The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Akshay was fine. He didn’t fall, he didn’t hit his head, nothing like that. The only malady he suffered was a slight scraping on the palm of his hand and his fallen cellphone. Both were minor inconveniences at most, and nothing that required the fear and apologies that the young woman was offering. Besides, if anyone could have gotten hurt, it was her. This was especially true given that her coffee had been sacrificed in the process.
But what was altogether more interesting was her appearance. Akshay wasn’t one to gawk. He had been in New York (and California) long enough to know not to stare. This was especially true for mutants. He had been fortunate enough to not suffer physical changes, but not everyone was as lucky as him. Some people faced ridicule, others faced fear, but from Akshay, they would only get respect and some slight interest in their story.
And a story was what he sought from this lovely young woman.
He smirked. “At least you didn’t topple,” he chuckled. “If a little ‘loon flailing’ is all it takes to prevent that, then loon away.”
Akshay loved to meet people. It was the reason he loved working in his comic shop. The number of people he got to meet everyday was amazing. And so many different kinds! It was probably that which made him unshockable in most cases when dealing with fellow mutants. However, the one thing he wasn’t prepared for was the beady eyes and the pink tongue of the snake that slithered out from her hair.
His head tilted. That was an interesting one. However he was shaken from admiration when the woman announced that her coffee was nothing to cry over her. With a gesture she pointed out that there were plenty of other coffee shops in the city.
He was about eighty-percent sure that she wasn’t hinting that he should purchase a new coffee for her, but really was only fair. With a smirk he turned to face the coffeeshop and gestured towards it.
“Say, that’s a great way to make up for my clumsiness,” he beamed innocently. “Please, let me assauge my guilt and purchase you another? Honestly, I could use a coffee myself. And seeing as I just arrived in town a few days ago, I could certainly use a kind person to show me the better coffee establishments in town.”

It all happened so fast. The second that Akshay walked around the corner, there was a collision and he felt himself momentarily knocked off his center of gravity. He had been so busy looking up at the passing buildings, reacquainting himself with his city that he wasn’t paying attention. That was what led to him crashing into an innocent bystander. So tragic.
Out of instinct and self-preservation, his arm reached out, catching himself on the wall. In doing so he watched in surprise as the woman he had bumped into also careened sideways. However it seemed that they both avoided an embarrassing fall and, instead, merely sacrificed what they held in their hands. Saddening, but far better than finding both themselves splayed out on the concrete.
As he steadied himself, brushing off his clothing, he looked over to see the woman was immediately rushing into panic mode. Nothing over the top but it certainly seemed as if she were more worried about what she could have possibly done to him and if he had suffered any real harm. He smiled and shook his head. He was going to reply that he was fine but he stopped when he noted the green skin and then the writhing of her hair.
”Oh, I’m fine,” he said softly. It was amusing that she thought she had caused him any harm. He towered over her, after all. But he said nothing of that and instead merely straightened up and smiled. ”Only thing damaged is my pride...maybe my phone…”
He leaned down and picked up his phone from the ground. Also her’s, which thankfully hadn’t flew too far off. After plucking them both up, he turned them in his hands, not really seeing any cracks of damage and handed her phone back to her with a gracious smile while slipping his own into his pocket.
”Doesn’t look bad at all,” he said, waiting for her to take her phone. ”But seriously, I’m okay. Just startled me more than anything,” he said with an embarrassed smile. ”Are you okay?” he asked with concern. ”I didn’t hurt you did I? He looked at the fallen coffeecup. ”Besides your caffeinated sacrifice, that is?”
Akshay watched the woman with interest. She was a mutant, clearly, but the nature of her mutation was unknown to him at first. The green skin and the moving hair, he wasn’t making any connections. Usually mutants always had some commonality with their powers, a connecting factor that allowed them to make sense. But whoever this woman was, it didn’t seem to follow any flow of reason.
Truly interesting. But he wasn’t going to stare at her like she was a lab experiment. Instead the smiling wordsmith merely waited for her reply, looking her over once more at a glance to ensure that she wasn’t hurt.

