The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn didn't have an answer prepared. She was torn between curiosity, and apprehension. She'd seen what problems her powers could create, when the wrong person grew interested in them. The images of blood, the sounds of gunshot, her own scream of fear... those were things she would never be able to forget. All because of her powers. All because of her 'mutation'. Did she want to acknowledge that? Did she want to embrace it? Oh, that dark little corner of her, it was the only thing that truly terrified her. Because what if she was a monster; what if deep down, she was a murderer?
What would that mean?
Then, chaos erupted. Jensen leap forward, reaching to snatch her from the dangerous hold the stranger had on her arm. Coffee moved through the air, splashing in the handlers face and he cried out in surprise, reaching for his belt where his gun was holstered. But Evelyn was already getting dragged away. Rather than yanking backwards and trying to rush to Jensen, she found her legs unwillingly following Shade. She was pulling back, slightly, a glare still on her face, but she wasn't making it all too difficult for him to pull her along. [Body language searching for something. Powers are 'dark'. Seeking a darker location?] The question mark came from her own mind, mingling with her echoes. She was trying to piece it all together. But she was fairly certain when she did, it would already be too late. They would be gone.
Gone where?
"Evelyn!" Jensen yelled after them, and she turned back, colorless eyes looking for her handler as she stumbled, resisting in the last few steps. She couldn't leave him behind. This wasn't who she was. She gave a tug against the hold on her wrist, but they were already in front of the door to the bathroom, the darkness that close, danger filling her senses.
Chaos had indeed erupted. Shade dragged the woman along who appeared either willingly to come with the shadow mutant as they made their escape or she was in shock. Not really caring which at this point, the night stalker pushed a male patron out of the way as his eyes were locked on the white door. The door was only two steps away, and the safety of darkness only three when the woman's handler yelled her name.
> "Evelyn!"
That must have been the woman's name, because she suddenly halted, refusing to follow Shade's lead anymore. She tugged at his grasp, almost slipping out of his rough grip. Twisting her arm, he placed it behind her back while wrapping his arm around her neck, pulling her back against him. Now, facing Jensen, the shadow mutant faced the man an evil, but playful, grin, before backing through the door, the darkness swallowing them both.
As the door swung shut, that familiar feeling of icy darkness surrounding Shade, helping to calm his mind as he reached for a potential 'landing' spot. There was an alley out back. In the morning sun, the shadows casted by the surrounding skyscrapers provided the needed darkness. The experienced teleport ripped a wormhole open for a moment as the odd couple traveled out of this dimension, through another one, and back into this one in a second.
Like every time Shade 'jumped' between dimensions, the affects of reality were thrown for a loop for a brief moment. Having done this thousands of times, the shadow 'jumper' was used to the effect. His partners usually had a rough first time. Now, standing in the alley, Shade, invisible, loosened his grip slightly to allow the blond some room to maneuver in case she needed to hurl due to the nausea.
"Come on." Shade said roughly, dragging his captive down the alleyway. What the shadow mutant really needed was a vehicle. He did not want to 'jump' all the way back with a passenger.

Evelyn almost escaped the danger she trapped herself in. Her hand was moving from the strangers grasp, a feeling of relief starting to build. She was looking for a direction to run, eyes frantically flickering around the cafe. Faces stared back at her, each one filling her mind with their judgements. [Waitress, leaning forward, face showing concern. Younger male, protective stance in front of her. Sensing danger, trying to guard the object of his interest. Individuals in back corner of room, glances judgmental. Perhaps overheard discussion of 'mutants'. Association with group would be danger of own demise in their eyes. Handler, rushing forward, hand out trying to guide, unable to see well with liquid in face.] His eyes flickered open for a moment, and Evelyn met his gaze.
Those eyes were disappointed.
Disappointed in her.
Then she was yanked backwards, a hand across her neck and sharp pain moving through her shoulder. She flinched, stumbling as she was pulled into the darkness. She tried not to feel afraid. After all, she had been the one to create this danger, this pain. But she hated her mutation evermore for the image now burnt into her mind. [Distance too far to reach in time. Individual knows, and feels guilt and fear.] Well, that made two of them. She wondered if he could read the echoes on her own face. Perhaps, the soft arch of her eyebrows, the curve of her mouth, the glisten in her eyes would say enough in that moment that he would understand. I'm sorry. She willed the message to transfer, before darkness enclosed her.
Then... reality unraveled.
