The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

And now Kealey was confused…and embarrassed…and more confused. The whole “Maya/Gawain” thing had been explained to her before, but this new take on it was something else altogether. Somehow when Maya had been with Ami at Thanksgiving, none of this had occurred to Kealey.
It gave her a moment’s pause while she thought.
What would she do in that situation? Was something like that enough to make you stop caring about someone, or to qualify the caring for certain days?
That made no sense whatsoever. As for the rest. Well. She’d just have to see what else Ami had to say. If the worst she’d done was do some poking around for information, and hate boys for a while…they’d be okay. Otherwise…there really wasn’t an otherwise until it happened…then Kealey would deal.
"So mad." She repeated. "And I didn't even know Maya was his sister at first." That had been scary. So scary. "I thought he'd cheated on me. With some girl. Who was in his room at the mansion. When I went there to confront him after reading the background check. And I nearly left, then and there. But I didn't."
And it was lucky she hadn't.
"She tried to get rid of me. Told me Gawain was no-good. Did everything in her power to get me to go the hell away. Was a complete bitch." She paused. Then smiled. "It was a trying time, with what she was saying about him being a womanizer and all this stuff. I told her to have him call me. Almost told her to go to hell. And, I won. Because the next day, Gawain showed up in my bedroom while I was changing. And after I slapped him and got dressed, we had a talk."

The story continued…and it was a good story. One of those cute ones that could probably have been made into a romantic comedy. Mirror had tried to get Ami to go away, but Ami had persisted and won the prize. A boyfriend. Who was sometimes a girlfriend. The whole thing was almost too outlandish to believe. Then again…so were mutants and adapteds and pretty much everything in New York.
And oh wow. He’d shown up in Ami’s room while she was dressing, before they were dating? Kealey resisted the urge to interrupt the story with an ‘atta girl’ for the slap to the face and let her young companion finish.
”What did you decide when you talked?” she asked. ”And he definitely deserved the slap. So if you felt bad about that before…you shouldn’t.”
"Oh. You misunderstood." Amelia smiled. "About most everything, actually." She raised her slapping hand confidently. "No regrets." And lowered it. "We didn't talk about us that day."
The smile faded slightly. This was a more serious topic, and deserved a serious face.
"Why he'd vanished. What he'd been up to. I don't think he'd actually want me sharing all of that, actually. But... it all wound up making him feel terrible. Lucky for him, I was there. I helped him through it. Helped comfort him. Guy needed hugs." She stated the last line simply, with a shrug.
When a guy needed hugs, nothing and nobody was going to stop them.
"The next day, I called him up to spend the day together. I got Maya." More seriousfacing. This face had to convey the severity of the whole situation. "Said he didn't have his phone. Said I wouldn't be able to reach him. Now, I am an Ace Detective, Kealey. Somethings about what Maya had said and did in this and the last conversation had made me a bit iffy on her story. And so."
She baited the hook for Kealey to bite. To ask more.

And take the bait Kealey did. Even if she knew how the story had to end, and even if there were probably a few things she could have interjected. About hugs mostly. Ami’s anticipation to finish the story was making the blond impatient though. So she simply took the bait and waited.
"I asked her to go clothing shopping with me." Amelia replied with a tiny smirk.
Clothing shopping. It was a very useful tool, sometimes. In learning peoples' true natures. Or bonding. Or whatever.
"I think we were kind of playing a game of chicken. Him lying to me. Me, playing detective, and testing him to see how Maya would react. I had that hunch, see? That Maya was more than just his 'sister'. She'd used my nickname, without ever meeting me, yet didn't know me. And she talked like Gawain. And Gawain was only available on certain days, her the others. It was all just shifty. So... I tested her."
Tested her how?
"I, uh. Shared a changing room with her. And while we were both changing, and trying on new clothes, I tried to get a dialogue going about setting her up with boys."

