The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Well that was less painful than expected. Persi had expected to be kicked, maybe stepped on, something like that. Instead, he was just pulled up again.
And Brute seemed to regret not kicking him. That made more sense. At least Persi's world was predictable.
...And Brute found a way around it. Almost as predictable. Ducking, of course; like Persi was actually going to succeed at that. Bruce must have some fairly strict rules for what he could do to Persi, if he was going to that much effort to make beating him up legitimate.
And to taunt him. Also predictable, though annoying. "Yeah right." As if Persi was ever going to be good at this stuff. Maybe if he set up some sort of trap to keep Bruce still he could punch him, but that didn't seem particularly practical, and wasn't a good thing to do anyway.
Persi did duck. In the more literal, untrained sense, while jumping backwards. He was absolutely certain that was not what Bruce had in mind, but that was too bad; it had worked, which the duck he was supposed to be learning almost certainly wouldn't.
Well, that worked too. "Good enough. Now look down and think, are you going to be able to get back in and strike fast enough to stop it being obvious? Are you far enough away to turn and run? The answer to both is no, and your reach certainly isn't long enough against mine. So here' what's about to happen, you're going to do what I tell you too, or I fail you. Know what happens when you fail boarding school?" Cafas took a steep in and put his hand firmly on Perci's shoulder. He got his face nice and close, glaring right into the brat's eyes. "They kick you out."
Which is in theory true.
He removed his hand and stepped a tiny bit back. "Now, guard up, in stance and do it properly." Cafas really didn't know why they bothered with some people. This kid really needed to grow up, what was he, fifteen? Sixteen? He acted thirteen. Cafas considered telling him so. He decided that was likely unnecessary, he imagine others had done it for him by now.

...Persi didn't want to be kicked out.
And considering how common kicked out seemed to be here, Brute probably knew it. Certainly knew it, since he was using it against Persi. And Persi hated him for that, even more than for taking the sketchbook.
Fine. It took some time, but Persi managed as close to the stance as he could remember. It probably wasn't right anyway, but he really, honestly couldn't learn these things that well. He'd tried plenty of times; it didn't work.
But fine. Brute wanted effort, Persi could do that. Not skill, and not talent, and not ability, but it turned out that there was plenty of effort to be had when he was furious and didn't have any way to express it at all. So Persi could do effort.
And his eyes hurt because of the sun, and his head was pounding because he was glaring and clenching his teeth, and his heart was racing because he was furious, because Brute did not have the right to do that. Except he did.
Cafas honestly wished he hadn't had to stoop to that level. The kid didn't listen though, and had no respect, so he had to be brought down, because otherwise he'd end up in far more trouble than he was already.
The rest of the lesson went by at a rage fuelled but ultimately rather disciplined pace. Not much out of the kid after that point. Cafas had to give him props for that, and for putting in the effort. Heck, he put in more than Cafas would have asked. He covered the same punches as last time (which though the kid seemed unlikely to admit it, he was improving at) and taught him elbowing as well, seeing as he was keen to learn it. Or to use it, anyway.
Thank god for that.
When Cafas felt they'd done enough (A little early) he took a step back, grabbed the sketchbook out of the tree and extended it towards Persi. "That was good Persi. Look. That was low, earlier, I'm sorry. And I'm sorry I hit you. You asked for today's, but the others were genuine accidents. I know you don't want to do this, and that's fine, but you're doing well, really you are. Plus, taking a swing at me was pretty ballsy." Cafas smiled. He knew it probably wouldn't matter but, well, there you had it.
"Look, next lesson is going to be about active dodging and footwork. This stuff will be in it, but that's the focus. Anyway, you're done, enjoy the rest of your day."
Cafas took a step back, and pressed the send button on his phone. Persi would find his pencil case in his room.

It turned out that captive rage was good for fueling effort. It also turned out that fueling effort was not so good for disposing of captive rage. By the time the lesson ended, he wasn't really seeing or hearing anything on a conscious level; enough seeped in to keep him obedient and on his feet, but otherwise he was aware of heartbeat and rushing blood and pain, and how dare he how dare he HOW DARE HE? Somewhere along the line he had twisted from Brute threatening him to his parents kicking him out in the first place to the church's priest not teaching them anything else to God making Persi a mutant to Persi being mad at God to Brute causing the entire chain to blind, howling fury. How dare he!
When the lesson ended, Persi didn't see the sketchbook, or comprehend anything Brute said. The compliments were lost, as was the apology; Persi wouldn't have believed them anyway, if he'd heard them. All that did filter through was done, after a moment, and as soon as it did Persi spun and left. How dare he how dare he how dare he howdarehe?!
Brute was saying something. Persi didn't know what it was, and didn't care. It took a few seconds to get speech past the fury (and soaked in it, though that wasn't intentional). "F*** you!" How dare he! How could he?
Persi made it about ten more steps before he couldn't stop himself from sprinting for the forest. Blood racing and exhaustion; his stomach was still bruised and twisted by cramps, his lungs were burning and he couldn't see past the headache and he could not lose the rage now, Persi needed to get to the forest.
He did get to the forest, eventually. And then the rage broke, mostly, except for a few sharp pieces he couldn't seem to hold onto any longer when he started crying.
