The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hunter finished the piece and heard movement outside the door, it was faint, but his acute hearing told him someone was there. He guessed it was Katrina, and so called out “Come in Katrina, it must be a while since you’ve practised.”
Setting the violin down carefully he strode over to one of the glass cabinets. Inside was a hundred year old oboe. Unlocking the cabinet and opening it he waited for Katrina to join him.
Hunter entered the lab’s music room and surveyed the scene before him. An instrument of almost every conceivable type was stored around the room. Bookcases lined with music for every instrument lined the walls. Music stands were liberally scattered about the place. Unlike the rest of the lab, which had the pristine modern look, this room was more like a large eighteenth century drawing room.
He walked over to where his violin was stored and gazed at it for a moment through the glass. The instrument was over two hundred years old, yet Hunter had kept it in immaculate condition. It was the only wooden object that Hunter willingly picked up. Unlocking the glass cabinet he opened the lid slowly and lifted out the violin. Picking up the bow that was alongside it he went and sat on one of the stools.
Holding the violin in position he ran the bow across it and tuned it while thinking of what to play. Eventually he decided against any big classical number and instead went for something a bit simpler, and in his opinion more beautiful. And so he began to play.
(OOC: I was looking for some violin music for Hunter to play and found this and so Hunter is playing the violin part of that piece)
“We’ll see,” said Hunter with a smile, still keeping up the accent, “Now come on, we best get going.” He led the little group out of the infirmary and towards the vehicle bay. Nigel moved next to Katrina and offered his hand with a smile. Hunter had decided against offering Paragon his hand, feeling that was a subject to be broached at a late date.
In the vehicle bay Hunter lead Paragon to one car while Nigel led Katrina to another. The journey to their new apartment would be a good chance for Paragon to get stuff off her chest as well as allowing Katrina to get acquainted with her new “father”.
Hunter listened to Katrina’s objections to the names. Honestly, he’d simply picked the names at random. Perhaps he was showing his age in the choices. “You’re point about the names is a fair one, Nigel, make sure the paperwork is change to be Darren King, Milo King and Katie Christiansen.”
“As for the accent,” said Hunter with a smile, “We have that one covered don’t we Milo.” The last part of the sentence was said in a Wyoming style accent.
“Sure do,” Nigel answered, flashing a smile while coming over and clapping Hunter on the back. His accent was a little softer, with some New York mixed in. “But with New York being the United States mixing pot I don’t think we’ll be too out of place with it huh bro?”
“Not at all,” said Hunter, still keeping up his accent, “And defiantly no worries for that last part. We’ll steer clear of public displays of affection, don’t you worry. Now, if we’re all ready let’s go and see our new apartment.”
“Don’t worry Katrina,” said Hunter with a smile, “So long as you don’t imagine something that could be mistaken for real you won’t cause any serious harm.” Turning back to Paragon he could read the suspicion on her face. She was wondering why Katrina was here. He would be able to better explain it when they where alone, but for now he needed to get them moving, they needed to get settled into their new apartment today.
On que Nigel Banks strolled into the room, also dressed casually. “Nigel, glad you could make it,” Hunter said, greeting his chief lieutenant with a smile. Nigel handed Hunter several documents. Passing one to Paragon he began to explain how their cover would work.
“For this mission I will be going by the alias James King. Iris, you will be Katie Doe. Nigel here will be my brother, George King. Katrina, you will be George’s daughter, Jenny King. Our story is this, I am a salesman from out of state. My brother George, a big contractor in New York, has secured me and my girlfriend Katie an apartment, which we are moving into today.”
“Having already spoken to the Church of Humanity we’ll begin our infiltration this Sunday, when we formally join the Church. That gives us two days to get settled into our new apartment. It’s been arranged for us both to be on the payroll of peripheral companies I own, but without an actual need to go and work there. Instead we can use the time that we would otherwise spend working honing our skills for the challenge ahead.”
He paused and waited for Paragon’s reaction. It suddenly occurred to him that he had neglected to mention to Katrina that he and Paragon would be playing the part of boyfriend and girlfriend. He wondered how she would react to that, as well as having Nigel as her pretend father.
Hunter watched Katrina and Paragon meet, seeing that Paragon greeted her with a much more pleasant tone of voice than she had him. Her ‘thanks’ carried an air that somehow it was his fault that the cat had gone into hiding. Once she had extracted the cat with her liquid gem.
“Katrina was one of several mansion residents to who I have offered safe haven at my labs. Here she is perfectly safe from the government’s malicious intentions. Intentions that we are going to thwart.”
Hunter was surprised by the cat eye comment and cast a quick glance to the reflective surface of the stainless steel cupboards. He smiled, Katrina must have let her mind wonder and thought of Hunter with cat eyes. “Iris, this is Katrina,” Hunter said, introducing the girl, “And she’s the reason for my current eye colour.”
Turning to Katrina he looked her in the eyes and said, “Do you mind changing my eyes back to the blue of the contact lenses? As impressive as these look Iris is right, I’m trying to blend in with humans.” He gave Katrina a smile to show he wasn’t mad. “Iris, if you want to retrieve Ebony she’s in that draw,” he said, pointing to where the feline had taken refuge.
