The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawain's hands slowly stopped working on the sandwiches and came to stands till as he leaned on the table. Evelyn was going off on another of her information sprees, and as usual, she had a point. Gawain hated that. But she had a point. He took a deep breath, not looking up just yet.
>>"I guess what I'm trying to say is, you may be able to help her, and I hope you keep your promise. But her perception on the world may just be different than yours. She may not be 'bad'. But hopefully you don't expect to make her your version of 'good'."
He chuckled a little bit.
"Maxine has never been anyone's version of anything." he shook his head "I took her into Sleeping Beauty once. By accident. She took over as the Evil Queen and made me punch a fairy..."
He chuckled again.
"... well, actually, I think I wanted to punch that fairy anyway."
He finally looked up at Eve.
"I see your point though. It makes sense. But I... owe her too much to let her run around burning the city. Even if it means I'll have to fight her."
Evelyn blinked at Gawain's story, and a small laugh escaped her mouth. It was a rare thing for her; she smile a lot but didn't laugh much, but it felt nice and took away some of the tension she was feeling. She pushed her hair from her face and shook her head. "Something tells me going into any movie with you would be an adventure though." She remarked, and looked back up, trying not to let her echoes take over again.
She nodded at his last comment.
"You'll do what you have to." Was all she said in agreement. Her mind drifted for a moment and a flicker of a memory passed through; shattering glass at the museum. It was enough to cause her to jump and wake her back up.
>>"Something tells me going into any movie with you would be an adventure though... You'll do what you have to."
Gawain smiled when he saw her laugh. She looked a lot more relaxed than just minuted before. Having all that information in her head had to be hard work. Finishing the sandwiches he picked one of the plates up and walked over to her.
"When all this is over" he said, meaning the riots, and Maxine, and the whole no-sleep craziness of the X-team "I'll take you into any movie you want."
It was a promise that came with an unspoken clause: Stay safe until then.
Evelyn lightly took the plate he handed her, and thanked him before taking a small bite of the sandwich. As he spoke, she chewed a little slower, before one corner of her mouth tilted into a smile. Part of her doubted she could stay cooped up during the riots duration, but if she stayed as tired as she was, it might be the only option.
"That's an enticing offer. I'll have to start brushing up on my movie knowledge. Guess there isn't much else to do in the meantime." She contemplated. She set the plate down next to her and leaned against her knees. The movement let her hair fall into a wall across her face as she rubbed her temples. Then she straightened back up again.
"I need paper...I'm going crazy without my art supplies." She admitted picking up her glass of water and taking another drink.
>>"That's an enticing offer. I'll have to start brushing up on my movie knowledge. Guess there isn't much else to do in the meantime... I need paper...I'm going crazy without my art supplies."
And there it was. The thing she had done before, with the doodling and the sketches. The paintings in the museum. Art. Apparently art was the thing holding it all together. Gawain smirked and took a bit of his sandwich.
"Ya don't need to sneak out for that ya know" he said "We've got an art room. We had an art teacher too, somewhere..."
That was a painful topic. He dropped it as if it was hot.
"Anyhow, no one's gonna bother you if you wanna take it over. Classes are out at the moment anyway."
At the word 'art room' Evelyn's expression lit up, and she momentarily looked like he had offered her the keys to the Louvre. It was silly, but she didn't expect there to be an art room here, at least not one she could mess around with. Having supplies and a place to work would make this place seem less restrictive, and she blinked her eyes with momentary disbelief. "I could, I just, I--"
She was at a loss for words. So she sucked in a breathe and took a bite of her sandwich to readjust her echoes and thoughts. Swallowing, she felt more collected. "I would really appreciate being able to see the art room." She said more quietly, and her cheeks got a pink tint to them. When she talked about most things, she tended to sound robotic. But art was the one area that really made her feel alive. It broke rules, and it couldn't always be explained, and the emotions it created took away the negativity and the pain that life seemed to have too much of.
She continued eating, trying not to be overexcited.
>>"I could, I just, I-- I would really appreciate being able to see the art room."
Gawain laughed and covered his mouth. Evelyn was cute when she tripped up in her role of being an all-knowing brat. Apparently the promise of art supplies was enough to do that. Suddenly amused by the thought the young knight almost choked on the sandwich.
"All right, but finish your sandwich first" he chuckled "You don't wanna bring food in there. And Eve? if ya need more supplies, let me know and I'll get them. It's getting nasty outside."

Gawain's laughter caused a flicker of irritation to move through her, but it passed quickly. At least he was smiling, even if it was at her expense. She obediently ate more of the sandwich, if nothing else than to avoid the slight awkwardness she felt.
If she could see her own echoes they would probably be purring at her embarrassment.
His last offer also took her a bit off guard. A flicker of concern passed through her head. Was she off her game? Was she really that tired? She wasn't reading quite as much as she normally did, and she should probably fix that. Then again, Gawain was one of the rare people who managed to confuse her at times. He went from one extreme to the other, being incredibly friendly than incredibly pissed off all in the same encounter. Part of that could have been her fault though. She had a way of putting normally chill people on edge.
"I'll consider it... But having you out there getting them still means someone is out there in that. Last thing I need is you getting busted up trying to retrieve a sketchbook." She remarked. She took another bite and tried to swallow down the slight guilt that idea gave her. "I mean, I was already dumb enough to make you risk your neck over some paintings. Kinda think your more valuable than that." Slight shrug, another bite, for once she was keeping her sentences short.

