The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Elizabeth sat on her neatly-made bed, wondering at the suitcases and bags stacked on the bed on the other side of the room. “What do you think, Nico?” she addressed her bird, “I’m thinking…moderately rich girl with an extensive wardrobe and is coming here because her eccentric parents thought boarding school would be a great experience for her. And her powers, um, she can turn into a giant butterfly. How’s that sound to you?”
“Chocolate!” the parrot squawked, flapping off Elizabeth’s desk to land on her arm. Liz laughed and fell back on her bed, stroking the red and grey bird with her other hand. Ever since Liz had taught him that word, he always wanted to use it, even though she knew for a fact that he recognized and knew dozens of other words. African grey parrots were smart enough for that, and Liz suspected that was the precise reason Nico never used his vocabulary. “I love you Nico,” Beth confessed with a light laugh.
The girl remained on her back with her pet on her raised arm, both content without doing much of anything. Then the door cracked open and Liz saw a face poke in.
She smiled at the girl and sat up, slightly disrupting Nico’s perch. “Hello there, Haylee. I’m Elizabeth Sundance,” she said cheerily. “And this here is Nico.” She lifted her left arm up, in case Haylee had somehow missed the parrot. “So I guess we’re going to be roommates, huh? Neat!” Elizabeth was happy to finally meet her roommate. She’d figured she’d be getting one, but she hadn’t known when until just awhile ago when the suitcases arrived.

Liz stalked down the tree, keeping her senses trained on the dinosaur. For some reason, she couldn’t feel its feelings, and so she couldn’t tell if it was calm (and more likely to attack her), scared (and probably run), or just wary (and eat her for dinner). It left her feeling...naked, to an extent. She was close to the base of the tree and froze, waiting. Then the dinosaur made another noise. It reminded her of a sparrow chirping. And it made a weird kind of sense. Weren’t dinosaurs supposed to be related to birds?
Then a movement at the corner of her eye stole her attention momentarily. A man had appeared, kneeling over the deathworm that had attacked the thunder-chicken. Liz mentally slapped herself for being so careless as to completely train all of the lizard’s senses on the dino beneath her. She gazed at the man, wondering what he was doing. Well, that was easy enough, actually. The man was staring at the dinosaur. Which was only natural, really. The unnatural thing was the man’s mini army of giant slugs roaming around his body. Was that man a mutant-worm whisperer or something? Or a mutant. That was a very likely explanation. Just as likely as a 15-year old girl staring at the scene from the mind of an escaped green anole.
And the man looked to be in charge of the worms, or was at least friends with them. Elizabeth quickly checked the worm on the ground’s emotions. Yep, they were much improved, thanks to her tampering and definitely through the man’s presence. And since the man was with the worm, that meant he was against the dinosaur. Five to one were not good odds. Let’s even that a bit, shall we?, she thought to the lizard she was inhabiting.
She jumped off the tree and skittered over to a stop a few inches away from the dinosaur, praying that she wasn’t doing the stupidest thing in the history of fools.

"Good to meet you Elizabeth. I only wish it could have been under better circumstances."
“Heh, same here.” Liz remarked with a grim smile. Yes, she would’ve much rathered have met this woman taking a walk in the park or something instead of a hostage situation in a tiny movie theater and the following flight of fear the ensued. It would’ve been weird, creepy, and awkward to meet her then, but at least it wouldn’t be as trauma-inducing. As it was, Liz was thinking that she was in shock or something. She was at least tired.
She steadied her swaying with a light touch on the shelf beside her. “Okay, I think I’m ready to go now.” She took a step towards the entrance of the store and wobbled. She righted herself quickly and proceeded onward, confident that the journey “home” would be okay with Meld there with her. Home. Oh man, I need call Mom soon. She’s going to be freaking out and phoning half the police in the country to find me and figure out what was wrong. With a fresh worry on her mind, Liz made it outside.
To put it frankly, the streets and air outside of the bookstore were chaos. For some reason, everything was going crazy. Liz stopped, wondering what was going on. Then she felt it. Hammering against her thin barriers, a tsunami of emotion. And it was beginning to break through. In the primitive parts of her mind, Beth could feel a deep panic building up. Oh no, what did I do here? Now Liz could tell that the only things going nuts were the animals. And they were all under the influence of some potent fear. A familiar fear. “Great,” she muttered. “Today just isn’t my day.”
She stepped over to the wall of the place and leaned against it, closing her eyes. Now she had to undo what undoubtedly she had just done. Liz began concentrating and sending out a basic blend of security and comfort, trying to affect as many animals as quickly as possible.

