The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Dante had been through some pretty tough times lately. While he was still in contact with Gina, it wasn't the same as getting to see her more often, which was the reason he'd moved to New York. And he did enjoy what time they did get to spend together. And then when he thought he had found someone...things just sorta went downhill fast. He couldn't even remember what she'd gotten mad about, but it ended the relationship. So, now Dante found himself alone in the big city.
Well, currently he was alone in a pretty large and fancy nightclub, sitting in the corner, downing drinks left and right. He wasn't gone but he was starting to feel the effects. Next to him, lay his acoustic guitar in the case. Before this he'd been playing in the park but...it really didn't help considering that was how he met her.
In a moment of inspiration, he took out the guitar, sitting back against the booth. His fingers danced along the strings quietly, amid the buzz of the usual club ambiance, and his eyes closed.
He could have melted into the booth, because as it were, he just melted into the music, letting the sad yet soothing sounds coming from his fingertips lift his mood slightly.

Dante smiled as she leaned against him and they talked. This was definitely something he'd missed; something he'd never really had with anyone else since coming to New York. Besides, Duke was crazy about her, and judging how picky Duke was about people...that gave Dante plenty of reasons to be crazy about her too, right?
He leaned against her, smiling softly as he tried to focus on the television, but he had too many thoughts bouncing around in his head. Thinking about the woman next to him, how he thought he felt about her...
She really was a great person, and deserved much better than him but...she was giving him another chance, and now they were snuggled up on the couch. He was afraid of messing this up again, but...maybe they could be something. Maybe this would be good for both of them.
His eyes closed as his breathing steadied, holding her close.

Her head leaned against his shoulder, and his arm instinctively went around her shoulder. His head rested against hers as he closed his eyes a little, taking it in. This was...nice. Unexpected, but nice. His hand moved to caress her hair as he held her close.
"We can just leave it on this, if you want," he answered, his hand running through her long, blond hair.
"So, I take it you just got back, from the loss of energy. Jet lag is a *****," he said with a slight chuckle.
"It's been sort of the same on my end. Business has been picking up, though so I've been able to get some actual furniture," he said with a slight laugh.

Dante nodded over at Zoe, sliding a little closer to her. Part of him wanted to put an arm around her, but he wasn't sure how she'd take that. After all, he was the jerk that had never called her back, after promising to twice. And now by sheer happenstance he was in her apartment. He didn't want to mess this up again, but he wasn't sure how to go about that.
Duke was curled up in the corner, going to sleep himself as Dante looked over at Zoe for what was probably too long. "If you need to nap, you can. Just let me know what you'd want me to do in the meantime," he finally said. "I can always leave and you can call me in a few hours...or something."

Dante loved how good she was with Duke; she was so sweet. She deserved so much better than how he'd treated her. He could make excuses all day long, but he hadn't called her back. And now here he was, in her apartment, holding her hand as he stood up and walked back to the couch as Duke relaxed on the floor, rolling over onto his side with a 'flop.'
Walking to the couch, he sat down, still holding her hand, and flipped on the TV with the remote. "So, did you have anything planned or are we just hanging out?" he asked, looking over at her.

Dante looked back at her as she spoke, and Duke calmed down considerably as well. Dante nodded, though to him, a girl who could talk to animals and a guy who could turn into dogs was a match made in heaven. But apparently, it wasn't. Which meant...he got a second chance, right? Well, that's what it seemed like, anyway. He just hoped he didn't blow it this time.
"I understand," he murmured as his free hand blindly reached over and took one of hers gently. "I'm glad we did too," he said, looking back over at her again before he leaned over and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, testing the waters just a bit.

