The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hunter was impressed by Paragon's bluff, and saw the men's resolve waver. When she rolled up his sleeve there was a massive bruise as well as a cut where the force of the blow had torne the skin open. The pain prevented him from having any instant reply to Paragon.
He made sure to keep the injury out of sight of the others, using his body and Paragon's to shield it from their sight. "No acting," he said, smiling but still clentching his teeth. He had half a mind to turn around and rip the man's head off, but that would blow their cover more than Paragon's actions had.

Iris didn't need to fake her surprise upon seeing the injury.
"No acting," he answered, obviously in pain.
"You're not?"
She wasn't sure how to reply to that. He had healing abilities, didn't he? She tentatively touched the wound. Her fingers came away wet. She could sense the blood was real, not just red liquid. Was he able to switch the healing on and off?
A gutteral scream, and a cheer of triumph startled her. Another of the mutants had lost their fight. A second wave of nausea hit Iris. She looked up at the bat wielder, and scowled again.
"Nice work, Hothead. He may be out of commission now. Give me that!" She stood up and walked over to him, and yanked the black bandana off of his head. "Idiot! Go make yourself useful over there." She waved her head in the direction of the massacre. The man slunk away, apparently satisfied enough for the time being.
Iris turned back to Hunter. She tried to block out the scene surrounding them, but had paled noticeably and her eyes glazed over. She held her hand over the wound, attempting to keep the blood from flowing out until it coagullated enough to began to scab.
"I can," Hunter replied through gritted teeth, "but not from injuries inflicted by wood." Hunter was in much more pain than he was letting on. Any more force in the blow and Hunter's arm would have broken. The blood flow was slowly stemming, slower than normal, even for a human.
Hunter looked Paragon in the eye and smiled. "Not even I'm invincible," he said, "Everyone has their weakness." He quickly scanned the crowd. The sight of injured people pulling back and being tended to by friends was common enough that they were no longer attracting attention.

"Wood?" Iris snorted. "You really are a vampire...."
"Not even I'm invincible. Everyone has their weakness."
"You could've fooled me."
She turned the bandana inside out, then began to wrap up the wound. Concentrating on the injury helped her block out the commotion around them. However anytime one of the mutants were caught and killed, she wavered. Her eyes shone with tears she manipulated to keep from falling. Finally she shut her eyes.
"I can't stay here. C'mon." She moved to get to her feet, and to help him up as well, to move the far wall, away from the main fighting.
Hunter didn't argue. He could see the tears in her eyes, and wouldn't keep her here any long than necessary. With him no actually injured they had a legitimate reason to leave. Reaching the far wall he sat down with his back to it.
"It'll all be over soon," he promised Paragon, "And once it is you can go back to your life. I'll keep out of it, if that's what you want." He meant it. Having gotten to know Paragon it was clear that she was her own person, she had the right to choose whether or not he could be a part of her life.

Iris didn't reply. There was too much going at the moment; it seemed that anytime she said something when under stress, she usually regretted it later.
Of the eleven mutants, only the three in the rafters were left; the older wind elemental, and two children, the ink-maker girl and a boy. He hadn't used his mutation yet, at least not that Iris could tell. From where she stood, he looked normal. Part of the crowd had begun to scatter, looking for ladders or other ways of reaching their prey. Realizing that they were on their own now, the older woman looked around. She spotted a skylight in the roof and sent a gust of wind into it. Whatever the window was made of was shatterproof, but it worked on hinges, and blew open with a loud BANG!!
"The roof! Get to the roof! Cut them off!" The rioters' noise took on a frantic level as their prey lifted off of the rafters, and up out of sight. Half of the crowd rushed outside, while others tried to make their way to the catwalk from inside. There were a number of others injured left inside, besides Hunter.
"Hey Katie, Darren. You two okay?" Duane and Nell came over to the pair.
"He's hurt," Iris motioned to Hunter's arm.
"Oh man, how bad??" Nell placed a hand on Iris's shoulder. She turned slightly, and saw red on Nell's hands. She could sense that the blood wasn't hers. She gulped and turned away. Nell frowned. "Katie? You don't look too good either."
"Sorry. Weak stomach...."
Nell nodded sagely. "Yeah, I hear you. I did too. I actually fainted during my first Cleansing."
"Hey I remember that." Duane smirked, then winced as she hit his arm. She turned back to Iris.
"Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Just think of it as setting a mouse trap that's a bit messy. You just gotta clean up the mess afterward, but its worth it to get rid of the rats."
"Yeah, just part of the job. Speaking of which, come on Nell, we don't wanna miss it! Take it easy Darren! Feel better Katie!" Duane pulled his girlfriend away and out the door.
Hunter offered Duane and Nell a weak smile before the pair headed off. "Come on," he said to Paragon rising to his feet, "let's go home." It was clear that Paragon had had more than her fill of the place. His injury would give them a legitimate reason to leave, and Hunter was willing to use it to get Paragon out.
The wearhouse was largely deserted now, with everyone having headed for the roof. Only the injured or shaken were scattered about. Hunter would talk to the other Hierophants another time, right now he just wanted to get Paragon home.

