The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

And…apparently Shin had taken an interest in womens’ clothing. Kealey couldn’t help but chuckle a little as he joined her in the room and sat on the edge of the bed. She thought for a moment about exactly how he was going to help her, because sending him to rifle through drawers was simply too odd, but making him sit still was even worse.
”Hmmm.” the blond said, moving forward and grabbing a handful of hangers one at a time. She was simply going to have to bring a few of the sundresses. They were too nice to leave behind. ”You can fold these things up and stuff them in the duffle bags. I’m not worried about them wrinkling. I’ll work that one once we get back.”
Kealey walked the dresses to Shin and moved back to the closet…there was just so much. Decisions were going to have to be made, but they were difficult decisions, decisions that Kealey didn’t want to make. Out came two hangers, with two more dresses on them.
”Okay. Which one?” she said, holding the two up for Shin to see. The first was blue with a lovely tie-dyed circle on the left half of the skirt. It had a sweetheart neck and thin straps and was definitely more casual than the second. It was a white halter dress with a bow directly under the bodice that flowed out into a lovely little skirt. Two different dresses, for two very different sorts of occasions. They were extras though, things Kealey simply wanted to bring along because she liked them. This was a good way for Shin to help.

Shin disappeared into the kitchen for a drink and Kealey continued making her way around the apartment, opening windows and checking to make sure general order was still in place. Once she’d done that, she made her way back into the living room to pick up her bags, then back into her room.
It had taken some time after the fire had ruined her first apartment for Kealey to build her wardrobe back up, but it definitely had rebounded and for a few moments Kealey simply stood in her closet trying to figure out what it would be practical to bring. There were several dresses there, and Kealey loved them all, the truth of the matter though, was that Kealey ended up in sweats most of the time at the mansion. She was still frowning at the clothing when Shin’s voice traveled from the living room.
The last time Shin had been here, Aurum had been there too. He’d cooked those awesome brownies and they’d all been drunk. Really drunk. She laughed silently at her memories of the next morning. Shin had practically ran from the apartment after depositing Kealey on her rear on the floor of her own room. Had it really been a few months ago?
”You can come and keep me company if you want.” she called back.
”Unless you’ve taken a sudden interest in womens’ fashion and want to help me pick things out and pack.”

June was working its way into full swing at the Mansion and for Kealey Quinn that meant one thing. Her clothes were completely inappropriate. It was hard to tell exactly when the change had taken place, but the sun seemed to be twice as intense as it had been, and the spring clothes that Kealey had brought to the Mansion simply weren’t going to cut it.
That meant traveling into the city and getting her things. It was simply easier to stay at the Mansion right now. When School started again, and the commute stretched it would be a different story. The library still had work that needed done, Kealey was still trying to work out costumes with different members of the X-Men, and truth be told, it was kind of nice to be in the middle of the bustling Mansion atmosphere.
Something about traveling all the way into Manhatten by herself had been severely off-putting to Kealey, and she’d spent some time that day working out a reason why she would need help. Then it was a trip to Shin’s door with many smiles and pleas for help with carrying. She was successful and now they were heading down the street to the Clinic after getting off the bus at the closest stop.
In the back way they went, and up the stairs that led to the small block of apartments. Kealey, keys in hand, unlocked the door and moved into her apartment with Shin following behind.
The living room was exactly how she’d left it, her personally reupholstered furniture proudly arranged in front of her small TV. It smelled kind of stuffy, and Kealey realized just how long it had been since she’d spent any serious time here. Flipping lights on as she went, Kealey dropped the two duffle bags she’d borrowed from people at the mansion in the middle of the floor and started moving from window to window, ”I need to air this place out.” she said, glancing at Shin over her shoulder, ”Feel free to grab a drink out of the fridge. I’ll start packing some stuff up.”

