The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A trace of guilt filled the woman's face. Perhaps a flicker of anger, sadness of course. The echoes stored this away for later. Evelyn felt a little guilty about it, but the information was necessary to help out. Yet the more she studied the more she felt she was seeing something very private flicker across her companions face. It was that invasion of privacy that made people skittish around her. Normally, she tuned it out for their sake, but this time, she needed to know. So she let the information come.
"I have time. The museum won't miss me today, and I'll go in tonight to make sure everything was packed up correctly." Evelyn said with a light nod, and then as Maya gathered up her belongings she stood with her. She waited as the woman sorted out her location and figured out which was she was going next. The stress from whatever had occurred that moment still had her companion disoriented, and she guessed this separation had not been going well. Especially with a baby the woman was trying to raise alone.
Evelyn kept pace with the fast footsteps of Maya, yet her pace was somewhat breezy compared to the determined walking of the mother. The weight of the child made her steps seem a little more definite than some of the walkers, and Evelyn's thin frame and lack of things to carry made her shuffle much more quiet and graceful. She couldn't imagine being a mother... not really. Especially not when she had the voices constantly speaking in her head. There was no silence, no release from the things she had to listen to.
Quiet... how she longed for quiet... a child certainly wouldn't be the answer to that desire.
"Whatever happened to take you away is of little consequence now. What is important is it did, and your husbands reaction to that departure may help us locate him now. Perhaps, he is looking, in his own sense. But whatever has kept him away could make finding anything difficult." Her mind ran through a list of reasons he could be away. Captivity, blackmail, memory loss, injury... injury seemed less likely because Maya had been checking with hospitals. That left memory loss, blackmail or captivity. The last two could rules out of encouraged more based on whatever they found at the store.
She didn't miss the guilt, however, and the slight cringe that passed the woman's features. Something about her disappearance had likely not been her own idea. Ironic but sad would be if both wife and husband had faced the same thing keeping them apart.
Reaching the door, she took another sip of her latte, and let her eyes skim across the exterior. [Some furniture newer than the rest; redecorated somewhat recently. Remodeled? Intentionally?] Sorting out exactly how recent some of that redecorating had taken place could further aid them, as well as the behavior of the individuals inside. "Speaking with Jude may help answer a few things. Do you by any chance know how recently some of this has been put in? Some things seem... newer." Evelyn asked. The artistic side of her brain complained about the purple furniture. The echoes shushed it.
"Welcome to Future Sight. Do you ladies have an appointment?"
Ghost tried to identify the girl by the descriptions Jude had given her. Letti was it? She knit judging by the yarn and needles that lay on the counter, but that was no help in this situation. Best to err on the side of caution and do without her "inside information." "Is Jude in? Ehm. I'm his mother, not a client."
The girl looked skeptical. Really skeptical. Maya hadn't actually ever come to visit him at work before. She shrugged apologetically.
"Juuuuude? Your mom and little brother are heeeeere."
It took a moment but eventually a young man -who actually looked equal in age, if not older, than Maya- came out from the back wearing a purple head swaddle with a gem that dangled down onto his forehead. He sipped from a coffee mug and spluttered when he saw them. He had a dark ponytail of hair that stuck out the back of his wrap and a five o'clock shadow that bordered on being an actual goatee.
"Ghost." Just one word and it was clear he was foreign. "Letitia, I got zis." Foreign was upgraded to French.
Letitia. Ah. The rat girl. She knit sweaters for her lieutenants or something like that. Maya remembered now.
Maya cleared her throat and passed Rowan to the young man in front of them in a way that suggested familiarity. "Jude, this is Evelyn, AKA Holmes. Like the Arthur Conan Doyle books?" Maya owned a book shop. Of course she had immediately gotten the reference. "She has agreed to help find Sebastian, but wanted to ask you a few questions. Do you have time?"
He didn't look entirely happy, but he nodded. The motion made the gem slither around his forehead which in turn prompted Rowan to attempt to climb up Jude so that he could claim the gem as his own.
As they stepped into the shop, Evelyn tried to take in her surroundings. It was a simple enough place, and Letitia seemed to be a knitter from the quick glance she shot across the counter. She was knitting something small--dolls perhaps? Hard to say at a passing look, but she didn't seem relevant right now so Evelyn shoved that information to the back burner.
