The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

To say that Lee was on edge would be an understatement. She was always, at least partially, on edge these days it seemed, though she tried her best to hide it from Tarin most of the time. He'd just consider it to be her worrying, anyway.
This was different. As Lee sat in the armchair, listening for the slightest sound that could indicate things were not going well in the back, she was fighting the urge to pace. Even after being with Tarin for as long as she had, she still did not do well with staying still, but knew that if she were to start pacing back and forth within the shop, that would only draw the attention of everyone who passed by. So she sat, trying to look relaxed as she leaned back, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. But Lee could not stop her right foot from twitching and bouncing up and down in the air where it hung with her legs crossed.
And then she heard it, Tarin's voice louder than he had spoken yet, loud enough that she was able to hear him, calling her name. His tone didn't sound upset, or frightened, but it still sent a wave of panic flowing through Lee as she quickly stood up.
Even as she started toward the back room, Lee knew she shouldn't be moving so fast, but she couldn't help it. Not that it was really all that fast, barely noticeable even if someone were watching her, but it was still faster than Lee would have been able to move without her powers.
"Guest?" Lee asked, a little confused as she made her way through the curtain, her eyes immediately searching for Tarin. As she saw his face, and the grin there, she relaxed, at least somewhat. It was only then, when the fear had left her eyes as she saw how calm Tarin appeared, that Lee let her eyes move back to the man who had recently entered the shop. Naveed, Tarin had said his name was.
Tarin didn't stop there, though. He went on to say that this man was curious to know more about her, and this news set Lee on guard again. He came into their shop, not knowing what they did, only reluctantly agreed to a reading after he had arrived, and now he wanted to know about her?
"And when did you finally learn that lesson?" Lee asked, turning a slightly confused look on Tarin, hoping that would mask any remaining worry she wasn't completely able to hide. The truth was, he spoke for her all the time, and 99% of the time she didn't mind because most of the times he did, Tarin had been able to word things better than she would have been able to.
Taking a breath, Lee turned her eyes back to Naveed, trying to keep her expression simply curious, though her words ended up coming out more guarded than she would have liked. "And what did you want to know about me?"
ooc: sorry guys, for some reason it wasn't showing me that Lee posted so I've been waiting this whole time!
ic: "Sorry it wasn't meant to be an intrusion. I was just curious if you had a mutation... " he paused and thought a moment. He'd already told Tarin about Raina so it coudln't hurt to explain his rationality to Lee.
"I was talking to your fiance here about the risks for mutants in this city. My sister is in one of the camps right now, has been since about november..." he trailed off. "I've warned Tarin to be careful. You're lucky you're both still here together mutant or not."
He looked thoughtfully at her and for once it was easy to see past that harsh exterior to the man who really just feared for his Sister. Naveed hadn't always been so stand-off-ish... but with how easily his powers could be misused he couldn't help but worry everytime he had an encounter with someone.
Lee couldn't stop the look of shock and surprise from appearing on her face as she heard Naveed's question of her. He had just walked into the shop, she didn't even know him, and he was asking this? "It doesn't really matter anymore," Lee stated after a moment, trying to avoid actually answering the question. "Mutants aren't safe anymore, whether they're in the city or not, but then normal humans need to be careful of mutants. So really, no one's safe anymore, right?"
But then Naveed commented how his sister was in one of the camps, and Lee's face softened slightly, though she took a quick glance over at Tarin again with a look of fear in her eyes. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "Based on everything I've heard, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, regardless of who they are or what they've done."
Taking a deep breath, Lee swallowed her fear once more and turned her eyes back toward Naveed. She hadn't exactly said that she was a mutant, but now adays being a sympathizer was almost as bad, and she was at least clearly that.

Tarin almost sighed, Lee was starting to border on paranoid these days. Tarin could understand her restraint to a point, especially in public and with a complete stranger. The thing of it was though, that he'd brought her into the room and encouraged her to talk to this guy. Did Lee really think that he would put her into a situation that would put her in that kind of danger? It stung more than a little in spite of the little voice inside Tarin's head that was telling him that there was no way Lee had actually thought about the fact that he'd encouraged her to talk to Naveed, and that if she had she'd be behaving differently.
