The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn felt a small chuckle escape as she listened to the list of different students. So maybe having voices in her head wasn't the worst sort of power she could have. She did give a slight shiver at the idea of spiders sprouting from under someone's skin. And the general idea of possibly having a room mate. She had been an only child in an empty house for most of her life, and while Jensen stuck around he was more like a shadow outside the door making sure the monsters from the closet didn't come out to eat you.
Maybe they had real monsters in the closets here...
"I can always try talking to them... It may take a little bit of convincing, but at least here maybe Jensen wouldn't have to stick around all the time. He could actually go get a real job like he's always wanted to. I mean maybe they----wait, what's an adapted?" Her brain raced through any form of memory associated with the word, but nothing clicked. She stopped doodling and turned her full attention back to mirror. She tried to drown the little flicker of hope rising up at the thought of silencing the echoes for even a moment.
She missed the burning angel joke. Then the declaration that she was a mutant settled in. She looked at her feet and frowned.
"I guess so. I just... I've never felt like a mutant. I mean, you guys turned the park into a fun house with ice sculptures and there was giant monsters a little kid created. I can't do anything like that. I've always kinda felt not quite human, but not quite 'mutant' either." Her brain drifted back to the idea of silencing the echoes.

Maya blinked. Evelyn did not know about adapteds. Granted, not many civilians did, which was just as good, because mutants tended to see them with suspicion, and their powers were easy to use against them. Still, Miss T had proven useful on more than one occasion, and not just because of her aura.

"Yeeah. Well, every mutation is different." Maya shrugged "Adapteds are not mutants. They are people who somehow managed to grow an aura of some sorts, one that just flat out cancels mutant powers when ya are in it. First time I saw it I landed on my face out of a mirror. It was awkward."
Mostly because she had landed on a half-naked and very pissed off lady, but Evelyn did not need to know that.
Evelyn pushed her hair out of her face and contemplated what exactly this information meant. There was someone who could cancel out her mutant powers... There was someone who could make the echoes go away, if only for a little bit. And the Playbacks...If she was close enough to them when she slept, she wouldn't have to relive her memories every night. Part of that was appealing.
But part of that was terrifying.
She relied on her echoes. They made it so she understood what people were thinking, and doing, and knew when they were lying. It was silly, but letting go of that would feel like suddenly standing naked in front of a large crowd of people. Perhaps, in a way, she did like her mutation. But it sounded very selfish thinking of it out-loud.
So she changed the subject, and a slow smile crawled across her face. "Well, considering you just invited yourself into my room without knocking I think the level of awkward you can create would be high. How do I know you don't just go around spying on people now?"

Maya huffed and rolled her eyes.
"See? See that right there?" she said, pointing at her, just short of poking her on the nose with her index finger "That's what I'm talkin' about here. It's a team reflex, y'know: someone screams in the building, one of us' bound to show up. Ya said ya don't wanna be a damsel anymore, in need of protecting. We can teach you that. It's not about what your powers can or can't do. My powers don't help with archery at all. I learned that on my own. You could do the same. And then I don' have to drag my pretty ass outta bed every time ya have a nightmare. Hm?"
Evelyn grinned, and firmly pushed Maya's finger away from her nose. "Well thank you for dragging your pretty ass out of bed to check on me this time. I may complain about not needing protection, but it isn't always a bad feeling knowing at least someone has my back. Well, when you're not trying the whole tree climbing thing." She flicked the drawing up from the desk and held it up. "But look how tough you looked just flailing like that!"
Her echoes listened to the eerie silence of the mansion. The desk had some carving along the side from a different occupant, the mirror was decorative but fake. The bedsheets were worn but cared for, and the walls could use some paint. She wondered if she could paint a room here if she got one... It would be odd only having a room to herself. There is no way her art supplies would all fit...
"You should get some sleep. I'm used to going without it but It's still pretty early. Plus, your dog has been waiting outside since you got here." She pointed a thumb at the door where she could still here the quiet whimpering.

"Ohhh no ya did not." Maya snatched the paper from her and held it out of reach "If this leaves the room, missy, I will throw you off a building."
No she would not. But still, the picture was damn good. Sadly, also very recognizable.
She could tell that Evelyn was actually considering the whole Mansion thing. It was a good sign. She was too special to just disappear back into jerk-parent-land.
>>"You should get some sleep. I'm used to going without it but It's still pretty early. Plus, your dog has been waiting outside since you got here."
"Yeah whatever" Maya stood from the chair and shook her head to hide a smirk "Don't make a habit out of it. Get some sleep. Sam will talk to you tomorrow. I'll see ya around."