Hunter was unaware of the changes to his eyes that Katrina was unwittingly doing. The lab employees however were very aware of it, and gave him double takes as he passed. Hunter put this down to the casual clothes that he was wearing and so dismissed it.
Reaching the Infirmary he opened the door to find his daughter lying flat on her stomach. His keen sense of hearing swiftly determined the reason. Ebony had gone into hiding. It took him only a moment to locate the feline, who had taken refuge in the bottom draw of one of the cabinets. Clearing his throat Hunter said, “Iris, time we were leaving.”
“I’ll be passing myself as human,” Hunter explained, “and silver eyes don’t really help in that respect. So I think that some simple blue contact lenses should help me in that respect. Now, let’s go and meet Iris shall we?”
Hunter led Katrina through the maze of corridors that was Mondragon labs towards the infirmary. If paragon wasn’t there, which was quite likely, it would be a simple matter to locate her.
Hunter was for once not wearing a sharp and expensive looking suit. Instead he wore a simple pair of black jeans, stylish yet relatively cheap trainers and a plain grey, short sleeve shirt. Also his hair was no longer tide back, but hung loose at his shoulders. The most noticeable difference however were the blue contact lenses he was wearing.
Reaching Katrina’s room he knocked on the door and said, “Katrina, you ready?” He was both apprehensive and excited about Katrina meeting Paragon, but kept both hidden under a calm, cool exterior.
“I don’t know where Amp is, but intend to find her as soon as possible,” Hunter answered Kaz’s question on the twins. He listened to Kaz ask about the defence and answered his questions. “The serum partially blocks the pheromone receptors, reducing the effect that Syn’s ability will have on you, but not a complete defence. No side-effects, permanent effect.” Hunter knew that there was something else bothering Kaz, and something that could prove problematic unless handled correctly.
There it was. Kaz was suspicious of Calley. Hunter had suspected as much, and thus prepared for the eventuality. “Interesting theory,” Hunter said, with a look of what would be perceived as genuine surprise, “and if Calley could become a bird and spy for me then life would be a lot easier. But you were right, it was no ordinary bird. It had a collar around its neck on which a spy camera was located. The animal has been trained by some of the world’s best animal handlers and makes an excellent spy as no one, well almost no one, suspects an animal is spying on them.”
“I couldn’t really tell everyone that it was a spy bird, so I made up the bird loving story. I thought that I had fooled everyone, but apparently not. I shall have to be more careful next time.” The lie was perfect, so seamless that Hunter had in fact fooled a lie detector prior to this meeting in preparation to throw Kaz off the scent. “The only similarity between Calley and the bird is that both spy for me. There are some situations where a human is unsuited and Calley’s mutation, tiger transformation, is not exactly inconspicuous.”
“As for other Kabal members, there is Zephyr, a wind elemental, Tris, molecular exciter, Kitra, matter creator, Sapphire, animalistic telekinetic and Shogun, sensory samurai. Along with you and Nox that is the Kabal. Calley isn’t actually a Kabal member, as the Kabal is a strike force and the Calley works on information gathering, but that is all of us.”
“Your concerns for Katrina are understandable, but unfounded. Prior to this meeting I have spent some time with the girl helping here with her oboe practise and playing music together. I assure you that I have her best intentions in mind. Now as for my true reasons, they are simple. This bill makes life exceptionally difficult for mutants. I am a mutant. It’s simple self preservation.”
Hunter watched Kaz enter. It was quite clear that something was on the boy’s mind. Rather than press for it straight away Hunter told him of the latest batch of refugees, for want of a better word. “Those who escaped the Sanctuary raid are coming in,” he said, “Syn, Abyss, a girl who I’ve yet to identify, but seems to make the area around her darker and Vibe have all been recovered. Everyone else had been captured or is hiding.”
Opening the desk draw he pulled out a hypodermic needle filled with a fluid and placed it on the table in front of Kaz. “That is a partial defence against Syn’s pheromones,” he explained, “It won’t block it completely, but it should reduce the effects. Just in case. Now, I believe that you had something you wanted to tell me.”
Hunter watched Kitra leave before pulling out his phone and calling Tris. She would receive a message via her watch telling her to excuse herself from giving Ali a tour and meet Kitra in the vehicle bay. Then he contacted Kaz, leaving him a message to come and meet him here, as they had things to discuss.
“Get Tris before going. Don’t let on to Ali why, make up an excuse if you have to. Remember that some of my men will be out there with you, so check your target before attacking.” He did not want a friendly fire incident among his own forces.
Tapping a button the screen on the far wall brought up a picture of a Stalker. “Nigh impenetrable armour, advanced and deadly weapons, high strength and speed and either shield or stealth technology. Be careful.”
The change in Kitra’s personality since he had told her of Zelek’s death had been remarkable. The boy was turning out to be more useful than Hunter had hoped, even with his remarkable power.
“All current data on Stalkers indicates that they are exceptionally powerful. Do not engage unnecessarily, all that will happen is you’ll end up hurt, captured or killed,” Hunter hammered the thought home with a little mesmerising help, instilling a sense of caution in Kitra about Stalkers.
“You can go to the sanctuary, but this is extraction only, is that clear? You and Tris are to head to the vehicle bay and you’ll be taken to the battle. One final thing. Calley is, as far as you are concerned a mansion resident, he does not work for me. If you have that clear than go, see who you can save from the Sanctuary.”