As Jude came in his age surprised Evelyn a bit, to say the least. While he was Ghost's adopted son, something about him seemed too... old. The physical appearance seemed off, but the behavior seemed, young... His slight sputtering of the coffee, the manner in which the gem was wandering away and his general behavior towards his mother. It felt like a kid who was trying very hard to be an adult, but at most was just looking like it. The echoes in her head tried to sort out this information.
The French thing was also sorted away, but towards the area where she put the information about tiny sweaters.
"Thanks for your time, Jude. First off, how recently has this shop been re-arranged? Or... remodeled..." Her eyes skimmed the room, and focused on a few points that seemed not to fit the rest. She tried to stay calm, but asking questions of someone who would probably wish you were anywhere but there was always trying.
"Remodeled about a year ago? It got trashed zen shot withs bullets. Zat's when we went purple." He made a face about the purple.
"I like purple!" Came Letitia's reply from behind the curtain.
"Which iz why you never get to pick again, eavesdropper." Jude managed to keep Rowan from grabbing his head wrap, but only by constantly fending off the little chubby arms and shifting how and where he held the kid. The term baby juggling came to mind at the sight.
"Sebastian was here then? Before the remodel?"
"I guess. No. I mean, yes. He was. Definitely outside anyway. Zat's where I spoke to him. We sink he and Noelle wrecked ze place for revenge or somesing since we were working to keep zem from ending ze world." Jude was so matter of fact it sounded a bit like lunacy. "Ghost, give him up. He's not coming back." He was gentle about his assessment, but firm.
Maya took Rowan back with more than a little resistance from the kiddo. He wanted that gem. "I won't. I can't."
Jude frowned but let her be. He turned his full attention to Evelyn. "Care to see your future Ms. Holmes?"
Evelyn listened politely to his information, and slowly sifted through the things he said. Bullet holes, damage to the shop, and shortly after a remodel. It seemed odd that Sebastian would come and talk with them outside, then later trash the inside of the store. Bullet holes seemed even odder. She wished she could have seen the place before they fixed it.
As the attention focused on her, Evelyn gave a small smile but shook her head on to the offer. "I know one too many things as it is. The last thing I need to know is the future." She remarked. It was almost a joke to her. She had the power to examine the present. She never forgot. The last thing she needed was anyone trying to sort out her future.
Then again, she could probably predict it. Rich mutant goes crazy with voices in her head. her life had no hope of ever finding a normal resolution.
She felt even more determined to help her new acquaintance mend her own confusion life.
"What was the time frame between your talk outside and what happened in here? Did he come after you closed or something? It seems odd you would have missed hearing gunfire unless it happened when no one was around." There was no accusation to the statement, merely an observation. She was piecing together a time line. If something was keeping him away, it was looking more likely that something had been here. Gunfire suggested some less than gentle persuasion being considered, or a fight... Her thoughts were only guesses until the echoes could start clicking things together.
As ruggedly handsome and dashing as Jude was, the lady still turned him down flat. Hn. He readjusted his sunglasses and was tempted to take a taste of this lady's power. It apparently made her immune to a good smile.
"Fair enough." There were days when Jude wished he could give up this future business. Maybe he would. Soon. Not today, though.
"Ah ze talking, trashing and shooting were sthree separate incidents. In zat order. Also I was not here for ze shooting, but Kat was." Jude noticed Ghost cringing. "Sorry, but clearly she iz okay now." Not that Jude had seen her recently what with her going off and visiting colleges and the like. Perhaps Jude should go to college when he was old enough. Maybe that would make Ghost happy.
What would make this Holmes person happy was more information so Jude obliged. "Ze shooting was a response to ze newspaper article about us, confessed when ze perpetrators were captured." Really? Nothing? Most girls at least cracked a smile when he said perpetrators. It just rolled so much more robustly from his more cultured tongue. "It was ze last straw before we really had to redecorate. Before when it was just messed up we tried to just clean up mostly."
Jude looked around for something that may have been left from that time. "Uhh, ze phone and zat wall are original? Ze counter top looked like it had somesing thrown sthrough." He tried to remember what it looked like after Sebastian had been there. "Zis wall was dented. Stuff was torn up? We had hypothesized it was a fight at first, but sere was no apparent loser. No blood really. Some ink? We don't store ink to have spilled so zat was odd." He shrugged. It was the best he could do really.
Ghost put her hand on Jude's forearm and mouthed the words thank you.
"Did that help at all?" Maya had no idea of what to think about Sebastian's bizarre behavior.