She was torn through the shadows; sights were sounds, noises were feelings, directions were useless and her echoes were silent: completely silent. There was nothing for them to use, to embrace, to tell her, and there was a small moment where she only felt the silence in her mind. Sweet silence. Somehow, the lack of sensation didn't frighten her; having that moment to herself was enough. As she stumbled into the alleyway, she felt the crushing weight of sadness it had lasted for such a short moment. She wished she could turn off the echoes again. But they were resounding along the alleyway, almost as uncomfortable as the returning force of the strangers pull on her. [Old brick masonry. Beginning to chip from wear. Traces of graffiti, starting to fade from weathering. Gang signs, no artistic tenancies. Left handed writer. Spelling errors. Garbage can, recently moved. Trash already picked up, lid dented and left open. Owner cares little of people sifting through trash. Muddy coating on ground, low traffic, no recent footprints or traces of movement evident. Rain let up, still sprinkling.]
"I'm coming." She said aloud, if nothing more than to silence the sounds in her head for a moment. She glared at her captor, but stumbled along, trying to decrease the painful tug he was giving her.
Surprisingly, Shade's mutant captive was coming along quite quietly, which was a blessing as the shadow mutant did not want to have to drag the blond all the way to the Sanctuay. Maybe there was a part of her that wanted to see this place where she was accepted with her mutation. As they passed through different shades of light and shadow, Shade's body would blink into sight then out of sight, but his grip remained firm on the blond's hand.
Approaching a small conpact car at the end of the street, the shadow mutant was materialized a dagger before smashing the driver's side window out. Reaching inside, Shade unlocked the door before pulled the truck release. Hearing the audible pop!, the Orderling led his kidnapped victim to the trunk. Opening the lid, Shade jabbed at the trunk with his thumb, motioning for Evelyn to get in.
"Would you be so kind?" Shade asked, his voice full of sarcastic kindness.
Evelyn tuned out the unnecessary echoes about brick masonry coming off the alley walls and instead focused her attention on the shadowy stranger in front of her. Her sharp gaze caught the way he appeared and disappeared in the daylight, making note of the pressure that stayed constant around her wrist regardless. He kept to the shadows, using the darkness like a shield, and when they reached the car, he was mostly an outline, his shadow knife more of a dark glimmer matterializing in his hand. Window smashed, trunk opened, Evelyn took one look at the space and stubbornly crossed her arms.
"Seriously? Are we in a bad mafia movie, you're going to put me in the trunk? A shadow mutant, driving a little car with his captive thrown in the back doesn't seem your style. Sort of conspicuous for someone who resorts to invisibility and darkness to do his dirty work. Good thing its overcast today. Your little blade might not work." Her colorless eyes stared at him with fearless defiance, and now that her echoes filled in the rest of the information about her powers, she looked a tiny bit smug. [Invisibility and teleportation only work in darkness. Relies on it for mutation. Light=weakness
The problem was it was dark today and there was a little sunlight to use to her advantage. She could challenge him further, run, resist, but that would likely have unforeseeable consequences. She really didn't want to get stabbed today. That would be rather unfortunate.
The blond mutant seemed less than pleased about her traveling arrangements to the Sanctuary. Of course, she did not know they were going to the Sanctuary, yet. However, Shade did not want any surprises from the woman before he made it back home. His captive had also seemed to have found her nerve again after having observed Shade's little invisibilty trick. And she was right. Traveling by vehicle was a horribly slow way to travel, almost as slow as walking, but the shadow man would suffer it for now. He did not want to have to 'jump' with a passenger all the way across town.
"You are right. I don't normally travel by car. However, it will be much safer for both of us if you ride in here." Shade replied, obviously a little irritated at the woman's resistance. Reaching down to his left ankle, the shadow mutant withdrew his black combat knife. "As for the daytime dagger problem, I always carry a spare. So in you go now."
The shadow mutant gestured for the blond to enter the trunk again. He would not ask a third time.

Evelyn's arms were crossed firmly but with almost an elegant fold across her chest; her posture was straight, her chin high, and her demeanor showed a sense of class under stress. While usually fairly calm and quiet, something about his behavior had insulted her, and she resented being treated this way. When he pulled out the combat knife though, she knew she was in over her head and slowly silenced the echoes the best she could. Her eyes went back to blue, and with a grumble, she climbed daintily into the trunk, and gave him one last glare.
Jensen is going to kill me... She thought for a fleeting moment, and closed her eyes, waiting until she heard the lid click shut and after a short moment, the car rumbled to life. With the trunk closed, it felt warm around her, and she kept her breathe calm and collected to save the oxygen she had. She wasn't sure where they were going, or how long it would take to get there, but she made herself as comfortable as possible, listening to the sounds outside, and letting her echoes fill her in along the way.
