The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Mhm," Shin nodded, showing Kealey all the related Homestuck fan videos connected to the one he had open. "There are so many. Most of the volume 5 soundtrack is on youtube, too. You can find pretty much anything here."
Sadomasopedonecrorobobestiality, Terezi staring at the sun, Troll Bad Romance, John Hammertime... the list went on. Homestuck fans were insane... but so were Kealey and him. Their tastes matched!
Shin turned the laptop back over to Kealey, letting her lose herself in the art of the search. He didn't want her too lost, though. "They're all great," Shin trailed importantly. "But I think I like your dancing the best."

"It's the double rainbow song," Shin said. He was pleased with himself. "I found a video online of a bunch of the Homestuck trolls dancing to it. Gamzee was amazed. Karkat was annoyed. It was pretty amazing." He stopped himself. "Correction. Is. It is amazing. There are other crazy movies connected to it, too, and to the video the original song came from. Weird stuff." He shook his head with a light laugh. "People take clips from news shows, autotune them, and turn them into songs. You should hear some of these things." They were pretty amazing.
Shin turned the laptop so Kealey could see it. "Here, check this out." He showed her the troll rainbow video.

He couldn't start to imagine how Kealey felt about her sister. She always was the one who felt the emotions, the one who would be most affected by this visit. It was undoubtedly tough for her. He got that. He wished it could be easier.
Shin supported her choice, though, no matter what happened or was said. She had his backing, one-hundred per cent.
The ride to the prison sure was cold and silent... whatever thoughts she had, she had plenty of time to think them. It was the kind of silence that could amplify doubts, illuminate fears. Worries, looming.
Shin wasn't thinking about any of that. He was leaving that to her.
Still... it was hard not to understand what she was going through. It was even harder to understand it. Man, he really didn't know, did he? This whole situation was complicated. This whole situation was hard.
They found the parking lot easily enough, parked the bike, put away their helmets. Kealey thanked him. Shin only nodded. He looked silently towards the correctional facility.
It seemed that while getting there was no problem, those last few meters into the building were the toughest. Kealey almost balked. Shin looked at her seriously. He gave her 'the look'. She changed her mind.
"Good," Shin said, tone like that of the coach that was glad his star player had made the right choice. He turned away from her, still supportive and serious. There might have been a bit of discomfort hidden below all that, but it wasn't important. The 'Shin' emotions were far more prominent. He loved her. He could be strong enough for the both of them. He wouldn't let her walk away from this without doing what she'd set out to do. He'd shove her down the hall if he had to. For now, he hoped she'd stay strong and follow him.
The lance strike aimed towards Gawain missed, stabbing into topsoil. The robot's waist jerked hectically as it tried pulling the lance free. On the third yank, it came out, spilling chunks of grass and earth with it. Shin weaved through the falling debris, straight for the leg.
He hit it! It wasn't very effective...
As Shin's sword slashed uselessly against the robot's leg, a flash of annoyance rolled through the machine's cogs and gears. Its head tilted downwards to eye the pest, then glanced towards the roots clinging to its body. In the small child's mind, this was an alien planet. It made sense that alien flora would cause just as much pain as alien fauna. It shook the loose earth from its lance and addressed the situation.
The sleeping Setsuna bit his lip and rolled in his egg-shaped bed, hitting an imagined keyboard with an alarm-clock swat. Ports opened up on the machine's head.
Shin turned back from glaring at Detective Drake to take notice. Fear hit him like a semi truck. Vulcans. The metallic Gatling guns spun out. The head took aim on his location.
Shin jerked his hands out in front of him, summoning a quick-drawn opaque shield. He ran backwards as the triangular defense flew ahead of him, straight towards the guns. It was too small... Shin's eyes widened. The vulcans started spinning, and... Nothing.
He flinched.
Wait. Nothing?
His eyes crept open. Two flags fluttered on poles jutting from the ends of the vulcan barrels. Each flag said 'bang'.
"... What?" Shin blinked.
Detective Drake mirrored his statement, and raised him profanity.
Shin turned on him. "Watch that! There are women around!" It was not polite to swear in front of ladies. Especially his girlfriend.
Drake rolled his eyes. "Whatever." The robot was moving again. Flags retracted. Legs fought their restraints.

