The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was time for Amber to take the next step in her role not only with her pack but with her mutant people as well. She had known it for some time; ever since returning from her time away hunting in the city. Her sister Aura was a soldier in the army and she knew Abyss and her uncles likewise fought for their people. A recent conversation with her sister had only served to reinforce the fact that it was time for her to actually start doing something proactive.
Amber knew she wasn't a soldier nor did she ever desire to become one. It wasn't that she was incapable of violence either in morality or action, but violence was not a way of life for. To wound should be in self defense or the defense of an ideal and to kill should only be to feed or to avoid being killed in turn or to protect others from being killed. She knew there were others that thrived on such acts but she viewed it as a slightly unpleasant necessity and to embrace it as something better seemed somehow wrong.
Still, Amber knew her power allowed her other and just as necessary roles and her mind lead her the idea of potentially becoming a spy. She could take on small and unassuming forms, after all, with senses that went far beyond human. She could enter places no full grown person could enter and had a sharp memory for remembrance. With that in mind, she began making some cover inquiries and was directed to find Lenna. It was to that purpose that she currently found herself wandering the halls of Sancuary, though so far her luck in finding the illusive woman had been limited.
Wandering, wandering, wandering. She'd been doing it for some time.
To be quite honest, he was fine with wandering; people wandered these halls all day. Some of them even tried to pull fire alarms, like that damned pyromancer kid. No, wandering didn't bug him at all, pun intended... It was that whole asking questions thing that drew his attention.
This particular wanderer was asking some serious questions... Still, his friends in the walls spoke of affiliations, and name dropping, which hinted her inquiries may not be out of malice. As if to confirm this idea, a small insect squirmed its way out of a crack in the wall, and chittered into his ear.
"Oh... A would be spy... Asking for Lenna, no doubt?" A click came in response. "No doubt the boss lady would only direct her toward me... But, my dear Jeffery we should see if she is worthy; I wouldn't want to waste mine and Lenna's time, now would I?" He chuckled to himself, and placed the small cockroach, Jeffery, against the wall, where he returned to his crack.
"I simply must make a performance of it... It shall be my finest one yet!" The giant cockroach let out a joyous squeal, and then slunk back into the shadows.
Moments later, a bug with a cigar in his mouth, and a ragged looking hat sat just around the bend of a corner, waiting for a certain someone to walk around; he'd been tracking her movement, and knew she was headed this way... He would be the first thing she saw as she rounded the sharp corner; he might even catch her by surprise.
For this particular act, he put on a greasy, back-alley Brooklyn accent, speaking up just as she appeared. "Moi oh moi... Wadda we gat here? A pale littol skart wokkin aroun' all on 'r lonesomeness? You- heh, -you lost?" As he spoke he stepped away from the wall, stretching his arm out to cut off most of the hallway; she would have to openly turn around and walk away if she wanted to go anywhere.

It was something of an exercise in frustration trying to find someone to help her. How did one keep such questions somewhat on the covert side while still getting across what she was looking for? She knew a few people who were safe to talk to openly, of course, but not enough and no one who seemed to know where Lenna was. Amber sighed to herself wondering if she should, perhaps, resume to search tomorrow. Or maybe finding Lenna was something of a test in and of itself.
Turning a corner, Amber was startled by the appearance of what could only be described as a giant insect-like humanoid. She jumped slightly, mentally berating herself for being taken by surprise. Shifted, of course, it never would have happened but in her weak human form with its inadequate human senses such was far too easy. She took a moment to slow her heart and compose herself before smiling at the very odd looking man and not just odd because he happened to be a giant insect. Were she not a long time resident of Sanctuary, such a sight might have actually disturbed her but even as strange as he looked, mutated individuals were nothing new.
When the roach man opened his mouth, the manner in which the words came out was even stranger, if that was possible. Still, it wasn't as if she were in any position to judge the strangeness of others; after all, she walked around covered in richly covered robes which wasn't exactly the usual style of dress in the area. Maybe one had to be a little eccentric to survive standing out as much as he did.