Talking, trashing, shooting; three incidents. Evelyn made a little note of it, and contemplated what each of them could mean. The talking was simple enough: Sebastian confronted them, they talked, end of story. She knew that much. The trashing part she had to isolate, and she sifted through the information like she was separating it into files in her mind. The note that cat was there for the shooting meant there may be more information to that one. The trashing seemed to be the isolated incident that really made no sense.
Just like a husband disappearing without trying to contact his wife.
She wasn't too caught up in her analysis for the echoes not to note how Jude seemed disappointed by her lack of...interest? After he talked about the shooting, his face seemed expectant but she gave no reaction. Disappointment. Why would he be disappointed? The accent, that must be it. Or appearance? She shot a quick glance back at him, noted he was what was generally considered good looking. Dismissed it. She was harder to impress when it game to looks and accents. 24 years old, still single, never had a successful date.
He would have better luck elsewhere.
She looked at the phone and the wall, no real signs from what happened. Something had been thrown through it...some form of senseless scuffle? Confusion. Confusion made sense with the idea of memory loss..."Did your husband have any special abilities that might have activated? Or Noel that you mentioned? With ink? Tattoos... something like that? I don't want to say anything too fast, but it almost seems like the actions are uncharacteristic, confused, amnesiac?" She said the last thing hesitantly.
"He can age shift. He could have easily become a child." Or a unicorn! Maya followed that thought with hope for a moment, but... no. The reports of him starting a church were adult sightings and if there had been a fight, surely a child would have lost that fight. Though that could explain for the lack of a loser? "Is it possible there was no blood because Sebastian can heal himself or others?"
Jude shrugged. What did he know? No one he had talked to had been in the shop while it was being torn up. "I know Noelle iz a mutant, somesing low level but I've never actually met ze girl and I waszn't about to get beat up for asking." He'd gotten that much from his digging into possible futures. Exactly the sort of thing that kept him here, he was totally hooked on the flow of information.
He cleared his throat. "She's kinda violent."
"But you said she's been laying low."
"End of ze world averted so off our radar."
Maya make a frustrated sound that made Rowan shift in her arms. "He's here somewhere. I feel like... like we just keep missing each other." And sort of like she got dumped for this Noel person, but she wasn't about to admit that out loud.

Evelyn thought about the information slowly, turning it over in her head. Finally, she nodded with finality. "Healing could make sense. A tattoo can be registered as an injury by the body, and if Sebastian healed a tattoo off Noel, that would explain having ink around. It's certainly a possibility. Though what it points to, that's less simple." She also contemplated what it meant having a mutant around with no understanding of their powers.
Perhaps she could make a husband leave his wife and disappear?
"I think, violent or not, asking her could answer some of your questions. Something about her presence here doesn't add up, in the same way your husband's disappearance doesn't. Beyond that, I'm not sure what else we can figure out..." She saw the frustration flicker through Ghost's expressions, a small amount of jealously mingling in. She wish she could say something to alleviate that, but the clues weren't helping things.
Tattoo. Of course. Sebastian had even healed a tattoo from Maya once.
>"I think, violent or not, asking her could answer some of your questions."
"You try asking her an' tell me how zat goes for you, Ms. Holmes."
Maya chewed her lip. She wanted to. She could even safely do it if she were to employ the use of her mutation. But she would need a baby sitter and she would have to risk losing more of herself. Was it worth it?
"Could you find her? Even though she is laying low?" Maya looked between Evelyn and Jude. Either of them could. Potentially. "I think it is worth the risk."
Jude looked at Evelyn. He didn't want to. Sebastian could stay gone for all he cared.

Evelyn gave a light shrug of her shoulders. "I've spoken to my share of...temperamental sorts in the past. I would ask her if I could but trailing after one missing person is hard enough. Unless you know somewhere to start to find her..." She remarked. She skimmed his face, trying to peg what his powers could be. That unfortunately seemed to one of the hardest things for echoes to sort out.
At Maya's request though she looked closer at the man. Something about his mother's expression seemed to suggest he may have a way to help. But there was a stubborn flicker, distaste... the echoes chirped their opinions.
"You could. You don't want to. You're still angry at him." She said pointedly, sharpening her gaze. She thought for another moment, and then gave a slow smile that had a dark edge to it.
"You're not as old as you look, are you? You try acting like an adult, but you're still a child at heart. And part of you is still wounded over what happened, so you're acting like a kid would." She tilted her head to the side and waited for his reaction. She was polite enough when she entered, but something about his behavior was annoying her. He was helping, but in a if I must sort of way.