It was a good thing the floor was his. He was going to own it. No. Wait. If it was his, he already did. Oh well, he could own what he owned. That made sense. Wasn't that a tautology? Tautologies ruled. Now, what exactly was he going to do with this tautology, on this dance floor he owned?
Shin took a moment to contemplate dance steps, pausing the video while it loaded. What were they doing in this video? There was a special kind of dance, he recalled, that all the trolls had done. They moved their arms over their heads. They covered their faces. They smiled a lot. There were rainbows. He could do that.
Shin decided on his dance moves. Yeah, he could totally do those. This would be amazing. He turned to face Kealey, hitting 'play' on the video as he did. A certain Double Rainbow song started to play. Shin started singing.
"Whoa, that's a full rainbow. All the way~ Double rainbow. Omigawd, double rainbow~"
He held up two fingers as he sang. Looked over his shoulders. Because omigawd, it was a double rainbow. It was a double rainbow. All the way. Damn. He held his head and looked like he was in awe, dropped some mad beats, and then... he launched into the chorus. As he sang, he passed his hands over his head, summoning a shard of every color of the rainbow each time.
"Double rainbow all the way Cross the sky! Yeah! Yeah! (so intense). Double rainbow all the way Cross the sky Wa! Wa! Omigawd, look at that rainbow~~~"
He kept up the song for a full minute and a half. Then, he capped it off. "That is the baddest ****ing rainbow I have ever seen," Shin stated emphatically. He looked Kealey seriously in the eye, emotions as goofy as it gets, hands rested on his hips. He grinned.

"Yup," Shin grinned. He liked. "You've got a good singing voice, Kealey. Makes me feel like I should try and sing something, because my singing and dancing quota is not being filled. Your quota is being met. Mine is not. But what to sing...?" He mused, slipping past her to tap a few keys on his computer. He brought up Youtube and searched for something. A hit came up and he clicked the video link. Shin glanced over his shoulder towards Kealey. "Can it be my turn now? You may want to sit down for this. It'll be epic."
He was just being awesome. Er, honest. He meant honest. Honestly.

Just a little break, that was all it would be. A little escape from his room, from his studying. He'd been busy all morning studying for his classes. A break would be great. He could manage to keep it short, he figured. He was only visiting his girlfriend.
Only. Visiting. His Girlfriend.
Nope. It might not be short as all that. He didn't think he could stay strong enough to cut it and leave. Maybe he'd have to drag the books to her room later?
Or, maybe...
Shin stopped. He was standing outside Kealey's room, now. Outside her door. Faint music could be heard playing from within. Cautiously, Shin opened the door a crack and peeked in. Kealey was dancing. He blinked. Then, a smile stole its way across his face. She was adorable.
"Boo," He said, evenly enough to avoid any spooking. "Hey. What are you singing?"

>>”As long as you’re there, Christmas will be perfect.”
"Heck yeah, it will be," Shin grinned. He kissed her again and snuggled close, turning his head back towards the television. A hand reached out to snag the remote. The movie ran in reverse, back to the last scene he'd been paying attention to. Shin hit play.
"Don't move, or the bunny gets it!" The television proclaimed.
"This is a really good movie," Shin decided. Because he was watching it with her.

>>”Shin. I don’t speak a word of Japanese.”
"Hai," He smiled. "Yes. Something will have to be done about that." The way he said it was almost comical. "I can teach you. We've got time to help you learn a few words. I'm sure there are books at Full Circle you could get, too, and Ghost speaks a bit. It could be fun teaching you." He was getting more excited by the minute. "There's all sorts of phrases and symbols and rules. Watching Japanese shows could help. We can redouble our television-watching efforts! ... So much as my schedule permits. Kealey," Shin cut off, excitement lessening to a faint background hum. Shin leaned to the side and planted a playful kiss on her cheek. "Thank you," he said gratefully. "Christmas is going to be amazing."