It was weird being back in New York. The last time he was here, some unsavory things had happened to him. Luckily, the last he heard, there was no trace of Chrys anywhere in the city. Being as successful as he was, he made sure to hire the best investigator to ensure that the woman who had kidnapped, tortured, and tormented him had gone. With the report in hand that there was no trace of her, he breathed a steady, though cautious, sigh of relief. That was one hurdle down. Now he just had to break through the block on his muse.
Standing in the condo he was going to be renting for the next...however long he planned to be here...Akshay looked out the window and over the sprawling city. He wasn’t back in New York City just for the nostalgia, he was back with a purpose, he was on a mission to find his muse, something that will spark his pen and his director’s eye. After all, this city was what started his inspiration last time.
The incident was so traumatic for Akshay that she fled to Los Angeles. There he continued he comic series focusing on his comic (which he renamed Destructica) and creating tons of new stories. For as terrible as his time was, it allowed him to jump into worlds of his own creation, fleshing them out and penning stories the likes of which he never thought he could dream up. In doing so, his tales of adventure and high fantasy soon garnered him attention he never thought he would receive.
Then the film offer came. Then his stint writing the script for “Destructica” and after that, Hollywood wanted him. He worked on many other projects over the years, even being nudged into the director’s chair. Now Akshay was a complete and utter success -- but he was a success that was hitting a bit of a roadblock. His stories, his eye for the camera, it seemed as if the muse was leaving him. And nothing helped. Yoga, spiritual cleansings, wilderness retreats, complete and utterly isolation, deprivation tanks, none of it was doing anything to spark his muse. So he turned to the only place he could think of to try and reinvigorate it -- the last place he felt truly inspired -- New York.
How could he not find inspiration here? It was the mutant capital of the world! All the strange shit happens here! He remembered reading about the incident with the tear in spacetime and alternate people coming in from another dimension. Talk about some wild stuff! Yeah, he had to return to New York. If anyplace was going to stir his muse, it was here.
Leaving his lavish condo with the design furniture and framed comic book art on the walls, the once lanky and nerdish Akshay Malik left the confines of his temporary home and headed out to the elevator.
Formerly his attire consisted of jeans and comic book shirts. Now he was dressed in a nice suit of navy blue with a partially unbuttoned shirt of beige underneath. His formerly short-cut hair was now hunt a little longer and his upper lip was adorned with a thick mustache, while his chin disappeared beneath a beard. The image he presented was purposefully trendy messy, a flare of opulence now hung about his shoulders.
Stepping through the lobby and out through the gilded doors, Akshay slipped on his Gucci sunglasses. With that he turned on his heel and headed down the sidewalk. In L.A. he got used to having a driver ferry him around, or would drive himself. But, in New York, he vaguely remembered that he had to walk everywhere.
With his hands in his pockets, eyes hidden behind glasses, it didn’t take long for him to meld back into a New York state of mind. He smiled and nodded to a few that looked at him, everyone else he carefully avoided a lingering gaze (easy way to get mugged). A whistle caught his ear as he bent down to toss a few dollars into the tin cup of a sleeping homeless man. He turned around, not catching who whistled at him and instead just smirked to himself. He had always had his own brand of sex appeal but the Los Angeles / Hollywood lifestyle (meditation, exercise, and avocado toast) had certainly knocked his “Hotness” meter a couple of degrees.
It may have sounded arrogant but it certainly bolstered his self-esteem.
Turning back around, Akshay sighed as he breathed in the city. It was good to be home. So good, in fact, that as he sucked in another breath consisting of a strange mixture of spices and smoke, he didn’t notice when he collided with another body that rounded the exact corner he was beginning to turn into.
”OOPH!!” he gasped, thrown off his pace. he nearly fell over, planting his hand against the wall. Seeing another body, the person he walked into also falling over, he attempted to reach out to catch them.

