knight, seems like the 'honorable' thing to do or whatever would to be like, go be a dad, help raise a kid. And you're pretty big on that sort of thing. And I'm sorry, I just...Too much time to think, too much over thinking... Then the echoes misread, over read things and it makes me more confused..." She rubbed her forehead, setting the glass on the counter. It took focus to keep her mind from drifting.
"I'm sorry I'm making this more complicated than it is." Her mind buzzed with the overload. This conversation was a mess.

Oh. So, there was that. Really, was that so hard to say?...
Gawain sighed and rubbed his forehead. Evelyn was not the only one getting a headache.
"Eve, this is not the fourteenth century. I mean, I am named after a knight, and I guess I am on the good guy team, but... I doubt Becca would want me to go play daddy, even if that was my plan. The kid is probably mine, and I'm not gonna lie, that's going to stay important. There is really no good way around it. But..."
Okay, so maybe it was hard to say.
"... you and me, that's a whole different thing. My life is kind of a mess right now, but that doesn't mean I don't want you in it."

Ok, talking was helping. Evelyn no longer felt like her echoes and the rest of her brain were mangled in carnage. Still, the problem itself wasn't solved. There was still a baby. A very real baby in a basket hanging out on the table.
She suddenly had new appreciate for single parents.
>>"... unless, you know. You don't want to be..."
"No, I do. The echoes wouldn't have made such a mess of my brain if I didn't." She quickly added. "I just... I don't know how helpful I can be. I'm not really good with kids...I don't think I inherited that maternal gene." She rubbed the back of her neck nervously.

"Me neither, and I'm half a girl" Gawain smirked, pressing a kiss to her forehead. The worst was over, as far as the conversation went right now. "But I'm not planning on keeping Baby X around long. We just need to find Becca... and give the kid back, that's all."
And hope, really hope, that Becca was all right and willing to take it back.

The kiss on the forehead made things feel better. The reassurance that the parenting thing was going to be until the baby got returned helped even more. There were still doubts and concerns though, mostly stemming from the fact that said kids mother was AWOL, but at least it would only be for a bit, right? Better than accidentally having her own.
Her stomach churned. That was something she really didn't even want to think about at this point.
The baby gurgled back on the table, and the echoes struggled to analyze the sound. It seemed happy. That sounded right. Happy would be the cooing and the gurgling? She could do this. She could learn. "If no one on staff knows where she is I know a detective buddy who might be able to help? Guy talks to ghosts so might get news quicker." She said, no longer feeling like she was going to drown in a glass of water.

Evelyn calmed down some, and that made Gawain less nervous too. The last thing he needed right now on top of the baby was a breakup. He arched an eyebrow at the suggestion.
"You make some interesting friends, you know that, right?" he smirked. He wondered what the story was this time. Evelyn had a knack for trouble.
"I might take you up on that later. For now, I'm trying to find Becca through the X-men and MRC, since she was on the team. I also want to see what the cops find out from the kidnapper. She somehow knew I was the father. She must know more than that."
The baby whimpered and her tiny face crunched up. Gawain sighed as he walked back to the basket.