She was... confused? That surprised him a little. Shin lifted his head up off of her shoulder and pulled away from Kealey. He looked at her. Why was she confused? It all seemed pretty simple to him.
Maybe things were simpler inside his head.
He listened to her concerns quietly, thoughtfully. She had a couple. Kealey didn't understand all that had happened. She needed to know more.
Shin understood.
Okay. He might not have understood every single thing she was thinking. For now, he'd handle the surface questions. They were easy enough.
"A short time ago, I went to Japan to visit family. While I was there, my cousin Kokoro's powers activated for the very first time. I spoke with her family and everyone decided to take her here, to America, to this school. She told her parents she was a mutant. They were okay with that. I'd already been living in America all this time. I moved here for a foreign exchange student program, and just sort of stuck around... got my card and all that. I didn't find out I was a mutant until after I moved here... and I never told them." He looked Kealey seriously in the eye, hoping she'd understand the complicated backstory. "Seeing how Kokoro's family took the news made me decide to tell my own parents. I thought they'd be understanding. They weren't." He shook his bowed head. His eyes rose again. They were more hopeful now. "My sister's e-mail says they're alright with it now, though. I'm no longer disowned. So... I want to talk with my father, Kealey, before he changes his mind. And I think you should come with me. Because the timing is right, and I want you to meet my parents, and it's pretty simple, and..." He was rambling a little, but not out of worry. Alright, maybe there was a little worry. He stopped. His voice urged her. "Please." Shin donned a small smile. "For me?"

>>”They weren’t okay with it before?”
"Not since I told them," Shin replied casually. Normally, that would have made him a bit sad, but not today. The e-mail had made things better. It was easier to admit to things now. He'd never stopped loving his parents, even when they'd disowned him. They were owning up to him now. That was amazing. And he was even invited up for the holidays. Thank goodness for his sister.
He didn't notice the slight confusion in Kealey's voice. He wasn't being very perceptive. It was great news, though! Kealey wanted to know if he really wanted her to go with him. He nuzzled her shoulder happily. "Yup." Shin smiled, watching the movie. They might have to rewind it a bit now, to catch up with what he'd missed. Shin didn't stop looking at the television screen as he added simply. "I want you to meet my parents."
Why wouldn't he? He loved her. Her shoulder was very warm.

"Things are fine," Shin said softly, words slow and with a bit of thought. He didn't move from her shoulder. It was too nice of a head-rest. He'd resolved the moment he got the e-mail that if she asked, he'd tell her. It was hard putting words to it, though. Shin tried. "I just got an e-mail from my sister. She said... she said my dad's okay with me being a mutant now, and that I can come home whenever I'd like." There was a spike in his happiness level as the words left his mouth. He couldn't help but grin sheepishly. "She's been working them over for a while now, trying to get them to accept me. The e-mail said it has finally paid off... turns out my dad's a mutant. Who knew?"
There was something to the psychology of that, his father pushing away his son because of how he was like ol' dad. Shin didn't consider it, though. Instead, he snuggled closer to Kealey, snaking an arm around her side. "Sasami says I'm invited up for Christmas. I think you should come with me, to Japan."

((OOC; Planned. Tag, Kealey. November 7th. Sunday. 2010.))
It was another lazy Sunday. Kealey and Shin were watching a movie in her room. Normally, it would have been in his room, but, well... his laptop was in her room, and he wasn't going to ask her to give it back just yet. How would she live without it? He'd survive just fine on his own, checking things out while he spent time with her. Like he needed more reasons to spend time with her? Currently, he was checking his e-mail, laptop perched on a tray on his lap, while Con Air rolled in the background.
They'd wanted to watch this movie for a while now. Homestuck had gone from making fun of it to becoming a sort of shrine. Of course they had to watch the movie that John adored. It made sense.
Kealey was seated next to him. Shin's eyes were on the laptop screen as Kealey watched Cameron Poe. It was nice. Shin scrolled away. The arrow hit 'inbox'. His new messages popped up. An eyebrow arched. Shin clicked a new letter. His emotions changed from curiosity and mild surprise to something else. Something positive. He brushed a tear from the corner of his eye with a plaid hoodie sleeve. For something so positive, it had a funny way of making him cry. It was a strange mix of positive emotions. Relief, joy, thankfulness... sadness. He tried to push them away for the moment, clicking out of the browser. Shin folded the laptop over and put it in 'hibernate'. His eyes rose to the television screen. Shin rested the side of his head on Kealey's shoulder, smiling.