The firefighters arrived and Kealey watched with a shared sense of urgency as they rushed around to hook up their hoses, drag them around, and finally start dousing the flames. The shop was going to be a total loss.
Kealey nodded her head when Shin pointed out that they should probably stick around an answer questions for the Police. Running hadn’t really been something Kealey had considered doing. The police would definitely have questions. They had been close to the fire when it had started, hopefully whatever they could recount would be useful. Kealey didn’t think they’d seen anything that would ultimately be of much use, but she wasn’t a professional investigator, not by any means.
”I hope we can help them figure everything out.” she said, and settled in to wait until the fire was under control and the police could make their way back.
Further back in the crowd of onlookers the redhead stood. She’d snapped her pictures, and gotten all the information she needed. Her exit had been a little sloppy, running into a person didn’t usually make for a sly exit, but it didn’t seem to have mattered. Things were moving along just according to plan. Turning on her heel, she walked away from the scene of the fire, fiery red hair to the middle of her back swaying as she walked.

Kealey’s cheeks flushed slightly when Juka said he’d simply have to see her work. ”Oh, I’m just a student…” she said modestly, ”The things I make aren’t anything special, but if you really wanted I‘m sure I could show you my portfolio sometime.”
Ironically enough, Juka seemed to empathize when Kealey spoke about her powers. He also told her the same thing everyone else did, that her powers weren’t useless. Kealey nodded her head and smiled, ”Thank you for that. It sounds like you know what I mean, at least as far as getting in trouble is concerned. I’ve just got this terrible tendency to get curious….then I can’t stop myself.”
Juka went on to talk about where and how he’d put together his outfit and Kealey nodded her head in agreement, she knew of the stores he was talking about. If New York was good for something, it was hand-me-downs. A person could find the most incredible things in second-hand stores. With the number of designers in the city, and the amount of money that was thrown around, a person could walk into a thrift store and walk out with something that should have been outrageously expensive for a steal.
The most interesting part about Juka’s outfit, though, was that Juka had done all the modifications himself. Kealey looked at it again, with a much more critical eye. The work really was excellent.
”Well, it’s beautiful work Juka. It seems you’ve got a real talent. So tell me, how does one as fabulous as yourself find their way to the mansion?”

She should have been yelling. Something inside of Kealey made that very clear. Maybe it was the feelings of the other person in the hallway. He was absolutely full of regret. Regret for showing up at her door? Regret for what he’d done? Kealey didn’t know, that was one of the many weaknesses of her powers. The feelings were there though, and as he held out a cookie tin, the only thing the blond could do was stare at it.
He’d….made…her…cookies?
Is that what people did when someone let them get away with murder? Kealey didn’t know, but apparently this young man thought so. There were people wandering everywhere, nobody found his presence strange. He was definitely a mansion resident. Kealey’s curiosity rose to replace her trepidation about this meeting. Slowly, she reached out and took the cookie tin from his hands.
”You don’t have to apologize to me…” she said, her words soft and thoughtful.
He’d made her cookies, twice when the first batch had come out poorly. Some of Kealey’s assumptions were being shattered here and the need to understand bubbled up thickly inside of her. How did one approach such a topic, though?
”Thank you, for the cookies. I….have to ask why, though? Should you even be here?”

All things considered, getting out of the store wasn’t all that difficult. Despite the amount of fabric on display, the owners of the store had done an excellent job of keeping the main area of the floor clear. Even with smoke, Shin was able to lead Kealey out of the burning shop with all due haste and little trouble.
There was a lot of smoke, but that made sense considering the fact that there were as many synthetic fabrics in Mood as there were organics. Burning synthetic fabric was a lot like burning plastic. The smoke was thick, and billowing out into the street where New York’s usual flock of onlookers and sightseers were gathering to watch the drama unfold. Kealey didn’t know how many people had been in the shop besides Shin and herself, but nobody was panicked and nobody seemed to be indicating that there was anyone inside.
The general sense of alarm and wonder in the crowd had Kealey’s mind spinning a little, and when Shin asked if she was alright it took her a moment to answer. Sirens came within hearing range, and the sound jolted Kealey from her thoughts. It looked like someone had already called the police.
”I’m fine.” she said, frowning slightly at the flames and trying to sort out what could have possibly happened in a fabric store to set the whole place alight.
The fire trucks were getting closer now and the general excitement of the crowd was growing. It made Kealey antsy, but she worked hard to hold it together.
”How did that happen so fast?” she questioned, I mean, one second we were standing there and everything was fine. The next…something’s not right.”
The sirens were getting louder now, much louder, and Kealey gave the shop a final look, silently mourning the death of all those fine fabrics. It was good thing that most of them would be fairly easy to replace. ”What do we do now?” she asked, pulling her eyes from the flames and back to Shin.

