The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>“Woooow. Well, don’t worry. If I see that the two of you are hitting it off, I’ll make sure to back off.”
Gemma laughed. It was good to laugh again. She was really being wicked with all the jokes and the banter, but she knew Jorge well enough to know he could take it, and return the favor.
>>“I know we’ve both been extremely busy lately... But I hope tonight will make up for some of that.”
She kissed him on the cheek as she walked past him through the door.
"It aready has."
The restaurant was just as nice on the inside as it had been from the outside; Gemma smiled at the lights and the soft music as they were escorted to their table.
"We should make a habit of this" she noted as they sat down "Or at least, we should make a habit of something. If we keep waiting for a moment of peace every time we meet... well. Mutant teenagers are not getting any easier to handle. Even though... have I told you we have an old lady at the Mansion, helping out?"

>> "It aready has…We should make a habit of this…Or at least, we should make a habit of something. If we keep waiting for a moment of peace every time we meet... well. Mutant teenagers are not getting any easier to handle. Even though... have I told you we have an old lady at the Mansion, helping out?"
Jorge had to smirk as he listened to Gemma talk about making time to do this on a regular basis. He really could not agree more. He wanted to have that special time with the school’s guidance counselor, he wanted to be able to whisk her away for dinner, or a movie, whenever he wanted to. He knew how difficult it would be to commit such an act though. But maybe by at least acknowledging how difficult it would be, they could make strides together for making it happen.
After all, she did have a point. Mutant teens were not going to getting any easier to deal with, especially these days, and it was not like the criminals of the city going just going to start working on a schedule that allowed him a worry-free day off. They needed to make the time for each other, that is, if they wanted this relationship to work out.
Jorge smiled a bit as he looked at Gemma’s face. He knew he wanted this work out and he hoped that he would be able to do so.
“I agree,” he said with a nod. “I will make sure to schedule in kidnapping you on a regular basis,” he winked as he moved his arm around her waist and ushered her, very gently, into the restaurant. “Besides, you’re right. Life doesn’t have a tendency of simply laying down and working around people’s lives. We can make it work for us.”
Jorge tilted his head at the woman in question. He knew that there was only one person that Gemma could be speaking about. He tried to hide a grin as he nodded.
“Uh…yeah…I believe I ‘met’ her. She…nearly gave me a concussion with her cane.”
Upon stepping inside the rustic, yet elegant, interior, he looked around his surroundings. The presence of the two immediately pulled the attention of a host from behind his stand. He was dressed comfortably in an crisp, white shirt and black slacks that matched the color of his slicked back hair. The smile on his face was warm and welcoming as he approached the two.
“Hello, welcome to Persephone. Did you make a reservation or are you walk-ins?” he asked, holding a clipboard underneath his arm.
“Reservations for two, Cervantes.” Jorge replied. Thank god he had the time to remember to call ahead.
The host looked down upon his notebook and, upon seeing the reservation, beamed and nodded to a nearby blonde waitress who was dressed in a similar fashion. Once she had arrived she casually lead them to a nice table that was in dimly lit corner. The whole interior of the restaurant had that same exotic, yet elegant appeal that had decorated the outside. The walls were smooth and clean, white Corinthian pillars were strategically placed so that they were both decorative and yet not in the way. Fresh scented plants hung from the ceiling in tiny baskets of white and blue. All in all it was a fairly beautiful place that Jorge was thankful he stumbled upon.
Once they were shown to their seats, Jorge proceeded to pulled out Gemma’s chair. It was only when she was seated that wound around to his own seat.
The smell of freshly cooked and spiced foods roamed the air but not so pungent as to send away customers either. All of it just had the perfect meld and blend. The restaurant was surely a good find.

"Amen" Gemma smiled. Jorge was getting philosophical, but it suited him, with all the gruff cop image he already had. Regular dates meant more time to spend together.
>>“Uh…yeah…I believe I ‘met’ her. She…nearly gave me a concussion with her cane.”
Gemma bit back a surprised laugh.
"Nooo she didn't!" she stared at Jorge in amused disbelief "... she did, didn't she." she sighed and chuckled "I had that feeling that I was just bringing in one more kid instead of another teacher... one can never know with that lady. I mean, have you seen the powers she has? She could be one of the strongest mutants I've ever met. Certainly one of the most trouble..."