Liz crossed over to another tree from two branches that nearly touched. Even with her goal and mind, she couldn’t help but marvel at the little creature she was inhabiting. It was just a little ol’ thing, but it felt as fast as a rocket, could climb practically anything, could change colors, and had a pretty red dewlap. Its mind was fascinating as well. It was so focused, so clear-cut. It knew what it wanted and oriented itself to go after it. It was cool and logical: it was the mind of a predator.
It was that part of the mind that made Liz remember to keep tabs on the worm and the dino. As she got closer to the main trunk of the tree, Liz focused on the worm’s feelings, demanding that they keep her in the loop. In return, she felt a spike of confusion. That was odd. The feeling began confusing her as well, and not just through her empathy. Is this creature supposed to feel hunger or whatever all the time or something? I really need to figure out how my power works. She sent another wave of emotion at the beast, this time one of security, hoping that that would negate the confusion. The tricky thing about feelings: there wasn’t always an opposite to any particular one.
Liz cut the concentration and directed her attention to the dino. She decided that she needed to figure out its emotional status and see how best to approach it. About midway down the tree, Liz stopped in confusion. That’s funny, she thought. Maybe she’d lost it? It was very possible. When she was climbing on the branches above, she couldn’t concentrate on the ground much. And with the speed she’d seen the dinosaur use; she didn’t doubt that it could’ve ran away.
But then Chicken-Rex hopped out of a bush at the base of the tree. Liz stopped again, after only a few inches of progression. Okay, maybe I just need to see specific creatures to target them. That made sense, kind of. Again, she focused. And again, she got nothing. She switched her attention to the worm-thing and shortly received feelings. But she didn’t get any from the dinosaur. Slightly creeped out by the fact, Liz cautiously climbed down the tree, watching as the dinosaur slowly retreated from the worm.

Relief washed over her as the mutant confirmed Elizabeth’s statement. Even though it was because of her that the whole theater incident had started and Liz had been taken hostage, however briefly, it was okay. It hadn’t been Meld’s fault and the situation was behind them. Meld had taken care of it, apparently. It had obviously involved bloodshed, but Liz chose to ignore the fact. What was done was done.
“I understand,” Liz said in response to the rest of the statement. “Thank you for what you did, revealing yourself like that. I’m not sure what would’ve…” Liz couldn’t say anything else. Her voice broke as it was and a wave of tears threatened to pour out of her ducts. “Anyways, thanks.” She smiled a most sincere smile, honestly grateful for the mutant’s assistance in the matter. And it was probably because of Meld that none of the gunmen had actually managed to follow Beth out of the building.
"Where do you live? If you want I can escort you back there, make sure you're safe."
Liz clambered up on her feet, suddenly aware of how drained she was. The frantic flight through the streets combined with her use of empathy as well as the amount of her own emotional turmoil had left her suddenly tired. “Thanks,” she said, swaying a bit. “I live at the Xavier Sister School for Gifted Youngsters. It’s not too far from here; I walked to the theater.” Gratitude was about the only emotion left with Liz. Her fear was gone; why would she be afraid when Meld was there? Besides, Meld had already taken care of her other fear.
“My name’s Elizabeth,” she informed her, feeling it was only fair since she already knew Meld’s name.

What a situation. Here Liz was, in the body of a lizard who was just attacked by a dinosaur, now trying to save said dinosaur from being attacked by a giant mutant worm. Wait, mutant? The thought stopped her. Was it possible? Was it possible that there happened to be two mutants out there, one who could turn into a chicken-dino and one who could turn into a mini Mongolian death worm? She guessed it was just as possible as a mutant who could turn into a gryphon or a mutant who could become as cyborg-ish as she wanted.
But for all she knew it could’ve been an evolved lizard and some type of land leech. Either way, she needed to protect the dinosaur. It was clearly in danger.
LizZard repositioned themself on the tree, so they were facing down. It provided Liz with a better view of everything. Everything but the dino which seemed to have disappeared somewhere. Possibly behind the quaking and shaking leaves of a bush at the base of the tree? It would make sense, running from a hunter that much bigger than it. But at least it was safe for now, she hoped.
She settled her gaze on the worm that was…melting? It looked that way. She focused on the creature anyways, commanding its emotions to reveal themselves to her. A slight mix of pain and…hunger? Frustration? Something along those lines showed itself with the pain. Her heart went out to the beast, as horrible and sickening as it was. She started broadcasting a mixture of comfort and contentment toward the worm, hoping that it would negate whatever it was that was bothering it.
Then she set off to find that dinosaur, but choosing to climb along the tree branches to get to it. It was a lesson she’d learned for an old Tweetie Bird cartoon, where the canary was giving a sick Sylvester Cat his pills via slingshot: it was better to be safe than sorry.

