The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was almost amusing to Quin how easily someone had managed to get into the Fusion center. In fact, it would have been downright amusing if it hadn't been so unsettling. The building was a little sacred among the NYPD and it had all the trappings of the kind of place you really couldn't just walk into.
Except someone had. With relative ease. Then they'd spent some serious quality time with the machines.
Sure, eventually someone had figured out that something was wrong, but by that point it was too late. The guy had walked out just as easily as he'd walked in. Shit was rolling down hill and hitting everything in its path. Rumors were flying. Unsurprisingly, nobody wanted to admit that the security breach had been their fault...it had to have been a mutant who'd slipped in so easily.
That's how the case had fallen into MRC's lap. Honestly, Quin didn't mind, because if they pulled it off, it'd be major brownie points for the division.
Unfortunately, this was much more boring than most of the other cases she and Ashton had worked. They were at the computers with the tech guys now, simply mulling over everything the intruder had accessed, and scouring the surveillance tapes, hoping to find something that everyone else had missed.
Quin glanced at the door. Hadn't Ashton said he was going to come back with coffee?

Going to get coffee wasn't a gender specific job. Men could do it, too. He wasn't some pig like some of the pigs he worked with. He was all for equal rights, and stuff like that, yeah. He could get coffee. He got coffee. That's what he did. And he got it with a smile, and a little sugar, and maybe some cream, if that's what people asked for. Although, when he brought it in, he gave severe looks to any of the tech guys that had chimed in with requests as he handed them their cups after handing a coffee to his partner.
Cups dispensed, Ashton to look at screens and data. "Well," He said expectantly. Hopefully, someone had something hiding in their throats that just wanted to burst out.

God, that coffee was good. Had they been working together that long? Long enough that he knew exactly how she liked her coffee.
Then again, maybe they'd just been sitting in this room so long that coffee of any kind seemed like a Godsend.
More coffee was handed out, and then Ashton spoke.
Well?
"Well, we're still looking through all the files he copied. I'm having tech make us a copy of everything so that hopefully we can figure out why he wanted what he wanted."
She took another sip of coffee...dear god it was good.
"And they said they should have the surveillance footage any time."
As if on cue, one of the guys at a computer spoke up. Quin shot Ashton a quick grin, "Coming?" she said, making her way to loom over the techie's shoulder. She watched for a few minutes, then gasped.

Techs, going through data. Checking files, to see what he wanted. That was good. They could follow the breadcrumbs. He was probably sloppy. Or wanted them to see whatever he'd found. More likely sloppy. More often, people were Han Solo levels of hacking. You know? Get asked soldier number, shoot computer? Yeah.
Ashton nodded at what she was saying, eyes passing casually over the tech guys as he did, mentally willing them to hurry it up... while at the same time, letting them know to do their jobs best they could. He didn't want them missing a thing.
One guy caught on to the 'fast train' message, and chimed in "Ready!" Ashton stepped up behind him, at Quin's side. He looked. Quin said something. He looked again. Different target, this time. He arched an eyebrow. "Quin?"

This was big....BIG.
Resisting the urge to pull her hair out and scream, Quin slowly straightened from the bent position she'd adopted to better seen the surveillance monitor. Ashton said her name, and Quin shook her head, still starting at the figure she'd recognized.
I should have arrested him. she thought.
This was her fault. Quin groaned and nodded towards the hallway. Techs were good at listening to things they weren't necessarily supposed to hear.
Once they were in the hallway, the redhead ran a hand through her hair, and avoided her partner's eyes.
"I know that guy. The one on the security monitor. I...I let him go last year..."

She... let him go. Several questions surged through Ashton's head as he stood there in the hallway. Who? when? What? Where? Why? How? And also, what pizza was on special tonight at his favorite little bar/diner? He sipped his coffee, and mulled them all over, deciding which one would be best to start in on.
He settled for the all-encompassing "Yeah?" and let her fill in the blanks.

"There was an attempted kidnapping. That guy broke it up. Shot the guy." Quin shook her head, "I let him go. Granted, I wasn't in a great place to really bring him in, but I didn't try very hard to find him after the fact."
She took a deep breath and shoved her hands into the pockets of her pants suit.
"Now he's breaking in here. Stealing information. He's some kind of Texas Justice vigilante."

So, a vigilante. And he hadn't been very well discouraged.
"Well," Ashton broke his single-word streak like a bird shattering a shell against a rock. "This time, we can do something about it."
Whoever this Texan was, he sucked at covering his tracks, which made the fact that he'd gotten in and out of the place without getting caught all the more annoying. The guy probably wanted them to connect the dots.
"C'mon. Let's figure out what he was looking at, so we can figure out what he wanted us to see."

Oh, thank you Ashton.
Quin felt the tension that had already been building up between her shoulders release. Why had she thought that he would react badly? Ashton always had her back, and he always had an answer. In Quin's mind, it didn't excuse what she'd done, but now she could move on. Now she could work.
They'd figure it out. Together.
It was time to get back to the drawing board. They needed to know what the guy had been trying to do. He wouldn't have taken this kind of risk if he hadn't needed what he came for.
"You're right, this guy doesn't do things to spit in the face of the law...he wouldn't come in here just because he could."
They just needed to get back inside, and figure out what he was looking for.

Time passed. The techies sorted through data access logs. On television, these things happen quickly. Television isn't like real life. If it was, it'd suck.
Finally, the techs decided they'd gleaned all they could from the data that they could. Him and Quin had figured the information hadn't been accessed at random. They'd been right. The techs passed off what they'd found to the MRC duo on a flash drive. They hadn't been sure what to make of it, and it was too much to print off. That meant it was too much to spout by word of mouth. They left the detectives to figure out what all the information meant.
Ashton's cup, long abandoned, lay on its side in the trash next to Quin's. Another fresher one lay on top of it. Another joined it in a sailing arc. It was going to be a long night.
