The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Was everything okay? Sure. Yes. Of course it was okay. Noel muttered something along those lines as she handed him his package and motioned with her head for him to follow her out of the building.
"You want to stop by your place and drop some of that crap off first? We can get ammo on the way if you're still interested in shooting." Her hands found her pockets, the hilt of her sword between her arm and waist.
What was bothering her exactly? Surely it wasn't the fact that Aedus was interested in the things she was interested in. That would only mean they could spend more time together. Which was fine. She liked hanging out with Aedus. She liked his cooking too.
Maybe it was the fact that guns were ranged and swords were not. Both were dangerous, but melee seemed even more so. Heck. Even Aedus was dangerous now that he was a mutant that like... turned into lava and crap.
Maybe that was it. Noel kicked an empty energy drink can that was in her path. He was a mutant now. And a dangerous and powerful one. All Noel got out of hers was the swordplay. If he learned swords too, she didn't have a prayer. Heck. Even with the swords maybe she didn't have a prayer.
"Just. Promise not to make fun of my place. It's a rental."
“Tell you what I could leave it here and pick up on the way home. And heck yeah I’m interested in shooting; I’ll taking shooting at a range with you over swinging swords. But at the same time I wouldn’t mind doing both.” Did she not want her worlds to collide? She suggested meeting him. He shrugged. He walked to the desk momentarily. “Hey Becky, would you mind putting these back in the break room for me? I’ll be back to pick it up later. “
“sure Mr. Teague.” The shrill reply came. He liked Becky quite a bit more, she was more enthusiastic and much less whiny than the day shifter that always seemed to complain.
He walked over to Noel again as they left and he observed the pout continued, she finally spoke up with something that could be closer to the issue. He looked at her wryly. “I seem to remember someone mocking my choice in dorm room decor, but I you have my word.” His features changed from snarky and resumed a carefully concerned expression. “You know me better than that. You sure that’s it? ”
He was completely honest with her, painfully so at times, so he expected some of that in return, of course it helped to keep him honest ,that not only would she know, that she would taste it as well. He micro waved some ketch up until it was a solid and ate it to get an idea of what she went through.
Did she make fun of his decor? She honestly didn't remember... "Uh, well, I think you could beat me up even without learning to use a sword." Or maybe fry her up was more appropriate? "What exactly triggers your super nova state?" Noel chewed her lower lip as they walked to the subway. Power discussions weren't all that uncommon on the underground these days. Not all of them true.
Noel preferred to stand. Her sword wasn't the most conducive to sitting.
She skipped the ammo shop and pulled them both off at the stop nearest to the gym. If they were going shooting, the range would sell some to them at a higher price. She wasn't even sure if they would get to go if Aedus wanted to play swords with Sebastian.
“I wouldn’t lay a hand on you! If you’d rather I put my sword on the wall at home, I will. I just thought it’d be interesting to learn.” God he hoped this guy didn’t have a horn sticking out of his forehead. He said surprised that she thought it might come to that. He reached out and pet her shoulder trying to reassure her. His concept of personal space seemed to have gone out the window after they made out for the better part of an hour.
”So far, A concentrated amount of stress and adrenaline.” He glanced around to make sure no one else would overhear. “In a syringe. I’m pretty sure it is under my control though, I can feel it at my beck and call, like if I wanted to be really warm I could be.. But after the few minutes it lasts I go into an obsidian state for days after that, I’m stuck bald for as long as it takes to grow a decent amount of stubble. My senses go all wonky too, I can’t hear, smell, taste or feel things the same way, particularly while I’m lava. The only thing that gets better are my eyes, everything is in HD while I’m like that.” Was she jealous? Or was she afraid of him…
"I don't expect us to fight, Aedus. I just... every time I start to feel like maybe I could take care of myself somebody steps in to remind me that there's somebody bigger and badder out there. I don't want people to be afraid of me." He had mentioned something about that at lunch. "I just... don't want to be afraid of people."
She walked along like they might be discussing the weather. The gym was in sight so she pointed it out to Aedus. "There it is. Home sweet gym."
“I know how that feels, That is part of why I wanted it as bad as I did, my whole family has some form of mutation, for the most part it is something simple and not threatening, not even close. I think my dad is about as dangerous as it gets and he can make a lot of sparks.”
“I don’t want people afraid of you, and I don’t want you to have to be afraid of people, I don’t want you afraid of me at all. If you want me to not use it, I won’t. I’m going to have to be careful with my ability, its not like I am going to be able to turn it off and on, If I’m in a building, I would put everyone in danger if used my ability, people are going to run terrified while I turn into lava, and then after that I look like a marble statue with lava eyes…People aren’t going to treat me normal anymore… even when I look normal, I don’t have eyebrows, or hair, or chest hair. It’s weird. I wanted to be able to help people, how am I going to do that if I destroy everything around me to get to a point where I’m useful? If I was Evil…it would be great. I could destroy all sorts of stuff, but my genes, they don’t seem inclined for heroics.” He looked down disappointed. Why couldn’t he just have been invincible, was that too much to ask?
