The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

All right, so now that we finally have character interaction, what's next? Selim said hi, Rainbow said hi, so now the protagonist has finally met... the antagonist? HAH! Beautiful! Let's get that right out of the way!
So what does an antagonist tell a protagonist?
"You're Rainbow? Oh. We're supposed to meet at the magic deathmatch arena tonight. Sucks to be you" Selim said, his ice cold blue eyes giving her a deathly stare and Rainbow simply...
Simply what? How would Rainbow react to being challenged in such a way? Only one person could know, so Miles took his eyes off his screen and just when he was about to bother Kara again, she smacked her head on her keyboard.
...
Brilliant! She was a genius giving him answers before he asked the questions!
Rainbow simply fainted. She fell like a wooden plank, her head smacking the floor and making a noise that sounded almost... keyboardish. Selim looked at her with an evil glint in his green eyes. He then started walking away...
Okay, now he was making his protagonist seem like a wuss. That wouldn't do.
Rainbow quickly got up, anger and fury coming out of her as she looked deep into Selim's black eyes and said...
Right. What would she say? His muse didn't magically answer this one without being questioned first, so he leaned forward and was pretty blunt about it.
"So tell me, if some random guy came over to you and challenged you for a duel to the death, how would you snap back at him?"
It's curious how when I have free days, i actually post less. I've been having some compy issues, so yesterday I went to have it checked. It's working now, though the verdict is pretty much 'the computer is old and can't handle what you're playing in it'.
I'll be visiting my mother's tomorrow and likely posting at night when I come back home, or maybe I'll sneak a couple out in the morning before leaving.
So that was you!? hahaha! I remember someone talking about object shifting in Cbox and the spork thing, but didn't think someone would be mad enough to go through with it! Should've known better!
Congrats on your second Ty, it's well deserved and the power is quite different and very fun! Hope you make the best of it.
Miles could sense where his dogs were at all times, though he wasn't paying attention to that right now, with his mind trying to focus on remembering the video game so he could give his friend specific instructions. He heard Penelope say 'Go Victoria!' and the sound of a table sliding on the floor behind him, to which he just waved a hand, urging the girls to quiet down a bit while he kept on talking on the phone.
That's when he heard the lamp crash on the floor.
Miles turned just in time to see Victoria and her dogs plow through some chairs and a bookcase. The books were falling all over her and now the dogs sped through under a table and he could hear the poor girl getting hit all over and WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON!?
His dogs were obedient! They'd never disobeyed him before so blatantly! They were supposed to trot around the furniture, not plow through it to make their way to...
Oh boy...
The sound of crashing glass made him wince and close his eyes tightly but her scream made him open them up immediately and run after her. Oh man, he was in so much trouble! He was going to pay for this BIG TIME! The blame was on him and he... he... why was he worrying about himself? Victoria had just flown out the window!
The sound of small bits of glass crunching under his sneakers didn't make him slowdown, even if it was dangerous to speed through those and risk slipping over them. The boy pretty much jumped out of the newly made hole in the wall, landing awkwardly on the ground and screaming the girl's name.
"VICTORIA!"
He had difficulty telling his surroundings adjusting his eyes to the dark and the light by the lamp posts, but he could sense his dogs, whose maddening dash through the hallway had suddenly stopped and he figured Victoria should be close to them.... or not. If she was a little afraid of the animals before, who knows if she'd be freaked about them now. Oh God, she'd likely be bleeding and they'd have to take her to the hospital... she could have broken some bones and if she had landed on her head or if some glass shard had made it to her neck or... ohgodohgodohgod...
"VICTORIA!!!"
His heart was beating like a jackhammer and he couldn't think straight, but he had to, lest he'd be too much in shock and accidentally provoke something worse. If... if he turned into his dark mode and she happened to be... dead... then....
"VICTORIA!!!"
It was then that he mentally commanded his dogs to find the girl for him, but they barely moved from the spot they were in and just turned their heads to one side.