Dante stood up from the couch, but Zoe got to Duke before he did. Right, she could actually communicate with him. As she knelt in front of his dog, he had to wonder what that was like. Especially seeing how he reacted in ways that nobody else could get. Duke *hated* most people, but he'd grown fond of Zoe almost instantly. It was incredible, especially after not seeing her in all this time, and he lay down in front of her, calming.
'Other dogs. So many other dogs. Wait...one dog? Or human? Dog? Human? Dog?'
Dante walked over to Duke and started scratching behind his ears. "What, does he smell an ex-boyfriend or something? Or their dog?" he asked, looking at her. Honestly, he wouldn't mind if she'd have seen someone else in their time apart. It wasn't like he'd actually called her back or anything. He looked at her, brushing his hair from his face as he did.
"I...thanks for having me over. Well, us, over. Especially after...well, yeah. I'm sorry I didn't call..." he said, looking away briefly.
Dante smiled, walking to the apartment with her. It was actually pretty nice, and totally overrode all of the negative feelings and insecurity he'd felt after calling her to realize she wasn't even in the country anymore. But now...maybe things would be different. When they got to the apartment, Dante took the leash off of Duke and made his way for the couch and sat down. "I'm okay, thanks," he said politely.
Duke, meanwhile, walked around the room, sniffing out the new environment. Something was different about this place. So many other dogs had been here; they all smelled different, but....the same? The big black bulldog-mix didn't know how to process this, but as he was about to give up and go lie down in the corner, something else hit his nose. Something that smelled....wild. Feral even. Wolf. Danger. Bad.
Duke let out a distressed bark, accompanied by a whine as his tail drooped and his ears pinned back, looking for the threat before barking again.
The kiss was nice, he had to admit. And then, as it broke, just like that, it was as if he was being given another chance. One he knew better than to mess up this time. Maybe this would work, maybe it wouldn't, but...he had to try. Besides, from the looks of it, his dog wouldn't let him do anything else, it seemed.
Hell, Duke's attachment to her should have told him from the beginning that she was something special. But he didn't listen. Or pay attention, rather; he couldn't talk to Duke, not like Zoe could. Taking her hand, he let her lead the way, realizing he'd never actually been to her place.
As they walked, he struggled to find something to talk about, and the awkward silence set in, but he sort of just gripped her hand, hoping for something to come of it.
"It would..." he mused, smiling softly, finally releasing the hug. He took a breath as the awkward silence started to settle in again, and then he noticed the yawning. "You look tired, so I'll let you head on home, but I'll call you in a couple days," he said, realizing he'd beaten that line into the ground by now.
Taking another breath, he leaned in, giving Zoe a long yet gentle kiss on the lips, as if to say, 'I promise."
"You take care of yourself, or...would you rather me walk you home? Because Duke and I would be glad to," he offered with a small smile.
He smiled, his head leaning on the taller girl's shoulder, though if anyone had brought up the fact that he was an entire two inches shorter than her, he likely would have been offended by it. His height was just something he was self conscious about.
"He is pretty smart," he mused, looking into her eyes as she continued to speak. "Would be nice for things to start turning around," he murmured, smirking slightly. But he was still afraid it wasn't going to work. Then again...if it didn't work...at least he tried?
"I'm glad we ran each other too. You uh...I don't know...wanna hang out sometime?" he said with a smile.
For the most part, one could consider Dante's mutation next to useless. It had no offensive use, and the only defensive uses were small smokescreens and spitting smoke in someone's face. Yet, Dante was reliant on it; just being able to breathe and bend smoke to his will tended to make him feel better.
Dante rested his head against the taller woman's shoulder as he held the hug. "Well, I hope you're nothing like that too. Duke likes you, I like you, but..." he looked up at her. "The world has ****ed us both up pretty badly," he said, the smile growing a little weaker as he spoke.
The awkward settled on the pair like a thick fog as Dante looked at her, listening to her speak. She...liked him? That made him feel a little better, but there was so much that could go wrong. But...there was always that what if, for better or worse...For effect, he let out a breath, releasing a thin stream of white smoke, mentally shaping it into simple shapes, including a heart before letting it dissipate into the air. Then, he stood to his feet.
"I like you too," he murmured. "A lot. But...someone's changed their mind about me before, ya know?" he sighed. "If one person can do it, it's hard not to think that other people can, too...and that's why I didn't call until a month ago. I...I just don't know. It's confusing, but I do know Duke likes you, so I guess that's a good sign, right?" He chuckled lightly before pulling her into a hug.
The way she said that, her words, the look on her face...it cut pretty deep. And reminded him why he took so long to call her in the first place. Dante winced as he turned around to face her, just sitting on the ground next to Duke, who was supposed to be mans' best friend, but instead seemed to be taking her side.
He sighed deeply as he looked up at her.
"It took me that long to get the nerve," he admitted. "I mean, I don't exactly have the best experience with this kind of thing, so...I was afraid. Afraid that if I did call you'd change your mind or something," he said, not making eye contact as he spoke.
"It was good to see you, though."
Dante just sat there, because Duke still wasn't moving, and he knew if the big dog didn't want to go anywhere...
"That makes sense. I mean, he was rather fond of you from the start," he said with a smile.
Dante could feel the tension, the awkwardness in the air. He could only imagine what she thought about him; after all he knew what it looked like, what it seemed like. He promised twice that he'd call her, and as far as she could tell, he just didn't. So from that perspective, he really couldn't blame her for not even making eye contact with him. Leaning down, he scratched Duke behind the ears as she started speaking again, kind of glad she hadn't left like she'd started to.
"Oh, I uh...I tried to call you. Your friend told me," he said with a shrug, as if it was nothing. Though he was sure it was probably too little, too late.
"I guess I'll be seeing ya," he said quietly as he turned to walk away, but for him it wasn't as easy.
