The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The time had come. It was the day that she was to move into Julliard and leave the mansion as a resident. She was moving on with her life, attending a school of music, trying to make something out of her life that was more than just being a mutant or the victim of sadistic parents. It was time to wave goodbye to all of that so she could rejoin the world as a productive member of it, to get her life in order and to the point that she wanted it to be at.
And she couldn’t be more thrilled or scared.
Sitting in the backseat of the art teacher’s car, Mr. Holloway, Agnes sat with Rebecca as the pair of them drove away from the school. Agnes couldn’t, or wouldn’t, take her eyes off the mansion, the place that had offered her a second chance at life, a chance that she never thought that she would ever have. It was hard to say goodbye to that place since it was so pivotal in all the good things that happened to her: graduation, her sister Gina, her girlfriend Rebecca, her freedom. There was just so much to be thankful for with that school that she didn’t think she’d ever be able to repay them.
But maybe, some day, she would.
She glanced at Rebecca and smiled as she weaved her fingers into her girlfriend’s, squeezing her hand tightly. Now she was ready…
****
Mr. Holloway was nice enough and wanted to help them carry everything up to Agnes’ dorm, even wait for Rebecca so that he could drive her back. But, Agnes had been able to convince him that his help was more than appreciated already but that they could handle it from here on out. It was not that she didn’t want him helping, but she wanted to do this part on her own. After all, this was going to be her home for the next year, possibly longer if she decided to stay after the required year; she should do it on her own (with Rebecca as cheap labor, though).

It was move-in day! Well, for Agnes at least, but since Rebecca was commuting from the Mansion for her first year, she was enjoying the excitement of move-in day vicariously through her girlfriend. Even though Rebecca's classes had already started, she had barely been able to catch any sleep the night before. Since it was her last night sleeping next to Agnes in Agnes's Mansion bed, she spent most of the night trying not to keep Agnes up before her big day.
Well, most of the night she let Agnes sleep at least.
In the back of Mr. Holloway's truck, Rebecca rested her head on her anxious girlfriend's shoulder, doing her best not to yawn. (Or at least, when she did, she tried to do it in an adorable manner like a kitten rather than a scary one like a lion.)
****
Mr. Holloway waved from the truck, accepting Agnes's need to move in to her new home independently. "Good luck, Agnes. Girls just call me when Rebecca's ready to leave if she needs a ride." Rebecca nodded in thanks as the nice Southern man drove away.
Rebecca turned back to Agnes, who was... clearly panicking. Rebecca hugged her girlfriend from behind, wrapping her arms around her waist, hoping her presence would calm the fluttering wings. "The next amazing chapter of your life, silly."
The supportive girlfriend, wearing a red striped shirt and a blue coat, (after reading up that red and blue were the Julliard colors,) relinquished Agnes in favor of picking up two dufflebags and strapping a laptop bag over her shoulder. "Now nae neverous dawdling. You have a roommate tae meet!"
That was probably the one factor of move-in day Rebecca was most excited and nervous about. Besides her Mansion roommate, she was not going to go through the exciting challenges of living with a stranger, but to some extent, she would do something like that with Agnes's roommate. The roommate was crucial, now that she thought about it! If Agnes had a cold, uncompromising roommate, it could be harder for Rebecca to visit, and more importantly, sleep over!
All of a sudden, Rebecca was starting to catch Agnes's contagious nervousness, even if she kept a strong face to comfort Agnes in her time of worry.
Needless to say, Agnes was terrified and completely intimidated as she looked at the huge building that loomed in front of her. It was really no different than going to school at the mansion, she would pretty much be living in her school. But no matter how she tried to convince herself of that, this was completely different; she felt it. Yes this was a school, and yes she would be living there, but the biggest difference was that this was not a school for mutants. She hoped, she prayed, that no one was going give her a hard time.
Shuddering at the thought that she was actually going to have to start to get moving, she felt herself stuck in place. For whatever reason, she really just couldn’t find the will the move. Maybe she should ask Rebecca for a shove?
But she got the next best thing; a pair of warm arms wrapping around her waist. She smiled sweetly as she leaned her head back a little, feeling Rebecca’s cheek brush against her own.
>> "The next amazing chapter of your life, silly."
“So long as it’s not my last,” she said with a nervous giggle.
Quickly, though, Rebecca disengaged from her and began to gather up a few items. Still wracked with nerves, but seeing no way back, Agnes picked up her pair of duffle bags filled with clothing, sheets, and various other items. They weighed down but she could manage.