She was... miraculously standing. Miles ran towards her, both hands in his head, not being able to see how badly cut she was and apologizing as he approached.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I didn't think... didn't know... wuh...?"
Her hair was a mess, her dress had several cuts and rips and was dirty at parts from when she landed but other than that, she wasn't mortally wounded, or cut or... even scraped. She had a few bruises that... didn't even seem much like bruises, just a bit of pink here and there and that was it.
Wait a second, wasn't this girl's skin so frail she couldn't even take a bit of sunlight?
"You're... you're fine!" he said, an immense sense of relief suddenly invading his voice. He carefully placed his hands on her shoulders and tried to better look at her under the lamp lights. "You're... are you all right? Can you move? You shouldn't be moving! Please, lie down..." he said, not really sure how any of this had happened.
"Penny!" he yelled at the younger girl still in the house so she could find them quickly. "Come out through the door, don't risk the broken glass! I need a hand here to move Victoria!"
"D'aww, now you're just being nice" he said with a smile from ear to ear. He never got those sort of words from other people, but he was well aware he wasn't hideous. It's just that... while girls may say to each other they were pretty or whatever, guys never did, so he wasn't used to getting compliments. She didn't seem to be used to compliments either, since her face went a cute red and people who get them often were better at hiding it.
He wasn't used to this dating thing either, though. While minor flirts and fleeting crushes might have happened before his mutation showed up, his sentimental life took a back seat afterwards. Knowing that being a mutant didn't automatically make you an outcast where dating was concerned was quite reassuring, indeed.
Now, what movie would the go watch? He didn't care. Where would they go eat? He didn't care. What would they do afterwards? He didn't care, but if they managed to spend the time together having fun, that's all that mattered.
"All right. I'll think something up then and let you know. At least I know not to take you to a veggie joint" he said with a chuckle as he finished his chicken. It was getting late and he needed to return to Sanctuary before dusk, even though he felt really tempted to stick around, but he didn't like staying overnight without talking it out with Xavier staff and make sure he had permission.
"I'll call you later tonight if you don't mind, so we can plan things over" he offered as he started to get up. "Will you be available? he asked with a hopeful tone in his voice.
Dammit he messed it up! He totally messed it up! Why why why couldn't he just keep it cool and suave? She'd totally laugh on his fa...
>> “Of course I will! I thought you were going to shoot me down for a minute there. I mean, I'm not really used to boys asking me out or anything...but I really want to go out with you!”
Well, that was... that was excellent! It couldn't have gone any better!
The boy beamed as he cut a piece of chicken and tried to mend his previous blunder with a heartfelt compliment.
"I fail to see why other boys don't ask you out. It's their loss anyway" he said as he now bit and chewed.
Was it the tail and ears? There were other visible mutants who had it worse and Ruby's extras seemed more like improvements in his eyes. Watch too much anime and things like that don't seem so weird anymore.
Was it maybe the brains? She read manuals. On robotics of all topics. Did it scare some people off that she was smarter than them? Well, her smarts saved his dog's life in the future and again, it was an asset instead of a flaw. He had no qualms on dating a girl who knew more than he did because something good might rub off on him, right?
Oh, he got it. It was the killer soccer player thing! Guys didn't like getting their butts handed to them on sports by a girl! Well, again, he didn't mind. How many guys were lucky enough to have a girl who actually LIKED soccer?
The boy shrugged his shoulders. "Really, I don't. I keep seeing only good things" he added. "Your hair is beautiful, your eyes are gorgeous and you're very sweet. These boys are probably blind."
Well, now that he had the 'stamp of approval for dating' there was no reason for him to keep his thoughts to himself, was there?
"Now, where would you like to go? I don't think we ever went to the movies or dancing or anything like that in the dream. It was a really awful dream and we deserve to build some good memories over it."