"I'm sorry for what happened back in the theater," The woman said.
Elizabeth’s eyes flared open as the words sank into her brain. The woman was at the theater? With cold fear running through her, Liz glanced at the woman’s arm, the metal one. The blades on it had some blood slowly drying on them. Oh my God! She IS a gunman! With fresh terror painting a detailed scene on her face, Liz raised her eyes and met the woman’s awful gaze. It was bad enough that something was wrong with one of her eyes but now Liz knew that she was looking into the eyes of a cold-blooded killer who was about to kill her, no matter how nice her voice might sound. It was just an attempt to lower her guard.
"I hate to see one of my own people suffer because of the war I fight on their behalf. Is there anything I can do to help?"
She blinked. Did that mean she was a mutant? Of course it did. What else would explain the monstrosity before her and the apparent ease of using such abominations instead of limbs. The teen inched back a little more. Being a mutant just made her even deadlier. Was this one of the dangerous mutants her mom had been so worried about on Beth’s first day at the mansion? Of course it was. THERE WAS BLOOD ON THE WOMAN’S BLADES! And she had blades attached to her arms! That normally meant that she was ready (and possibly proficient) in using them. On people.
Then the rest of the statement processed. War on their behalf? So, she was…Good? But, how..., The answer dawned on her. “You’re Meld,” she stated, a sense of enlightenment descending on her. Her fear slowly began abating. This was the woman the gunmen had been looking for, and whom they’d been willing to use Liz as a hostage for. Such evil men, they would only be going after someone who was Good, right? And the blood on her blades probably came from attacking the gunmen. And she had a shield so she could’ve survived the fight. And she was probably the reason none of the gunmen came after her. Because she took them out. The answer was simple. “You’re like, a hero.” Liz stared up in wonder.

Before they had a chance to escape, LizZard heard a whooshing sound and then felt tons of vibrations and heard a loud CLANG! Whatever it was that had attacked her before was back! And right beside her! The joint terror of the joined minds knocked Liz out of control over the reptile. Their legs powered up and LizZard ran past the creature and leaped/fell off the edge of the bench. From there they darted through a few feet of grass and skittered another few feet up a tree, instinctively turning brown.
Finally Liz started calming the duo down. As she began thinking clearly, she beamed feelings of calmness at the lizard, rapidly decreasing its fear. She searched through the anole’s thoughts and found one it associated with comfort and security. She dragged it to the surface and let the anole’s mind wander and relax as it remembered lounging under a heat lamp with a full belly.
Elizabeth herself was harder to calm. She quickly made sure her emotional barriers were up, something that confused her about possessing. Although she could still use her empathy with animals, when in an animal’s body, her secondary powers were…well, a bit limited. But at least she didn’t have to worry about quickly getting overwhelmed or anything.
In the extremely short amount of time it’d taken her to climb the tree, the creature attacking her had let out a frightening…trill? If she’d been human, she would’ve blinked. Trill? What kind of animal trilled? Especially when it saw a tasty-looking lizard like the one Beth was inhabiting? Confused, Elizabeth turned the reptile’s head and stared at what had attacked her.
It was…a dinosaur? But it was the size of a cat. She laughed to herself, in her own thoughts of course, at the creature. It was more like a chicken than a T-Rex! Then she happened to notice its claws. Wicked looking things. LizZard was suddenly reminded of their own mortality when Beth realized that she was a light snack for the monster.
Then movement below the remnant grabbed her attention. It was like watching Tremors. A worm? Is that seriously a worm? With a giant mouth? With TEETH? And it was attacking a freakin’ DINOSAUR?!?! Liz stared for a moment in total disbelief.
Then she realized that something was going on. And she needed to stop it. Freaky little dinosaur that had just attacked her or not, it was probably the last of its kind (or it would’ve been all over the news) and she was practically honor-bound to protect it from this…worm. She focused her feelings and shot them out in a narrow band to hit the two creatures. Peace, tranquility, happiness, calmness, love, and a cocktail off other positive emotions and feelings, as well as laziness.
(ooc: Remember! Liz cannot affect Amber ‘cause she’s a shifter. Worms, it’s up to you to decide if Liz can affect the worm with her empathy, and if so, to what degree.)