>> "Nooo she didn't!"
Jorge just grinned as he arched an eyebrow in response. The attack had been a pretty harsh one. He still felt that parts of his scalp were sensitive to the touch whenever he attempted to wash his hair. But that fact that Gemma did not believe him only made him smile. That was all he had to do to disprove her notion that he was in fact lying about this incident.
>> "... she did, didn't she. I had that feeling that I was just bringing in one more kid instead of another teacher... one can never know with that lady. I mean, have you seen the powers she has? She could be one of the strongest mutants I've ever met. Certainly one of the most trouble..."
He smirked, still saying nothing and just nodded that he agreed. Granny Stephens was definitely one of the most powerful mutants he had come across, and at the same time she was also the most likely to cause trouble. As he mused before, she was the type of woman who wanted the world to conform to her, not the other way around. And it was not because she was arrogant or evil, but simply because she was set in her ways. After all, you can’t tell an 80-something woman to get with the times.
Especially a woman like Granny.
Gemma then finally just seemed to laugh out loud and smile both sympathetically and full of humor at him.
>> "I'm sorry. I mean... are you all right?"
He chuckled as he reached up and ran his fingers over the top of his head where the older woman had struck her blows.
“Aside from some wounded pride, I think I’ll live,” he replied. He picked up his glass of complementary water and took a sip. He knew Gemma too well. This would be a topic she could tease him about mercilessly for days to come. Maybe that was why he tried a preemptive strike in response. “By the way, she comment that you have magnificent hips and inquired as to whether or not I saw them.” he winked as he took another sip. “I told her I was inclined to agree.”

Gemma chuckled at his comment about the wounded pride; she could imagine he would have that. A fragile old lady hitting the big bad... well, big good, but still big... cop over the head, that was just too much fun not to laugh. The next comment, however...
Gemma arched an eyebrow.
"My hips?..." she blinked "When did she... nevermind."
It was equally funny. Had he seen them? You bet, Granny. You bet. But still, why on earth would she want to comment about her hips?...
"Did you tell her I have kids?..." she grinned, sipping water from her glass "Hips indeed. Sounds like something a grandma would say about a teenage girl..."

Jorge
His revelation about Granny’s comment seemed to sink in. Jorge did not bother to hide his smirk as he watched Gemma sit there, think for a second about what he said, and then understand the gravity of Granny’s words. It took all Jorge had to not laugh out loud, after all he was still a gentleman and they were out on a dinner date. But still…the look on her face was absolutely priceless. Jorge just loved that Gemma could still be so shocked by the old woman’s commentary.
>> "My hips?...When did she... nevermind."
Jorge nodded with a laugh. “Yeah, better to just accept it, than think about it. It’ll only make your head hurt.”
The detective himself was still a little shocked that the woman had made such a comment to him to begin with. After all, who brings up topics like that to someone whom you’ve just barely met? Especially one that you just nearly beat to death with a cane? But at the same time he really was not surprised. She had this older generation mentality that he was more than certain she used to justify her want to snoop or give advice or observations that were never asked for. At least she was a caring old woman. He couldn’t imagine what she would be like if she were actually evil.
Those poor students though. He wondered if any of the teens at the mansion would attempt to called the MRC for teacher cruelty.
He smirked at the thought before he turned his attentions back to Gemma. His girlfriend seemed to be just smirking.
>> "Did you tell her I have kids?...Hips indeed. Sounds like something a grandma would say about a teenage girl..."
“We didn’t get that far in conversation,” he replied with a smile. “And I’m pretty sure, compared to her, the majority of us would be considered ‘teenagers’,” he laughed as he took another sip of water. “At least she’s on our side. Though I’m sure you’re going to get a flood of students wandering into your office to complain about her cruelty.” It was shortly after that that their waitress arrived to take meal orders. Good food, great conversation, together with a woman he loved, yeah…it was definitely beginning to feel like a date.

"I'll take that advice" she agreed. It really made her head hurt. It was just so grandmother-y on so many levels. She had never really been close to her grandparents, so it was kind of a new experience which makde it all the more weird, since she was past forty...

"I know, right?" she grinned "I would have to be on her bad side. She seems like a dangerous woman. And yeah, the kids will be terrified. But that's not necessarily a bad thing." she chuckled "Just kidding. No, not really. Hate to be on her bad side… Jorge chuckled to himself as he reached up and touched the top of his head again. There was still a tender spot or two.
“I dunno,” he laughed. “You can be just has threatening as something being tossed through the air by some old woman’s mind. You forget, I’ve seen you handle a gun.”
Gemma mentioned the potentiality of that woman being able to toss stuff into the air. Unfortunately the detective had an all-too familiar knowledge of that power. All he had done was walk up behind her and offer to help her get into the mansion. What did he get in return? Several good WHACKS with a telekinetically driven walking stick across the top of his skull! Definitely not the best of circumstances to be in.
Jorge really began to feel for those kids at the mansion again. They were going to be in for a treat; especially any of those that slacked off or caused trouble.
But of course none of this was to say that Gemma did not have a handle on the situation there. After all, he has seen the woman in action before. If anyone could handle herself it is her. She knows had to take care of those kids, how to care for them, how to love them, and definitely how to punish if necessary. Thank god for that nullifying field of hers. Even the more dangerous, hormone driven student could be taken down a peg by both that and Gemma’s stern eyes.
Now these students would have to contend with Granny Stephens. He was thankful he was not in school anymore.
The thought made him smirk.
As he looked up at the kind waitress and waited for Gemma to place her order, he took another sip of water and watched her closely. That Granny Stephens, she really seemed pleased that the pair of them were together--funny especially since she had never actually seen them together. She had only met them both on very separate occasions. Yet, judging by the way she spoke, it was like she had seen something in them that he was not even sure they saw yet.
Grandmothers and their wisdom. It had to make him smile.
Once Gemma was done ordering, he placed his own order and had to chuckle as he took another sip of water. Granny Stephens had made another interesting comment…one that had to share with Gemma, if only to shock her. More revenge for laughing at his most grievous of head injuries.
“You know, that old bird really is full of surprises. She pretty much just says what’s on her mind,” he chuckled and shook his head. “She said that you and I would make beautiful children.”

