The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mutations
Mutation description: Controls plants. Fern can get trees, vines, grass and other plants to move and do what she tells them. She can manipulate them though telepathic messages sent by touch. Strengths: There is no verbal communication required, she just has to think and feel the plant and it will do what she wants, the closer she is to a plant or the more in contact she is, the stronger her powers get e.g. if only her feet are touching the ground a fair distance away from the plant, it wont react very quickly or strongly but if she is lying on the ground or actually touching the plant, it will react faster and stronger. Weaknesses and Limitations: Has to be in some kind of contact with the plant e.g. if she is standing on concrete she cannot communicate but if she is on grass or dirt, her powers can reach the plant. The plants will only react if Fern is doing it for the right reasons – if she is trying to protect the plant or environment, they will surrender to her control but if she is acting on selfishness or greed, they will resist her power and not react very strongly if at all. Fern can only control plants within 30 feet of her for a maximum of 10 minutes per plant per day (some plants can be very stubborn and/or selfish) and if she is controlling multiple plants at one time, their reaction strength and the time she is able to control them for will decrease.

History Of Your Character
Fern was born into a high-class family in Broome, Western Australia. She grew up an only child and had a fairly normal life, both of her parents worked a lot and Fern had a lot of time to herself, as a child she had always wanted a dog but her parents were very tidy people and said that it would just be too much work to clean up after it. After many years of begging, Fern gave up and stopped trying. She was always popular in school without trying to be. Her good looks and peaceful attitude helped her to make ‘friends’ but she didn’t really make any close friend because she didn’t want to give people control by telling them her weaknesses and vulnerability and basically – she didn’t want to trust anyone which turned out to be a good choice later on when she was betrayed many times.
As she was growing up, Fern had never really liked people and even though she had problems with the way people acted, she would never voice them and therefore everyone liked her. As she got older and more into high-school, things changed. She gave into peer pressure and ‘normality’ and had several boyfriends as they were called but never had any feelings for any of them, she was just trying to fit in. Fern didn’t dislike school but there was always somewhere that she would rather be – outside. Almost every afternoon, Fern would get her escape.
When she was about 13, Fern had been walking along the beach and up in the rocks and cliffs when she discovered a cave. The entrance to the cave was very small and mostly covered up by rocks but as she was walking past, Fern could smell the ocean and feel the cool breeze coming from the hole so she moved some of the rocks aside and slipped through the hole. Inside the cave opened up into a huge underground space with moss all over the floor and vines hanging from the ceiling. On the edge furthest from the entrance was an ocean pool. The water was crystal clear with beautiful corals and fish filling the sides. And in the centre it dropped off. On that first afternoon, Fern spent hours just sitting on the cool rocks and enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the beautiful cave. After a while she couldn’t stand it anymore, she had to go for a swim. As she slid into the pool, she was surprised how warm the water was and was curious as to what was down the middle.
Fern could see a faint blue light deep down in the centre so she assumed that there was something down there. Her curiosity took over and she decided that she HAD to investigate. As she swam deeper and deeper, her chest started to close in and she knew that she wouldn’t be able to last much longer. The light was getting brighter and she could see that there was an underwater tunnel branching off to the side. As she turned the corner into the tunnel, the light got brighter and she could tell that at the end of the tunnel was the open ocean. She couldn’t hold on much longer, her strokes became flails and she could feel the water pushing in on her. As she pushed out into open water, she slowly lost consciousness and her body floated to surface.
The next thing that Fern knew, she was lying on the beach, a black and starry sky above her and something cold and wet touching her hand, she sat up to see a beautiful Golden Retriever standing beside her licking the palm of her hand, as she looked down she could see that her hand was actually glowing in the darkness, it had an unnatural look about it and kind of scared Fern. She looked at the dog who didn’t seem to be phased by the light at all, and then heard a sharp whistle. The dog immediately jumped up and ran a short way along the beach to its owner who had not spotted Fern. She clenched her hand into a fist and the light disappeared. Fern quickly snuck away before the man saw her. When she arrived home her parents still were not back from work even though it was pretty late but Fern didn’t mind, she was used to it and at least this way they wouldn’t know about her little incident at the beach.
After that, Fern visited the cave almost every day, it was the one place that she could go to to get away from everyone else. She was the only person who knew about it and she promised herself that she would keep it a secret to protect it. She never told anyone about her cave and she planned on keeping it as her own sacred place. Fern didn’t take much more notice of the strange marks on her hand, she just assumed that she had hit some rocks or something and that the marks were just a scar.