>> "Now nae neverous dawdling. You have a roommate tae meet!"
Agnes gulped but nodded. Together the two trudged towards the dorm building entrance and she held her breath, whispering in the back of her mind Please let them be nice, please…

After a quick stop at the registration desk, Agnes managed to find someone with information about what she was supposed to do. She signed in, confirmed her identity, and was issue her room number. Thankfully, though, she was told that she and Rebecca actually DIDN’T have to haul everything up! All they had to do was deposit her stuff with the staff and they would take everything up to through the freight elevator. Apparently, Agnes had brought Rebecca for no reason.
Quickly, she apologized to that. Thankfully, though, Rebecca knew that she was there for more than just being a luggage mule. Quietly Agnes held Rebecca’s hand as she watched her luggage being carted away and was handed her floor and room number.
“Welcome to Juilliard,” the kindly receptionist said and pointed her to the elevators.
“Thank you,” Agnes smile and glanced at the paper. “15th floor, room number 12,” she turned to Rebecca and shrugged. “I…guess we should go up…”

It was somewhat of a relief to know the two girls would not have to lug Agnes's baggage up to her room, especially after being reminded that she was living on the fifteenth floor. Agnes, being her usual self, apologized for bringing Rebecca along when she was not really needed. "Hush, weirdo, Ah obviously came for more than free labor and a work out." Rebecca was not going to let Agnes go through such a nerve-wracking experience alone; not until she was comfortable settled in, at least.
The girls entered the elevator and Rebecca quickly found the "15" button and pressed it, letting the elevator doors close, leaving the girls alone in the elevator.
It was the only time they were going to be alone all morning, so Rebecca quickly turned around and pinned Agnes to the wall, knowing they only had fifteen floors of privacy. (Well, if one ignored the possibility of elevator cams.)
Rebecca placed a nice, thorough kiss on Agnes's lips. "Sae Ah'm a little excited tae see th' fifteenth floor view Ah'll be sharing with you when Ah visit." She chose to focus on the positives of visiting Agnes, rather than the sad truth which was the drastic cut in time together they were going to endure.
Rebecca placed one more kiss on Agnes's cheek before smiling warmly and releasing her from the girlfriend-wall snare. Looking up at the illuminated numbers, it would seem they were passing the eleventh floor. Darn, Ah had at least fifteen more seconds. Sadly, the moment for more kissing had passed, but Rebecca was glad she took advantage while she could.
With time ticking away quickly before the destined meeting, Rebecca asked, "Hae you talked tae your roommate at all yet?"
Into the elevator the pair went and silently the doors closed. It was funny, how odd Agnes felt without actually carrying her luggage up to the 15th floor. In a way, it was less relaxing than having to haul everything up herself. At least when she had her bags, she could have something to do with her hands rather than just fidgeting around aimlessly. Thankfully, though, she didn’t have to worry about having nothing to do for much longer.
Suddenly she found herself being pinned against the wall of the elevator. She squeaked in surprise but that soon turned into a pleasurable sigh when she felt those sweet lips upon her own. Smiling around the kiss, she wrapped her arms around Rebecca and held her close, basking in the love and attention from her significant other.
Really, she didn’t know if anyone was watching through security cameras, or whether she would get in trouble for that. She really hoped not. The last thing she needed was to get kicked out of the school because she couldn’t control her hormones.
…
…wait. Didn’t she have this conversation with herself before?
She took the thoughts away as the kiss came to an end, thankful that no one else got onto the elevator with them so far. Before she knew it, the kiss had come to an end and Agnes was released from her sweet prison.
>> "Sae Ah'm a little excited tae see th' fifteenth floor view Ah'll be sharing with you when Ah visit."
She beamed and nodded, thankful for the kiss that now warmed her cheek. She glanced up at the numbers and saw that they were almost there. Rebecca was good at distracting her back there, but now she was back to her usual nervousness. The moment was quickly coming upon them.
>> "Hae you talked tae your roommate at all yet?"
Meekly Agnes shook her head.
“Nope. I have no idea who she is going to be. But,” she said as she looked down to the information on the rooms. “I think I’m actually going to have two roommates? What?” She started to sound worried as she unfolded the map to show Rebecca the room that was spacious enough for three people.
DING!