Shin flashed the badge, and Kealey had to admit that the motion was pretty impressive. No opportunity to get a good look at the badge itself, though. She grinned, however, and made a mental note to ask for a closer look later. ”That is very impressive. You’d better be careful not to do that around too many girls, otherwise you’ll have to call for back up to handle them all.”
Shin seemed to be a little indignant about the poking, even if he laughed as he protected himself from any further assaults. Apparently he’d ran across a shape-shifting mutant who was capable of turning themselves into a dinosaur. Why was she just hearing about this now? Sure the last week had been hectic, but had it been thatbad? Apparently so. ”How did you meet them, and are they staying at the mansion now?” Shin had peaked Kealey’s curiosity with his vague recollection of the dino-person, and now he was going to have to put up with the questions.
Not until later though.
Shin smelled the smoke too, and when he mentioned someone burning their lunch, Kealey’s brain tried to reconcile her alarm with that simple explanation. It didn’t work though, and as time passed, she grew more alarmed. The rude person who had ran into Shin had been moving from the opposite direction. The smell of the smoke grew heavier, and Kealey turned slowly, absolutely unprepared to see flames engulfing one of the other large racks holding bolts of fabric.
”That’s not lunch, Shin…that‘s a fire!” she said, coughing a little as a deep intake of breath drew in more smoke, ”We’ve got to get out of here!”

Shin asked if she was impressed, and Kealey met him look for look, ”I’ll let you know when I see it.” she said, an eyebrow raising slightly, as if in challenge. The farce only lasted a moment though, and then Kealey was grinning in good humor at Shin. Truth be told, she really did want to see the badge. More truth be told, she’d probably be impressed. Kealey didn’t tell Shin that, but he’d moved on to the dinosaur before her lack of further comment seemed odd.
It seemed that Shin had really found a dinosaur in the city proper. He was taking it in stride…outwardly. Inwardly was a different story, and Kealey reached out to poke Shin lightly in the chest, ”Don’t try to pull the wool over my eyes!” she said, laughing again, ”You know as well as I do that finding a dinosaur, feathered or not, is anything other than an average day. Where did it come from?”
Shin wanted to learn how to measure? For a moment, Kealey considered simply telling him that it was exactly what it sounded like. Then again, there was a very subtle art to knowing exactly where one measured to get the right numbers. If you were looking for a waist measurement and took it too high or low, pants would never fit right. ”Of course I can show you. You’ll pick it up in now time.” she had promised to teach him the basics after all.
The other question Shin asked, made Kealey smile again. He really did take the costume seriously, even if it wasn’t the supposedly epic one he was going to make for himself. The blond shrugged her shoulders, ”Whichever you like. If the pants are black, they’ll look good with either.”
Kealey had just turned back to start seeking out fabric, when she heard the almost hollow thud that suggested the bolt of fabric she’d handed to Shin had hit the floor. She turned in time to see a mane of red hair retreating, and Shin commenting on how rude the action had been. Something in the emotions made her frown slightly, but she ignored them and bent to help Shin gather the fallen bolt of fabric.
”Everything okay?” she said, mind only half-way on Shin.
It was only a few moments later, when Kealey was standing back up that the acrid smell of smoke flitted through the shop. Kealey blinked and took another breath...definitely smoke, "Shin...do you smell smoke?"