Fern was 17 when everything started to fall apart, after 4 years of keeping the cave a secret it was discovered, 3 drunken idiots found their way into Fern paradise and ruined it, they had graffitied on almost every visible surface, there was smashed glass everywhere and one of the men was actually pissing into the once-beautiful now trash-filled pool. Fern was so overcome with rage that her hand started glowing, Fern wished that one of the vines that was still intact would smack the man in the back of the head. It didn’t. Instead it reached out and grabbed his feet and toppled him into the water, he hit his face on a bit of coral and blood stained the water, the other two men looked at Fern in shock and she ran, she ran back home
When she got home, Fern thought of every possible explanation for what had happened but only one seemed to make sense – she was a mutant. She had heard about them on the news and knew that they existed but never had she thought that she would ever come across one in her life, let alone be one! She was so confused and couldn’t get her hand to stop glowing, when her parents got home from work, Fern wanted to tell them about what had happened but she knew that they wouldn’t understand. She never spoke to her parents about anything and she wasn’t about to start. Fern didn’t sleep very well if at all that night, she was so confused.
The next morning Fern saw pictures on the news of a man who had drowned the night before. It wasn’t an uncommon thing for drunk party-goers to have accidents in the water but Fern knew that this was not an accident, the man didn’t fall into the water and get knocked out by rocks, he was pushed by a vine, a vine that she had controlled. It hit her hard. She had killed someone. How would she be able to live with herself knowing that she took someone’s life away just because he was drunk. She didn’t mean to kill him but that didn’t change the fact that he was dead and it was all her fault. She couldn’t stand it. Fern went to her room and packed a backpack full of clothes. Then she went into her parents’ bedroom and wrote a quick note. It read “I am a Mutant, sorry –Fern.” She then took as much cash as she could find and her mum’s credit card – which she knew the pin to and the keys to their second car (her parens had carpooled that day) Fern drove. She didn’t have her licence and she knew it was illegal but she was a murderer, what other option did she have? Fern drove to the airport and caught the next plane to New York, she had heard that there was a place there where all of the “freaks” went and were safe.
All that Fern knew for certain as she looked out the window at the clear blue ocean and the white beaches was that it was the last time she would ever see Broome and her family, she could never return.
Roleplay
Where did you learn about this site?: I was told by Verdigris (my older sister) Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: No Sample RP:
Fern could feel the salt spray on her face as she walked through the darkness to her cave, she knew the track well and didn’t even have to look where she was going. The trip was usually peaceful because it was such an unknown area but that night something was different, she could feel that something was wrong, the wind didn’t seem as refreshing as usual, it was more urgent and distressed and the oceans waves were not soothing but dangerous. As Fern arrived at the entrance to her cave the truth hit her – someone else was there!
The rocks that usually sat neatly at the entrance had been scattered and smashed and as she walked inside she could hear the loud raucous of drunk men. She looked around her once-beautiful cave and saw that it had been destroyed, all of its natural beauty had been stripped and replaced with discussing graffiti and beer. There was smashed glass all over the ground and the crystal clear pool was now stained with the stench of humans. There were empty beer bottles bobbing around in the water that now had no fish and broken coral all though it. There was one man in the water, one man sitting against a wall and the third was standing up by the side of the pool singing loudly and pissing into the water. Fern couldn’t believe it! How could someone destroy something so beautiful?
“Hey gorgeous, come to join the party?” The man in the pool muttered. Both the other men looked up and saw Fern standing there, completely vulnerable. Shock hit her first.
“What are you doing?!” she whimpered so full of grief and anger that she could hardly talk.
“Chuckin’ a whiz” groaned the man standing by the pool and as he turned to face her, continued to pee all across the floor of the cave.
“YOU MONSTER!” she screamed and she took a step closer to him. He was almost double her size and ten times as dangerous with all that alcohol seeping through his veins but Fern was not going to let fear stop her from doing what was right.
She noticed that most of the vines that had been hanging on the walls had been ripped down and lay like broken limbs on the ground. Fern wished that they were arms and that they could slap anyone who tried to cross them.
I wish that one of the vines would jump up and smack that guy right in the head to teach him a lesson. she thought.
All of a sudden, Fern’s feet began to get hot and the hand started to tingle. It felt as if she was sinking into the mossy floor and becoming one with the rocks. Then she saw one of the vines still hanging on the wall rise up and slowly wrap around the mans feet, she was shocked but also felt as if it all made sense, that what happening was meant to be and it seemed completely natural. All of sudden the vine pulled and jerked the man off is feet, he fell face-first into the water and hit his face on the side of the pool. His two mates stood up and frightened Fern but when Fern looked back and the pool, she could see the water darkening with the spread of his intoxicated blood.
She ran, the other two men were still bigger than her and now that they knew she was a threat, she was sure that they would act dangerously. She got out of there as fast as she could.
Plant powers are cool and pretty balanced. You can have an awesomely powerful character... but only when standing in a park or jungle. Have her in an apartment building and all that power is reduced to potted plants!