His face perked up as he looked to Noel and gave her hand another squeeze. “Thanks for inviting me over.”

Sebastian was about as sick of takeout as he could possibly be: takeout, restaurants, not knowing exactly what was going into his dinner, all of it. He stopped at a grocery store and stocked up on enough food to fill the half of the refrigerator that wasn't taken up by protein shakes and steaks for broken faces. (Now that Sebastian was around, they were going through a lot fewer of those.)
Then he made himself at home in the kitchen. MacMillan stopped in the doorway once, looking like he was about to ask Sebastian what the hell he was doing, but after very purposeful thunk of a knife through an onion and an eyebrow raised in challenge from the unicorn man holding the knife he left shaking his head.
Onions, peppers, tomatoes, tomato paste, three kinds of beans, minced garlic, a tiny bit of vinegar, chili powder, other seasonings, sat simmering in a large pot. There would be enough to feed himself and Noel, and probably everyone else in the gym. It was a lot of chili.
Next Sebastian set out the ingredients for a salad. He cleaned his knife and cutting board, then started in on the romaine hearts.
Chop, chop, chop. The knife flashed in expertly in his hand.
Heh. Aedus. Evil? The thought was a little funny. "You always seem to think in grand stories about people's abilities. It's interesting." She had to disentangle her hand from Aedus' in order to open the glass and metal door. She stopped short with only half her body through the door, a bell jangled above her head to herald her entrance.
The smell of sweat and man and possibly corn nuts assaulted her from the get go. Also... underneath everything else... was that... "Tomato?"
"Yo!" Marius, built like a V with his shoulder and arm muscles so over developed, waved like a little kid excited to see Noel. "He's cooking."
"He wouldn't poison us would he?" That from one of the boxers leaning on the ring ropes.
Noel rolled her eyes and motioned Aedus in. Her next words were soft enough that it was clear they were meant for him only. "You should probably pretend to be deaf and mute for a while."
Calls of "Fresh meat!" and "We've got a live one!" followed Noel and Aedus as they walked through the evening training session toward the room with the kitchen. MacMillan barked, it wasn't even a word as far as Noel could tell, and the heckling died back down to the normal gym's grunts, smacks and hits.
"I didn't know you could cook." Noel grinned and looked really and truly touched. Two home cooked meals in one day? Noel was the luckiest girl in New York. She rest her hand on the hilt of her sword and bent her head at the neck by way of greeting.
"Sebastian, I want you to meet Aedus. We work together and he helped me with my mutation." Among other things. "He wanted to meet you and maybe see some sword action. Please don't hurt him."
He shrugged. “ I think I do that with everything…think big that is. I mean if I don’t know how to do something I want to learn it, and once I’ve learned it, I want to master it. Perhaps I am over ambitious.” That was a sour thought.
The gym smelled like a Gym and had plenty of guys that looked like they belonged there he could easily imagine them making obscenely loud grunts while lifting weights. He couldn’t help but size them up, he tended to do that with a bit more confidence but, but you didn’t enter a place like this and expect to be able to take everyone, or possibly anyone, they were huge and practiced Boxing, a lot. Possibly some professionally. If he knew the rules he might be interested. All and all he couldn’t help but fill like these guys were sideshows at the main event. There was an ancient swordsman in the building that very well might have been the type to try to kill their wife if they found a positive pregnancy test.
Aedus realized what Noel meant by her quiet comment after a moment. If not for the warning he would probably be getting gloves put on him at the moment. Particularly, after a few of the comments made to Noel, but he reminded himself that she lived there. So, she probably got that quite a bit, it put him in mind of Maggie at the pub he frequented. Tough as nails. He let half a smirk rest on his face and let the comments roll of his shoulder. he wondered momentarily if she liked living here? would she want to move out with him, as roommates? His cousin could find them a decent two bedroom at a good price.
Aedus whisper to Noel as they left the main area. “I am pretty sure someone just barked at us.” His tone contained an amused puzzlement. He slid his tongue between his teeth and pressed down. To keep his nerves calm. The hair and horn were a dead give away. It was the guy in the photo… framed pacifist or psychotic? He would have to see. The comment about not hurting him had him wondering at how wise it was to bring a blade at all. chili was the easiest thing ever to make, he bet it wasn’t even spicy enough.
He let the introduction stand, he couldn’t help but bring himself straighter…what could he do ask him if he knew where his wife was. Let him know she wasn’t dead. Let him know the cops thought he did it….regardless, no matter the situation it was intense and yet here was a man calmly cooking chili. What the hell?

Noel was home, just in time to eat. And apparently she had brought a friend, too.
“I didn't know before today that it was alright to use the kitchen,” he hadn't even been yelled at or thrown out. “I thought I'd start with something simple to test everything out.” One never knew with stoves and ovens, after all, if they were going to heat things evenly or be too hot or cool and how you'd need to compensate for that.