Kealey had to smirk a little in response to Ami’s story…and a small part of her wanted to give Gawain a stern talking-to about how one does not abuse ones powers when it is to ones advantage to do so. Sharing a dressing room. Honestly.
Ami too though…she’d orchestrated the whole scheme, and sleuthed out the finer details of Mirror’s mutation. Kealey had to hand it to Aurum’s little sister, that had been sly. How old was she again?
”I’ll bet that went over well.” she said, when Ami got to the part about how she’d tried to set Maya up with boys.
"You know... she's probably the prettiest girl I've ever met. Just needed to mention that." Amelia said. She smiled. "So. As we were standing there. Her, in shock. Me, conspiring... she came out. Then got scared, and tried to go. Through the mirror. To flee. And I did something.... I don't know what I was thinking there... So, I'd like to outline it as best I can now, right here, in front of you. My witness. Here goes:"
"Worry. Fear. Nerves."
The first gamut came out of her mouth with similar echoes in her heart. Like a flurry of blows at the start of a fight.
"Certainty. Logic-backed certainty that I was right."
Another punch. Amateur sleuthing, 101. It paid to be clever.
"Hope that I was right. The knowledge that I might not be. The desire to throw caution to the wind and experiment. To test my hypothesis. To either prove, or disprove it."
Jab jab jab. Swing! And now, the killing blow.
"And Kealey. It all came down to science."
Basic science, really. Just your basic old teenager's experiment.
"I kissed Maya, after telling her not to go. With no idea if I was right or wrong. I kissed her. And she kissed me. And I swear to God, if Mirror hadn't confessed then and there, I'd have murdered him. He wasted enough of my time trying to avoid that topic, and escape detection. And lucky for him, I figured it out. But then, there I was. And this is the stupid thing I did, Kealey."
She dulled the smile gravely.
"I kissed a girl, and I liked it. I went after Gawain, and I got him. Went after Maya, got her. Decided then and there that I was OK with it. Kissing her. Kissing him. That I'm okay with a lot of things." She performed a pitch-perfect Aradia stare. "And I decided that it was illogical to date just Gawain, and unfair to him to exclude Maya. So I did not. And now I have him. And I'm very happy about that." One might even say she 'loved' him. Hell, she'd get to it when she was less busy! Or now. "I guess I love him. And I love Maya equally. But now that I've got them... well..."
Okay. Here's where she got to end the emotional roller coaster she had most obviously given Kealey a ride on, with a jarring crimson flush.
A crimson flush, by the way, is somewhere between a blush and a downward spiral in a roller coaster, going so fast you have no option but to hurl over the side. That imagery was gross.
"I'm not sure if it's too soon... to do with him... what I'm considering doing." She bowed her head.
"And okay. In retrospect, maybe kissing him wasn't the stupid thing. Maybe it was giving him the slightest of blunt clues that come the end of december, I might just be ready."
The roller coaster hit a dead end and flew off the tracks.

Oh man. Ups and downs. Heart pounding ups and downs. So much uncertainty, and certainty, and fear and longing, and intensity. Kealey’s stomach was fluttering something awful by the time Ami stopped telling her story, and the blond had to breathe a deep sigh in order to get things under control. Teenagers and their emotions…this was why she and Shin had moved out of the Mansion. Things had worked out for Ami and Gawain...and Kealey was glad. Very glad.
But still…oh man. The thing that Kealey had been dreading. The blond was still recovering from the emotional roller coaster ride that Ami had taken her on when they hit the steepest dive yet. She’d hinted that she’d be ready at the end of December….ready for…oh man. Kealey wasn’t equipped for this. She took a deep breath.
”People do crazy things when they’re in love.” Kealey said carefully, still a little worried about using words like “Love” with a teenager. ”But that doesn’t mean that love is something to take lightly….”
Kealey frowned a bit, struggling for the right words. ”I know a little bit about emotions.” she explained. ”And love is one of those emotions that shuts other things down. Things like logic, and patience, and better judgment.”
The frown disappeared in lieu of a small smile. ”It’s the best and worst thing about it.”
Another pause for retrospection. ”It’s one of those things that has to feel right Ami. On every level.”

”Talking is good.” Kealey said, hoping that Ami had gotten the point she was trying to make. It was easy to hear the words…but Kealey knew that it was hard to listen to them. Especially in situations like the ones they were describing.
”And you’ll know.” Kealey said, nodding her head. ”You just have to trust yourself enough to believe that.”
Amelia smiled at the blond. "Kealey," she said. "Have I ever told you how awesome you are?"
It was true. Fashion savvy and friendly and helpful and (hopefully) trustworthy.
"I hope you can keep a secret." She added. She got up from her seat, moving as if to make for the door. "Oh. And." She turned back. "If you ever want to gush about Shin, or talk about whatever, I'm here. And, thanks."

Kealey smiled genuinely at Ami’s compliment, glad to have been of help. It was still strange, sitting here with the girl that she’d shopped for with Aurum and having this conversation. Surely Ami had other girlfriends, ones her age who could have told her the same things Kealey just had. Only, she hadn’t gone to them. The smile stayed in place, joined by a rush of affection for the younger woman.
Could she keep a secret? Kealey nodded her head. Sure, first instinct had been that she needed to go immediately to Aurum…but after that, logic had wormed its way in. If Ami had wanted to discuss this issue with her older brother, she would have. Kealey knew Aurum, though, and had a feeling that nothing good would have come from that conversation. Just bloodshed and tears as was often the case when older brothers got involved in their younger sister’s love life.
As she moved to leave, Ami said that Kealey could gush any time she wanted too, and the blond laughed as the study room door swung shut then let her head sink down to rest against the table.
Teenagers.
No matter how great and mature they seemed…they were still exhausting to an empath.
