The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Such a girl. ”Who cares what they look like? It’s how they taste!” The color pink was truly evil if that was all that it took to make someone choose a Snowball. ”I mean both taste like a Styrofoam brick with frosting, but at least the Twinkies are smaller and can survive a nuclear bomb.” He didn’t know if the nuclear bomb bit was true, but Locke seriously doubted that they ever expired. Which might be why they tasted so bad.
He laughed though when Gina commented about the banjo. ”That’s like saying ‘There goes a perfectly good accordion’ or ‘There goes a perfectly good mime’” Banjos weren’t a musical instrument in Locke’s book. Their tone was too high pitched and twangy for him to tolerate for more than a few seconds. Seeing Tallahassee use the banjo as a weapon was just one of the reasons why this was Locke’s favorite fight scene in the movie.
The damaged Twinkies helped Locke. ”See, this is why you use a banjo or a crowbar for a weapon when the zombies attack. No damage to the junk food.” He had read the “How to” survival book for zombie invasion before. Plans had been put into place for such an occasion, though said preparations were actually just Locke preparing for an earthquake.

>> "Who cares what they look like? It’s how they taste! I mean both taste like a Styrofoam brick with frosting, but at least the Twinkies are smaller and can survive a nuclear bomb."
Gina smiled, "But if they both taste the same, and are made by the same company, they would be made of the same stuff... Which means that Snowballs could also survive a nuclear explosion, and look pretty while doing it." She was, of course, just messing with Locke. Just to hear his comeback.
>> "That’s like saying ‘There goes a perfectly good accordion’ or ‘There goes a perfectly good mime’."
"Don't bash on the banjos, bro," Gina chuckled, putting on a mock-serious face. She didn't particularly care for banjos either, but that was besides the point.
>> "See, this is why you use a banjo or a crowbar for a weapon when the zombies attack. No damage to the junk food."
Gina just chuckled at that. Odd combination.
The young lady led Columbus and Tallahassee to the back of the store. That was when things started to get interesting.
See, the lady's little sister had been bitten by a zombie. And, to put the girl out of her misery, they were going to shoot her before she shifted. Gina's breath hitched, her hold on the pillow tightening. It all downhill from there.
A rational person would have recognized that this was a movie, and that nobody was really going to die. That was the funny thing about panic-attacks, though. They weren't rational. As the characters debated over who would shoot the infected kid, Gina's mind reeled with recollection. An uncontrollable trembling racked her body, and for some reason, her breathing was coming in short, shuddering gasps.
How could they do that? She isn't a monster. She's just a girl. Just a kid.
Her hyperventilating made her eyes water, and Gina held her pillow to her face, tucking her knees to her chest. She couldn't watch any more of this. It turned out to be nothing but a scam, but the fear still clung to Gina tightly. Because, such a scenario had been a very real thing, for her. She kept her face buried against the pillow, shivering and crying quietly.

Shoot! Gina had managed to find a whole in his logic. ”Yeah well… you can’t build a house out of petrified Snowballs,” he staggered to find a good defense, ”Too round you know. You need something flat and blockish.” Ok, that was a really weak argument for Twinkies, but it was the best that he could think of on such short notice.
He rapidly became enraptured in the movie again. It helped that Wichita was played by a very attractive girl. Locke didn’t notice at first that Gina had stopped her running commentary. It was so easy for him to get absorbed into a movie he loved. But Gina didn’t make a comment about either girl or that girls were smarter than guys. He would have thought for sure she would say something. ”Gina?” he asked and turned to her.
Locke recognized the signs of a girl crying and trying to keep quiet about it. Mai could, and would try to hide her tears from her brothers, and Locke himself knew what it was like to shove aside emotions. ”Gina?” he asked again, hesitating. This wasn’t fear, she had been laughing just a minute ago, this was something else. Not sure if it was ok Locke rested a hand on Gina’s shoulder, having to make his way around her wings.
I know this look. I’ve felt that way. It’s not fear, it’s stronger than that. “Hey, it’s me,”[/color] he said, fumbling for the remote and pausing the movie. It was important not to look away from Gina’s face.