The elevator came to a stop and Agnes’ breath caught on her throat as the door opened onto the fifteenth floor…

>> “Nope. I have no idea who she is going to be. But, I think I’m actually going to have two roommates? What?”
Rebecca frowned; the tone of surprise in Agnes's voice heavily implied that, up until that moment, she had assumed herself part of a double. If Agnes was not at all prepared to meet two new living-mates, perhaps there was a more valid reason to worry.
And now Rebecca had twice as many new people to impress or win over if she planned on having any visitation rights at all.
DING!
The doors opened and Rebecca gulped quietly, taking Agnes's hand and doing everything in her power not to squeeze it nervously. The two girls crossed the threshold into the fifteenth floor.
They walked through the hallway, looking at numbers on walls. "Well, two roommates. That... well, that could be twice as fun, right?" Sell the optimism! Sell it! "It's another new experience for you, after all!" Sold!
Before they knew it, they were staring at a wooden door and the a small metal badge with the number twelve etched into it. Rebecca looked down at the knob. "Welp... now or never, right?" She gave Agnes's hand a light squeeze (not influenced by nerves) to remind her that she was with her one-hundred percent.
The look on Rebecca’s face made Agnes feel that suddenly her supportive girlfriend was going to be just as nervous now as she was. Instantly, she saw that look on her face, the fear in her eyes, and she knew that Rebecca was also nervous. But why was she nervous? Agnes almost wanted to laugh at that because it wasn’t like Rebecca was going to be moving in with those people, SHE was! But, maybe she could understand. After all, for a year, these people were going to be Agnes roommates and whenever Rebecca visited, she would have to deal with them too.
Sigh. Just too much to handle at once. Part of her wished that this was just a dream that she would wake up from but she knew that she needed to press on. There was no turning back now.
Silently they exited the elevator and began to walk down the halls. Agnes found her eyes wandering, taking in the sights of decorations, advertisements, even just general posters of encouragement. It served as a good enough distraction for her.
>> "Well, two roommates. That... well, that could be twice as fun, right? It's another new experience for you, after all!"
Rebecca’s sudden voice brought Agnes back to the situation at hand. She could enjoy the stroll all she wanted, but she needed to keep her head in the game, she was here to meet her new roomies. As nerve wracking as that was, she couldn’t go to pieces.
“Thanks,” she said to Rebecca. Not in a sarcastic way, not even in a way that was thanking her for the comment. It was a “thank you” for coming with her and going through this experience together. Agnes, every second, counted how lucky she was to have someone like her in her life. It was a fact that she would never forget.
It was only a few more steps before they finally stopped in front of a wooden down with the room number etched onto the metal plate. Agnes sighed as she started at it nervously. Was she really ready for this big of a change.
>> "Welp... now or never, right?"
“Right.”
She turned and smiled at Rebecca, giving her a firm nod. She was scared, that much was true, but she was not going to be a coward. Not anymore.
A deep breath filled her lungs as Agnes stepped forward and wrapped her hand around the handle, turning the knob, and stepped into the room that would be hers from now on.
Once inside, she paused. The room…was actually pretty nice. It was spacious, desks already set up with deep red and blue sheets on the beds and fairly basic carpet. One side of the room had bunk beds, while the opposite corner sat a single bed. Already someone was on it, a pretty blonde who seemed to be keeping to herself and going through a box filled with books. She raised her head to take a single look at Agnes before she turned her head back to her box and pulled out her ballet shoes.
Agnes already felt a little bit of a vibe from her. But before she could dwell on who this person was, and why she was ignoring her, another girl stepped into view from around the corner where she was situating her books on the opposite wall. The young, African-American stopped before Agnes, dressed in a black sweater, black shirt, and blue jeans that accented her thick curves. She was obviously a woman that was proud to flaunt whatever she had. After a second of silently eyeing both Agnes and Rebecca, she smiled.
“I sure hope that the both of you aren’t living in this dorm,” she said with a sassy tone, but a friendly smile. “Cause one of you will end up sleeping on the floor. There’s no way they’ll be able to fit another bed in here.”

>> “Thanks.”
Rebecca nodded as a silent, "You're welcome." She knew Agnes well enough to know what she was being thanked for, and she was glad to be there as a support system for the woman she loved.
The door opened up before them, and Rebecca was able to get a better impression of the room. Rather, she got a better impression of the roommates, basically ignoring the amenities themselves. One girl was blonde and all but disregarding the entrance of one of her new roommates. Besides being blonde and having clearer skin, Rebecca thought the blonde looked somewhat similar to herself. (Otherwise known as "Agnes's type," Rebecca thought subconsciously, fidgeting uncomfortably.)