Liz needed to go back to the mansion. It was getting pretty dark out and she wanted to get a good night’s rest. But the green anole was so fascinating! She had been taking a walk to central park, wanting a different place to get away from everyone at the mansion (a place without movies or crazy gunmen), when she’d thought about something. Here she was, a girl who’d officially come out of the mutant closet only recently, yet she still hadn’t done much with her powers than calming Nico down each time he got angry over something.
So she’d decided to change that. Recollecting quite clearly what had happened on the fateful day she’d discovered she was a mutant, Liz had proceeded to imitate the process with the only thing she could find on hand that would touch her. And so there she was, slinking and streaking through the grass and bushes in central park, as only a green anole could. It was rather intersting, her power. Somehow, it not only let her control the creature’s thoughts, but she also had total access to their minds. She’d easily spent twenty minutes sifting through the lizard’s memories and thoughts, somehow understanding the foreign patterns. From that, she’d discovered that he was an escaped pet who was thriving in the park. And that had given her the idea to take the little guy back to the mansion with her, since he clearly didn’t belong outside of the southeastern United States. She’d be helping him, right? And he’d clearly volunteeered to escape and he had no tags. Finders keepers?
But it was getting dark so she tried figuring out where she’d left her body. She didn’t think it would be practical to run back to the mansion as the lizard.
And that was when the moon blacked out and a huge weight landed on her. Well, not on her per se, but close enough. Alert with her own fear bolstering the lizard’s natural flight response, Liz darted through the grass and up a park bench, scared to turn around least she see what had tried to attack them and let it catch up with them.

Between heaves and tears, Elizabeth could heard a metallic ringing sound slowly approach. It was so odd that she couldn’t help but tune in to the noise and allow her curiosity to soar. It seemed to be getting closer. Then a thought hit her. Could those be steel toed boots or something? That sounded like an article of clothing a gunman who’d shoot at a young teenager would wear. Suddenly frightened, Liz tensed up and then cautiously peaked her head up over her knees.
A scream died in her throat as she took in the sight before her. From the feet up, the creature looked like it came out of Frankenstein Meets The Cyborg Men From Outer Space. Two giant metal talons created the base, obviously responsible for the metal sound she heard on the tile flooring. The woman’s right arm resembled a giant metal spoon-and-variety-of-forks-and-knives combo, ceiling lights glinting off the metal at various angles. A glance of at the face showed a strange looking eye, although she couldn’t tell what was wrong with it, only that it looked funny. Then her eyes drifted to the tail. It was an evil-looking thing, making her think of manticores or metal scorpions. The entire appearance was a frightening sight.
Then came the voice. "Hey, are you all right?"
Liz blinked in confusion. Such a terrifying and horrible-looking creature from a surgeon’s nightmare had just asked if she was alright? Her eyebrows furled as she stared blankly. “Huh?” she drew out. “Wha-what? I uh…yes?” Why was the woman who looked like she was aobut to finish the gunmen’s job asking her if she was okay? Her sruvvial instinct kicked in and she began inching away, as subtlely as possible, wondering what twisted game was being played.

Beth rapidly slowed her pace, suddenly realizing that a running girl attracted quite a bit of attention. She didn’t want attention. She wanted anonymity. The few browsers barely glanced at her once she did so. A single teenager who was out of breathe and looking a bit crazed in the eye was nothing compared to what these hardcore residents commonly saw on a day to day basis. Using this increase in cover, Liz walked straight to the farthest corner from the door. There, she could relax, take a breather, and then figure out what to do next.
She found the back corner and would’ve laughed under any other circumstances. The wall on one side of the corner listed books dealing with paranormal phenomenon, like psychic stuff, and the other wall contained many field guides and encyclopedias on animals. But these were not ordinary circumstaqnces. Instead, she merely found them to be slightly comforting and offering a great place to remain undetected by any gunmen on the streets looking for her.
She huddled down in the corner, making sure that the only way anyone could see her was if they stood directly at the end of either of two aisles. She was safe, to a degree.
Then the shock vanished and Liz dropped her head to her drawn up knees, tears running down her cheeks as she began crying. The drama and all that had happened began ctaching up with her, once her survival autopilot had relinquished control. Had she seen people killed? She was certain that there had been blood in several spots. But she’d been focused on saving her own butt and hadn’t really taken full stock of the situation. Could she have done more? The guilt tore at her. Yes, there had been screams. She was certain of it. Screams that she’d never heard before, but slightly similar to ones she’d heard in horror films.
She heaved and sobbed as guilt, terror, sadness for the others, and dread overwhelmed her. In fact, she was practically lost to the world, not even noticing when the door opened again and a metallic sound on tile could be heard from location.