She was fast, but not fast enough to span distances that he couldn’t follow. As she vanished from his line of sight, Akshay kept a bead on her with his abilities, watching as she fled off into the distance. She moved like a bat out of hell, taking to the rooftops and moving as if she were little more than a gust of wind where nothing could stand in her way. She flipped and turned and made good time as the target she was chasing seemed to be on the move. He had to hand it to her, she certainly wasn’t someone that he would ever want to cross. The way she moved, so fluidly, it was almost poetic and terrifying to watch.
However, for as quick as she moved, she couldn’t get away from him. Keeping her within the span of his aura, there were only a few instances where her signature dipped out of his range but she was quick to pop back in again. Teleporting as close as he dared, but making sure to keep his distance, Akshay followed the mutant as she tracked her quarry. She moved with such certainty that Akshay found himself impressed with the pace she kept. Somehow she knew where she was going and where her target was headed, as if tracking him every inch of the way.
Maybe there was more to her than he initially figured.
Traveling across the city, Akshay eventually ported onto a rooftop and was immediately hit by the scent of the ocean. As he stepped onto the scene, he rolled his shoulder, catching sight of that bright, orange spot just down the way. Combatant was there, kneeling peering over the ledge and into a warehouse on the pier. Peering closely at the woman, Akshay kept his distance but ensure that she didn’t leave his sight. What was she planning to do? Take on an army of men by hers—
And she jumped off the roof. Yup. That seemed to be exactly her plan. He grumbled under his breath. ”****ing X-Men…” and then teleported after her.

Akshay gave Primal the cold, hard truth: he was never going to get a free moment again. Those little dignities that people were promised, the lives they were supposed to be allowed to live, that didn’t matter one iota to a government trying to protect the collective good of a country. There was no reason to beat around the bust either. Primal would be tagged and that would be it. He was lucky Akshay hadn’t been sent to bring the mutant into the facility to be processed.
Sadly the truth didn’t seem to sit with him very well. As Akshay turned back to face him, he watched the anger flash across his eyes like a crack of lightning. He was trying so hard to keep himself under control but it was a state of being that he wouldn’t be able to maintain. The agent knew that but he said nothing else to antagonize him. He could, though, give himself reason to haul a dangerous mutant into the facility. Really, it would have been for the best to take a dangerous mutant off the streets.
Turning to face him, Akshay looked directly into the others smoldering eyes.
>> "...Isn't that breaking some type of the fourth amendment?"
He shrugged in response, before he quietly whispered back. ”In the defense of humanity, the government is willing to look past these little things.”
Leaning back against the bar, he watched Primal again, pulling up his beer for another sip. It used to be hard to watch such knowledge descending upon the heads of people who were being tagged. To know that their movements would be forever tracked, that there was always going to be a set of eyes upon them, with no way of freeing themselves from this unrelenting gaze. It was a harsh sentence for anyone but, with time, Akshay’s heart hardened, tempered with the knowledge that this was being done for the greater good.
>>"Yeah, whatever…There's no reason to try and speak to you."
Primal turned around, a pout on his pretty lips as he realized that there would be no way out of this. Akshay sighed, turning to face the rest of the bar again. Another swig, more alcohol, and an empty stomach were only making his decisions harder to make – also harder to be clear. He leaned in, nudging Primal with his shoulder and giving him a soft grin. With a knowing look in his eye, he nodded to him.
”Well…who says we have to talk?” He smirked, his eyes roaming up and down for a brief moment.

It wasn’t hard to find Combatant again. After she had left the club, Akshay made sure to follow but not in any way that would give off his position. Rather he stayed completely out of her line of sight, following her from several hundred feet away. That was the good thing about his mutation is that it allowed him to track her no matter where she was, so long as she was in the area effect of his mutation. He could see her through walls, across streets, anything within the length of a football. So long as he didn’t delock from her, she wasn’t going to get away from him.
Keeping his distance, Akshay continued to track the woman, noting that path that she was following. It was clear to see that she was a far cry from the woman whom he had met in the club. She wasn’t the girlish partier, but rather she possessed expert movement. He watched as she ascended to the rooftops, running along the distance, parkouring her way along whatever track she was following. He could only guess that she must have come across one of the gunrunners that SUPER had known about and was making it her own personal mission to take him down. Interesting.
When she had finally come to a stop, Akshay climbed the nearest roof so that he could keep an eye on her. She was near the ledge of the building, staring at another building. Hunkering down behind a rather large air-conditioning unit, he pulled out his phone and quietly contacted his friend over in intel to give him information about the building and cross referencing the location with any known criminals in their database. It didn’t take them long to send him a message that Antonio Selano occupied the suite of that building, a known gunrunner and all-around sadist.
Again…interesting.
While Akshay could have easily teleported himself close enough to Combatant to knock her out, he wanted to see where this was going to go. So, staying in his hiding spot, he watched her from his distance, the flickering orange light that burned the very darkness with which he viewed the world. She was here hunting a known criminal, but exactly what was her plan? That was the only thing that stayed his hand…interest.

