The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aurum offered her a chair, and Riley sat. Then watched as he sat. Why were the words so difficult now that she was sitting here, in front of Aurum, looking at him? This was why she should have called, she decided, then she wouldn’t have had to look at him while she tried to have this conversation.
”I was just...thinking about everything. All the stuff that happened before.” she said, in the most inarticulate way possible. ”And I just thought that since we didn’t really have a chance to talk about all that. Maybe we should.” Her voice was quiet, and it was serious, and she couldn’t exactly bring herself to look at him.
”Because I keep thinking about all of that, and it’s making me a little crazy I think. I’ve been avoiding you, and that’s the last thing I really want to do. So. I’m here. Talking.”

Man. He was not making this easy. She was doing all the work.
Well. She supposed she deserved that.
”I wanted to clear the air. Make sure that everything was fully understood.” she wrung her hands a little bit, nervous about what she was saying and how she was saying it.

"Riley. You're like coffee."
She was like coffee.
"You're dark. And bitter. And most of the time, you're strong. Sometimes, people make you weak. Sometimes, they let you get cold. But deep down... you seem warm to me. And Riley." He looked her dead in the eye. "You know how I love coffee." And ended coffee rant time.

And now. She was coffee.
And she was dark. And bitter.
Was this supposed to be a compliment? Because Aurum was really doing a kind of terrible job. But he got better as time went on, and in the end he said he loved coffee. And she was like coffee.
Was it worth it to get offended about the things he’d said, when they were true? When he realized what he was getting himself into and still wanted to forge forward?
No. Not really. He was looking her right in the eyes in that way he had that made her warm from head to toe. It was impossible to lie to someone when they looked at you so directly.
Riley nodded.
”It’s just a lot for me. Nobody has ever said that to me before, and it’s hard for me to wrap my mind around.”

They kissed.
Brief, sweet, then over.
"Was there anything else you wanted to talk to me about today?" Aurum asked. He didn't scoot away, just yet. "Or, maybe you wanted to go out somewhere?"
Ami had free reign of the kitchen. It was unlikely he would be getting his kitchen back any time soon.

Was there anything else she wanted to talk about?
Riley sighed, if there had been, she didn’t remember it now. Why was she so weak against Aurum’s logic and his charm?
Maybe that was how it was supposed to be. And it worked well, at least until she was away from him and the doubts were able to creep their way back in.
”I didn’t have any plans. I feel kind of silly now, to be honest.”

Yeah. It was impossible to have crazy amounts of doubt when Aurum was with her, holding her hand and telling her that everything was going to be okay. Maybe they’d try this conversation over the phone one day, when he wasn’t there to look her in the eyes or kiss her. Those things were utterly counterproductive when it came to making him understand her worries.
Wherever they were going, was a surprise, and Riley trusted Aurum in this. He knew about food, and he’d never failed her yet.
As they passed through the kitchen, Ami told them to get a room and Riley shot her a grin over her shoulder.

"No problem." Also, ick.
She hoped that didn't mean what Riley had made it sound like it meant.

Vroom vroom went the motorbike through New York city. Screech. Park. Sound effects.
They found the restaurant. Aurum -had not- made Riley close her eyes.
If she looked, she could easily see that it was an Asian restaurant. But they didn't linger long enough to check out signs or front windows. Into the place, they went.
Inside, there was a counter behind which stood a balding Asian man with a giant grin and an even larger knife. Upon further examination, the counter was not only a counter. There was also space to make food.
"Hey, Hiro! How are ya?" Aurum smiled.
"Good, good." Hiro replied, dutifully working on a married couples' fish.
Aurum pulled up to the counter and sat down. He waited for the man to serve the couple, then introduced his guest. "This is Riley." He insisted.
The man understood perfectly. "Pretty woman deserves delicious fish."
"Exactly."
The guy got to cooking, without asking what they wanted. Aurum looked to Riley confidently. "Don't worry about ordering. He's good at figuring out exactly what you want." Or exactly what you need.

Boy, Riley liked riding a motorcycle. Then again, maybe she just liked riding a motorcycle with Aurum. If anyone had asked her, she’d have said the ride was over too fast...even if it was cold outside.
They stopped in front of a restaurant and Riley followed Aurum in, wondering exactly what kind of Asian cuisine they were in for. Like she’d said to herself earlier, Aurum knew what he was doing.
And wow. That guy had a huge knife. That he was using to make sushi.
Riley liked sushi...
Aurum introduced her to the chef, and after the compliment she decided that she vastly approved of this restaurant.
Aurum instructed her to simply let the chef choose and Riley grinned.
