The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jacob gave no physical response to the statement of the fact that she was the sister of Aura. It was interesting… how could Aura not know her original name if she was living with her sister? This led him to several more questions that he would need answered to properly help the mutant soldier, but now was not the time… not yet. He would open up with a more subtle question instead, but only after he began his ‘fun’. “Treated me well? We actually see eye to eye on a lot of points, but she is a very powerful soldier that is in dire need of true guidance. I hope she will take me up on my offer to teach her the true art of combat rather than her simply using her abilities rampantly. She has a lot of potential, that one.”
The moment that she said that she was alright with surprises, the cars engine roared to life like Zeus himself was under the hood, and the car sped forward as the custom tires gripped the asphalt, accelerating extremely quickly. He expertly controlled his car, and the now fixed vehicle that was being remote controlled followed, struggling to keep up with the car that, in comparison, could have been the Hulk compared to a twelve year old girl. The car blazed through a red light expertly weaving through the traffic flowing in all directions, and with the precision of a scalpel in the hands of a master surgeon, both his own vehicle and hers were sliding through the streets without a scratch.
In the midst of this, Jacob seemed to change absolutely none, aside the ‘I’m the smoking $#!& and I know it’ grin on his face. “So, did you lose your memory as well? Aura doesn’t even remember her original name.” It was a break into the subject he wanted to discuss, and although his voice was elevated, it was only to be heard over the roar of the engine as they swarmed through honking horns and sped through the traffic that plagued the city like a bat out of hell. It was clear that Jacob was having ENTIRELY too much fun right now.
It was interesting to hear that someone viewed things the same way as her rather violently inclined sister. Amber couldn't help but wonder which exact points those might be that were agreed upon and how much her sister had actually mentioned. "What do you mean by true combat?" It sounded like something useful for one such as she who had limited ability to defend herself while not shifted.
Once the car roared to life, Amber had little time to concern herself with such pursuits as the ins and outs of true combat and political ideals. She felt a little thrill of terror go through her as the car began weaving in and out of traffic and, for a moment, she was fearful that the kind man was about to get them killed. His skill, however, was undeniable and after that initial moment of fear, she broke into a wide grin. This was the sort of fun she could get used to, at least in small doses. "I can see why you asked if I was ok with surprised," Amber stated with a laugh. Such simple joy was something she didn't get to experience often.
“So, did you lose your memory as well? Aura doesn’t even remember her original name.”
"Not at all," Amber answered. True her time spent in the rain forests of South America trapped in her deinonychus form weren't all that clear in her memories but that wasn't something she wanted to talk about nor did it come close in comparison to her sister's loss of memories. After all, it was only a span of a year and if the memories were hazy and spotty, they still existed. "Aura is my sister by adoption. Abyss adopted us both so we became family later in life. Pack is important, whether or not through blood."
Jacob hadn’t missed her little question on what true combat was, and it sounded like there was another lesson in order. Whomever this Abyss character was, and Lord did Jacob have enough with all the cursed code-names, they were obviously not giving these young women guidance. Or perhaps he himself didn’t know… which could easily be of no fault of his own, but even the most simplistic of people knew that letting their daughter wander around killing random people was not really the best idea. Still, he was thankful for the fact that they had all found each other, as family was one of the most important things in the world, blood or not.
They drifted around a corner, narrowly missing a Semi-truck, and the tires smoking soundly and he screeched around the tight curve. It wasn’t much further to the Sanctuary, but there was probably still time to talk a bit. If she was anything like her sister, she would stay and talk long after he placed the Impala in park outside their home. “Family is very important, blood or no. I’m glad you found each other.” He paused a moment, the engine revving as they increased speed on a straightaway.
“Aura doesn’t have a direction for her combat. She simply strikes where she can when she can, regardless of either the consequences or pointlessness of it. She needs to learn to use her abilities not to lash out randomly, but selectively at those who matter, mainly meaning those who would hurt her or her family.” He paused a moment more, sliding between four cars in an intersection with scant inches to spare on all sides without so much as missing a beat. “She could also put her abilities to work in constructive ways, rather than destructive, if she put her mind to it, and make an honest living while still retaining who she is as a person.”