It seemed that whatever middle ground that they had found was now soundly ruined. It really wasn’t anyone fault, mind you, it was simply a reminder of the situation that they were both in. This was a facility that used mutants, that recruited them for the purposes of battling those that resist conformity. Akshay was one of those mutants who would be labeled a traitor and Svetlana was a stronger resister. It was only a matter of time before that clear line in the sand was stepped on and they would be reminded of their place in the grand scheme of the world.
Unfortunate, though, because even for the briefest of moments, it truly felt as if they had reached a point of peace. There was no facility, not looming agency, just two people sharing a small light in spite of their circumstances. It was short lived, but it wouldn’t be forgotten. Akshay closed his eyes, thinking on Maddox and the world he was building with Bruce. Part of him felt a little sick to his stomach but he pushed past it in order to remind himself that he was doing this for the greater good. He had to ensure that the world that Maddox would grow up in would be a good one.
And if he turned out to be a mutant? So far Akshay didn’t see that flicker of orange light within his cells, but that was understandable considering that he was so young. But every day that passed he hoped and he prayed that it would remain that way. Only time would tell.
>> "Well... thanks, anyway…Should I... go back to my cell alone, or do you have to escort me?..."
Lifting his head from his thoughts, Akshay sighed as he stood up, wiping his mouth with a napkin. The dishes would be picked up by the workers so he stepped away from the table and moved to Svetlana’s side. With a low voice, he nodded to her. ”Come on,” he said with no real emotion in his voice. ”I’ll take you back.”

She was very distracted. That could only lead Akshay to the conclusion that she was actually out working on a job, or a “mission”, rather. It seemed that intel was right and that she was here after the same gunrunner who was in attendance. It was a good thing to know that the eggheads were actually doing their job correctly for a change. The man smirked a little to himself but didn’t betray that expression in any way towards the young woman whose eyes kept sweeping the scene. When her gaze finally fell on someone, a pair, who were leaving the room, he put two and two together.
Still, playing the part of the friendly dance partner, he inquired if everything was okay with her. She seemed to be shaken from her thoughts before she turned to face him.
>> ”Hrm? Oh. No. Nothing like that…”
He stopped dancing, just long enough to raise his eyebrow towards her. He shook his head, playing his part well and opened his mouth to suggest that maybe something was wrong, but she was quick to cut him off. She was already…moving away?
>>”Thanks for the dance. You were a doll. But, I really do need to get going…You’re sweet. Get home safe.”
He smiled as he watched her walk away. However, while she thought she was walking out of his life forever, the truth was very different. She actually wasn’t going anywhere out of sight. As she stepped away, he zeroed in on her mutant signature and immediately locked in. Every other mutant around them dimmed from his view but Combatant herself? She flickered so bright that he instinctively wanted to squint his eyes.
A few more steps and she was gone, disappearing behind a door, leaving Akshay standing on the dance floor by himself. However this wasn’t a state that the man looked at all opposed to. Rather, he just smiled and bowed his head to her, muttering under his breath. ”Catch you around…Combatant.”