Well, now that warnings had been delivered, Miles gave the typical 'yeah, yeah, sure' nods at Gina, letting her understand he'd be careful, but in reality he had barely listened in typical silly-boy fashion as his brain was concocting ideas on how to prank Guglin.
The goblin was interested in learning Kung Fu of all things and how to be a good ninja, to which the boy simply replied: "Well, coincidentally, hunting dinosaurs is the first step to entering ninja classes."
He wouldn't be surprised if every answer he gave from this point on was some tall tale excuse to get Guglin out there hunting dinosaurs, though he hoped he didn't over do it and made the goblin suspect something was up. When the little green man asked for weapons however, that did give him pause.
Weapons? Well, obviously you needed weapons to hunt but there weren't any to be given in the mansion, unless... Aha!
"Okay, give me a moment" he said, as he gave a nod to his larger dog standing farther away and gave him a mental command. The dog bolted off and pretty soon they heard a clattering sound. Seconds later, the dog returned with a metal poker he'd taken from a basket near the fireplace.
Whoa, wait... If Miles was going to be pulling a prank and the dinosaurs were non-existant, guess who was going to end up at the wrong side of the poker? No, no... there had to be a better weapon to give the goblin.
"This won't do, it's too heavy and... unbalanced" he said as an excuse, giving his dog another mental command, which made him disappear and reappear shortly with a broom on his snout. It was much better than a metal poker (for Miles anyway), since it was made out of wood and the bristled side made it uncomfortable enough that there was no way a two feet tall goblin could swing it properly and hope to hit anything or manage to hurt it.
Whoa, wait... what if Guglin was devious and creative enough? What if he snapped off the bristled side and used those sharp teeth of his to turn a harmless broom stick into a pointy spear? No, no... there had to be a better weapon to give the goblin.
"Are you hunting dinosaurs or cleaning up after them?" he asked as he dropped the broom next to the poker and gave his dog another mental command. His dog left and moments later returned with a wiffle bat, taken from the playing area the younger mutants stashed their toys in.
"Now this is a real man's weapon!" he said, holding the little yellow plastic bat with both hands and swinging it around. He then weighed it in his hands and pretended to study this masterpiece of medieval weaponry as he figured out a way to 'sell' the chosen weapon to Guglin. Surely, if he used big enough words, he'd manage to confuse him enough to accept his hunting gear.
"You see, mutant dinosaurs are from the zenozoic era and ... modern materials like this very special neo propylene polymer compound of... cylindrical... structurification... are like, the one weakness mutant dinosaurs have. So, once my dogs flush the dinosaurs out, you can hit them with this.... deadly piece of gene destructive plastic and you'll have hunted down your prey."
He kneeled down on one leg and offered Guglin the terrifying weapon with exaggerated pomp as he smiled and gave Gina a wink. Once he got up again, he gave them instructions.
"Now you two let me go out and get the backyard ready for hunting" he said, rubbing his hands. "Gina, when you hear me whistle, you take Guglin out and we're gonna have us some fun!"
Going to school from Sanctuary and back was starting to turn into an obstacle course for Miles. Every time he saw a cop, the Gina video popped in his head and he immediately got nervous. His dog's eyes were bright, luminous red and Astor's size always turned heads even before people saw the eyes, so he knew people immediately wondered if he was a mutant, but he preferred that to walking without any dogs. If someone laid a hand on him while he didn't have his canines, he was pretty much defenseless... unless he was somehow pushed to tears and coincidentally a bear or a lion happened to die in his lap.
When he saw the two cops standing across the street, he continued walking with a brisk pace, pretending he hadn't seen anything and trying to look as normal as possible. It was then that he heard it.
"Hey, HEY! STOP! POLICE!"
Miles heart skipped, his legs felt wobbly then turned to lead and his step suddenly broke its rhythm. He suddenly decided what to do. Stop or flee?
Miles started to run. Fast. For a short guy, he could move his legs quite quickly and his dogs followed obediently behind. He never bothered to look behind him, lest he bump into something ahead of him or actually let the cops have a clear look at his face.
