The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> "Well... first, I plan on keeping on with this name. It's the name the students know me as, and for all intents and purposes, it's my name now."
Gemma nodded. That was a sign of trying to start fresh. She preferred if he stayed what the students knew. It cut down on explanations. She made amental note to talk to him about how he was going to handle this with the students. They always asked questions.
>>"Among the classes taught here, we offer the kids combat. Obviously a reason is self-defense, but then there's the other reason: the X-Men. Being able to fight is important, but so is talking a way out of trouble. Or sneak out of trouble. Or knowing the X-Men... Sneaking into it. I want to teach a class-- a new one. Not sure of the course title yet, but I've been mulling around 'Subtlety and Subterfuge.'"
Gemma tilted her head. On the one hand she was not sure having a conman teach the X-kids about lying and cheating was a good idea... on the other hand if it cut down on the full-on combat, she was all for it. The idea of kids fighting always made her feel bad.
>>"And... I almost hate to say this, but that isn't the most daring request I've come up with... There's one other thing..."
Gemma was surprisingly receptive. Nate was up to at least three outlandish confessions and propositions, and she had yet to shut him down completely. He had one last idea to propose before finding out if she would let him bat a thousand on the day.
"I am happy with the chance I've had at improving the lives of the mutant kids at the school, but given the advent of my new mutation manifestation, I think I can do more on a greater scale." Being able to turn into invulnerable shadowmass was rather handy in a pinch.
"I want to join the X-Men. Or try-out, or whatever the protocol might be." The steps were still rather vague. "To be honest, I don't exactly know the people involved or the proper channels, but I figured you'd be in the know to some degree." Gemma was high on the food chain in all Mansion affairs, so it stood to reason that she would at least know those involved with X-Initiation.

The nerve on him.
Gemma arched an eyebrow. No wonder the guy had been a con man. She had always heard that lies work best if you think big - and apparently the truth was the same. Nathan was thinking big. As in, uniformed mutant vigilante group big.
"Well." she kept herself from chuckling at the requests he had piled up two minutes after he confessed something that would get a teacher fired from any school. Then again, the Mansion was not any school.
"That is quite the lineup of plans you have there, Nate" she sighed "I wish it was that easy. I know you are a good guy and you mean well, so I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt."
She paused.
"On the other hand, this is still a school, and I am responsible for everyone in here. I can't just handwave your past and let you go along without looking into the matter. I will have to talk to the other leaders here about it. Including the X-men."
She reached for a cup and sipped some coffee, thinking it over. Sometimes tricky situations needed tricky solutions.
"I personally think your ideas are good, and they have a chance of being useful to the school, but I can't make that decision alone. So here my proposal for you, Mr. Holloway: You will temporarily be suspended as a teacher while we look into your credentials. In the meantime, if they agree, you will be teaching an experimental course to the members of the X-team so they can assess the use of your curriculum, and your person as a possible candidate. I cannot guarantee you anything past that. But it is a chance, it you are willing to take it."
