The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawain was waiting, thankfully, so Evelyn didn't have to stand around awkwardly in a bathing suit any longer than necessary. For once, he seemed a little shy as well, which reassured her in an odd way. She managed not to blush, although as soon as she ditched the tank top she probably would.
The air outside was warm, even in the morning, and she followed as they reached the pool, glancing for somewhere to put her towel. Folding it and setting it on a chair, then pulling her tank top off to put with it, she glanced over her shoulder at Gawain, then smirked at his question. "My family may have been a fan of the whole, 'laying around and tanning' bit, but I was the one who actually got in the water. More fun that way." She wandered over to the edge of the pool and sat, swinging her pale legs into the water. It was cold, but not unbearable.
"It has been a little while though." She added, glancing down and looking at her skin in the water. It was that unnaturally fair color that seemed suited for her hair. She wondered if she could have used more tanning. The blue of her swim suit matched her eyes, but she considered wearing red next time. Maybe then she wouldn't look as flushed. Or would it make her look even whiter?
She glanced up at Gawain, pushing aside her thoughts while the echoes noted how many steps there were leading into the shallow end of the pool.
>>"My family may have been a fan of the whole, 'laying around and tanning' bit, but I was the one who actually got in the water. More fun that way."
Gawain kind of lost track of that sentence at the point when Eve took her top off. Gaping at a lady was the worst possible thing for a knight to do, yet here he was, blanking out on the conversation over creamy skin and nice...
>>"It has been a little while though."
"Um." Gawain finally picked up his jaw and, swinging his legs over the edge of the pool, he slipped into the water. Thank God it was cold. "Well, good thing you don't forget, huh?"
He looked up at Eve danging her legs over the edge and grinned.
Evelyn, thankfully, had been fairly focused on the debate about her swimming suit color, and missed most of Gawain's staring. By the time she glanced up, he was in the water, and she flicked her hand across the surface of the pool splashing water lightly in his direction.
"Tanning. I'm not sure I have a tan gene in me. The world would miss my ghostly complexion if I did." She smiled slightly, and then finally slipped into the pool next to him. The cold water had a refreshing sting to it as she went under, and as she stood her wet hair clung to her face.
Ponytail. She definitely should have gone with the pony tail.
Pushing her hair back, she flicked the water from her eyes and blushed slightly as she tried to push the pale strands over her right shoulder. "A braid probably would have been a good idea. Next time you should give me the extra two minutes so I don't look silly freeing myself from my own hair." She remarked sheepishly, stepping sideways a little into shallower water.
>>"Tanning. I'm not sure I have a tan gene in me. The world would miss my ghostly complexion if I did."
"I'm pretty sure you don't" Gawain chuckled, watching her from the pool "Hey!"
He splashed some water back at her as she slipped into the pool.
>>"A braid probably would have been a good idea. Next time you should give me the extra two minutes so I don't look silly freeing myself from my own hair."
"Our hair looks fine" he chuckled, backing away towards the deeper water "You look like a water fairy. Or a siren. Or maybe a mermaid. Hey, they tell me we used to have a mermaid on the X-team. Like, a real one..."
He ducked under the water and came up shaking water from his hair.
Evelyn tilted her head to the side slightly, several different images flashing through her head at once. Somehow, she was pretty sure neither really showed what it would be like to have a mermaid on the team. Unless having a fish tail in the danger room was beneficial. Maybe if the scenario was underwater. That seemed like it would be stretching it though.
"Water fairy. Sounds ethereal. I could deal with that. And it would have been fun to meet a mermaid. At least, it sounds like it could have been. I've found mutations are rarely what I expect them to be though." While Gawain was still shaking water from his hair, she jabbed him in the side playfully before ducking underwater and swimming away towards the deeper end of the pool. Resurfacing in the deeper water she grinned and tread water with a taunting smirk. The water felt surprisingly refreshing, and she was actually having a bit of fun.
She was also sort of being a brat right now. The two seemed to be going together. "We should do what more often? Hang out or swim?" She tilted her head to the side in an inquisitive manner, the light off her wet hair making it look even more white than normal. She wasn't sure blond could really be a descriptor for it at the moment. There was hardly a hint of yellow in the pale locks.
>>"Water fairy. Sounds ethereal. I could deal with that. And it would have been fun to meet a mermaid. At least, it sounds like it could have been. I've found mutations are rarely what I expect them to be though."
"Yeah, I have never met her eit... hey!"
Gawain was jabbed in the ribs and he winced, splashing around as Eve swam away. The more she moved in the water, the more the image of the waiter fairy seemed to stick.
>>"We should do what more often? Hang out or swim?"
"Have you dressed in a bikini?" he grinned at her before he ducked underwater, avoiding any direct attack the comment might have drawn to him. Still, she looked damn good, and she deserved to hear it.
Re-surfacing a couple of feet away he looked around to see what she was doing.
"We should have brought a floatie or something..."
Gawain's retort brought a tint of pink to her face, but he ducked underwater before she could really say anything back. At least not right away. By the time he resurfaced she had paddled backwards to the edge of the pool and rolled her eyes at him.