Then again, had he looked behind him, he would have noticed the cops yelled at a thief they saw snatching a purse and were now running in the opposite direction from Miles, chasing the thief, so the boy was running from no one.
He huffed and panted as he sped past commuters while he could hear the nails from his dogs making contact with the concrete sidewalk right behind him. He was starting to gasp for air, not really sure how much he had run, slowing down, sweating... were they close? He couldn't tell but if he slowed down, they'd surely catch him and he didn't want his dogs hurting cops or then it would be far worse for him.
His mouth was open now, his steps starting to become slower. He didn't hear them scream again, but judging by how dry his mouth was, the cops were likely unable to scream as well. It was then when he saw it.
A car had stopped and it wasn't just a car, it was a freaking limousine. He would have trotted past it, had the driver not stepped outside and opened the door, gesturing for him to come in. For a split second, miles thought he was gesturing at someone else, but the driver was making eye contact. He was unmistakably being offered a free pass by whoever was inside and Miles didn't stop to think twice before accepting it.
He pretty much dashed in, panting and showing signs of fatigue while breathing through his mouth. There were colorful boxes he didn't immediately register as presents and a blonde girl sitting on the seat across from him that he couldn't immediately place. The limo's door suddenly started to close and Miles quickly stretched a foot and forced it to stay open.
"Thanks, but you're forgetting something!"
Both of his dogs entered the vehicle. It was roomy enough for several people but with the boxes and the two passengers already in it, there was pushing and struggling while they settled down, to the point Astor's butt passed close to the blonde girl's face before he sat down on the car's floor along with Tinaker. Miles immediately broke into a sweat as he panted and his chest shook up and down. He then looked at his savior and recognition dawned him.
She was at the party. Wrong, she HELD the party. She was friends with the redhead. She was friends with...
...MAXINE.
All of a sudden, he didn't know if he had been saved or not. Had he jumped off the frying pan to fall into the fire? He didn't get a chance to talk to her much. He did remember one thing though.
Her name was Celeste and she was very rich. What could a rich, pretty girl like her possibly want from a guy like him?
He snorted at the 'get a pet back' comment and while he didn't really have anything else to do except goof off, play video games and listen to music, he considered those very important and priority number one over homework.
She was very sure of herself but at least she tried to share that determination and made him feel like it was only a matter of time before his fears were conquered. She had been through something similar as well, as probably most every mutant adult had and not controlling his powers were pretty much part of growing up.
"You're right again, but it's been nice talking to you, professor. Thank you for your time" he said, showing his polite side, which was the side of him his mother was most proud of. He then got up from the chair and left the room.
Physics was going to be interesting this year, no doubt about it, and even though he felt he had bonded with his teacher at least a little, judging by the way she behaved and everything... he was damn sure he wasn't going to get cut any slack.
The foamy light brown bubbles raised to the top of the glass when he stopped pouring her soda and he placed it next to her plate. He then proceeded to serve himself while listening to what she was saying about her sisters.
Miles curiosity in this was mostly because he hadn't met that many people who's brothers or sisters were mutants as well. It was always the lone mutant in the family dealing with incomprehension from their parents, but having three kids being mutants, hey, no wonder her parents had to sit down and accept them wholeheartedly. They were outnumbered!
Well, that wasn't true. It was always good to know there were families out there who loved their children indiscriminately despite their mutation and the Lupins seemed like an interesting family in that regard. Talking to his parents about mutation with a cute, good looking, visible mutant even seemed like a good idea. He knew his mother was the one with the most issues, but seeing a girl as gentle and smart as Ruby might change her perceptions on her fears and Miles' own mutation.
"Your family sounds interesting" he said finally. "I have pretty vague memories regarding Emerald... and to me she'll always be Emerald, never Emmy..." he added with a nervous smile "but I'm interested in having you guys meet my parents some day and giving them a pep talk. That'd be quite educational for them."