The other girl looked about as not like Rebecca as someone could, with her dark complexion, full-figure, and brimming confidence.
>> “I sure hope that the both of you aren’t living in this dorm, cause one of you will end up sleeping on the floor. There’s no way they’ll be able to fit another bed in here.”
There was something about this girl that was instantly likable. Rebecca smiled brightly and replied, "Nae, this one's your new roomie. Ah'm jist th' doting girlfriend t'day." The word girlfriend left her lips with a brief hesitation in the middle of the word, like a hiccup. Rebecca had no problems admitting she was Agnes's girlfriend, but halfway through, she wondered whether either of the roommates might have a problem with it.
Still, people were entitled to their opinions and beliefs, and Rebecca was entitled to live openly and mark her territory for good measure. Pushing the worry to the back of her mind, she extended a hand to the African-American roommate. "Ah'm Rebecca."
It was needless to say that Agnes was just a little intimidated by the young woman that now stood across from her. It was not that she was taller or something physical, it was just because of the confidence that the woman seemed to exude. There was power behind her voice that dripped with every little word that she uttered. Agnes was both in awe and terrified of the woman and unsure of how she should present herself in front of her. Nervously she fidgeted with her hands, trying to find her voice to respond, but, thankfully, Rebecca managed to take the reins of the introduction.
>> "Nae, this one's your new roomie. Ah'm jist th' doting girlfriend t'day."
Agnes visibly stiffened a little at the comment that Rebecca made. She came out swinging with the “girlfriend” comment. It was not that Agnes didn’t want people to know, or that she was embarrassed by announcing she was a lesbian, but it is hardly the thing that she just wanted to shout out on the first day that she met her new roommates, people that she would have to be living with for full year.
But, there was no use crying over spilt milk. Agnes guessed that it was just one more thing that she didn’t have to worry about revealing by herself now. She would make sure to thank Rebecca for that later.
>> "Ah'm Rebecca."
The dark-skinned woman eyed Rebecca before she finally shot her a winning smile to Rebecca and reached out, taking her hand with her own that was covered in a pair of lily white gloves. The handshake was firm and had just as much confidence as her voice did.
“Felicia Jynx,” she said with a nod. “Pleasure.” She then turned her head to look at Agnes. Dark eyes sought those crystal blue orbs and only when she finally caught them did she smile again. “You shy, sweetie?”
Agnes blushed but meekly nodded, her hands (one of them having magically found its way into Rebecca’s jean pocket) raised as she reached to shake Felicia’s covered hand.
“Agnes Nicholas,” she said, after finally finding her voice. “Violin major.”
Felicia smiled, her eyes flashing with the look of an old, friendly soul. It was obvious that this was a woman who exuded power, but not in a meant or diabolical way. She was a sweet person who obviously had the strength to defend those she trusted and cared about.
“Lovely to meet you Agnes. As you heard, my name is Felicia and I'm a Voice major,” she smiled. “You shouldn’t be hiding like that, sweetheart. I won't bite, unless you deserve it.” she nodded with a grin to both her and Rebecca. “You both make a cute couple.”
A disappointed huff of air echoed out from the lone bed in the room. Both Felicia and Agnes turned to see the pretty blonde just finishing rolling her eyes as she began to put her clothes away inside of drawer.
Felicia, obviously know who the source of the huff was, tilted her head and placed a hand on her hip.
“Excuse me, Ms. Carol,” she suddenly said, “You got another problem?”
Carol froze like a deer in headlights, except her face was contorted into a look of disgust. It was obvious that the two had already quarreled over something that happened before Agnes arrived. Now she was ever more irritated with something (on top of being called out in front of the new girl). Eyes seemed to be boring holes in Agnes and the very visible wings that were now fluttering nervously.
“Forget it,” Carol said as she turned back to unpacking her clothing and shoving the earbuds of her MP3 player into her ears.

Rebecca noticed a hand sliding into her pocket, which was surprising since her arms were crossed comfortably in front of her chest. Agnes was always the shy-type, so the best Rebecca could hope for would be to see her girlfriend's timidness fade at some point. If Felicia was as warm and friendly as she seemed, it was possible the fading could come sooner rather than later, which was good; after all, at some point, Rebecca had to leave.
