The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The full moon was the only thing visible in the night sky. A cool breeze blew through the trees, making their leaves rustle and shake. Kaitlyn stood and waited outside of the Mansion’s back door, picnic basket in her hands. Her heart was beating a little faster than usual, and her knees were shaking a little more than usual. She was nervous.
She had been planning this night for a while. Only after checking the weather and making sure there would be a clear sky with a full moon did she actually ask Victoria to meet her. She had been running around for almost half an hour, making sure everything was ready. She was even wearing makeup – she almost never wore makeup!
Now, all that was left for her to do was wait for Victoria to show up. Kaitlyn had told her to meet her out here at midnight, that they would have a picnic. Beyond that, she hadn’t elaborated.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
When Kait approached Victoria with the invitation to a midnight picnic the little vampire couldn’t wait for the day to come. The thought of a midnight picnic sounded wonderful to the girl. Plus it would be with her dear friend Kait. Victoria couldn’t help but think of how lucky she was to have made such a good friend.
On the night of the picnic Victoria put on a simple lavender colored dress and instead of putting her hair in her trademark ponytails she decided to leave her hair down and brushed it out until it was soft and shiny. She made her way through the mansion to the designated meeting place and smiled big when she saw Kait already waiting for her.
“Hi Kait! I’ve been looking forward to this ever since you told me about it.” Giving Kait a big hug she waited to see where they were going to set up their picnic.

Once Victoria showed up, Kaitlyn’s heart started fluttering. She didn’t think to set down her basket before Victoria started hugging her, making it nearly impossible for her to return the hug. For some reason, she thought this was the funniest thing ever; she couldn’t stop herself from giggling. Maybe being around the vampire girl was just making her giddy.
“I’ve actually been working on this for a few months,” said the excited redhead. “But I don’t want to spoil too much until we get there. By the way, I love what you did with your hair!” She started leading Victoria towards the hedge maze.
A Kaitlyn who hadn’t met Victoria couldn’t have imagined herself being this bubbly. Their relationship brought something out in Kaitlyn that she didn’t know were there.
With the hug completed Victoria listened to her friend. Working on this for months? Were night time picnics that much harder to make than one during the day like normal people had? She noticed the basket being held by Kait. Wonders of what were in the basket filled her head but she’d just have to wait to find out.
Smiling big at the compliment to her hair Victoria blushed slightly. “Aitah Kait! I don’t know why but I thought I’d leave it down for tonight since it’s such a nice night and you’re here.”
Watching where they were going the vampire girl recognized the hedge maze. She had been through it numerous times during her night time walks when no one was around to talk to. She’d make up little games and go through the maze. Now she was going into it with someone who was special to her so it could only be that much better.

With a smirk, Kaitlyn’s free hand wrapped around one of Victoria’s as they entered the maze. Thanks to the moonlight, it was easy enough for her to see where they were going. Kaitlyn knew the way to the maze’s center by heart. Her arm was getting tired from carrying that basket; just another reason for her to look forward to getting there.
“We’re almost there.”
They rounded one last corner. The center of the maze was just as Kaitlyn had left it. The flowers she planted around the gazebo were all in bloom. Moonflowers wrapped around the gazebo’s supporting columns, clusters of casablanca lilies and evening primroses and four o’clocks surrounded the structure. In the center of the gazebo, there were some towels laid out for them to sit on, right next to several lit candles.
“So, what do you think?” She turned to Victoria and smiled.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Feeling Kait’s hand grasp one of her own Victoria smiled sweetly. She walked beside Kait through the maze. Her mind wondering still what kind of picnic they were about to have.
She didn’t have long to wait as they arrived at the maze’s center. The gazebo and the surrounding area looked so beautiful with all the flowers and the candles. Giving Kait’s hand a gentle squeeze Victoria turned and hugged the red haired girl. “It’s so beautiful!” Letting go of Kait the vampire ran up to the gazebo and walked around smelling the different flowers. Many of which she hadn’t seen before. “These are so wonderful Kait! This is very special and I can’t stop smiling.”

Victoria’s hug left Kaitlyn with a big, giddy smile on her face. She set the basket down on one of the towels and pulled a few things out: two wine glasses and large bottle filled with something that closely resembled champagne. It was actually just sparkling grape juice, according to the label, but at least they would get to feel classy while they drank it.
“I helped the gardener grow them!” she said, beaming with pride. “She let me choose most of flowers we’d grow. I chose the kinds that only bloom at night, so you’d get to see all of them.”