“There's cornbread in the oven, if you'd like to check on it, it should be just about done. I was waiting for it to be golden brown.” It had been almost ready a few minutes ago, “The oven mitts are over there.” He inclined his head to indicate the direction. His hands were busy, tossing the salad with his own homemade olive oil and vinegar dressing. His apprentice would know what to do.
“Welcome, Aedus, it's nice to meet you. You're a lover of the blade, then? Are you hoping to begin your studies, or do you already have some experience?”
The salad was complete, the chili was ready to be served. All they needed was plates and bowls, which Sebastian had stumbled upon earlier in one of the cupboards.
Hot pads on, Noel grabbed the cornbread. Oh it smelled fantastic! "This is simple?" Men who cooked constantly amazed her. How did anyone think of all this, balance when it finished or remember it all?
> "Dinner is served."
"I'll grab the meatbags." Noel set the hot cornbread down on the counter without regard for how the formica might hold up under the heat of the glass pan.
The brunette trotted out of the kitchen, hand on pommel, happy as a clam. Two home cooked meals! In one day!
"Come and get it! It's not poison!" She punched the sky in excitement and kicked her heels up as she turned back to the kitchen.
MacMillain blew his whistle and turned purpleish, but nothing he shouted seemed able to stop the curious throng of sweaty men from shuffling into the kitchen. There were 7 in all including Noel, Aedus and Sebastian. 8 if you counted MacMillain, though with the dark look he gave as he walked past the opening of the doorway, Noel didn't think they had to worry about him.
"Can we eat?" She kept her hand on her sword to tilt the weapon up in alignment with her leg so that it wouldn't accidentally trip someone up.
Aedus was so very confused. This man didn’t seem like a murderer, he didn’t seem like a world ender…He didn’t seem like he was worried about a pregnant wife either.
Aedus stood observing noel bounce about, she was excited about the chili, if she liked it so much she should have told him.
“Thank you, I appreciate the art, I’ve dabbled in Kendo, so, I’ve fledging skills at best, but I’d like to think I have potential.” He avoided the question, of if he wanted to start his studies. He never got an answer from Noel if she didn’t want him to…he wished they had that conversation before he spent nine grand on a forge made sword.
Aedus let the sweaty boxers file in past him and took half a step back from the door when the angriest man he’d seen in awhile walked very close to the door way, he wasn’t sure if he was going to punch the nearest thing to him and for a moment that was Aedus.
He observed and wondered if Sebastian had made enough, he grew up with hungry siblings and knew well the penalty for being last in line, He like observing though and wasn’t too hungry anyhow. He fought better on an empty stomach anyhow.
He wanted to have an earnest conversation with the unicorn. That was a good idea right? Come clean to a possibly world ending murdering unicorn. Ask him what the hell was up? then again, Noel wasn’t wicked and she could taste lies. Surely she would have caught something if he was a psychotic. He would have her present while he asked him questions, if it wouldn’t put her in potential danger.
He leaned up against the wall holding his still unopened package; perhaps it was best to keep the sword in the box.

Once everyone had finished filing through and had gone to perch on the benches in the workout room, Sebastian filled a bowl for himself (luckily, there were plenty for everyone, even MacMillain if he wanted some) and found a seat on the lateral pull down machine near Noel and Aedus.
As he ate, he surveyed this newcomer Noel had brought him. He was young looking, perhaps in his early twenties, tall, strong, had very short hair, more a shadow on his scalp than hair really, he had bright orange eyes that indicated he was probably a mutant or some kind of another.
A young mutant who wanted to learn how to fight. How many of these were there in the world these days? Hundreds? Millions? It didn't really matter. This one had found his way here, so this one was the only one who mattered at the moment.
“Out of curiosity, what is your reason for wanting to learn the art of the sword?”
It was a shame that there wasn't a kitchen table big enough for more than two. Though, no kitchen table would ever have seated this many burly, sweaty men. Noel balanced on a weight bench on the far side of Aedus. What a good day to be among friends.
Sebastian started asking questions. He hadn't asked Noel anything of the sort, he'd simply recruited her. So why did Aedus get the third degree? And why did he want to train with his sword?
Noel cared. But not at this moment in time. The last time this spoon had been used? Well, Noel ate cereal almost every day, but nothing she did ever showed up. The spoon seemed to be one that had been sitting abandoned in the drawer for some time and she was just fine with that.
The beans had come from cans, but before that was a fascinating flurry of mechanical equipment and quality checking. There was no meat to torment her. Only the tomatoes and the spices and the actual flavor which wasn't horrible either.
“ I don’t know that I will become a dedicated student, that always wears a sword on their belt, but when certain opportunities present themselves, It would be foolish to pass them up, for instance, how often might one come across a true master of the sword willing to teach you anything? In other words, to get a better understanding of something from someone with a vast amount of experience.”
Meanwhile, I want to get closer to you, figure you out, take your measure, and pass along a message from a wife hidden in captivity underground…for her own good? Ask you about what the hell happened in your apartment or not…decide if any of it is true about you.
He looked to Noel; she was resplendent in the simple joy of Chili, cooked food! Did he need to get her away from here; did she know he was a dead beat dad? Did he? There was too much to be answered.