"I'm not lost," Amber answered, voice steady. She looked up, intending to meet the mutant's eyes with her own eerie black ones. Eye contact was something few were able to maintain with her. "I was looking for someone but she doesn't appear to be around."
My oh my, his little minions hadn't squeaked a peep about her eyes. How interesting... Like little black pearls... Or olives. My, was he suddenly hungry? Oh, it was such a shame he'd made a commitment not to eat any visible mutants anymore... He could very easily have made her disappear on her little quest to become a spy.
Uh oh... He was staring at her, wasn't he? All of that thought had left him standing awkwardly, staring into those black eyes with his own compound set. "Waow, dolly, Ain't you gotta seta' peepers... Eyes ain't so bad eatha'" He wanted to see what he would get away with, here; how far out of the normal person's comfort zone she was willing to step to avoid confrontation. Now, for the ultimate test; he reached the arm that wasn't leaning against the wall and cutting off her advance around to try and place it on the wall on the other side of her, effectively cutting off her retreat, and putting them in a very snug position.
"Weelll, I jus happen ta know a lautta people... Maybe I cud... eh... heh heh.. Give you a hand. You know... If you don' mind spendin a littl' time wit me." He leaned in just a little; he had to admit, his acting skills came in very handy, here... He had little desire for this soft skinned creature, though she did look like she would make a fair meal.

Amber didn't know what to make of this strange creature in front of her. It wasn't the bug-like appearance; that she could deal with. After all, most of her family were giant red monsters and she herself wasn't quite normal. She wasn't the type to faint at the sight of a spider or a roach either, that was for certain. After all, in the right form at the right time those very same creatures made for a rather satisfying meal. Still, the way he spoke and the way he acted threw her off balance.
Amber forced her expression to remain neutral and her eyes to remain squarely upon the eyes of the strange bug mutant. In truth, it wasn't that much of a challenge. In the games of dominance within the natural jungles it was imperative not to show fear and if she wasn't much of an actor otherwise, at least in this one aspect she could hold her own. If a faint hint of uncertainty passed across her expression, and perhaps it did although she'd never admit as much, then it was a fleeting hint only and she returned to her carefully fashioned look of neutrality. When the other one intentionally blocked her means of escape and leaned in to invade her personal space, she couldn't quite stop a faint growl from escaping her throat.
"Don't let appearances deceive. I admit when I need a little help, but don't think because you see a soft skinned human girl that I can't take care of myself. I won't be taken advantage of." Amber made no hostile moves towards the bug man but her left hand twitched slightly. If it came down to it, how much time would she have to shift if she needed to defend herself? Probably within Sancuary's walls it wouldn't' come to that. Probably.
True, it was clear she had her seams to tear at, and tear they did. A small wavering here, a twitch there, and a low growl when he moved the closest. They were all subtle signs, but she was doing a very good job not freaking out... for an amateur.
He stared at her a moment after her growling started, not moving closer, but not moving further away. One couldn't begin to tell what thoughts floated about his alien features; it gave him a natural shroud to hide behind, and he used it to his advantage. The giant bug did not back away from her, but something seemed to change in his mannerisms.
For one, he spoke in a neat, deep, almost philosophical tone. "A poker face is a good tool to have... But, my dear, it can be just as much a dead giveaway that you have no idea what you are doing. Where I you, I would have played into my advances until I lowered my guard, and then I would have escaped to a more public area; a crowd can provide just as much safety as the shadows, if not more, especially considering my actions were not the type this environment considers... kosher."
He leaned away from the wall, and then took a neat step back. "Tell me. Why do you wish to work for Lenna? What makes you think you are qualified?" That last question almost dripped with venom. He still hadn't explained where he fit in to all of this, but he wondered if he'd at least made her curious. He hadn't seen any evidence that she would be useful to him at all... She stood out in a crowd, and she was just a tad bit low on the experience side of things. Still, maybe she had a tool that would be useful to him... And no, the poker face didn't count.