Walking back to where her dearest friend had spread out a towel Victoria didn’t notice anything else had been set out. She was too busy staring at Kait in a state of awe. Hearing that she had made sure to grow flowers just for Victoria made the blonde girl’s eyes start to water while her lips still wore a sweet smile.
Tears slowly rolled down her blushing cheeks as Victoria stood there looking at Kait. She never expected anything like this from anyone. Her breathing was slightly sporadic as she fought to find something to say. “This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me Kait. It truly means a lot to me.” Wiping one of her eyes she smiled more and giggled softly.
This night would forever be etched into the little vampire’s mind.

“You’re crying.” It took several worried moments for Kaitlyn to realize why. Those were tears of joy. Kaitlyn had just made Victoria so happy that she was crying.
Smiling softly, her hand met Victoria’s cheek, wiping away the rest of her tears. Then, it slid through golden hair to the back of Victoria’s neck. Kaitlyn moved closer. She gazed into her eyes – those big, beautiful eyes with those gorgeous red irises – until their faces were just a few inches away from each other.
Her eyes closed. Craning her neck back and standing on her toes, she brought her now-puckered lips as close to the taller girl’s as she could get them.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!

A simple shrug of her shoulders was the response to Kait’s comment. Victoria couldn’t help but shed a few tears. Everything was so beautiful and it had been pieced together by Kait. Feelings and emotions had been put into the creation of this amazing evening.
Tilting her head slightly to Kait’s gentle touch as tears were wiped away, Victoria stared deep into the red haired girl’s eyes. She could see someone who cared and who understood. Someone she would never forget.
The sensation of fingers on the back of her neck was both exciting as well as calming all at once. When Kait moved closer Victoria lowered her face down towards her friend meeting lips together. Arms wrapped around the smaller girl and held her tightly.
…That last part kind of ruined the moment. Kaitlyn tried to ignore it. The kiss continued a few seconds longer, despite her stomach’s protests. Her lips pulled away, and her eyes met Victoria’s again. She chuckled, embarrassed.
“Uh… grape juice?” Kaitlyn had to wiggle around in Victoria’s embrace to gesture at the bottle on the floor. While she loved being in Victoria’s arms, it would be difficult to do the whole picnic thing like that.

The embrace and kiss were very sweet and wonderful. Victoria was getting more used to doing such things with Kait. She just felt comfortable with the shorter girl. In the time Victoria had been at the mansion Kait had helped out at some critical times not to mention allowing the vampire to feed directly from the girl.
“Grape juice? Umm…sure!” Letting go of her dear friend and following to the towel she sat down and watched Kait. “Shouldn’t you eat something though?”

“Well, uh… I’m still banned from the kitchen.” Kaitlyn had been complaining about this to Victoria, on occasion. The kitchen only got blown up once. “But they let me get some P.B. and J.” She tried to sound optimistic about the sandwiches. While she was still upset that she couldn’t do something more impressive, it wasn’t really a big deal.
She pulled a few saran-wrapped sandwiches out of the basket, then grabbed the bottle. It hissed as the lid came off. Victoria’s glass was filled first. It looked just like champagne; pale yellow, fizzy. Kaitlyn was certain that this made the picnic 100% classier.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
A sweet smile and a slight nod acknowledged Kait’s comment about the kitchen. “It’s ok. I was just worried about you. You’re hungry and need to eat so I’m glad you could get a little something.” Victoria hoped she hadn’t embarrassed her friend by calling out the tummy rumbles.
Victoria still hadn’t told Kait that she didn’t really eat “normal” food so that she could keep up some kind of an appearance of being at least partially normal. Everything tasted the same, but it just wasn’t what her body required for nutrition.
Smiling nearly non-stop Victoria picked up her glass and pretended to be a well-to-do lady at a fancy party. Holding her glass with her pinky out and changing her voice to try to sound more mature. “This looks like a fine beverage. Befitting of us ladies. Harumph!” A giggle followed immediately after.

Kaitlyn started laughing, spilling some of the juice she was pouring into her own glass.
“Harumph? Who even says that?” The orderling giggled like it was one of the most hilarious things she’d ever heard in her life. It sounded like an archaic… word? Expression? Whatever it was, she could barely imagine how ridiculous people would sound in a time when ‘harumph’-ing was commonplace.
Though, to be honest, the fact that it came out of Victoria’s mouth might have made it a little funnier.
She bit into one of the sandwiches.
