The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Rebecca listened to Donovan's lecture, doing her best not to let the onslaught of numbers cause her head to spin. She was probably going to be a better student if she was not dealing with dizziness from her high degree of ineptitude.
To be honest though, much of what Donovan was saying made sense to her because it was accompanied with demonstrations on paper so she could follow along. Being able to watch the numbers was convenient because if she was just listening to him rattle them off, they were going to go through one ear and out the other, spending no time sight-seeing in her brain.
What was more interesting to her were the little drawings Donovan added to the paper at random intervals during the lesson. Even when he was talking and not writing, her eyes remained on the paper, curious to see the next addition to the cartoon cast.
>> We'll stop here so you can tell me if you're lost."
Trying to catch the comedic timing while it was hot, she looked up and gave Donovan a joyous, toothy smile. "Ah'm lost!
Giggling to herself at what was probably an unfunny joke to anyone but her, she added, "Actually, in all honesty, Ah think Ah'm getting the idea. Seeing you demonstrate it kinda gives me a template." If she could remember his process, logically she could use it from then on, plugging new numbers into it.
Not that she was trying to lead them away from her dreaded nemesis, Math, but Rebecca could not just ignore her most blatant question. Pointing to the page, she smirked and asked, "Sae were you jist settling on giving me a math lesson AND an art class, or what?" It was peculiar behavior, albeit entertaining peculiar behavior.
Donovan waited patiently as he waited for Rebecca to respond to his question, and almost immediately without missing a beat she grinned at him and informed the man that she was indeed, lost.
McCalaghan's folowing expression was one of slight exasperations, being that from his percetption, this was put in a way so simple that even a chimp could understand. Then again, this was coming from the guy who couldn't write a complete sentence without butchering the spelling of at least half of the words written out. But she then went on to explain that she did indeed begin to get the idea by having it written out, which itself was relief. The man would just have to come up with a different method of approaching the explanation. He let out a small chuckle at the joke overall and gave her a friendly smile.
At the point of her asking about math AND art, Donovan was somewhat confused as to what she meant. The young man really wasn't used to talking to people his own age and had to stop himself from more math and simply inquire, "umm.... what?" was the first thing that came dumbly out of his mouth. After another moment he shook his head vigorously and then asked again more clearly, "I'm sorry, what did you mean?"

It took a moment before Rebecca understood what Donovan was confused by. It would seem her joke soared over the head of the young man. There was something about having a joke miss its mark entirely that left Rebecca feeling kind of silly.
In an attempt to get them both back on the same page, she pointed directly at one of his cartoon figures. "These little drawings. They're nae part of the math problem, right?" A second joke that hopefully would be better received.
Rebecca shook her head, just about ready to give up. "Nevermind me, it was a silly question," she assured, laughing off her awkward moment.
When Rebecca pointed out to Donovan that he had drawn the little characters, realization crossed his face, followed with relief that he now got the joke. "Oh THOSE, okay....." Donovan said in a manner to display his realization clearly. "That's just a habit, kept my pen occupied when I didn't have anything left to write at that exact moment."
Donovan, honestly, would take feeling silly over feeling stupid any day. And frankly not getting a joke doesn't make one feel like the smartest guy in the city.
As Rebecca began to laugh off the momentary awkwardness brought on by the joke, McCalaghan joined in. After the laughter itself had concluded Donovan felt like some of the tension had eased.
After another while Donovan caught a peek at a clock and realized just what time it actually was, and that he would need to be headed to his place soon. The man heaved out a great breath before saying, "well it's getting to be that time of day where people start heading home if they live as far as I do," at this point the mutant ripped out a piece of paper from his notebook and began jotting down some info, "if you ever want more free tutoring, here's how to get ahold of me, drop a line or ask around any time." he said as the note's recording concluded and he passed it over to Grey.

The drawings made more sense when they were explained as a habit. It was probably something he picked up when he was younger, and she was more and more comfortable with assuming that it was an almost involuntary reaction for him.
She smiled, glad he seemed to be laughing with her. "Interesting talent. Pretty fair multitasking! If Ah tried that, Ah'd probably end up accidentally writing the word Ah was saying." Rebecca could not speak and type at the same time without doing that, so what were the odds she could do something like doodle and still talk?
It was a little disappointing for Rebecca to hear that her new tutor and potential new friend had to make his exit, but not everyone lived a ten minute bus ride away from the library. "Aww, shame! Ah well, Ah'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon enough!" As in her next math assignment, and probably the one after that, continuing in a predictable pattern.
Donovan gave Rebecca his number on a paper, and Rebecca responded like the product of her generation and pulled out her phone, (which was odd considering she was not some big technophile back in Scotland.) She inputted the number under the name "Donny" (because he was not going to see it anyway.) "Thank you... and Ah'll jist... text you sae you get my number!" Rebecca sent a text saying "thanks for everything! -Becca " to the number Donovan gave her.
The girl held an outstretched hand out seeking a farewell handshake. "It was nice meeting you, Donovan!"