"Come on. Let's go home."
Iris nodded, and made like she was helping him to the car, parked several blocks away. The faster they could leave, the better.
When they reached the vehicle, she deactivated her gem. She took a deep breath and shuddered.
"I'm done," she whispered quietly. "I don't care what you tell them; I'm sick, tired, whatever. I don't even care if you tell them you found out I was a mutant. I'm not going near those people again. I'm sorry, but.... you're on your own from now on."
She glanced up at him. For once her eyes weren't filled with anger, bitterness or any other negative emotion. She was just tired, pure and simple, of everything. "I'm sorry if that disappoints you."
Then she climbed into the driver's side, waiting for him to get in.
"I understand," Hunter answered, "And I don't blame you. I've seen what you have gone through. You can stay at the apartment or return to the labs. If you really want you can go back onto the streets of New York and try to blend in. I'll have some people keep an eye on you, make sure you're safe."
He was more determined than ever to finish this. As soon as his arm had sufficiently healed he would destroy the council, and bring the Church of Humanity to its knees.

She remained silent, and continued such the entire way back. Once they got back to the apartment, she motioned toward his arm.
"Let's get that bandaged up properly. For show if nothing else." She detoured into the hallway bathroom to gather the first aid kit and peroxide. Idly her eye landed on the plunger next to the toilet. It was made of plastic.
She shook her head and returned to the living room. "Never noticed the lack of wood in the house," she stated blandly. Even the knife handles, were forged metal, not even faux wood. "No wonder you're so paranoid, with a little thing like that. Can't imagine being scared of splinters...."
"Why do you think that so many vampire legends have them killed with a wooden stake?" Hunter asked with a smile, "Because it's the only way to kill me. You can't imagine being scared of splinters, but I can't imagine being worried about steel."
Hunter held his arm out so Paragon could tend to the wound. The one good thing that seemed to have come from this was that the two of them were closer. They still weren't bonded like a true father and daughter, but they were getting their, slowly but surely.

"Hmm. I'll remember that...." She let the mock threat hang, too exhausted to put any effort into actually feeling the part.
She was surprised to see that the wound was still bleeding, though not as badly. She cleaned it up easily, then bandaged it, using more guaze than necessary for the sake of anyone else who noticed. Finally, she pushed everything aside, and leaned on the kitchen counter, totally spent.
"Well, I guess it's kinda nice to know you're not totally invulnerable. Though I'm surprised you've live this long, with as supersticous as people are."
"I've had some close calls over the centuries," Hunter admitted, "But I've gotten pretty good and convincing people I'm not a vampire. In fact, I can convince people that I'm nothing but a average human with little effort."
"Thank you for binding the wound," he said. She'd done a god job, and with it bound up he'd regain full function of his arm inside a week. "I'm going to tell the Church that you're sick and I'm injured, so they wont see either of us for a week." And after that he'd finish it.

Iris nodded and stood up, heading for her room. She paused.
"Fine. I'll be around." She didn't specify whether she'd stay in the apartment or leave, because she hadn't decided yet. "If you need me, you have my number."
Then she slipped in an shut her door with a quiet click! She didn't fall asleep right away; too much to think about. Plus her body was still on Ranch time, wanting to wake with the approaching dawn.
Hunter waited for a while, alone with his thoughts, before he to rose and headed for his bedroom. Once there he took a bag of blood and emptied it into a cup. Drinking slowly he determined how he would beat the council without Paragon's multitude of gifts to assist him.
Eventually he settled on a plan, finished off the blood and went to bed. He had a week to heal, then it would be time to finish this.