>> “Lovely to meet you Agnes. As you heard, my name is Felicia and I'm a Voice major,” she smiled. “You shouldn’t be hiding like that, sweetheart. I won't bite, unless you deserve it. You both make a cute couple."
Rebecca was flattered and comforted by Felicia's last sentence. After letting the world girlfriend slip past her lips, she was really hoping for affirmation that immediately outing Agnes was not a mistake. It was nice to see that Felicia seemed open and welcoming, and it was easy to believe that was just the sort of woman Felecia Jynx was.
HUFF.
>> “Excuse me, Ms. Carol. You got another problem?”
>> “Forget it.”
Rebecca's limb's tightened up in response to the immediate tension in the room, her eyes settling on the blonde roommate. It was clear that Agnes and Rebecca just missed something and that Carol was displeased with her living situation.
Carol popped in earbuds as an attempt to drown out the room. Now Rebecca was concerned once more that she had ruined Agnes's first day at college. The poor thing was already anxious about leaving the Mansion, and drama was not going to help.
Leaning in closer to Felicia, Rebecca asked in a hushed voice, "What's her problem?" Nervously, she asked, "Does she have a problem with... you know..." Rebecca left off the last word, obviously worried that Agnes had stumbled her way into a homophobic roommate.
The tension in the room was so thick that Agnes could practically feel it choking her. She didn’t know why but she felt that she represented everything that Carol didn’t like about a person. Whether it was because of her physical mutations, the knowledge that she was dating another woman, or maybe that she just looked poor, Agnes didn’t know. She couldn’t change anything about any of that, but it was unfortunate that one of her roommates would immediately find something to dislike about her when this was the first day that they would ever meet.
Agnes sighed. She really did not want to deal with drama on her first day at Juilliard and had hoped against all hope that none would find her. Unfortunately, it seemed that she was not going to be that lucky. That was just the way of her world, apparently.
Felicia rolled her eyes as she turned back to face them. She definitely had no love for Carol but she didn’t let that ruin her time with meeting her other new roommate. She only shook her head and mouthed an “I’m sorry” to Agnes and Rebecca about the tense situation.
Agnes was fine with letting the matter go but, before she knew it, Rebecca had leaned in to whisper to Felicia.
>> "What's her problem? Does she have a problem with... you know..."
Felicia tilted her head curiously, not making the connection that Rebecca was hoping she was dropping, until she thought about it for a second. The young woman only smiled encouragingly and shook her head.
“No,” she said firmly. “Well…at least I don’t think so. I know she’s being a bitch because we didn’t hit it off the second I walked it. Apparently there was some mix up and she wasn’t supposed to get a roommate, much less three.”
Agnes now rolled her eyes. The last thing she wanted to hear about was some rich girl who didn’t want to be sharing rooms with people. Wasn’t that supposed to be the experience (at least according to Rebecca)? Agnes understood the need for privacy but it was obvious that this girl was judging them solely on the fact that they would be sharing a living space. That was something that Agnes simply didn’t appreciate.
“I hope she gets whatever stick is up her butt out soon,” Agnes mumbled.
Felicia blinked…eyed Agnes…then roared in laughter. It was so booming that it was enough to jar Agnes, even Carol who was drowning them all out with her earbuds. With a grumble she slammed her cardboard box down and stormed out of the room, her myPod trailing at her feet, clacking on the carpeted floor, since she had apparently forgotten to slip it into her pocket.
Felicia, slowly, stopped chuckling as she squeezed Agnes’ shoulders.
“Thata girl,” she smiled wide. “I had a feeling you were a firecracker.”
Agnes grinned in response, which suddenly caused her wings to quickly flutter, lifting her a half-an-inch off the ground. Quickly, though, realizing what she was doing, she lowered herself down and once more folded her wings against her back. She glanced to Rebecca nervously. Really, too much about her was being found out in one day.
Felicia only stared, in shock, at what she had just seen. But that shock slowly turned into a grin…

Rebecca was torn, because her sense of compassion had her feeling sorry for Carol. It was unclear why, but the blonde girl was clearly upset about her living situation, and even if it was for an ignorant or biased reason, that was still a tough situation. It could have just been the stress of the new situation or lifetime-enforced preconceived notions that caused her rude attitude, and Rebecca had a hard time not trying to look at both sides of an argument.
