The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

In later re-tellings, Kaitlyn would insist that the subway attacked her first. This wasn’t entirely untrue.
She was riding the subway at night, by herself. People had told her that girls her age shouldn’t ride the subway at night by themselves, but Kaitlyn believed that her ability to kill people with superpowers made her an exception to the rule. Besides, she really wanted to be back at the Sanctuary. She felt safer there than in Xavier’s, which meant she could actually sleep soundly at the Sanctuary.
So there she was, in a subway car with three other people at 1AM, one of whom had decided to sit right next to her even though there were many other seats available to him. Kaitlyn had been trying very hard to ignore him, until he grabbed her and tried to carry her off at a different stop from the one she had planned on leaving.
She ran out of that subway station as fast as she could, afraid that somebody would be mad at her for destroying that subway car and at least one of the three people inside of it. Besides, she could walk home from here. She even knew the area well enough that she could take shortcuts through back alleys most of the way.
It was here, in one of these dark alleys, that she started to hear a very unpleasant set of noises coming from around the corner.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
The Beast was slightly more careful. The last time he tried to feel the rush of death enter his system in an Alley, a Police Officer had heard the scream however it was 1AM, no-one was likely to be wandering down her while he was busy. The man he held in his grasp was gasping for air in his grip. A dark smile stretched across Beast's face as ran his claws over the skin of the man. He took his time, it'd be a while. Beast slowly lightened his grip, he didn't want the man passing out before he died.
The Beast sunk his claws into the gut of his next kill. He watched as their eyes began to lose their light. Beast then slammed the body into the wall continually. Cracks and screams combining into a symphony of death that sung through the air. He then began punching the chest of the random passer-by who probably just wanted to go home tonight. Beast dropped him to the floor and allowed him to bleed out.
Daniel was on the run from the Police after the incident with the Blonde and the Asian. He couldn't work and get couldn't get home. Nothing. Which gave Beast a large opportunity to take advantage of to fill his 'needs'. The death of others is a drug and The Beast was an addict and it wouldn't change.

That was the sickening crack of a frail human skeleton being smashed by a mutant with superhuman strength. The smack of a body against a concrete wall, the thud as it crumpled to the ground, broken. Gurgling, wheezing, futile attempts at speaking, or maybe even screaming. Kaitlyn recognized these sounds.
Her first instinct was to turn around, but after realizing how much farther she would have to walk in that case, she decided against it. Because she was in Order territory, no thug should be stupid enough to hurt her, so she wouldn’t be in any actual danger if she walked by. And, she chuckled bitterly to herself, it’s not like she hadn’t seen stuff ten times worse in the last couple of years.
After taking a deep breath to gather herself, she walked around the corner. There was a giant purple monster and two dying, mutilated humans. Even if it made Kaitlyn incredibly uncomfortable and a little horrified, it wasn’t anything unexpected. “Those guys musta really pissed you off.”
First, she would make sure he knew she was there, and that she wasn’t a threat because she wasn’t going to tell anyone, and if necessary, that she had very powerful people on her side. Then, he should let her go on her way without a problem. This was a genius scheme she just came up with, severely sleep-deprived here at 1AM.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Beast stared at the Humans and took a deep breath. The smell of death hung in the air. He was going to savour this. He didn't quite know when the next kill will come along. Just as he wondered he heard a voice. It appears he didn't have to wait long. Not long at all. His head turned to face the intruder and was surprised at what he saw. A child. It was late and there was a child infront of him. This had never happened before!
He'd never had a child interrupt him, how was he supposed to react? So he reacted the only was he knew how. A turned fully, making himself as large as possible as he opened his jaw and let out a long bellowing roar. His claws still dripping with the blood of the innocent. If she was normal then she would leave. He didn't care who she was or where he was, these were his kills. He needed this and no-one changed that. No-one jepodised that. Beast didn't know of the Order nor did he care. He didn't belong to anybody and he certainly didn't want anybody else stealing his kills. Not after last time.

Kaitlyn reflexively let out a small blast, but it wasn’t loud enough to be heard over the monster’s roar. At best, he might have felt a light gust on his face. Unless it was a she. You can never tell with the visibly mutated ones.
Instead of running away, the girl remained calm. Or, at least, she appeared to remain more calm than she ought to have. Staying calm is difficult when a giant, monstrous mutant roars at you. She looked a lot less terrified than she felt, even though she knew she could probably take this thing in a fight.
When the roaring stopped, she took a deep breath, then spoke, urgently: “You shouldn’t have done that. I’m not scared of you, but someone’s prolly calling 911 now, and I don’t want any cops asking me questions.” This guy probably didn’t want cops asking him questions, either. So they would have common ground for Kaitlyn to work with, so he would let her pass by without giving her any trouble. Because she really didn’t want to take a huge detour to avoid the police and their new crime scene.
“Can you even talk?”
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Beast felt the slight breeze make contact with his face although he dismissed it as a gust of wind making it's way down the alley. He stood to his full height as he listened to her. Her lack of fear was mildly..disturbing to say the least. She asked whether he could speak and his only reaction was. "Why shouldn't I kill you little one? Give me one good reason." He took a slight step closer to her, he was well within grapple and clawing distance. He'd happily turn this from a double murder to a triple murder if this girl didn't provide a good reason.
He'd never killed a child before, his mind wondered if it'd feel different from the others. Did age even make a difference? She was still either human or a human-looking mutant so she deserved the die either way, it just would depend on how long that would take.