>>“I dunno. You can be just has threatening as something being tossed through the air by some old woman’s mind. You forget, I’ve seen you handle a gun.”
"Yeah, and I have seen you handle water" Gemma grinned back at her boyfriend. Both of them had their own strengths and abilites. Generally scaring people was one of them. They ordered dinner; Gemma sipped water. It was really a nice quiet evening. Granny or no Granny, the kids were safe (probably much safer now that they had someone at the Mansion who would toss cars at the bad guys... or any guys, really, if they tried to sneak in). And then Jorge spoke again.
>>“You know, that old bird really is full of surprises. She pretty much just says what’s on her mind. She said that you and I would make beautiful children.”
Gemma choked on the water. Long seconds of gasping and coughing later she regained some of her composure, and stared at Jorge in disbeliev, a dark blush evident even against her dark skin.
"That... was unexpected" she admitted, still not sure how to react "I mean, I have... umm."
That. Was not how a proper lady behaves. The blush persisted.

Jorge
The words were out. Jorge had told Gemma exactly what Granny Stephens had told him. And her reaction was not unexpected.
For a second Jorge was really fearful that she was going to choke. It seemed that the second his words struck her ears she was about to go into convulsions. She gulped a little too harder, water sputtered out from between her lips and she seemed to want to give herself the Heimlich maneuver. Jorge was half out of his chair and moving towards her when he got the impression that she was okay and coming out of it. Jorge sighed a bit in relief as he moved over to her side and offered her a napkin.
“Sorry,” he said earnestly. “I guess I should have kept my mouth shut, huh?”
There was a small smile on his face as he patted her hand reassuringly. It was only when he was sure that she was okay that he returned to his seat.
>> "That... was unexpected…I mean, I have... umm."
He chuckled slightly. “It’s okay. I reacted the same way.” Only he had not been drinking or eating anything. But he did suffer from a complete and totally brain shutdown the second he heard the old woman’s suggestion.
But as he sat there, watching Gemma’s reaction, and comparing it to his own, the detective could do little more than chuckle kind-heartedly. He watched as a very visible blush appeared on the dark skinned woman’s cheeks and he could not help the small grin. It really must have been a shock to hear. After all, they were both over 40 and here some kindly old granny was suggesting that they have kids. How else were they supposed to act?
Sure they had been dating for almost a year now, but topics like this had never come up in conversation before. Future plans had never been discussed, questions never asked. It was not that he did not want to ask or answer these questions, but where was the time to do so? They could scarcely find time to go out these days and now questions were invading the air about children! Shouldn’t marriage or something come first?
…
…
…brain reboot.
Jorge sighed as he silently shook his head and looked over to make sure that Gemma had not burst into flames from embarrassment. There was a well-meaning smile on his face as he watched her.
“Are you okay? I mean, do I have to douse you with water or anything?” he offered. "I'm sorry. I really didn't mean for that to embarrass you so much."

"I can imagine." she chuckled "Wow, that lady really has a mouth on her. I don't think I've heard a comment like that since I moved away from my parent's house..."
And that. Was a long time ago. Her parents generally did not comment on who she was dating. Maybe they should have. maybe it would have saved her a divorse. Even though she would not have given up her children for anything in the world. But. A baby? Babies, plural? Seriously?...
Jorge was looking at her in a funny way. It was nice, but also kind of confused, if not really alarmed. Gemma arched an eyebrow. She felt sorry for a moment that she was not a psychic instead of an adapted.