On the other hand, Carol being mean was going to ruin Agnes's first day in the dorm, and as much as Rebecca tried to be caring toward strangers, her girlfriend was priority alpha. With Carol out of the room, the tension had undeniably lifted, especially with Agnes and Felicia seemingly hitting it off.
Even after Rebecca and Agnes held their collective breaths after Agnes revealed her flying ability, Felicia seemed to respond with a Cheshire Cat grin. Now that it was abundantly clear that the roommate remaining in the room was fine with mutants, the Scot found herself grinning as well. "Oh good."
Agnes's belongings were still on their way, so Rebecca detected a lamp-shaped object in one of Felicia's cardboard boxes. The girl focused on the metal device, lifting it out of the box. Since it was a desk lamp, she placed it where it logically belonged atop Felicia's desk, moving the plug prongs into the nearest outlet. "It'll be sae much quicker tae help set up the room now."
Agnes didn’t mean for that involuntary flutter into the air. It was still a nervous reaction that her body simply had to situations. Sure she found herself smirking at what she had said, but she really didn’t mean to come out swinging like that. Instead she was just trying to get over the fact that she was already being targeted on her first day at a new school. Then, of course, the fact that she was dating another young woman and that she was a mutant all came out of the bag at the same time so it was natural that she would get hit with a wave of nervousness.
But, one look at Felicia, and the smile on her face, seemed to be enough to bring Agnes back down to reality. She smiled in response, a bit relived, that at least one of her roommates didn’t have a problem with her being a mutant. After all, they would be sharing a space for awhile and they were just going to have to get used to that fact. It was not really like Agnes would fully hide her mutation anymore.
>> "Oh good."
Agnes smiled as she glanced to Rebecca. Apparently her girlfriend was thinking the same thing, happy that at least one of Agnes roommates was going to be okay with the fact that she was going to be so different. Rebecca, also, apparently decided to push this envelope by performing a bit of a revelation of her own.
>> "It'll be sae much quicker tae help set up the room now."
The runaway paused, eyeing floating lamp, then turning her gaze onto Felicia to make sure that she was indeed okay with everything that was going on.
It took a second, but, eventually, Felicia followed their gazes and jumped a little when she noticed the lamp floating in the air. It took a second, but just as that second came, she beamed wide and proud. Curiously the woman leaned over and tapped the lamp with her finger and chuckled when she was met with resistance.
“You two are really awesome,” she smiled wide. “I’m glad at least one of you is my other roommate, though I’d prefer the both of you over Carol right now.”
Agnes, still marveling at the openness of this woman, couldn’t hide her wide and relieved smile.
“Wow, I’m…I’m so happy to hear that. Now, you know, a lot of people are happy when they seem me walking down the street,” she said as she turned her bac to Felicia to show her the iridescent wings that she possessed.
Felicia scoffed at what Agnes said and shook her head.
“Well, first of all, honey, you need to get over what other people think. Just be yourself! Why waste the time?” she said firmly. “And, second of all, you aren’t the only one ‘different’ in this room. I’m sure that Red and I will have your back,” she said as she nodded to Rebecca, almost as if she were promising to look over Agnes, also hinting that there was something different about her as well.
Agnes tilted her head as she eyed Felicia closely, homing in on that last phrase that she had said.
“Different?” she inquired.
Felicia smiled knowingly as she looked at both the girls out of the corner of her eye. Casually she lifted one of her gloved hands and, carefully, removed the covering revealing her flat, smooth palm. It looked just like any other palm, except for a rather strange tattoo, a symbol that looked to be jutting out in several directions, pointed and with no symmetry what so ever; it looked like chaos.
“There’s a reason my family name is Jynx,” she beamed, winked and waved them further into the room. “Come on, Agnes” she said as she began to slip the glove back on. At that moment a push cart appeared at their door where a young man, one of the workers from downstairs, smiled and showed Agnes her things. Such excellent time. “I’ll give you the grand tour of our side of the room…”
Agnes nodded, and turned to smile at Rebecca. Leaning over, she kissed her softly on her cheek and turned follow behind Felicia so that she could she where she would be sleeping from now on….

It was obvious that Rebecca would be leaving Agnes in good hands after three minutes with Felicia. Not only was the darker-skinned roommate welcoming and warm, but she seemed like the perfect person to remind Agnes that she should always be confident. Clearly confidence was not an issue with a girl who had such a powerful personality.