A third party without any of the history that made Jude and Ghost biased might actually be a benefit when talking with Noel. He couldn't be sure of that, though. Not without reading Evelyn's future. He could come at the issue obliquely through Ghost's eyes if he had to, but if he was going to saddle anyone with extra baggage, let it be the stranger. Poor Ghost had been through enough.
And then Holmes smiled. Jude started to smile back automatically until he saw teeth.
"No." He twitched an eyebrow in amusement. "I am not." He had a smile of his own now. "But we 'ave no secrets here so if you are trying to blackmail me into helping my own mothzer...!" Jude touched his chest as if he were shocked and abashed at the thought.
"Juuude." She may not be his birth mother, but the tone was fitting a mom: a gentle reproof to cut the crap.
But he wasn't quite finished yet. "Oh. You may 'ave noticed Ghosty isn't my births mothzer. She rescued me before I was worths rescuing. It's her weakness, believing in people who don't yet deserve it. So before you even sink to take advantage of my Ghost know you'd 'ave to go sthrough me." He turned to Maya next. "Why won't you just let him go?"
Maya for her part was bouncing Rowan on her hip, unconcerned either way. "My weakness, as you put it. Don't I even get a chance to talk to him?"
There may have been some muttering on Jude's part before he steeled himself and took hold of Rowan to pass the toddler to Evelyn. "Hold zis." He wasn't worried, there were others in the store who could beat up a girl if she did anything to the squirt.
Rowan studied Evelyn intensely.
Jude took hold of Maya's chin and directed her face to his. "Make finding her your one intent. Decide to look for Noel no matter what."
He lifted his sunglasses and they locked eyes for only a few moments before Jude looked away and dropped the shades back in place. "Crap."
Maya looked more shaken than Jude, paler for sure. She reached out and had to hold onto something. "Soon then." Once she had recovered enough she took a moment to straighten up her appearance which really needed no straightening up and then reached for the child that did look like her. "Uhm. Thank you for your help Evelyn, but it doesn't seem like I'll be needing your services after all."

Evelyn expected a few different things to happen, but being handed a baby wasn't one of them. She stared at the child with a momentary expression somewhat like fear as his chubby hand wrapped around her long white hair and gave a tentative yank. The other fist was wet with saliva and she quickly readjusted him before he could leave a trail of slobber on her face. While Ghost was good at baby juggling, Evelyn looked much more like she was trying to escape a squid, tiny hands holding on unnaturally tight to her hair.
"Owe ow ow ow ow ow" She whimpered under her breathe and tried to watch what what happening around the baby's cheerful face. He seemed quite content with his catch. As her echoes focused he cooed at the color change. There was a level of concern, some bad news it seemed, and then Ghost was reaching for the baby.
She tried to hand him over, but he had a good hold on her by now. "Well, I hope you got the answers you were looking for at least. Or, ones that will help if nothing else." She said, feeling a little relieved and a little sad there wasn't anything else she could do.
She had to disentangle hair from fingers, but eventually Maya was able to retrieve Rowan. She tried to be gentle about it for both baby and Evelyn's sake. Plus moving slowly gave her time to process what she'd seen.
"Noel is with Sebastian." She clarified for Evelyn's sake and to confirm it for herself.
"Next Tuesday." He puffed out a breath. "Zey go on a date."
"I'm going home. I'll see you later, Jude. It was nice meeting you Evelyn. Thank you for your assistance." Running away? Sure. She needed to think. Jude had shown her only a piece of what she'd done when she saw him, them. She used her power for one thing. And she had been so mad. Now she had a little forewarning to temper that reaction.
Jude pulled the ridiculous head wrap off his head and ran his hands through his hair. He watched Ghost go. Now wasn't the time for 'I told you so's.

Eventually the baby was removed from Evelyn's hair and she tried to smooth her locks down and regain her dignity. The news she heard didn't reassure her though. Especially considering what they had discovered. Noel is with Sebastian. She could see the flicker of pain in the other woman's face, and the desperation she suddenly had to leave. The problem with reading people was it didn't teach Evelyn how to deal with them, and this time, Evelyn wasn't sure there was much else she could do.
"Nice meeting you." She said, and watched as the woman left, the echoes in her wake no better than when they met this morning. She glanced at Jude, and gave a nod of her head towards him. "I wish the news had been better."