Jorge
Jorge really wished that he knew what to say next, but in truth the words just failed to come to him. The idea of having children? At his age? With a woman that already had two grown up kids? It seemed really, it did. Unfortunate Jorge could not read Gemma’s mind and he did not know what she was thinking either. But as he sat there, watched her small reactions, her shy smile, her confused expression as her mind seemed to go a mile a minute, the detective could only smile a little sympathetically. He was about feeling the same way right now.
To be honest Jorge had pretty much given up on the idea of ever having kids of his own. After all he devoted much of his life to work, to making the hard decisions so that other people had a chance to live happy lives. Never in Jorge’s wildest dreams did he imagine that he would ever meet someone whom he would actually start a family with.
Of course that did not mean that he did not hear it from his own parents over and over again while he was living in Miami. He really could not count the amount of times that his mother had set him up on dates with eligible women, simply for the sake of wanting grandchildren. But in the end, Jorge had always believed that it was just his place in life to be an enforcer of the law and nothing else. After all, someone had to sacrifice so that other people could get that chance.
And yet…here he sat across from this very beautiful woman, whom he cared about so immensely, and for a second the possibility actually sparked in his head.
>> "It's okay…It was just... unexpected, in many ways. I guess I'm surprised someone would see me... like a potential parent. I have always been thinking about that as something that has already happened to me."
“Heh, you and me both,” Jorge smiled in response. “I mean about the ‘potential parent’ thing. And you’re right,” he nodded. “You do have two beautiful children. Even if one tries to mentally destroy me.”
He grinned at that last part. Valerie, she really was a wildcard. But he trusted Gemma when she said that if the girl had not had liked him, she would not have tried so hard.
At times like this though the detective really wished that he could read minds. Even just pick up a surface thought or two so he knew that his lovely girlfriend was actually thinking. Because even if the notion of kids was over for them, how did she really feel about it? How about their future together? Did she see them lasting? Was she just thinking about the here and now, at the moment? He wished that he knew. What he did know, though, was that he did love her. He did want to spend all his time with her. And she seemed to want to same.
He took another drink of water and sighed as he chuckled a bit nervously. “God, I’m sorry,” he apologized again. “I feel like I should have sat on Granny Stephens comment a bit longer. I hope I didn’t, you know, turn the rest of our evening uncomfortable.”

Gemma chuckled. "Believe me, if she really tried, you'd be gone already."
Valerie had that vibe about her. She really did. Maybe she was kind of an adapted. Cancelling out boyfriends. But she seemed to like Jorge. So far. There was a pause in the conversation, both parties trying to figure out what the other was thinking.
>>“God, I’m sorry. I feel like I should have sat on Granny Stephens comment a bit longer. I hope I didn’t, you know, turn the rest of our evening uncomfortable.”
"Nah, it's fine" Gemma smiled, shaking her head "It's just another comment. I've heard a lot worse, believe me."
Food arrived; it smelled really nice. Some of the awkwardness disappeared just because of that.
"So, now that we are past the question of having babies... damn. I am out of topics." she grinned at him.

Jorge
The food came just in time. An awkward silence that settled between the two of them was a little maddening. Jorge really did not want to ruin their night out together, especially since it had been so long since they had one, so he was feeling a little bad that there was such a crushing silence between them. But thankfully the arrival of food seemed to stimulate the conversation again…
>> "Nah, it's fine…It's just another comment. I've heard a lot worse, believe me…So, now that we are past the question of having babies... damn. I am out of topics."
Jorge tried not to but he ended up laughing. Gemma always knew the right things to say. So far it seemed as if their night was to be salvaged after all. They were beginning to find the humor in Granny Stephen’s statement and from there it could turn into a running joke between the pair of them. They would joke and tease one another about the subject of having kids, at least for a little while anyways -- at least until they are faced with the subject again and the full gravity of it once more becomes prevalent.
But for now, they had good food and good company to share.
He chuckled at her last comment and just shook his head. He was not surprised. How does one really pick up the conversation after the topic of having children had been discussed? But they would indeed try.
“Well, I’m sure we can figure something,” he smirked as he looked down his plate of food. It did smell absolutely amazing and the atmosphere of this restaurant had to be some of the best that had had encountered in a long time. Slowly the relaxation began to return to his body and he was beginning to feel like he and Gemma could once again share a lovely night together. “So, Ms. Taylor,” he smirked a little. “Do you happen to have plans for the rest of the evening?”

>>“Well, I’m sure we can figure something. So, Ms. Taylor. Do you happen to have plans for the rest of the evening?”
"Why, actually, I do." Gemma smiled at him. They have managed to get through the whole awkward topic without the evening being ruined. That proved how good this relationship was actually going. or they were just really grown up. Reasonable adults and all that. One does not react to Grannys the same way when she is a teenager and when she is a mother of two...
"I am hoping they are the same as yours." she added with a wink. Whatever he had planned for the evening, she would go along with it. Of course. But she also knew exactly how she wanted the evening to end, and it was kind of nice to know.
But as long as it did not involve villains, guns, or the hospital, she would gladly take whatever ideas he had for the rest of the date...