>> ”Gina?”
Gina didn't respond, having the dull realization that she was essentially having an emotional breakdown in front of a guy. God, this was probably as awkward as Hell for him. Her own brothers even floundered when Gina got a little emotional, and now here was, with a casual friend, having a panic-attack. Embarrassing.
>> "Gina?"
Gina tried to stop trembling, tried to calm the shuddering breaths, and tried to stop that wretched crying without avail. A hesitant hand found its way to Gina's back, and Gina winced. It only made her feel worse, only drew attention to fact that she was currently being overridden by an senseless fear.
But, it was only Locke. She lifted her head a fraction, glancing apologetically towards Locke but choking on her words.
>> "Hey, it’s me."
Gina shakily mopped at her eyes, stammering, "S-s**t, Locke, I'm sorry. I-I-I... God, I thought I could handle a-a freaking m-movie. It's just a m-movie and I'm freaking out, a-a-and it's stupid."
Even if Gina knew it was stupid, she couldn't calm herself. And she couldn't stay there. She hated to flake on their movie-night, though. The thought of watching anymore Zombieland made a sickness rise in her throat.
"J-just give me a s-s-second, okay?" Gina requested lamely, unfolding herself from the couch, "I'll be right back, p-promise. Just keep p-p-playing the movie."
With that, she took her unopened orange soda along with the throw pillow and stalked into the unoccupied kitchen. If she was going to have a panic attack, she wasn't going to make someone else uncomfortable by having it in front of them. Gina slouched against the counter and popped the soda can open. She took a sip, sputtered, and gave up on soda. Drinking soda while crying was hard.

At least Gina was talking to him now, and Locke gave her a smile. ”It’s alright, really it is,” he said, using the gentle voice that he talked to Chris or Mai with when they had a nightmare. As awkward as it was for Gina Locke felt worse. He wasn’t good with girls his age, he always did something wrong. Now he had to give Gina comfort for something that had gone wrong, and he had no clue what it was. Something with the movie obviously.
Gina wanted him to keep watching the movie but Locke was smart enough to realize that was what had caused her panic attack. He hit the button to turn the TV off. No more Zombieland for Gina. She excused herself and hurried off into the kitchen. What was confusing to Locke was he thought that she was handling the movie fine. Earlier he had freaked out, convinced that because they were talking about guns she wouldn’t be able to handle the double tap rule.
He had a panic attack back when he first met Tarin, and the man had been polite enough to let Locke try and regain control of himself without interference. Would Gina need the same thing? Locke chewed his lip in thought. Gina had admitted that she was the touchy sort, and he admitted that he wasn’t. Mind made up he went into the kitchen and watched Gina struggle to drink. Guilt clenched his gut. What was he thinking watching that movie with her? ”Don’t try drinking until you get rid of that bubble that blocks your air. It’s not fun,”
He hopped up onto the counter so that he was near her but didn’t have to look her in the face. Close so if she needed that comfort it was there, but giving a bit of distance if it wasn’t wanted. ”Did you want to talk about it?” he asked, the same way that a guy tries to answer the death question of “Do I look fat?”

>> "Don’t try drinking until you get rid of that bubble that blocks your air. It’s not fun."
Gina looked up, cracking a smile that was more of a grimace. She did as she was told, shakily setting her soda down on the counter. Locke had followed her in. Figures. She left in consideration of his awkwardness, so that he wouldn't have to put up with a frightened, sobbing girl, and he took it upon himself to follow her. It figured. But it was quiet considerate, so she didn't send him off.
Gina hiccuped slightly, returning to mopping at her eyes. She was still shivering uncontrollably, her breathing was still ragged, but at the very least, she could try and stop crying. Locke wasn't going anywhere. He hopped onto the counter beside her just to prove it.
>> "Did you want to talk about it?”
"I w-wouldn't subject you to that," Gina said flatly, chuckling unconvincingly. Please, pouring your heart out to a guy? She hadn't even told Agnes what she was going through right now, and if she couldn't tell her best friend, why would she tell Locke? But, to keep it inside like that? To freak out for no-good reason? She had to give him some sort of details. But, where to start?
"D-did you h-hear about what happened to me, about a month ago?"

There was silence as Gina tried to compose herself, giving him her best attempt at a smile. She was doing her best to be brave he realized. Problem was that he didn’t really know what to say or do. ”We could watch something else if you want,” Locke offered, playing with the sleeves of his jacket. She was shivering, was it from feeling cold or just that she was in shock? Shock most likely, but Locke still felt like he should give her his jacket. Darn it! He was warm. Still he slid it off and offered it to her.
So it had something to do with her getting hurt. Shot at if what he heard was to be trusted. You could never be sure what the truth was when you get word of mouth from teenagers. Locke nodded his head to let Gina know he had heard her. “A little bit. I try not to listen to talk about people without hearing the story straight from the person.”
It was a good thing he had stopped the movie when he did. If Gina was so panicked after the grocery store scene how would she handle Bill Murray getting shot? Slowly his brain was figuring out that it was the scene with Little Rock that had made something snap inside Gina.