Being a passenger in Jacob's vehicle was almost as thrilling as gliding from branch to branch as a prehistoric gliding lizard, Amber decided, and probably more terrifying. It was an exciting sort of terror though, one that cause her heart to race within her chest. There was no denying his skill on the road and, time and again, just when it looked like he couldn't' possibly make it through safely, somehow he did.
"I don't know what I'd do without my family," Amber answered simply, looking down to her lap for a moment. "They've become the things that keeps me grounded." More than that, they kept her sane as well or at least as sane as one could be when your father and 6 uncles were clones who could move mountains and your sister was a mass murderer. Still, it was a world better than being a friendless and abandoned foster child.
"I'm not really like my sister but I think I agree with you. Aura is good at what she does but sometimes..." Amber shook her head. She could accept her sister's tendencies better now that she understood life and death through the eyes of a predator, but there were still things that didn't compute. Food was one thing, but how did one take actual joy in such things? "I don't think either of us know much about being constructive in society, but helping mutants is important. One day, hopefully soon, I hope to make my presence properly felt and help my people."
Jacob decided to finish on a strong note, punched the brake for a moment, then punched the gas, twisting the steering wheel to where they were going sideways. They drifted towards the curb next to the Sanctuary, and they came to a stop mere inches from the edge of the sidewalk, with her door facing the Sanctuary. On cue, the trail car, not trying any drifting with a vehicle that was not his own, weaved through a bit of traffic and slowed to a stop next to them. They had arrived, but Jacob made no attempt to end the conversation there… it had just gotten interesting.
“I know a dozen jobs at my shop she could do that would save me money and give her a good outlet for her energy, but she isn’t at that point yet. She wants to fight, but because she doesn’t have a proper enemy, she is just lashing out randomly. The first step is to get her to focus and harness that potential a little bit, reel in the random killing and only hurt those who would do her, or those she cares about, harm. Once I get her to that point, if she lets me, I will work on getting her into society safely. The fact that she doesn’t know her own name may actually help… I can see what I can do about getting her a new identity and it won’t even be covering anything else up. The problem lies in the fact of whether or not she will take that first step and talk with me again though.”
He then wanted to touch on one more subject. “I have a solution for all these problems too… but I don’t have the funds or resources to make it happen.” He let that sink in for a moment, and then followed it up. “We need to go out and claim a plot of land somewhere. Maybe some string of islands that isn’t inhabited yet, and make it a place for anyone who wants to. Our own little country somewhere. But that’s just my opinion.” And he would leave it at that.
When the vehicle finally arrived at the steps of Sanctuary, Amber couldn't quite decide if she was disappointed that the ride wouldn't last any longer or relieved that she had arrived in one piece. Perhaps it was a little bit of both. Maybe one day she'd have the opportunity to ride with Jacob again. Then again, maybe she didn't want too. Tempting fate didn't seem like the best thing to do a second time but was it really tempting fate if there was such obvious skill involved? Questions for another day.
As Jacob continued to talk, Amber realized that he had a lot of intelligent things to say that were similar to her own views. Lashing out randomly was exactly what she didn't want to do and exactly why some of her sister's actions bothered her so much. "I don't know everything about Aura's past but, if I can, I would like to help. Sometimes I have my own struggles, being what I am, but I at least know more of what its like to function in society even if that society doesn't always want me. Perhaps helping her might even help me." It was a struggle, sometimes, to balance the predator with the human and maybe helping another adapt to human society might help with her own internal balance.
"Funds we have here," Amber replied with a smile. "I'm not sure if we've got enough for our own island, but I don't know if that's a viable long term solution either. If humans have so much issue with the mutants living among them in their cities, what would stop them from prosecuting and attacking a mutant nation?"