It was becoming clear to him now that while 'Future Miles' had made many mistakes in his time, Ruby had probably been the highlight of his short existence. The one thing he had done right and probably worth living in a wasteland for. He enjoyed her company and found many of her qualities to be endearing, from how she gave her feelings away with her tail or ears to the way she was devouring chicken. She was also a mean soccer player and a looker to boot.
So... should they give it a second go? Or would that be a first go? Would she say no? This was real life they were talking about, while that was a dream. Did she have the same feelings for him she had in the dream? There were plenty of other dudes around without an apocalypse to kill them off. Would she say no? They were much younger now. Did she have a boyfriend already? Oh man, should he ask that one? Or should he just... ask her out and find out? Would she say no?
His cheeks flushed as he considered these questions. For a kid who considered himself outgoing and uninhibited, he was getting pretty nervous. Come on, Miles, it's just a question! One simple question! Do you have a boyfriend? Would you like to go out on a date with me? Okay, two simple questions!
Nom nom good chicken...
Come on! She won't say no! She already said yes in your dreams! Do you have a boyfriend!? Would you like to go out on a date with me!?
He had butterflies in his stomach, a part of him fearing rejection and another desperate to ask and be done with it. He dropped his fork on the plate and paused as he summoned the courage.
Okay, okay.... Here goes... Come on, you can do this...
"Do you... Do you have go out on a boyfriend with a date with me?"
Obviously, it took a physics professor to determine the physical impossibilities of his impromptu plan for how to hold him back. While for him, it seemed so easy to simply 'make up a glass cage' she was quick to point out the quantities of glass needed for such a feat would be too much and if she made it too thin, it would break just like her statuette did and he would likely hurt himself.
She mentioned facilities in the school better equipped for this sort of thing, where he could go full dark mode safely. Kealey had mentioned it as well a long time back, but he chickened out eventually, since he was new to the school and he had this awful dread of feeling like a lab rat. Also, getting to that point of anguish and sorrow was not something he nor anyone would look forward to, so once he noticed he didn't get to that level of emotional turmoil often, he kept pushing it and pushing it back until it didn't feel necessary to even try it.
She then hit the nail right on the head. That's exactly what he had been doing all along. Not controlling his dark mode but trying to keep his emotions in control. That was likely one of the reasons he liked to joke and prank (well, that and being fifteen) and be evasive, since that sort of attitude was excellent for defusing confrontations that could lead to an emotional backlash. Miles very rarely got angry or upset, always keeping in mind that giving in to those feelings could possibly lead to grave circumstances.
Then again, he had no certainties he could stay that way forever. What would happen the day someone from his family died? What would happen if a friend died? He felt upset when he saw the Gina video, but that was on a TV screen among a whole bunch of people and he kept his cool. Could he 'keep his cool' if something similar happened to him?
The broken glass that had splattered all over the floor dragged itself back together into a sphere. She really was good at this and she hinted he might figure out his own mutation in time, just like she had hers.
"I guess you're right" he conceded. "I am afraid of what I become and I hope to control it someday, even if it means... NOT using what I can actually do with it, which is pretty much the whole point of controlling it" he said. She might find herself unsuitable to help him in this, but her words had been quite informative.
He gave her a reassuring smile as he pondered on something.
"You're a good teacher, professor Stratford. I'm sure as I learn my way into my mutation, you'll learn your way into making us understand you. It's not that complicated and if it worked with me, it'll work with them" he said, gesturing towards the empty chairs in the classroom.
"Good" he said, his fingers now taking a life of their own as he went ahead and tried to incorporate Kara's reply into his story.
Oh... wait a minute, he couldn't just have 'a friend' pop into the story and talk to Rainbow without an identity of its own. This friend needed a name and a description, preferably someone similar to him, a teenage boy, so the conversation wouldn't skew off with too many gender differences.