"Trust me I have risked more for less." Gawain smirked, finally regaining the cocky grin that had left him around the start of the riots. "Plus I can be very sneaky."
He did not need to elaborate on that, she had had first hand experience with the mirrorwalking. He also did not need to tell her that mirrorwalking could be used for a whole deal of activities... Mirror still had his first bow that he had acquired through sorting through archery shops that he did not exactly walk into through the front door...
"But thank you for calling me valuable" he added with a smirk "I'll make sure to merind ya of that next time we fight."

>> "Plus I can be very sneaky."
A twinkle filled Evelyn's eyes, and a light laugh managed to escape again. She gave a grin with a mischievous tilt of her head as her echoes processed that statement. "Remind me to throw a towel of the mirror if I think you're in a mood for sneaking." She remarked with a light edge to it, then shook her head. "Not that I really look at mirrors much anyway. Ironic fact: I am not a big fan of mirrors. They make my head hurt." She took another bite of her sandwich, and pushed her hair from her face. After chewing for a moment she continued.
"If you wandered into a mirror at my house you would find yourself face to face with a wall. If I stare at them too long the echoes start focusing on myself and that is generally not my favorite experience." The only mirrors she left alone were the ones in the bathroom, and that was so she could get ready in the morning. As long as she could focus the echoes on a portion of the reflection, like her hair, it didn't bother her, but any passing glances were too much to deal with on a daily basis.
>> "But thank you for calling me valuable."
"Don't let it get to your head." She said, quickly covering for herself. "You already think you're a knight. Besides, most of the time when we fight you're the angry one. I like to think I keep a pretty level head." The playful edge came back to her voice, and she finished off the last bite of her sandwich. Feeling a little less light headed with food in her system she stretched and moved to set her plate in the sink.
>>"Remind me to throw a towel of the mirror if I think you're in a mood for sneaking. Not that I really look at mirrors much anyway. Ironic fact: I am not a big fan of mirrors. They make my head hurt."
Gawain snorted at the accusation - even when he did walk into female friends' mirrors he always knocked first to avoid awkwardness. He tilted his head in curiosity, though. Did someone have a traumatic childhood game of Bloody Mary?...
>>"If you wandered into a mirror at my house you would find yourself face to face with a wall. If I stare at them too long the echoes start focusing on myself and that is generally not my favorite experience."
"Oh, not much fun is it when it's happening to you" the mirrorwalker chuckled. That had to be an interesting experience, your own mutant power analyzing itself...
>>"Don't let it get to your head. You already think you're a knight. Besides, most of the time when we fight you're the angry one. I like to think I keep a pretty level head."
"My lady you wound me" Gawain pressed a hand to his chest as she walked away from him "But I am a knight!" Of course the second comment could not be left uncountered. It was clearly said with cheek, and as such, it called for a trump. Level head indeed.
"You know" he said more quietly, walking up behind her and leaning to her ear "I bet I could make you lose your cool..."
If you want to confuse the socially awkward genius: flirt with them.

Ok, so his laughter might be deserved in this instance. Yes, she could ditch out the dirt but had trouble taking it. But the problem with the echoes was they knew her. It was one thing guessing and analyzing a stranger, but there was no hiding from yourself. She rolled her eyes at Gawain though. "The last thing I need is to sit and listen to my reflection tell me I'm socially awkward and don't play well with others. Read that story, don't need the audio book." She remarked lightly.
>>"But I am a night!"
"You ARE?!" she gasped with fake enthusiasm, moving her cup into the sink next to the plate. Her sleepy echoes tried to notify her of the movement of footsteps, but didn't think much of it.
Until his voice was right next to her ear. She jumped like a cat that got it's tail stepped on and scooted a few feet to the right. "Hey now! That's not fair! I'm running on 5 hours of sleep in the past four days, I'm jumpy enough as it is," she accused. Her neck tingled from his breathe and her echoes scrambled like a jolt of electricity went through them. She waggled a finger at the mirror walker, and then crossed her arms defensively.
>>"Hey now! That's not fair! I'm running on 5 hours of sleep in the past four days, I'm jumpy enough as it is,"
Gawain grinned as she turned around, and stepped back to admire his work. Yup, she was totally off her game.
"What, that's all it took?" he chuckled, folding his arms too "Did I jam the signal?"
This was getting more fun now. On the one hand, he could get back at Evelyn for all the analyzing she gave him earlier, and on the other hand it felt like they were close enough to play games like that. With all the annoying quirks and the cheeky personality, Evelyn was a cool person. And Gawain needed someone to be silly with, especially these days.

Evelyn frowned at him and her lips pursed into a tight line. Then she stuck out her tongue and backed up into the island in the center of the kitchen. "Yes. No. I'm not exactly used to dealing with guys, ok? Jensen was pretty good at scaring them off." She huffed and pushed her hair from her face.
Her mouth gave a little twitch again and she exhaled through her nose. "Signals are working just fine, hotshot. Just keep your twinkle-toes on the other side of the kitchen." She pointed to the spot on the floor he was standing on in a 'stay!' motion, then slowly started towards the door of the kitchen.
Getting art supplies outside the school seemed like a better idea. She wasn't sure she liked having someone play games with her---
Eve scurried away from him, which just made him want to laugh more. Yup, he definitely found the weakness in the Sherlock system: intimate human interaction. Jensen must have been one hell of a bodyguard...
>>"Yes. No. I'm not exactly used to dealing with guys, ok? Jensen was pretty good at scaring them off."
"Good think I'm only a guy half the time then" he grinned, holding up his hands in a sign of surrender. He meant her no harm.
>>"Signals are working just fine, hotshot. Just keep your twinkle-toes on the other side of the kitchen."
"Whatever" he shrugged, watching her walk out with a smirk on his face "You know where to find me."
She glanced back before she walked out of the kitchen. Gawain winked at her.