Shin was amused by her thoughts on a police uniform and she smiled. It was fun to bring him around to her way of thinking. The revelation about the Police gave the blond a little bit of pause though. The X-Men were actually working with the police now, that indicated a definite switch from vigilantism to ordained law-keepers. Kealey turned to the fabric to hide the teasing smile spreading across her face, ”And do you have your badge right now? Can I see it? Do you keep it with you all the time to impress ladies?” something else Shin had said caught Kealey’s attention.
Dinosaur? Had she missed something?
”Wait a minute, did you say dinosaur?” Kealey said, still running her hand over the fabric, ”Where did you find a dinosaur that needed saving?”
Shin approved of her fabric choice, and Kealey grinned at his question as she reached up and tapped the side of her head.
”We know how much we need, because I know your measurements.” she said, ”There are more than emotions clunking around in here Shin.”
That being said, the blond reached out and pulled down the bolt from the wall of fabric, holding it out towards Shin, “Hold?” she said, eyes still moving over the other bolts.
"Now, do we want to go with an actual black for the jacket, or would gray"

He was a good kid at heart, as almost all of them at the mansion were. His reaction to the fire on the television was more than appropriate and Kealey nodded her head in agreement with his emotions, only pulling her eyes from the screen again when he spoke.
Kealey shook her head as Locke “enlightened” her about the fact that it hard to be confident. She wanted to chuckle too, but again she was worried the teen would think that she was laughing at him. The last thing Kealey wanted to was to damage his ego. That wasn’t her intention at all.
”You don’t have to tell me.” she said, going back to work on the salad she’d started making earlier. ”Not only do I have to deal with my own insecurities, I have to deal with everyone else’s too.”
Kealey didn’t point out that she’d spent her adolescence in a novice’s habit in a rural Irish church. The fact that she’d skipped puberty for all intents and purposes didn’t have any bearing here.
”Trust me kiddo. You’ve got nothing to be ashamed of. I can tell you’ve got a lot of good things rolling around in here.” she said, tapping a finger against the side of her head. ”Besides, you’re a good lookin’ kid when you’re not trying to hide behind your hair or in a pot of macaroni.”

This was much more like it. Kealey thought as Shin started to get into the idea of her making him a costume. He asked about body armor and Kealey’s eyes narrowed slightly as she looked at the bolts of fabric on the wall. She nodded her head, ”We’d have to go with something a little more heavy weight, but I could sew in pockets to slip the body armor in.
Shin suggested a police uniform and Kealey wrinkled her nose slightly. She was going for aesthetics. While police uniforms looked nice and all, and pointed officers out for what they were, they just weren’t all that pleasing to the eye. She gave Shin a sideways glance.
”You can buy a Police Uniform Shin. I’m going to make you look good when you’re fighting.”
She pondered for a second over what Shin had said, then raised an eyebrow, ”And you have a badge a real Police badge? That’s kind of awesome.”
He said black, and Kealey nodded her head, black was less conspicuous than you would think, but it still worked. Now they just have to find the right type of fabric.
Forward Kealey walked, reaching out a hand to touch fabric after fabric. This one was too heavy, that one was too light, this one would be to clingy, and that one wouldn’t give enough. Finally, after reaching out and touching, she stopped in front of one particular bolt. It was a deep, deep black, and Kealey nodded her head.
”I think this for the pants. We can use lighter shades for the other parts, but I think the really dark black for the pants. Feel it. It’s got plenty of give to it, but it won’t stretch out too much as you wear it and it’s heavy duty enough that it won’t look like you’re wearing stretch pants.”