She'd asked for a 'next'. She was getting a 'next'. "Okay," Shin said. "Get ready..."
The hamster grew again. Cheeks bulged grotesquely, eyes widened. Something popped in a spray of black and red confetti! A clown nose jutted up towards the ceiling provocatively, through the multi-colored rain. The cleft of a chin followed, then the neck, the arms. Soon, the entire clown was wobbling a tipsy dance to the disco beat. It was a familiar clown, or at least, Kealey would be familiar with it. It was the same clown from GARO. Right now, it was stuck in its mime stage. A mad funhouse cackling crackled from the speakers, mixing with the disco music and warping it. It took on a funhouse lilt.
The clown stood up and took a step back and glanced around the room, hands on his hips. His eyes caught Kealey. A cheery grin popped onto his face. "Teeheehee," he giggled. Then, his attention shifted to something behind her. He barked a laugh. With a single jump he somersaulted over Kealey to land behind her, a metal rod in each hand. The rods clashed with a blade. A projection of Shin in his GARO coat blocked the attack.
Shin's voice spoke over the intercom. "Protect the Shin. But..." The music cut off. The room blackened for a second. When the lights came back on, the Danger Room was filled to capacity. An army of Shins surrounded Kealey and the clown. The Shin broke the clash, vanishing amongst the others. "You'll have to focus on the clown to accomplish the feat."
Each Shin had a different emotion, ranging from rage to happiness, warm and fuzzy, all the way to bloodcurdling. Compared to the clown's old hamster mix of sadistic mirthful elation, it'd be hard to point out which Shin figured Kealey would have more trouble dealing with. The monster of a clown, or him.
This was kind of twisted. What the hell? He suddenly questioned what he was doing here. Even he'd have nightmares.
Shin leaned forward and spoke into the intercom one last time, then stepped back. "Good luck. Begin."
And all of a sudden, things started moving as the Shin battle royale heated up.

"Alright then," Shin said, standing up. He walked around his desk, out the door. Shin stopped in the hallway and swung his head back around to look at her. "Are you coming?" He waited a second, serious-face on, then broke into a smirk. "I've got lots of ideas on how we can train to help you deal with distractions."
A million and one ideas, to be precise. They'd start small and bring her up until she could handle the tough stuff. As for jujitsu... he'd have to set her up with weekly lessons now, wouldn't he? Maybe they could alternate between that and boxing?
Once Kealey was up and ready, Shin turned and looked down the hall.
"We'll stop on the way so you can wash out your mouth in the bathroom," He commented.
One stop later, they were in the Danger Room. Shin looked down to her from the glassed-off area overlooking the room. His voice was broadcast over the speakers. "Alright. I'm sending the first your way."
He hit a few keys. The danger room lights dimmed momentarily, then got brighter. Something bulged and ballooned in the center of the room in front of her. Brown fur puffed out. Tufted ears sprang to attention. Glassy eyes opened wide. An inflatable hamster with emotions popped up to guffaw at her. It was mirthful. It was having a wonderful time.
"Work with that. I'm setting the lights to disco strobe. Let me know when you want more distractions." Shin said, and he did. Disco lights strobed primary colors around the hamster and Kealey Quinn. Disco music began to play.
Basically, Shin wass training Kealey to deal with external distractions. Loud noises, strobing disco lights, guffawing inflatable hamsters full of mirth.
Yeah. Even he couldn't figure out where the heck these ideas came from. They were just inspiration. He left it at that.