To those that knew Akshay, the fact that he actually did love his family would come off as just the tiniest bit surprising. Given the fact that he regularly cheats on his husband and gives himself more hours at work than trying to work on their relationship should be an indication that he is not a man who would actually give a damn. Truth was that he really and truly did; but there was the one fall in which he thought himself to be a piece of **** who didn’t deserve any of it. It was cowardice, really, the reason why he didn’t just end thing and release Bruce back into the single life. Cowardice and fear.
But Akshay didn’t let those things sink in too deeply. Talking about Maddox tended to brighten his mood a bit. The kid really did mean a lot to him, even if he didn’t always make it appear that way. Talking about him immediately brought a smile too his face as he began to imagine the boy’s antics, the kind that would make anyone just smile and say “awwww”. The best one that came to mind was the fact that he wanted to be a speed boat when he grew up.
>> "Well, maybe his mutant power will be turning into a speed boat."
Though Svetlana smirked at the comment, her own comment had induced a kind of awkward pause between them. Akshay could only guess what she thought of how SUPER treated kids, especially when there was the chance that they could end up as mutants. To be fair, it was a fear of Akshay’s. As much as he loved his son, he didn’t want to think what would happen if he turned out to be a mutant, much less a powerful one like a psychic. That thought had kept him up at night, especially with every year the kid got older.
”Yeah…” he responded weakly. He spooned the last off the Jell-O into his mouth and remained silent and thoughtful. After a second, Svetlana raised her voice to him again.
>>"He sounds like a nice kid."
He nodded. He raised his eyes to Svetlana again, sharing a small, awkward smile. But as he did, he could clearly see the glow of her mutant signature getting brighter. He winced a bit before he finally reached into the pocket of his hoodie. ”Excuse me,” he said softly. Opening the bottle, he winced harder, dropping a pair of pills into his open hand before putting them into his mouth and swallowing with a hardly gulp of water. He looked up to Svetlana and shrugged his shoulders as he closed his pill bottle and slipped it back into his pocket. ”Migraines.”

His dance partner looked a bit distracted. As the pair of them moved to the undulating song, Akshay couldn’t help but notice that Combatant’s attention seemed to be divided, looking out around the crowd as opposed to actually focusing on the dance. It wasn’t that she really needed to, though; the way she moved was expert and practiced. However, her distracted nature did cause her to bump into him a few times than she probably meant to. Soundless apologies were uttered but Akshay was quick to dismiss them, only giving her a smile in response.
Again, this totally didn’t seem like the woman he had been sent out to grab but Akshay knew better than to trust things at face value. After all, he worked for an organization that firmly wrapped itself up in secrecy and appearing as an opposite of what it truly was. Even Akshay himself had engaged in some kind of subterfuge as well, especially with his personal life. But Combatant here, this wasn’t the face of someone just trying to knock him off balance, but rather someone who was busy.
She wasn’t just distracted by the music. Her mind was working overtime. This wasn’t the face or appearance of someone who was actively trying to find a distraction in the world – she was hunting. But the question was, what was she hunting for? Akshay knew that she was active in the area, that, according to intel, she came into this area when she was patrolling. But if this was a job, what kind of job was it?
In the end, it didn’t really matter. Whatever low level crime she was trying to bust didn’t mean anything to him. Rather he was focused on his own mission and that was not only tagging the mutant but, hopefully, hauling her butt in for SUPER. Still, he had a role to play so he gave her a sweet smile as he got her attention.
”You okay there? Seem preoccupied. Trying to get over someone?”

Akshay held his hand out, ready to shake the other’s hand. However, just as he stuck his hand out the woman seemed to wince rather spastically and reached up to rub one of her eyes. Akshay recoiled, leaning back as he watched the woman with a perplexed expression upon his face. This wouldn’t last as the young woman quickly finished wiping her eye, apologized, and then offered him a rather brilliant smile. She really was quite pretty, almost to the point where he couldn’t believe the stories that Agent Gage had been telling him about her. This was the warrior of the X-Men?
It seemed unbelievable to Aksahy that this was Combatant, the mutant who always managed to leave a trail of broken, bleeding bodies in her wake. This woman seemed so…awkward and unsure of herself. Of course it could have all been an act and, if she were here on business, then that certainly seemed a possibility. Still, he wasn’t going to push his luck. He would play along, just so that he could get close enough tag. Gage only wanted there to be observation but it was something he needed to try.
>> ”Oh jeez! Sorry. Dust particle, I think…My names Abigail. Come on, Mr. Dev…This is my favorite.”
His eyebrow arched. Dust particle? Really he had never seen anyone react in that manner to just dust. But, again, the last thing he wanted to do was push her so he just gave her a sweet smile and nodded his head. Stepping away from the bar, Akshay sighed as he took another sip of his beer. Normally Akshay liked to make it out to these clubs to dance, flirt, have a good time before heading back home to his husband; but this was purely for business. Also, he couldn’t remember the last time he had danced with a woman.
Shrugging the thought aside, Akshay moved out onto the dance floor with “Abigail”, listening to the song that she stated was one of her favorites. It was a catchy number, to be sure, and one that definitely inspired dance. As they moved together on the floor, Akshay began to formulate a plan. If he could get her to some place quiet then maybe, just maybe, he could actually bring her in himself…

