The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Carrick laughed at her what Carrick could assume was an accusation about either he stealing for her or her getting ‘pinched’ by him either way it wasn’t going to happen. After looking into her bag Carrick determined she needed it more than he did money was one thing but Carrick hasn’t stole food from anyone in a long time and he didn’t plan on it now and as far as him pinching her? ”Not one to pinch ya, Liz would kill me.” Carrick said with a smirk not really paying much mind to that he mentioned Liz to Tses.
”If I failed my ‘flying’ exam you think I’d still be flying? Gravity and I have an understanding.” Carrick smiled and then lowered himself to the ground walking towards her as she looped her groceries onto her arm. ”Not a fan of hospitals meself, they don’t like the fact that I don’t like the fact that they think they can try and keep me in one spot for a long period of time.” Carrick paused and then nodded his head in agreement with Tses, ”Eejits.” not all doctors were eejits Carrick had started to like Doc and his personality but still the winged thief hated being told where he could or couldn’t go and what he had to do.
Carrick didn’t give Doc much more thought, his mind shifted back to Tses and he continued on with their conversation, ”Now all you have to do is tell me where to go, I’ll do the rest.” Carrick said his wings springing open again. ”Won’t pinch, promise.” Carrick said smirking slightly and holding out his arms waiting for Tses to figure out how she think it would be best to be carried. Something Carrick hated was shifting his passenger mid flight it made him and his co-pilot uncomfortable. ”Might I suggest a cradle?” Carrick asked keeping his arms in their familiar positions.
Tses raised an eyebrow at his response to her comment, and as she thought over what she'd said she realized the slang word could be taken two ways. Inwardly, she face palmed a bit. This was what happened when people with different dialects talked together. Well, it didn't matter much. She would smack him if he tried either form of the word. And she doubted he'd get away with snagging any of her food anyway. Stealing from a thief was pretty difficult.
She almost laughed out loud, and smirked when he said 'Liz' would kill him, and raised an eyebrow. She didn't mention it for now, and as he reassured her his flying abilities, she made sure the rest of her bags were clearly sealed. "If you head towards city center, there's Al's grocery store. There is an apartment building about a block over form that and the bottom part of the fire escape is silver, but the rungs closest to the roof are red. Easiest way to spot it I think. If you just drop me off there I can make it the rest of the way." She said. For a second she lost a bit of her composure as he asked how he should carry her. It made the situation that much more awkward for her.
"Whatever you think is best, I guess. Just don't drop me." She said with a smirk. She tried to prepare herself for the trip, but figured one way or another she'd still be driven into slight terror by the ride. "You sure Liz will be ok with you giving me a ride?" She added in, a small twinkle in her eye as she said it.
Carrick stared at her for a second as his face lit up like a red Christmas tree light before responding quickly to change the subject. Instead of saying anything he jumped and then scooped up Tses quickly before she could say anything else about Liz causing further awkwardness from Carrick he didn’t like to be tongue-tied and he liked his face red even less. He liked being the center of attention only when he was in control and anything with Liz he doubt he was control at all. 'Da was right girls are hard to understand.' thought Carrick every time Liz got him a little flustered.
”I’ll pretend you didn’t say that and I won’t drop you. Sound fair?” Carrick asked laughing, flapping his wings harder as they ascended higher into the air. She wasn’t much heavier than Liz or anyone else he normally flew with so for the most part he assumed it would be an uneventful flight.
Once they were over the trees Carrick shifted his weight and forced them forward over the tree line causing a sea of green below. ”Remember how I told ya it was cold up here? Am I wrong?” the shifter asked as he pushed them higher and forward till the trees looked smaller and the people looked like large ants or small, small people he never knew how to describe them, they were small.
Going in the direction she directed Carrick shifted his eyes towards Tses in his arms, ”So first time flyer?”
Tses expected another smart ass comment, but the sudden flight off the ground took her completely off guard. The air left her lungs, and the cold seemed to shoot straight to her bones. While she usually acted pretty confident as far as heights were involved, this breathed a different sort of fear in her brain she couldn't quite suppress. Trees and other objects rushed past, and when they leveled out, she felt her breath return with a rather shaky gasp. She felt herself trying to glare at Carrick, but it didn't work so well now that they were in the air.
"I get it. Don't talk about your girl." She muttered, and felt herself unwillingly glancing down. The city looked so different from up here, and cars seemed to move in slow motion on the streets below. It looked like a tiny Christmas village she saw in store displays. But she knew if she were to fall, it would lack the cheery childish charm those displays had. Her heart skipped a beat and she felt a little queasy for a moment as she did. She shut her eyes and tried to think happy thoughts.
"Oh, I don't know. A little drink with an umbrella, some sunglasses. I could get used to the pleasant warmth." She responded, even though her skin was clearly ice cold. She shook her head, and tried to compose herself but it was difficult given the circumstances. "and no.... I've never flown anywhere, but I suppose there is a first for everything..."