There was a war going on, Kealey didn’t like wars very much. In fact, Shin quickly became a casualty and that made the blond frown. Wars definitely weren’t fun. The boy with a horn sure looked cool with all the balls on his horn though.
Aurum was still upset though, and the pizza had come. They really needed to do something about that. Shin was still amused with the whole situation, and as he grabbed her hand and started to move from the ball pit, Kealey followed along without complaint. Pizza was awesome!
Out of the pit they went, Kealey bouncing slightly with each step as they made their way towards the birthday boy. When they reached the table, Kealey shook her hand free of Shin’s and skipped the next few steps into a tight hug for the pizza-eating Aurum. ”Happy Birthday!” she exclaimed, ”Did you see us in the ball pit?! Did you?”
”Why are you so grumpy?” Kealey asked, face screwed up in a pouty unhappy scowl. ”This place is so much fun. You should totally go in the ball pit, and there’s ski ball over there, and all kinds of rides!”
Kealey’s eyes roamed the party place as she spoke, taking in wonder after wonder for the second time, ”Ooooo and a photo booth!”
Plopping down in the chair next to Aurum, Kealey grabbed a piece of pizza and began eating it with enthusiasm, ”Why did you want to have your birthday here anyway?”

Oh the tempest of emotions that was the inside of a Teenager’s head. One moment Sawyer seemed grateful for the information he was getting, the next he was something little short of furious. The torrent of words shouldn’t have hurt Kealey’s feelings, but they had. It wasn’t that she was trying to be a therapist, or that she was suggesting he was crazy in any way. She’d really just been trying to help, to offer a friendly ear if he ever wanted to talk. The blond could feel her cheeks burning, and dropped her head slightly, wishing she hadn’t said anything.
He was as quick to cool as he had been to anger, though, and as he apologized for the outburst, Kealey nodded her head, ”I understand.” she said softly and a bit tightly. ”And I wasn’t saying you’re crazy. I know what crazy is, and it isn’t you.”
He wanted to check the book out, probably so he could get away from her, and Kealey frowned even more. This hadn’t turned out the way she’d wanted at all. ”Yeah, I’ll get you taken care of up at the front.” she said, turning and making her way back to the desk she’d left a few minutes earlier.
Sitting, she held out her hand for the book patiently and busied herself looking at the monitor in front of her, ”I don’t really work with due dates. Just make sure you bring it back when you’re done, there aren’t a lot of multiple copies of things around.” She said it with a smile, if Sawyer wanted to stick to strictly business, Kealey could do that.

The radio Kealey had brought from her apartment to her mansion room was playing softly in the background. Sometimes music helped distract her when emotions were running too high around the mansion and that was something that seemed to be more and more commonplace as summer got into full swing. The sketches laid out on the small desk were all of costumes for X-Men and Kealey was trying to work out some of the details. She’d known when she took the job on that it was going to be a big project, she hadn’t really understood all the variables though. Besides the usual problems that had to do with sizing, material, and design there was also the fact that Kealey had to consider the power that went along with every costume. Sam’s had presented a problem that had been easily solved with cold weather gear, other suits…not so easy.
Kealey sighed and leaned back in her seat, pushing stray curls that had escaped from her ponytail back behind her ears. She didn’t feel bad taking a “scholarship” from Sam anymore, Kealey was definitely earning her keep.
Yawning and stretching helped some, and Kealey leaned forward again, humming along with the radio. She was just about to put pen back to paper when there came a knock on her door.
Kealey looked at the door for a moment, head tilted to the side in confusion. She usually didn’t get many visitors. Up she got, padding across the room in a pair of sweats and a tank top. Hand on the door knob, Kealey stopped, brows knitting together at the emotions that could only be coming from the other side of the door.
It wasn’t that they were bad they were just strange. There was reluctance there, along with eagerness, gratefulness and some guilt. Who was it , and what were they doing?
Kealey opened the door, then stood, absolutely riveted to the spot.
A lot had happened in the few minutes she’d spent with the young killer the night he’d stumbled upon her in the hallway. One thing was sure though, she’d never forget that face, those eyes, and here he was again.
There were people moving around, and for a moment the blonde’s first reaction was to call for help. Something stopped her though. Something in those emotions, maybe the fact that the furthest thing from this young man‘s mind was violence. She stared for another moment trying to figure out what it was, then spoke.
”I hadn’t expected to see you again….can I help you?”