Kaitlyn was silent for a few moments, suddenly much more wary of the hulking mutant in front of her.
“First off, you probably wouldn’t be able to. I have a mutant power that could blow up this whole block or shatter every bone in your body.” She said all of this with an unsettlingly calm, matter-of-fact tone. As she had learned, this was the best way to threaten people. “But even if you could pull it off, it would still be stupid, because my family owns the M cartel. You’d die horribly in about a week, tops.”
From this distance, a strong enough blast would make most of the creature’s rib cage cave in, if his bones were about as strong as a normal human’s. It would also make more cops show up, and faster. The police tended to investigate reports of large explosions as fast as they could, as Kaitlyn knew from experience.
“Also, if you’re worried I’ll tell on you,” meaningful glance at the two dead people, “You’re wrong. I don’t even know those guys,” she shrugged noncommitally.
Actually, scratch that part about them being dead. One of them was still alive; Kaitlyn knew this because she could hear his labored, gurgling breathing. Must’ve really sucked to be him, but Kaitlyn still didn't care very much about his well-being. It was just some random human. She only wished he would stop making that noise, so she didn't have to acknowledge his presence so much. He was making her feel kind of uncomfortable.
The Beast bared his teeth slightly at the girl as he spoke. "I'm not afraid of you little girl and I'm not scared of your 'family' either. No-one can intimidate me." The Beast didn't back down. He wasn't scared. Fear was for the weak. He was strong. Stronger than a girl. Stronger than a Human. He was getting stronger. Everyday. Every death. Stronger. Beast didn't care who this girl's family was. He was The Beast, he'd escaped certain capture. He'd killed people, humans and mutants alike for a long times on these streets.
This 'M Cartel' obviously didn't care about his night-time dealings and so why should he care about their boundaries or who they were connected with. Who he killed was his business. No-one had a say in it. Not the Cops. Not the Victims and certainly not a little girl. He heard the gurgling from the man behind him. He was going to die slowly. Very slowly indeed.

Blink.
"Alright. You're big and tough and scary, and you don't take crap from anyone. That's cool," she nodded. "I can respect that. Now, uh," she leaned to the side, peeking around the murderous mutant at the empty alleyway behind him, "I was just gonna walk through here. Is that okay?"
Kaitlyn certainly didn't seem afraid. She almost sounded comfortable.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Beast stared down the young girl and moved to the side near the dying man. She was young. She didn't pose any form of a threat and as such should be allowed to live for now. She will die eventually whether by his hand or another. It was always the way. "Very well young one. You may pass by me for now." Beast then turned and bent down towards the dying man who had slipped into unconsciousness from blood-loss probably. Beast watched him to a moment before reaching out both of his hands and snapping the man's neck. A quick death, putting him through any more would be of no use if he was already knocked out.

The redhead walked past him, making sure to keep an eye on him the entire time. It would be dumb to let her guard down near someone who just threatened to kill her. Thankfully, he was busy snapping the guy's neck. She saw it coming; it didn't make her flinch.
And once she was out of reach and she had the chance to keep going, it could have been over. But curiosity got the better of her.
“So, what’s your deal, anyway?” she gave the monster a quizzical look. “Like, you in a gang? Is it contract killing, vigilante stuff, or what?” While it would be stupid for almost anyone else to ask questions like that, the Order already had their fingers in a lot different pies. If it was organized crime in this area, the Order probably knew about it.
The little one asked a lot of questions. Questions that people don't usually ask. She was brave and for some reason Beast felt that she might just deserve an answer to her curiosity and maybe just maybe she wouldn't get a threat this time. But that was only a possibility. "I enjoy it." That was really all that was required wasn't it? He didn't need to explain himself to a child. He loved the rush of death as it coursed through his veins.
His purple-skinned body stood once again as he turned to look at the girl. She was out of reach so he'd have to move to get her now and if she was telling the truth about her mutation, she was not to be trifled with...for now. She also was not effected by the slaughter like most were, she has seen it before which suggested she had some connections. Now he was actually thinking he was beginning to work this out.

That answer didn’t really add up. It also chilled Kaitlyn a little. She could cope with murder, especially when the victim did something stupid to deserve it, or there was some kind of reason for the murder. But this was different. This was just another level of chaos altogether.
It would have been really smart to keep walking away at that point, but Kaitlyn was still convinced she could handle him. She was also still curious. “So, you just did that for fun? Like, they didn’t even do anything to deserve it?”
Also, she worried that she might need to kill this guy, or at least injure him to the point that he stopped being a problem. Random, pointless murder could really throw a wrench in the Order’s business operations. Or end up taking out one of her friends. Neither of those things would be good.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Beast seemed confused by her questions. Did someone need to do something for him to kill them? No they didn't. Did they Zebra need to do something for the Lion to feast on it? No it didn't, why was this any different? Fun? That was another concept she brought to the table. He did enjoy it. That could be considered 'fun'. "I am the predator, they are my prey. Human and mutant alike." He looked down at the young girl. His muscles tightening involuntarily. He was getting jumpy.
He had a few questions of his own for her. "Why do you care? About them? About me? What makes you think you can judge my actions? Who gave you that authority over me?" He bared his teeth at her for a few seconds. Snarling. His glowing red eyes trained directly on hers watching her for any movement that may indicate an attack.

Kaitlyn stared at him for a few seconds. She decided to choose her words carefully.
“Really… I guess it’s just, I’d be sad if you killed someone I liked. If you just kill random people like that, you make me worried you’ll kill someone I like. And I don’t like being worried. And…”
Woah, woah, she never said she cared about him. But… maybe it would be a good idea to run with that? It would be cool if she could just talk him down, even though it probably wouldn’t work.
“…I guess I care about you ‘cause we’re both mutants. Mutants have to care about each other, or we’ll die out.” Part of Kaitlyn felt like they ought to make exceptions in cases like this, but she was still trying to talk him down; mentioning that could be counter-productive. “And if you keep trying to kill people like that, you might meet someone who could kill you, which would suck.”
Kaitlyn hoped he wouldn’t make her feel the need to kill him right now. That would suck.