Tarin saw her thaw slightly when Naveed mentioned his sister, but she was still unwilling to comment further about her powers. Momentarily forgetting the fact that he'd decided to let Lee speak for herself he sighed, "We've both got...talents." Tarin still had trouble with the word 'mutation' he was of the same opinion as some of the others that they were simply the next level of human evolution.
"Lee..." Tarin said, his voice slightly withering, "I've been sitting in here with the guy for twenty minutes. I made sure it was safe before I let him know anything." Tarin looked at Naveed apologetically for talking as if he weren't in the room, "These days I think it would be prudent for us to have as many friends as possible." Again, Tarin turned his attention back to Naveed,
"He was telling me about how to avoid ending up in the same situation as his sister. We really are very lucky we've made it this far, especially together. "
Naveed felt a little embaressed that he'd set Lee off and moreso that he'd obviously caused a bit of uncomfortableness between the two. Then again, Naveed was pretty socially akward for the most part. He'd been lucky so far in the company he'd been keeping with Vibe and Speed but he knew it wouldnt always be so easy. When you power is that everyone has to do what you tell them to you tend to not be great at anything social.
He watched Lee's reaction and was even more curious now to her powers. It was like she was holding her card against his. He refused to come out and say his abilities and so did she. He had to admire that. A theoretical game of poker being played between the two.
He loosened his body to appear less rigid and ran his fingers through his hair to push it from his eyes. He felt akward and looked through the door to the store's front window wondering if the snow had stopped. It hadn't. He didn't exactly want to rush out there in his new clothes. what an insult to Vibe that would be- and she'd never let him forget it he knew that much.
"I meant no disrespect." he replied again. "I suppose we all feel a connection to each other these days..." he started thoughtfully "even somewhat responsible if we're all to survive." he went silent a moment clearly thinking hard on his next words. "There are rumors of a resistance... those planning to break out the mutants in the camp. I've been speaking with them... hoping to break out my sister and take her away from here... but it wont resolve the problem. You'd think with the recent Stalker masacer at the mall and all the things going on inthe city and the park that the public would see how little control they actually have..." he trailed off lost in his frustrations.
"I didn't think you'd learned that lesson yet," Lee commented, looking over at Tarin as he said that they were both mutants. But then her voice picked up a more bitter tone as she continued. "Talent? Yeah, cause it's a talent, just like singing or playing guitar..."
Lee took a deep breath. She really did hate this, after all. She had just, finally, come to a point where she was actually accepting of her powers and what she did to people thanks to Tarin's prodding, and now because of the fear from this Registration Act, she was hiding them more than ever, even more worried about them.
"I know you wouldn't do anything that might harm me," Lee continued, her voice softer. "But they won't see things the same way you do. Even before, they didn't."
In the time she and Tarin had been talking, Naveed seemed to have loosened up slightly. What the man said next somewhat shocked Lee, and she stood there in silence for a moment or two as she thought about what to say. From early on, Lee had heard things, rumours, about a resistance. But she hadn't had a clue how to go about finding and getting a hold of them, though part of her had been glad about that since being part of an active resistance against the government would only increase her chance of being caught.
"Do they have any plans to fix things?" Lee asked quietly. If he were actually talking to people in the resistance, maybe he had an idea how and when things would be better for all of them.
Naveed nodded. "I met with one man, he's hoping to use my powers to pursuade some higher-ups but really..." he trailed off "they contact me so I don't know much... I think it's so if anyone gets caught they tell what they dont know" he shrugged. "But with the way things have been going I don't know if they really have to stage a break out. The camps are coming undone at the sceams..."
He decided to sit down again- they were all in this together he might as well tell what he knew. "There have been some escapees in the camps, and I hear a rumor they may be combining the segregated camps because of so many deaths and stretched resources. The government had already been pressured into integration with the volunteer act volun-telling the mutants to help with community work... and like I said earlier... I think the humans are realizing they have no control over the stalker bots. I wouldn't be surprised if they need to team up with the mutants to take the stalkers down."
He checked the window again "how have you been able to avoid discovery this far?"

Lee still didn't seem thrilled with the fact that Tarin had been so open with the visitor to the shop. She seemed a little snippy in fact when she pointed out that he hadn't learned the lesson about speaking for her yet. She was so bitter still when she talked about her powers and Tarin sighed, "Yes a talent." he said, his own voice bordering on irritation, "A talent is something that a person is good at that few others are. So yes...a talent." Tarin knew when it was time to keep his mouth shut though, so he shut it.
