The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Time traveling.... the echoes tried to process that idea, but they couldn't quite wrap themselves around it. Time traveling in their mind was impossible, and thus should be disregarded. She decided it was better for her not to try to start an argument with them about that.
Apartment deed in hand, Evelyn tried her best to stay on her feet the rest of the trip back to the mansion. She got distracted a few times by the echoes interest in obscure things, but somehow she was back in her own bedroom without serious harm to herself or others. She was relieved to see the now familiar bed, then she picked up what Maya was saying.
>>"It's bedtime for you miss"
"I thought we were going to play cards though!" She blurted out, turning to face the mirror-walker. "Just one round! I can get them real quick. I just....I...." She tried to think of where she put the deck last time she had it. For some reason, the information didn't jump to the surface of her thoughts. Stunned, her expression matching the floored sensation she was feeling, she sank into her bed and starred at Mirror in bewilderment. "Shit...this is what it feels like to forget..." She whispered. How on earth did anyone do anything without a perfect memory? Forgetting sucked....
"Wait, if I am forgetting, what if my playbacks are broken? What if I drank too much and I fall asleep and they don't work and I don't wake up or something dumb. Holy crap I would be like an intoxicated sleeping beauty and that's not romantic at all and would suuucckkk...." She blurted out pressing her hand to her forehead. The echoes were still trying to process where the cards were, and wondering if she put them in the desk with her art supplies.
"No, we got them out the other day when we couldn't sleep. I never put them back in that drawer...." She responded aloud without meaning to.
>>"I thought we were going to play cards though! Just one round! I can get them real quick. I just....I....Shit...this is what it feels like to forget..."
Maya laughed as Eve protested against bedtime like a grumpy five-year-old, and then laughed some more, against her better judgement, as she collapsed on the bed, realizing she forgot where she put the cards. One does not see her girlfriend experiencing forgetting something for the first time every day.
>>"Wait, if I am forgetting, what if my playbacks are broken? What if I drank too much and I fall asleep and they don't work and I don't wake up or something dumb. Holy crap I would be like an intoxicated sleeping beauty and that's not romantic at all and would suuucckkk...."
"Hey, hey" Maya set the bottle down on the desk and walked over to kneel in front of Evelyn, putting a soothing hand on her knee "It's okay, nothing's broken. The echoes still work, right?"
>>"No, we got them out the other day when we couldn't sleep. I never put them back in that drawer...."
"Eve?" Maya sounded more worried now that the girl started talking to herself "Eve, look at me. You are drunk that's all. You need a good night's sleep and then ya can be happily hung over tomorrow. And if you go sleeping beauty, I'll just have to kiss you awake, right?" she added with a grin.

The tipsy blond forced herself to listen to Maya and the attempts to be reassuring. Being 'happily hung over' sounded not so encouraging though, and she momentarily felt the feeling of regret for drinking so much. Then the images of the day flickered through her mind, and she realized she appreciated the foggy sensation she was feeling. Forgetting might not be such a bad thing right now. Or sleeping.
>>"The echoes still work, right?"
"They work, they're just frickin obnoxious right now. They still think the playing cards are in the drawer....And I keep telling them....I'm talking to myself. Why on earth do you like dating me?" She glanced at Maya, unable to really understand what attraction the mirror-walker felt at this particular moment. She was feeling too exhausted to protest much more though. She flopped over onto her side and pulled her pillow into a hug. "If I don't go sleeping beauty, can I still have a kiss? Because you're kinda fun to make out with." She murmered into the pillow case.

Maya chuckled and helped Evelyn lie down; she seemed to have finally given up on the idea of playing cards, like a good little drunk, and was ready to go to sleep. Maya pulled off her shoes and tucked her in.
>>"If I don't go sleeping beauty, can I still have a kiss? Because you're kinda fun to make out with."
"Well" Maya grinned and leaned over to press a kiss to Evelyn's lips "That's all ya get for tonight, I don't take advantage of drunk ladies. But, ask me again tomorrow."