>> "We could watch something else if you want."
Gina nodded hesitantly. As much as she hated to admit it, she couldn't go back and watch Zombieland now. Her aversion to the violence was too much to muscle through. Locke passed his sweater over to her, and Gina accepted it with a mumbled, "Th-thank you."
She slid into Locke's sweater backwards, as she really couldn't pull it over the wings, and gathered the sleeves up so that she could see her hands. Locke's sweater was enormous on her. Gina rubbed at her eyes with the back of her shaky hand, silently trying to moderate her breathing.
>> "A little bit. I try not to listen to talk about people without hearing the story straight from the person."
Gina shuddered a bit. Storytime. She didn't expect Locke to know much, because the whole thing had been kept relatively quiet, but besides talking to the cops, she hadn't really spoken to anyone else about it. Gina braced herself by lacing her arms across her chest and essentially holding herself, before turning herself sideways to face Locke.
"'bout a month ago, I broke curfew, went out for a flight... Kinda like how people walk to clear their heads," Gina explained quietly, her gaze only occasionally flicking up to Locke's face, to see what expression he wore, " It wasn't a one-time thing either. I snuck out a lot, saw what places I could find. And there was this one place, Aphrodite's Garden... it's closed now, but... I kept going back to it. It was really pretty, even all overgrown the way that it was. But, about a month ago-"
She paused, and swallowed hard. That fear was returning. Gina ducked her head slightly, lest she start crying again.
"About a month ago, I got shot when I went there," her tone wavered. Yup, here came the panic once again, "But it wasn't just that... This crazy mutant man chased after me, said he had to kill me because I was some sort of demon. Some sort of monster that needed to be put to death just because of what I was."
Gina hid her face behind a sleeve-covered hand, clenching her teeth against the tears. She couldn't stop crying.
"It's been a whole month, and I'm still having nightmares," Gina complained weakly, "I can't even sit through Zombieland because I look at that girl who's about to get executed and see myself. I'm all freaked out and all messed up over this even after it's all said and done, and it sucks."
She rubbed her shoulder, just over where her scar lay. Gina was pretty sure that she had ruined their movie night, and all she could do was cry and tremble. She was weak, and she hated it. And she had just dumped everything that was pent-up within her onto Locke, the innocent bystander in this whole, self-induced mess.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have dropped all of that on you like that."

Locke listened quietly and patiently as Gina told him what had gone wrong. So she had seen herself in Little Rock and although the character on screen didn't get hurt, Gina had. The movie had brought her back to that frightening and painful moment that hadn't happened too long ago. When a zombie got shot in Zombieland it was usually funny, but when one of the foursome was threatened it was intimidating. He shuddered remembering that day when he went running after Saph into a gun fight. He'd been lucky and gotten out of there simply exhausted. Gina hadn't faced as many guns as he did, from the sounds of it, but she had been the target, not a golem.
"I can't sleep in the dark," Locke confessed, looking down at his feet. It was really embarrassing that he was incapable of something his seven year old brother and sister could do. "And I have to force myself into a car because I got blinded in an accident," he said in a hushed voice, then louder, "So it's ok that you're messed up. Hell I'm still a little messed up."
To think that he had thought of her as a little cowardly a month ago when she said she couldn't watch Rambo with her eyes open. She had faced someone thinking she was a demon, someone wanting to kill her, and lived. "I've got other movies we could watch. Something safe alright?" Locke looked at her practically begging with his expression for her to stop worrying.

Gina listened as Locke spoke, hesitantly peeking out from behind her sleeve-clad hand, and tilting her gaze towards him. She quieted as she listened to him speak. Is that how he'd gotten that scar, how he'd gotten that discolored eye? Her gaze flickered quietly over his face, his expression, and yes, his scar.
Wordlessly, Gina leaned against him, frowning. Why did things like these happen to people like them?
>> "I've got other movies we could watch. Something safe alright?"
Gina nodded hesitantly. She didn't even want to go back in the living room, but Locke was imploring her. And he wasn't going to make her watch Zombieland. They'd watch something safe.
"How long has it been?" Gina murmured, mopping at her eyes for perhaps the thousandth time that evening, "S-since the accident, I mean?" She didn't want to think about her problems. She wanted to think about something else, anything else.
Gina was still shaking, but her breathing was evening out. Her mind still raced, though, and she now had the added concern of freaking out again.