Tarin had been sitting back, letting Lee interact with Naveed. It was the only way that she was ever going to trust him. For some reason Tarin had a feeling about this guy, a feeling that they needed to keep in contact with him, that big things could come of association with this guy. Who knew though, Tarin hadn't always been known for his foresight, there was something about this guy though.
Tarin watched him talk to Lee and the thought occurred to him that they were probably of an age with one another. As always though, the young man seemed young standing next to Lee. She'd always seemed so mature and it still slightly pained Tarin to think of the things she'd gone through to get to this point.
The talk was so serious, so paranoid, Tarin sighed...he supposed it had to be at this point though, what else was there for people like them? There were concentration camps in the middle of New York City. There was no point in calling them anything else, Naveed echoed the thoughts that were in Tarin's head, mentioning deaths.
Something else Naveed said caught Tarin's attention further though and he turned to the conversation, interjecting, "So people are breaking out? Things are starting to fall apart?" Naveed had mentioned something else, "Wow, actually using your powers to help out. Wouldn't that be something amazing to do?" the last was said partially to himself, Tarin had never had a hero complex, but something about the anxiety that was constantly surrounding himself and Lee recently had made him restless.
"Who is this person who wants to use your powers?"
Lee had asked how they were going to fix things, Tarin shrugged his shoulders at her question. It was pretty obvious that most humans didn't want a fix, they wanted to harness mutant powers and use them somehow, like a renewable resource.
Tarin grinned though when Naveed asked how they'd managed to go so long without being caught. "I'm really good at what I do Naveed." Tarin said simply, "When something seems fishy we pull out the turban and the corny Indian music. I'm good at playing at being a good medium. You can tell a lot about a person by what kind of spirits they keep company with."
Lee simply eyed Tarin when he expanded on his idea that her powers were a talent. Yes, she was more at peace than she ever had been before with her powers, and yes, other than the fear of ending up in one of the camps, she was actually coming to accept and be alright with what she did, but she didn't think she'd ever be able to think of it as a talent. Not as innocently and simply as Tarin wan discussing it.
But this was not the time to be arguing about it, she knew. Especially not since there was a third person in the shop with them, a person whom Lee was no where close to being willing to discuss what her powers did with.
Naveed went on to explain what he had heard and found out about the camps, and what little (very little) he had heard about plans for getting rid of them. At least with the problems with the stalkers, that problem might be solved sooner rather than later, if for no other reason than the humans were starting to fear them too.
But Lee's attention was grabbed fully by the tone of voice Tarin used when he mused about the idea of using one's powers to help the people in the camps. Spinning, Lee turned to face Tarin full on, anger and fear flashing in her eyes. "Don't you dare!" she told him, her voice deadly quiet. "I am not going to let you simply run off like that and let yourself be killed. I want to actually have the chance to marry you."
Waiting long enough to figure she had gotten her point across to Tarin, Lee turned back to Naveed in time to hear him ask how they'd managed to get by for so long without getting caught. Tarin explained how they'd managed rather well, though if it hadn't been for him finally deciding that the gaudy looking turban was necessary, they probably wouldn't have faired as well.
ooc: sorry for all those typos in my last post, lol glad you made sense of it all! It was rushed >.<;
ic: Naveed nodded at Lee's remark about Tarin helping. "She's right Tarin." he agreed. "You've got reason so stay out of the fight because she's still here. If she was inside the camp it would be different.... but you have a responsability to do whatever it takes to not get caught..." he straitened himself up boldly, "My powers allow me to get out of these situations for the most part unless i'm faced with a Stalker... but I'd rather be fighting to get Raina out or in there with them."
He folded his hands on the table "I met a man named Darren, there isn't much else I know about him. Like I said- he contacts me- seems to be a pretty higher-up in the resistance... but I've been waiting around so long it's hard not to take matters into my own hands here. I know they've got a cop- he's a guard there- working for them on the inside, maybe a few more."