>> "He was a nice guy, actually. Not rich or anything, but nice. Acid saliva, though... It was not meant to me."
Akshay nodded. ”Yeah, that certainly doesn’t seem like a scenario for you,” He agreed. He was about to congratulate her on getting out but he stopped himself. Honestly he felt like she would have taken it the wrong way or that it would have put her on a path that she really shouldn’t be on, not after they were finally making some friendly headway. So, he stopped himself and instead popped in another cube of Jell-O into his mouth.
Still, he couldn’t help but pay the woman a compliment. While, yes, he did prefer the company of men, he did acknowledge when a woman was particularly beautiful. Svetlana was a beautiful woman and certainly someone who had been blessed with such gifts. It would have been a shame if they had been marred thanks to the a mutant’s inability to control his powers so he voiced how tragic it would have been had that fate been unavoidable.
She snorted.
>>"Ooooh. The other Akshay wants to be this smooth when he grows up."
Akshay chuckled and shook his head. From her description of him, the other Akshay definitely seemed like a bit of a nerd. Still, with the career that he was creating for himself, he couldn’t help but be a little surprised and, maybe, a little jealous.
”Hah. Well, with how well Mr. Movie Producer is doing now,” he said with a scoff. ”I’m sure he doesn’t need cheesy pick-up lines. Probably has his pick of all the up and coming young actresses trying to make it in world.” He totally wasn’t cynical.
A paused descend upon them. Akshay toyed around with the last of the Jell-O in his cup but stopped when Svetlana raised her gaze to him again. She clearly had more on her mind so he gave her an expectant look, waiting for her to finish.
>>So... you have a kid?"
He licked his lips, taking a deep breath as he kept poking around at his dessert, smirking a little as he thought about his little boy and the life that he and Bruce had built together. He should have felt bad thinking about them, especially considering how many times Akshay found himself in an unknown bed with a stranger sleeping next to him. And yet, despite that, he loved his son and his husband – clearly he had issues.
He gulped and nodded. ”Maddox,” he said with a smirk. ”He’s five.” Another beat. ”Bruce and I adopted him about two years after we got married.” He then grinned, his eyes getting a little distant. ”I remember him telling me that when he grew up, he wanted to be a speedboat.” A chuckle as he covered his face with his hand and shook his head. ”Needless to say Bruce and I were both a bit perplexed.” A snort. ”Still are with that kid sometimes.”

Akshay really did have to marvel at just how easily the two of them were able to converse. Given how they met, and Sveta’s earlier attitude towards him, it seemed to be a rather drastic change of pace. After all, she was essentially a prisoner here until she learned to comply. That was how SUPER worked, that was how they broke people, by making them conform until they were deemed ready to be out in the field. Unless you joined willingly, it was going to be a tough time. Svetlana was in for a tough time indeed, especially given the fact that her powers could be more than useful to the organization.
Still, despite all of it, the two of them managed to find a space in order to be civil with one another. They ate, they talked, they shared, and to Akshay it was a state of being that he wasn’t all together used to anymore. There were few people whom he interacted with at SUPER who were actually considered friends. The majority were just colleagues, most of which who treated him as if he were the creep that Svetlana kept referring to him earlier. Honestly that doesn’t do well for one’s self-esteem.
It was no wonder that he’d rather be alone.
>> "Yeah…I was vat you call a mail order bride. Except, it turned out, de guy did not order me. His mom did. It was... false advertising on both sides."
He smirked. ”That’s actually rather funny,” he said with a sigh. The idea that Svetlana was a mail order bride, come to America at the promise of some millionaire, only for it to turn out to be a ploy set up by the husband’s mother. Given where he found the woman, it was clear that she wasn’t on the high end of the financial spectrum. ”But I guess it’s better that he didn’t turn out to be a psychopath that wanted to turn you into stew.”
He shuddered at that thought, mainly because it was something that had actually happened. There was a mutant that SUPER had to put down who was making long distance relationships but he turned out to be a serial killer. A crazed man who believed he could gain power from devour others. They were a rather sick individual, one who needed to be put down as he was of use to no one. Still, that was a point that Svetlana didn’t need to know.
>>"Still, it got me to America. And that's how I found out about my powers. He was a mutant too. Almost burned my face off."
His eyebrows lifted. He scooped in another wiggly piece of Jell-O into his mouth and chewed. He smirked a little as he gestured towards her face. ”Certainly glad that was avoided. It would have been a tragedy to mar such a face.”