Along with all the other evidence, Felicia's vague comments about the marking on her hand implied more to the girl than met the eye. Was Felicia a fellow mutant? That certainly could not hurt Agnes's new living situation, giving her some familiarity and a new friend to relate to.
Still, there was a third girl in the room, and regardless of how well Agnes and Felicia got along, Carol was going to factor in to Agnes's college experience. Agnes kissed Rebecca's cheek, which triggered an uncontrollable smile. "Um, Ah'll be right back. Ah think Ah remember passing by a bathroom in the hall. Ah'll be right back," she added, nonchalantly.
Once Rebecca was in the hallway, she continued on past new students looking for their rooms. In truth, Rebecca did not have the pressing need to use the bathroom, but she was looking for something. Sure enough, she ended up stumbling upon a lounge area branching of the hall, and as she expected, Carol was sitting on a couch with her buds in, reading a book.
Now that she was within proximity of the perturbed roommate, Rebecca realized she had no plan past that point. In a sink-or-swim decision, Rebecca sat on the couch next to Carol. Not sure if she would be heard over her music, Rebecca asked, "Sae are you excited for your first year?" She quickly considered that her question might be stupid or shrugged off, so she asked as though she had not noticed the book earlier. "Ooo, what book are you reading?" Maybe Rebecca could use her affinity for literature to her advantage in the situation.
Agnes marveled at the sight that was on Felicia’s hand. She was not sure what it meant at first, whether it was just a cool tattoo or it was something to do with a mutation (which seemed to be what Felicia was implying). Agnes found herself at a loss for words as the young woman turned to slip the glove back on and started to finish unpacking a few more of her belongings.
The young violinist opened her mouth to say something, maybe inquiry a little more about the tattoo but a movement by Rebecca drew her attention away. She turned and found Rebecca smiling the brightest smile she had ever seen. It was such a beautiful sight…

Agnes nodded encouragingly and let Rebecca dash out of the room. Once she was gone, she turned back to Felicia as she began to unpack some of her clothes, noting that there were more gloves, gloves that seemed suited for every occasion. It was obvious, now, that she had some mutation.
With silent footfalls she crept a little closer, eyeing the bunk bed she would be sleeping in.
“Um, I can take the top bunk, if you like?” Agnes said quietly. Quickly her wings began to beat and caused her to hover up from the ground. She moved closer to the bunk and sat down gently at the edge of the mattress, smiling down at Felicia.
Felicia, having seen the whole event unfold, smiled wide. Her eyes danced with the iridescent light that shimmered through Agnes’ wings.
“Sounds good to me, Agnes.” She nodded.
Agnes smiled and surveyed the room. Out of the corner of her eyes she noted that Felicia was adjusting one of the gloves on her hands. She tilted her head as she leaned down, lowering her voice just a bit since she wasn’t sure how open Felicia was about her powers.
“S-So…are you…different?” she asked carefully. “I mean…you…have a lot of gloves. And that tattoo…”
Felicia looked up to Agnes with a twinkle in her eye. With a confirmed nod, she began to explain…

Carol sat, quietly in the lounging area of the 15th floor, pouring over one of her textbooks. Just by the body position alone, it was obvious that she was not to be spoken to. She just exuded this aura that seemed to be the complete opposite of her roommates. While Felicia gave off a sense of warmth and confidence, Carol’s aura was just filled by this forced that pushed away anyone that dared to get too close to her. This was a woman of chilly presence and who obviously wanted to be left alone.
Unfortunately, not everyone can sense these things.
Earbuds in her ears, textbook in hand, legs curled up underneath her as she sat on the plushy seat, she caught the movement of red hair out of the corner of her eye. At first she thought it was simply continue by, but Carol soon felt the presence of someone else standing far too close to her. Then they had the audacity to sit so close!
She pulled away a little bit and kept focused on her book….
>> "Sae are you excited for your first year? Ooo, what book are you reading?"
She rolled her eyes. The title of the book on the cover was very blatant and said Classical Ballet Technique by Gretchen Warren. What should she dignify that question with an answer when it was so clearly seen. She shook her head and continued her ignoring attempts but the simply refusal of her neighbor to move was quickly grading on her nerves.
Another glance, and the woman was still there. The same one that walked in with her third roommate. Eyes resting back upon the wall of text in her book, she sighed as she muttered in a barely audible voice.
“Please leave me alone,” she muttered with as much calmness as she could express. “Go back to your girlfriend and stay with the freaks, please.”