>>"Ask me again tomorrow."
Mouth still tingling with the kiss, she smiled at Maya, and decided the answer was good enough. Curling up with her pillow she tried to get some sleep.
[Playing cards. Dresser drawer.]
She honestly hoped the playbacks wouldn't take a cue from the echoes... otherwise it would be a very long night.
Evelyn was out like a light. Maya smiled too as she quietly walked out of the room.
Gawain returned shortly after midnight, changed out of the party dress that would have been rather uncomfortable on him, and settled down on the floor with his back to the bed. Evelyn seemed to be sleeping quietly, but it was never sure what was happening in her head, and the young knight wanted to be nearby in case she woke up with nightmares again. He himself did not feel very tired; shifting at midnight shook him wide awake, so he just sat in the room, running to-do lists and training scenarios and random thoughts in his head...
Evelyn had slept rather soundly regardless of the events from the day before. At least, at first she had. It was somewhere between late at night and early in the morning when she felt herself wake up, the buzz only mostly drained away. There was still enough in her groggy mind for the echoes normal chiming to have a more influential force.
[Hangover forming. Possible solution: coconut water. Locate: coconut.]
Had she been more awake, with less alcohol still drifting in her system, she would have questioned the idea. But it was less like waking up and more like sleepwalking at this point as she gave into the echoes prodings and drifted towards the door of the room. She didn't even notice Gawain sleeping at the foot of the bed. With their single goal in mind, the echoes drove her down the hallway and to the kitchen.
Not surprisingly, there wasn't a coconut to be found.
Unable to be deterred, Evelyn sleepily rechecked the cupboards, brain trying to process what she was doing while still being somewhat drowned in echoes at the same time.
Gawain woke up with a start at the sound of a door closing. Sitting up he rubbed his eyes and looked around. The light was not on, so it took him a few moments to adjust to the dark.
"Evelyn?..."
The bed was empty. Gawain sighed and got to his feet, stretching his shoulders that were thoroughly cramped from sleeping leaning against the bed. He checked the bathroom, but Eve was not there.
"What the heck..."
Pushing the door open he walked out into the hallway and tilted his head, listening for sounds. He did not have to wait long - the distinct sound of rummaging came from the direction of the kitchen.
Walking into the kitchen Gawain blinked in the light and looked at Evelyn turning the place upside down.
The statement drifted through Evelyn's foggy mind, and she looked up, still somewhat disoriented about where she was. It took her a moment to register Gawain, then the question replayed in her head softly underneath the echoes chiming.
"A coconut..." She responded slowly, rubbing her forehead and trying to make sense of things. It was hard to sit still though. The echoes were still insistently trying to locate the exotic item. If a headache hadn't been forming before, it certainly was going to start now. She glanced back at the shelf she had been digging through, mentally 'I told you so'ing the echoes. No coconuts in the Tupperware shelf. It seemed to think there had to be one here somewhere.
"Echoes..." She added lamely, opening the refrigerator again to shut them up for a moment. Seeing no coconut, they started assessing other ways to treat a hangover. Then she found herself looking back in the refrigerator for food. Eating something might help... Although cooking half asleep could have unforeseeable consequences.
Evelyn looked almost as if she was sleepwalking. She wandered around in the kitchen more than a little bit lost, rubbing her forehead as if she was having a headache. Echoes and playback combined with a hangover - that did not sound like fun at all.
"All right c'mon" Gawain sighed, pulling Eve into a hug before he made her sit down "Hey, Eve, look at me. Did the echoes tell you to find a coconut?... Why, exactly?"
Making her answer specific questions was the only way he could think of to get her out of her dazed state.

Evelyn was somewhat relieved when Gawain made her sit. Although the hug had been nice too... She looked up and tried to focus on what he was saying. Little by little she pushed past the echoes clamoring and rubbed her forehead. "The echoes are being insistent. I guess I just was letting them be bossy... Coconut water is supposed to help with a hangover..."
The room stopped feeling quite so spiny as she concentrated, and she felt a little bit more aware of what was happening. It helped that she was waking up enough she wasn't dealing with the fuzziness of the playbacks as well.
>>"Do you have a headache?"
"Kinda... mostly just a kind of mental pressure from the echoes though. It's hard to think when they're thinking so much. If that makes any sense at all." She was fairly certain she made no sense. She was still thinking occasionally about a coconut. This was ridiculous.

"Yeeeaaah" Gawain nodded, half amused and half feeling sorry for a girl who could not even get drunk without her powers taking a break for a while. Hangover and obnoxious echoes together had to be a pain in the head...
"Well, I don't think we have coconut water, but I am pretty sure I can come up with something else. I'm pretty experienced in hangovers..." he smirked as he stood, walking over to the fridge "It's probably not gonna taste great, but it works. I would give you coffee, but I think the last thing we need is you and the echoes on a caffeine buzz for the rest of the night..."

Somehow, Mirror understood what Evelyn was saying. It was some small miracle in her eyes, and she settled back into the chair while Gawain went back to the fridge. She pulled her knees up and rested her chin on them, wondering what time it was in a delayed thought. After midnight at least... It still seemed like it must be early for no one else to be up and about.
"If it doesn't taste great I'll live..." She replied quietly. Anything seemed better than dealing with the full force of the echoes at this point. The headache seemed like it was growing ever so slowly, and she hoped nausea wouldn't be close behind it. Getting sick to her stomach would totally ruin her memories of the day before...
...memories....
Her eyes got a little wider, and she rubbed her forehead more. "I must've done a number to my brain... Yesterday still feels fuzzy..." She remarked slowly.
>>"If it doesn't taste great I'll live... I must've done a number to my brain... Yesterday still feels fuzzy..."
Gawain laughed out loud and walked back to eve with a glass of something that could have been best described as liquid moss.
"Welcome to mutant college" he grinned at Eve. Getting drunk was one kind of an initiation... and in Eve's case, it was eve legal. "Bottoms up."
He smiled as he watched her; other people did stupid things when they were drunk, like dancing on tables or singing karaoke or making out in a dark corner. Evelyn? Evelyn learned to forget.
"Most people would say the point of getting drunk is not remembering things" he added as he knelt down next to her, but carefully out of the way in case the anti-hangover cure decided to come back up...

Evelyn tentatively accepted the drink, stomach momentarily squirming at the sight. It seemed like it would taste like hell... And she was wondering if she really had the courage to drink it. "I have a feeling I'm going to want to forget tasting this in about two days when I have to drink it again in a playback... then two weeks after that.... and a month after that..." As the echoes started chattering about what might possibly be in the concoction, she forced herself to take a swing and down it.
It tasted awful.
Gawain was looking less like a knight and more like a devil at this particular point in time, and she made a face and wriggled as the taste clung to her mouth with awful, unforgettable disgusting clarity. "Well, I think the forgetting part worked. It seems like it was much more fun being drunk than being hungover though." She complained.