Just standing there was a good deal of difference in the height between Locke and Gina, but with him sitting on the counter the difference was made more profound. When Gina rested against him Locke lifted up his arms slightly, looking confused as to what he had done this time. Something right obviously. He rested one hand on Gina's head and pet her hair. His father use to do the same thing for Locke when he was sick and it always brought him comfort.
It hadn't been his intention to bring up the car accident. Thinking about it mentioning the crash might just make Gina feel worse. Clearly if he was still messed up what hope could there be for her? But she had been open and honest with him and Locke owed her something. "Six years ago, but there's nights when I feel like I'm still in that hospital," Total honesty. That's what Gina needed, he decided, even if it meant that Locke would be killed by his embaressment before he could get his movies out of the living room. "Mostly if my music stops playing, or if I can't see where things are.... but hey, you at least don't have to face the problem as much."
He was trying to get her to laugh, trying to catch her on an emotional break from one negative emotion into the next negative one. Even if he could get her to be briefly angry, just something to distract her momentarily.

An arm looped around Gina's shoulder, and Locke patted her hair lightly. Gina decompressed, rubbing at her eyes with her sleeves. She was quieting down.
>> "Six years ago, but there's nights when I feel like I'm still in that hospital.. Mostly if my music stops playing, or if I can't see where things are.... but hey, you at least don't have to face the problem as much."
Six years?! Certain things still bothered him after six years, and Gina expected to be fully-recovered in a month. Gina did give a faint smile at that. More at her own outrageousness than at the point that Locke had made.
"Yeah," Gina agreed half-heartedly. In a sense, he was right. It wasn't every day that you were under the barrel of a gun. But prejudice was everywhere. And, sometimes, those mutant-haters would tote guns. And she was still at the stage where little things, like horror films or loud noises, set her off.
Gina cleared her throat, swallowing the gunk in her throat. She glanced up at Locke with that same, apologetic smile, and slid free of his hold, picking up her soda can. She held onto his sweater, however, at least for the time being. All of the trembling had given her the chills.

It worked! Locke was quite frankly, surprised. Comforting a kid is easy, because what they want the most is for someone to listen, really listen, to their problem and to tell them that things are alright. Gina was no elementary school student but he had managed to get her to calm down, if only slightly. She wasn’t kicking him out of the kitchen. In fact he managed to convince her to come back into the living room and watch a different movie. Take that Eaan! Locke’s Californian friend might be able to get a girl’s phone number after a few minutes, but could he bring a measure of security to a girl who had a panic attack?
As they walked back to the living room Locke stood a little taller. Surely Gina having a panic attack was the big stupid move that he would make, and he had handled it pretty well. Though it would seem that he wasn’t going to be getting his jacket back any time soon. Ah well, it was a small world, if the fact that they were both from the same area had any weight. He could find her easily enough around the school.
”Tell anyone and I’ll fill your pockets with clay, but I’ve got some Disney movies,” Ah yes, Locke’s dirty little movie secret. After seeing so many kids movies because of his little siblings Locke had to get some for himself. The selection wasn’t large, since there were only a few that he could tolerate to see multiple times. Thankfully there were no Wiggles movies. ”Some of their non-animated things. There’s also Robin Hood Men in Tights, History of the World, uh…No wait. That’s too violent.”

Gina shuffled into the living room once again, her steps hesitant as she trailed behind Locke. Her gaze flickered to the television, which had been switched off... thank God, because she didn't want to take the risk of looking at that one scene.
She sank onto the couch, tucking her knees to her chest, and pulling the backwards jacket over her legs like a blanket. Gina was small enough that she didn't surch the sweater out by doing so.
>> "Tell anyone and I’ll fill your pockets with clay, but I’ve got some Disney movies... Some of their non-animated things. There’s also Robin Hood Men in Tights, History of the World, uh…No wait. That’s too violent.”
"Don't worry, your secret's safe with me," Gina smiled placidly, still rubbing at her face. God forbid she wound Locke's masculine dignity by telling someone that he owned Disney movies, "What Disney movies do you have?"
Gina could handle Disney. Disney movies were happy movies. Even the deaths were watered-down and soft.