You can always tell what kind of girl you had in your arms by the way they handle a surprise take off with little warning. Most girls would scream and shriek, or would make some kind loud enough noise so Carrick would continue to consider getting earplugs. Tses however barley made a sound above the wind suddenly rushing at their ears, it was clear she wasn’t like most girls. ‘Boyish gal’ thought Carrick as they made there way in the air and he noticed several more things like the way she shook every now and then or her tightening around his neck either because she was scared and didn’t want to say anything or because she was cold and didn’t want to say anything either way she didn’t mention as to why she was shaking every now and then.
Deciding against a barrel roll this early on Carrick smirked and shook his head when she finally said something, ”Sarcasm noted Tses,” Carrick said determining she was more cold than scared at this point. ”Well, I’m glad I could be apart of this magical moment for you.” Carrick said in his mocking tone as they continued higher into the air once again.
After they were a suitable height one that made even the busses and trucks look small Carrick cleared his throat, ”If you feel like you’re gonna puke or somethin’ like that let me know and I’ll do me best to getcha somewhere solid alright?” Carrick said hoping despite his mocking tone she could hear some sincerity in his voice. The last thing he wanted was to be covered in vomit he so far had a perfect pukeless flying record even with the occasional close call.
Being careful not to go anywhere near her wound Carrick adjusted his hand under her legs making sure it was a steady grip. ”You know the mansion does have healers. Doc does wonders if ya want, wouldn’t be a far trip.” Carrick paused and added, ”Unless you want to rough it on your own, seem like a tough one so far.” Shifting his wings a little more they started to glide in the air in the general direction of Tses’s building. He wasn’t in a hurry not yet at least it was here first time flying after all she might as well enjoy the view.
”Oh and I’d keep your eyes open if I were you. Not a whole lot can say they have seen the new york skyline like this.” Carrick said flying close to a tall building one that was covered in highly reflective glass making a mirror image of the two glide by the pairs side.
Tses let out a laugh snort and stuck her tongue out at the boy. "I'm not going to hurl. You don't have to worry about that." She replied, but she did catch the edge to his comment that seemed to actually be concerned. Ok, so even a joker had a nice side. That was reassuring. Especially since she tended to be a jerk sometime, and she always wondered if people could hear the undertones to the things that were said. If she could hear it, maybe someone else could too.
She tried to distract herself from the flying by focusing on the conversation, but the random drops and rises from the flight were making her stomach flip flop. She listened as he mentioned the mansion healer, but felt herself shaking her head. "I'm actually pretty fine just roughing it out... I've had enough of doctors for a lifetime." She remarked, and resisted a shudder at the memory from the last experience.
"Not to be rude..." She added, and made a little face. "I can barely handle getting help getting home...Kinda a pride killer." She muttered, and shrugged her shoulders.
Even though she was slightly frightened by being this high above the air, Tses had to admit, she liked the view, so she let herself take his advice and keep her eyes open. The city had a sort of sparkle from the cold weather frost that clung to the buildings, and it was rather pretty. "It's a pretty amazing view, I won't lie. I do a lot of rooftop walking, but this is even better. Worth the little jumps in my stomach...." She tried to pinpoint where her house was in the vast expanse of the city, and glanced out, noting the statue of liberty, the empire state building and other landmarks she could see in the cityscape. It was odd seeing things from up here. Things that looked so tall on foot were suddenly just specks in the distance.
Carrick made note that she was one to be motivated by pride in Carrick’s opinion pride was a rather stupid thing to have at times. She was injured and refused t get help because of pride? Now that he thought about it he had a tendency to be too proud as well. Like when someone questions his abilities in aquiring a large sum of cash in a short amount of time or something of the like. Carrick smirked and then added, ”Better a pride killer than just a kill. But I understand don’t like taking handouts. I get it.”
Trying hard not to laugh hard Carrick started to chuckle a bit, ”Please, these, ‘jumps’ as you call them are nothing, I can do a lot more than this.” Carrick said pulling Tses in closer to his body followed by rolling his entire body over in a barrel roll. ”I don’t think your up for the big kid stuff but maybe you will be one day.” Carrick said trying to push her ‘pride’ button hoping she’d as for a lot more than just a fly home and just a barrel roll.
Tses was someone who was rather hard to surprise, but Carrick managed to startle her. The barrel roll made her stomach leap to her throat, and her brain felt a bit scrambled for a second. She let out a tiny yelp of surprise, that nearly bordered on a scream, and clenched her teeth until they leveled out. She slowly turned to Carrick and glared at him, and exhaled a puff of air to get her hair out of her face. She adjusted her bags, glad she didn't loose any food, and was about to tell him off. Then he made a quip at her, and she felt her eyes narrow.
"Hey, I can handle a lot more than your little barrel roll! You just startled me..." She accused, and the wind made it impossible to really keep her hair from her face. After one last attempt to push it behind her ears, she just let it flop and tightened her grip on her bags. She was slightly annoyed that he had already figured out how to pick on her pride to get her to agree to things, but she was also a little impressed.
"You're a punk, you know that?" She said, and stuck her tongue out at the 'kid'. At least, that was her opinion of him. She wasn't positive what his age was, but he had a habit of pushing her buttons, and it reminded her of what a younger brother would do. Not that she'd had one, but she could imagine if she had, it would have ended up like Carrick.