"Maybe I'll just wear this for my next danger room session then. I mean, scantly clad girls in video games always seem impervious to danger right?" She teased, then lost a bit of her courage and smiled more shyly. She was having an odd day today. She felt physically rested, but mentally drained. Normally, she seemed to be in a reverse situation.
"And swimming was your idea. I was told to get dressed and come out here so if you get bored, that's your fault." She shut her eyes and leaned her head back, letting the early morning sun settle on her face. Then while listening carefully to his movements and piecing them together with her memories, she sent a large splash in the direction of the boy without opening her eyes.
"What, Maya can't pull off a bikini?" She smirked. She opened one eye for a second, chuckled, then shut it and went back to relaxing. Well, mostly relaxing. She heard the coughing that confirmed a hit with her splash and a smile spread across her face. Point one for Evelyn.
"Whoops. My bad." There was no guilt whatsoever in her voice, and if anything, there was the faint hint of laughter. She opened her eyes and looked over, squinted at him after his 'threat'.
"You know, you got something there on your face. Here, I'll just--" She splashed him again and then smiled innocently. "Oh, wait. That was just water." With a splash she dove into the water, and swam for the other end of the pool before he could retaliate. Plus side of having the echoes and her memories was keeping her eyes open wasn't necessary all the time. The water didn't have much chlorine, but it could still sting a little in large quantities. She popped up midway where she could touch and glanced around to see where the knight was.
The echoes flickered and she turned, following their attention.
Gawain paused before the most obvious snarky comeback came out. Maybe for the better. Joking about pulling of articles of clothing might not have been appropriate just yet. If ever. Fortunately enough the splash cut off the conversation.
>>"Whoops. My bad... You know, you got something there on your face. Here, I'll just-- Oh, wait. That was just water."
She ducked before Gawain finished spitting out water and swam away; the young knight followed a moment later. When Eve came up for air he was nowhere to be seen... until a few moments later he grabbed her leg and pulled her down. He let go before she could have panicked, though, and swam back to the surface, waiting for her to follow.
"Sorry, was just checking for a fish tail... but I guess you've got legs."
The echoes located Gawain about the same time the rest of her did. Unfortunately, at that point he had already grabbed her and she only halfway held her breath before she was dragged underwater. He didn't keep her long, but she still sputtered slightly as she stood and shook the water from her face. She stuck her tongue out at him as she flipped her wet hair over her shoulder.
She wasn't particularly careful about who she might have knocked it into in the process.
"Legs? What a disappointment. Here I was hoping I could trade in my old mutation for a new one. You know, get an upgrade." She lightly poked him in the side again since trying to splash him at this point would risk actually hitting him. Giving someone a bloody nose in a pool was always a bad idea. Then she hopped backwards a few steps, enjoying the almost floating sensation being in water seemed to give. "You look a little waterlogged. Maybe you should surrender." She calmly suggested. It was hard to keep the grin off her face though ,and the corners of her mouth twitched slightly with the effort.

>> "Last time I got an upgrade, I was killed by a bunch of orcs."
"Sounds unfortunate. Maybe I'll keep the legs." She said calmly, and maintained her blank expression. She did take a slight step backwards, though, as he started moving in. A bit of her shy demeanor made her playfulness waver, and she glanced behind her, realizing there wasn't very much room to move. The echoes flickered, scrambling to guess what he was going to do.
Apparently, not surrender.
The splash caught her by surprise and while she was still wiping water from her face he attacked. Evelyn let out a squeal of laughter and back pedaled away away from the unexpected tickling, still half-way blinded by her own hair. "Hey that's not--" Squeak. "Fair! I'm ticklish! Cheater!" She swatted at him, which was mostly ineffective considering she was laughing too hard to aim. The rest of her attempted threats were buried in giggles.
The downside of ticking someone while underwater was that one ran out of air very quickly. She squirmed and swatted at him, which made the half-underwater battle all kinds of confusing. Gawain finally had to come up for air and he laughed at her, holding his hands up. It was a smaller kind of a miracle that the bikini was still in place.
"All right all right, I'm done, I'm done" he grinned, looking at her. Braid or no braid, her hair was all over the place, and it looked cute. "You do realize I have just learned something new and potentially dangerous about you..."

By the time Gawain came up from the water, Evelyn was breathless from giggling. Her cheeks were pink, and her hair had definitely seen better days. She felt like a drowned mouse with her hair sticking to her back and shoulders. She was happy, and mad at him at the same time. It was a good mad though. Perhaps 'playfully annoyed' was the proper terminology.
"Brat." She huffed, trying and failing to resist a smile. She crossed her arms across her chest and stuck her tongue out, the taste of chlorine clinging to her lips. His sly grin was cute though, and she couldn't help smiling back.
As her pulse settled back down, Evelyn quickly checked the knot of her bathing suit to make sure it hadn't loosened during the scuffle, then pulled her hair back to one side. She blinked at Gawain's comment then waggled a finger at him warningly. "Hey, I say using that new information gives you an unfair advantage. Foul play." She scooted backwards one more step and the echoes followed her gaze looking for any sigh he'd start again. Hands up or not, she wouldn't have put it past him to try.