He listened to Tarins descpription of how they avoided capture and had to laugh. "Well, I suppose that's one way of doing it..." He steered the conversation back to the breakouts. "Yeah from my understanding some young men got out of the camps and the people running the joint are livid about it..." it was odd to talk about the camps this way- like a TV show he'd been following.
ooc: not really sure where to steer the conversation here so feel free to pull it in whatever direction you'd like

The look on Lee's face when she wheeled to face him almost made Tarin take a step backwards. She was really angry even at his thought that he might want to help with the revolution. Tarin frowned at Lee for a moment, two different sides of his consciousness battling against one another at her response. Deciding it was in his best interest to simply let this sleeping dog lie, Tarin stuffed his hands into his pockets and pouted slightly, "I didn't say I was going to run off and get myself killed..." he muttered softly. "I think we've proven several times that physical confrontation is not my forte."
Naveed piped up too with his opinion that Lee was correct in her assessment of the situation. Tarin scowled slightly then sighed in defeat, the younger man was correct. Tarin was lucky that he and Lee had made it this far, he shouldn't be taking it for granted and taking risks that could see them separated. "You're right though Lee." Tarin said, meeting her angry eyes, the look on his face completely contrite.
Naveed had expounded a bit more about the escapes from the camps and Tarin nodded his head, "I have to say though...I'm glad to hear that the places are starting to fall apart at the seams. I can't help but think this is going to end up like every other thing like this in history. Years down the road they're going to be teaching about the atrocities that were these camps in elementary school classes."
Tarin paused and shuddered, "I remember learning about the Japanese internment camps in school and thinking that it was a great thing that we'd moved past such things. I guess we just haven't come that far yet. I am particularly worried about those stalker robots though. They really don't seem to be under anyone's control...and I've heard of people having to expose themselves to save themselves or others. Eventually someone is going to have to reign them in."
As Lee saw Tarin's face fall, she couldn't help but think that she had gone a little too far, jumped a bit much on Tarin's comment, but at the same time, Lee couldn't feel sorry she had done it. She was, however, a little surprised when she heard Naveed chime in on her thought that Tarin better not run off like he had been thinking about. She had all but forgotten about him being there as she worried about Tarin. But Naveed seemed to have hit everything about the topic that she hadn't already mentioned, so Lee didn't think there was anything else she needed to say about it at that time.
Taking a deep breath to calm herself again after Tarin agreed that she was right, Lee moved closer to the table Naveed was sitting at and sat down in the empty chair, the one Tarin normally occupied, as Naveed explained about his contact in the resistance, and more about what he knew of the camps.
"You mean, we've actually got someone working in the camps that's on our side?" Lee asked in surprise. That was an unexpected revelation. If they actually had people in places of power in the camps, maybe, just maybe...
Leaning back in the chair, Lee thought as she listened to the two men speak. "Maybe there is something we could do," Lee said softly, her eyes turning to Tarin when there was a lull in the conversation. "I'm not sure what, and nothing like what you were thinking, but maybe there is something?"
Naveed groaned and rolled his eyes. "Yes, we do have someone on the inside, a two bit twit of a cop..." he groaned. "detective Ruuuupert Kelllly..." He saracastically said his name dripping with annoyance. "not sure what kind of a job he's doing there... Not sure kelly is quite capable of anything." it was obvious Rupert had done something to seriously urk Naveed.
"If you want to help let some of these younger mutants you meet know it's not OK to think they can go up against the bots or save the world... kids today have such an ego and the last thing we need are a bunch of headstrong kids thinking they can do everything." he shrugged. "Just try and pass on the word... the more people who know there's a resistance I think the better."
He glanced up to see that the snow had finished and gave a yawn. "It's been nice to meet you both but I think it's time I got on my way..."
((OOC: Sorry it took so long. I was thinking Tarin was going to post next, so was waiting, and then I ended up losing most of my post I had worked on last night.))
It seemed that Naveed wasn't all that impressed with the man who was on the inside, but Lee couldn't help but be happy at that fact. The resistance had someone on the inside working to bring things down, and Naveed had admitted that he was far from knowing all the plans; it was very possible that there were more people, both in the camps and in the government, who if not outright working with the resistance, were still working to similar goals. That was very good to know.
But then Naveed gave a suggestion for what they could do, and Lee nodded. She had heard, in papers and on the news, about a few of those incidents where younger mutants had gone up against the Stalkers and lost. And that was a way they could still manage to keep their cover. "We can do that," Lee said, nodding again.
Next thing she knew, Naveed was looking toward the front of the shop and saying it was probably time he left. "Yeah, nice to meet you," Lee said, standing up to walk Naveed to the front of the shop once more.