Akshay could still feel his heart racing. He had no idea what was going on, or why the younger woman approached him, initially. Really it must have been some kind of kismet because out of everyone in the bar, it was him that she chose to approach. Really, he never has this kind of luck. People run or ignore him, or immediately believe the worst; Combatant here was actually talking to him and, not only that, was trying to get in some more personal time with him. Honestly he probably should have wondered why but it didn’t seem necessary to poke the bear right now.
She asked if he was gay and he gave her a fairly straightforward answer; yes and that he wasn’t interested if she were trying to get him in line for something more physical. Truth was it wouldn’t have been so far-fetched. He had gone to gay bars before and there had been women who had one too many drinks and tried to bring him back into the heterosexual fold. Though Combatant didn’t fit that profile, he figured that, at most, she could take it as a joke and just laugh it off.
>> ”Oh…I…I’m sorry. That’s not what I meant…I’m just…you know…wanted to dance and you looked a little lonely. Trust me, you’re not my ideal either. Far less boobs than I normally like…It’s cool if not. I was just…curious…”
Akshay turned and leaned against the bar. There was a smirk on his lips but it wasn’t the smirk that was connected with anything really good. However it was delivered with such subtlety that unless someone was actively looking for any sign that things could go wrong, they would miss it. Combatant wouldn’t catch onto this as Akshay just continued to smile sweetly at her.
”Honestly, honey, that’s not the worst way I’ve ever been asked to go dancin’,” he said with a chuckle. However, he nodded his head as he gestured towards the dance floor. ”Why not? I’ve been stationary far too long.” He smiled warmly as he stuck his hand out towards the woman. ”Name’s Dev.”

>> "He's a sweet guy, but not exactly hero material...I do miss the comic shop, though."
Akshay snorted. He didn’t say anything though as he didn’t want to badmouth his counterpart in front of the blonde. Truth is that one of his fellow agents, an actual friend of his, had dug into some of the records of the other world. SUPER was trying to see what doubles were like and if everyone had them. Some did, some didn’t, but he had managed to dig up more information on the Akshay Malik from Svetlana’s world.
He started off as some freelance comic artist who went on to own his own comic shop. From there he continued to gain popularity with his comic series before some movie producers wanted to turn it into a feature film. Akshay agreed, but only with the circumstance that he write the script himself. He did and the movie turned out to be such a success that it absolutely launched his career into the stratosphere. He was a public figure now and, therefore, useless to SUPER. Added to that the fact that his mutation was in no way useful to the organization and he’s free to live his life.
Akshay (from this universe) was unsure how he felt about all that. As much as he respected SUPER, he almost was a little jealous that Other!Akshay got way from this life. What if he had just owned a comic shop? Would he and Bruce be together? Would his life be quieter? Would he actually be happy? The questions hurt his head to try and figure out so he just sighed and went back to his dessert.
>>"Maybe…Although if their life is a copy of mine, it is more likely dey are dead, in jail, or happily married to an American billionaire."
He smirked as he lifted his eyes to her again. She seemed to be loosening up, finally, and even if it were only for a moment it was something that the agent would hang onto. He nodded his head as he slurped up a cube of wiggly Jello. ”Well at least the later of those options doesn’t sound like the worst fate.” He eyed her curiously. ”When we first met you said you were almost married to someone. Same scenario?”