Carrick’s lip twisted up in a grin when Tses stuck her tongue out at him. ”Not the first time been called a punk, won’t be the last will it?” Carrick said doubting very much it was the last time he heard it. Punk was one of the better names he had been called in the past but it didn’t faze Carrick too much. Carrick kept his eyes forward and kept flapping his wings speeding up slightly causing more wind to buffer them as the buildings passed by faster.
”You can say you can handle more?” Carrick asked turning his wings and body into a nosedive. Tucking his wings too his back Carrick started to laugh yelling, ”Best hold on to your snacks then!” as the wind rushed around them as gravity continued to speed up their fall. After a second passed Carrick asked, ”Still think you can handle it?”
Carrick tensed his legs and tail then opened his wings suddenly feeling a large pull downward as their fall was suddenly stopped. Carrick’s arms were sore now and with the additional weight and the wind his wings were starting to feel it as well but luckily Carrick stopped the nose dive before they were too close to the ground. Still above the residential building complexes Carrick did another barrel roll then shortly after a loop.
Once he leveled out again Carrick smirked and tilted his head slightly towards the blonde in his arms, ”Hope that wasn’t too bad? Be lucky you didn’t meet Gryphon… he would have made it way worse.” Carrick said laughing to himself seeing as she had no idea who his Gryphon was. ”That your place?” Carrick asked pointing to a building with a red door for roof access.
Tses shortly regretted egging Carrick on, especially when the ground started to get very close, very fast. The sensation was one almost impossible to describe; it was like every organ in her body suddenly jumped a few feet, turned in circles and then settled in their new location to quiver in terror. She would have screamed, but the air had mysteriously vanished from her lungs, so instead she clung to her groceries with white knuckles. As Carrick laughed, she wanted to smack him, but then again, she had asked for it. After another terrible roll, and a loop, she slowly blinked, most likely looking like a very unfortunate cat who got caught outside in a storm. As she slowly relaxed, she chuckled though, and gave him a slow look that bordered on a glare.
"That... was something different. I may have to assess if it was awful or not when I find where mys stomach is hiding."[/color] She sighed, and shifted her fingers so she was no longer clinging to plastic bags for dear life. "And I don't know who Gryphon is, but if his flying is worst than yours, I may be glad I haven't met him. I think this beginner's run was enough for me." While she spoke, she tried to mentally count her heart rate, and it seemed to twitter unhappily against her neck and wrists. She knew she would be a bit more cautious who she teased from now on, especially when they were carrying her so far above the ground.
The sight of her apartment building was welcome, and Tses nodded as they approached. "Yeah, that's it. Nothing super special, but it's a roof over my head and that's good enough."
”Better, far better.” Carrick said correcting Tses about Gryphon’s flying. Carrick wasn’t only bigger and faster in his shifted form but he was also stronger, and had more seating room something that anyone who had flown with both Carrick’s would appreciate. ”You’d like him, have to feed him but Gryphon is a good boy. He is better with first time flyers as well.” Carrick said not giving Tses any indication that he and Gryphon were one and the same.
Gliding towards Tses’s apartment Carrick continued to smile till he touched down and retracted his wings to his back. ”Well, guess this is your stop. Can you get to your place from here?” Carrick asked wondering if the roof access door was unlocked or if she couldn’t walk so well do to her wound.
Carrick was short to begin with so he didn’t need to lower his body much to set Tses’s feet down first before he finally let go of her, ”Really nice meeting you Tses. If the leg gets any worse though you should come to the mansion and have Doc heal you… be in and out seconds tops.” Carrick shrugged and then added, ”Free meal too, be sure to stop and see me if you do come by.”
The golden brown wings opened again and flapped a few times lifting the boy off the ground, ”I’ll see you around hopefully.” Carrick said grinning and waving to her before his wings took him higher into the air before he decided it was time he himself headed home.
Tses listened to the kids description of Gryphon, and shrugged her shoulders. He seemed ok, if a bit vague, but that was pretty common when talking about mutants. Sometimes, it was better to learn for yourself. Like flying. she doubted she would try it again... at least for awhile.
After they landed, she nodded her head to the last question. "Yeah, locks don't bother me, not that they bother with them in this place." She said, once more in that 'probably saying too much' type way she seemed to manage. Tses seemed to have a way of talking first, regretting it later. If she did regret it in the end, which didn't seem to happen too much. Most of the time, she just trampled through life and occasionally looked back to go "huh, there was a path there I could have used".
"Nice to meet you too. And maybe eventually I'll swing by. Who knows. I know a kid that lives there I should say hi to someday." Tses admitted, and gave a shrug. She grinned at the food comment, slightly crooked and full of snarkiness. Ok, so the kid wasn't too bad, and she liked the banter. It may not kill her to swing by and say hi sometimes, if nothing more than to tease him about his 'girlfriend. As he left she gave a little wave, then wandered inside the building, using her powers as a 'key'. Legs still hurting, but feeling a bit more lighthearted, she wandered to her apartment and finally got to set down her dumb groceries.