Miles looked at his screen and his screen looked back at him with his own reflection. He smiled.
A teenager magically teleported into the magical library. He had brown hair and eyes, was good looking astoundingly handsome, his muscular frame made that wolf guy from Twilight look like a deformed camel, his pearly whites made real pearls feel jealous and he was tall. Much taller than five measly feet, he was really tall, had large hands, large feet, large legs and arms and a large torso.
Hmmm... Should he go there?
Yup! He should!
Rumors in the boys bathroom confirmed that he was 'large' all around and a source of massive inferiority complexes among his peers.
Now to think of a name. He couldn't just go and name him 'Miles', no. He had to be very sneaky and subtle. Maybe name him in such a way that they'd need a decryption expert to figure out there were any similarities between him and his creation.
His name was Selim.
Selim Kered Notxah.
Selim approached Rainbow and talked to her.
"Hey there, girl. You may call me Selim. How you doooin'?"
"U-um......I'm K-Kara R-Rainbow. Hi..."
She stared at him in awe and excitement, not really knowing how to think or behave. He was the epitome of perfection.
Professor Stratford confessed she was human... well, not HUMAN human, but that sometimes she had trouble controlling her mutation and she wasn't perfect. She asked Miles to take a seat while she started to tell him a story of her youth.
She used to crack windows and mirrors accidentally when she was around his age. That must have been a bummer, growing up into your teenage years as a pretty girl, starting to... you know... REALLY grow up, and when she caught sight of a mirror, then CRACK!. It must have been demoralizing. She admitted liking looking into mirrors now, but maybe she was compensating for her younger years, now that she could control her mutation.
When she came to the part where she was terrified in the bathroom and the mirrors shattered, he couldn't help but empathize. His mutation was emotionally based and strong, shocking emotions like anguish and sorrow were his triggers. He'd met friends already who weren't blackmailing him since they were mutants themselves, but who had offered to help him control his mutation, but his fear always pushed him to leave things for later. If he had managed to keep his emotions in check this far, maybe he could always do it and never even bother trying to control his dark mode.
She then explained what happened when she lost her cool and it wasn't pretty. Miles eyes wandered as she was about to finish her story. There were windows in the class room, with large panes of glass on the walls letting lots of sunshine through during summer. There were lamps over their very heads when they were studying in class and some kids even wore glasses. Miles felt the need to warn his fellow students as soon as he was done talking to his teacher: Never. Ever. Piss off. Professor Stratford. Unless they were interested in enjoying a rain of broken glass.
She finished with a remark on how you stop fearing something when you learn to control it, just like she managed to control herself when she patted Astor on the head, and speaking of whom, the ball of glass she had been moving around had grown legs, head, ears, muscles and had even darkened, turning into a small glass replica of his dog. This made the boy beam in awe and it was truly inspiring.
"I've tried practicing with my mutation, but... it's almost like cheating" he confessed to her teacher. "I go about giving the dogs commands, and just so you know, I have two dogs, I just didn't bring the smaller one... so my teachers go 'Yay! You're learning!' and I nod and I pretend that's all there is to it, but that's only a side effect. Controlling my thralls is a perk, my real mutation is making them and I can't help but feel dead scared of it. First of all, I'd need a dead body and second I'd need to push myself to tears and third... I'd need to be able to restrain myself and the lure to turn the dead is sooo powerful" he admitted, eyebrows raised as he felt his situation was insurmountable.
This was not the first time the 'control your mutation' talk had popped up in his life, but he still kept avoiding turning into his dark mode on purpose. He was unpredictable in that state and feared the consequences.
"If I do take the plunge" he said, almost in a pleading tone. "If I do end up deciding I must do this... would you help me? Would you be there for me, even if it meant... I don't know, locking me in a cage of glass? Because the last thing I want is to hurt anyone, but if I use my mutation, then something must be already dead and the 'not hurting anyone' bit becomes a moot point."