Liz ran out of the theater and pushed through a small group of people as she headed towards the lobby. Surprisingly, there were quite a few people there, despite what was happening in the room she had just vacated. But the thought didn’t register in her mind. The only thing that did was a scene of the gunman she’d pushed walking out of the theater and gunning her down. She ran even faster, tucking her arms in and pulling her head down, nearly running a few people over. She just had to get out.
She practically flew out of the front doors, her earlier moment of clarity gone with the wind. Panic and fear were controlling her actions. As she streaked over the concrete sidewalk, clouds of grey and white exploded out of trees and off buildings as dozens and dozens of pigeons felt her fear and flew into a panicked frenzy. The birds rose and dove, cawed and cooed, flapped and flew in their irrational fear of …something, heavily mimicking Elizabeth’s own actions. Dogs began barking and whimpering, pulling at their owners’ leashes in order to hide or get away. Fear was a powerful thing.
Suddenly the sidewalk was crowded with people. Pushing aside her normal caring self, Beth pushed and shoved at people, fighting her way through the crowd. She was certain she knocked people over but it didn’t matter at the moment. It also never occurred to her that she was also making such a clear that that a blind old lady in a wheelchair could follow it.
The empathy came to a corner and crossed the street without so much as a glance either way. By some divine force, cars zipped by but none of them touched her. But that danger didn’t compare with the danger she felt from that gunman, or any of the gunmen, really. They’d all had a pretty good look at her face. She needed to hide. She hit the other side of the street and looked up. Great, a bookstore. She pushed the door open and ran inside, hardly noticing how people stared/glared at her as she ran to the back.

My life is over, Beth thought as the man who’d grabbed her originally came up to her. She cringed and futilely put her arms over her head, as if that would protect her from anything the guy was going to do. She closed her eyes and began making some fast prayers, knowing that she was about to get shot. And then, a woman cried out, announcing her presence. It had to have been the person they were looking for, this Meld person.
Then the theater exploded like the fourth of July. Automatic gunfire blasted from four different directions, all aiming towards the spot where Liz had heard the woman’s voice. Like a couple of the other people, she screamed. Then she opened her eyes and realized: this was the best chance of escape she was going to get. Trying to take advantage of all the chaos around her, and hoping the men were single-mindedly determined to kill the woman, Liz rolled over and began crawling towards the wall. It was a lot harder than it sounded. The room kept twisting and pitching as she crawled, threatening to knock her over. Something had affected her balance and made her dizzy. But she couldn’t think on that now. Especially with bullets flying everywhere and hitting everything.
By the time she made it to the wall, her balance had returned but she didn’t stand up. That would’ve made her a pretty good target, even though nobody was specifically aiming at her. She began edging her way towards a door by the bottom. There was a man there, but he wasn’t very close and his attention was clearly fixed on the woman…who seemed to have a shield attached to her arm. Weird. But Liz didn’t focus too much on that.
In another minute or so, she made it to the door. She was now about six feet behind the hitman and standing adjacent to a trash can. With a hand on the door, she took one last look. And her conscious froze her feet. The woman was not dead or captured, yet was surrounded by guys with machine guns. And Liz seemed to be the only one who could help. But what can I do? I’m useless. And what if someone shoots ME?
She made up her mind. She ran three steps and placed her hands on the man’s back, using her momentum and full body weight to push the man forward several steps, causing him to flip over a chair and bang his head on the arm of another.
Then she was out of there. She fled through the exit.

I wouldn't mind. My character is very new herself ( I haven't even totally finished her intro thread) and I think she'd work out well with Haylee, since she always tries to make friends and give second (and third and fourth) chances to everyone.
