The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"First thing is first, child must be returned."
That had dawned on Gina too, as Aleksandr had managed to get the child to release her tail simply by gently poking the child in the ribs. The toddler laughed in a very cute way, and his hands went flying, freeing Gina's tail from his iron clasp. In Gina's head, her intent had been to carry the child all the way over, rather than set it toddling back to the parents, hence her hesitance. Aleksandr picked up the child in a most-practiced way and then set him down, facing his parents. The child seemed to enjoy the whole thing, chuckling like a little maniac.
Aleksandr gestured towards the childs' parents, instructing him to go see his mother and father. The child squealed and began his awkward ambling back toward his Mom and Dad. The mother darted for her child and the father watched on vigilantly. It reminded of her of a very watered-down version of how protective over Gina her brother's often were. As the youngest, her three, older foster brothers often filled the role of paternal protector, except they were much more proactive than the human man was-- they'd usually go in ready for a fight if the need arised, spare her second-eldest brother, the most diplomatic one.
Aleksandr reclined once again, nodding his head to the side as he caught the sound of a siren on the wind. He wore a little grin, giving Gina a wink as he explained, "Is still time to make a getaway. But will not be hard to track mutants like us. You might have to fly after all."
Gina inclined her head at him, as if to see if he were quite serious. Aleksandr did seem to be quite serious. She looked skyward, contemplating fight, and then peered at Aleksandr once again. He continued, "Park is big enough to hide mutants. We maybe can play game of hide and go seek."
Gina tilted her head to the side, and then shook her head. Alas, her stubborn streak-- she might have preferred anonimity, but she wasn't a coward. She wasn't going to go run off and hide, just because some bozo called the cops on them.
"Nuh-uh," Gina said in low tones, "No, sir. We didn't do anything wrong, and I'm not running just because he called the cops on us. No, sir, I'm sticking with you." She then cracked a smile, showing teeth this time. Gina wasn't going anywhere that Aleksandr wasn't. So much for the whole "Registration-Act-is-long-over" bit. Though at the societal level there'd been a change of heart, the individual level seemed to still be working through it.

This girl had some spunk. Aleksandr appreciated that quality, especially in mutants. It was so common for some mutants, particularly those with physical oddities, to be easily cowed by the aggressions of other people, especially when a threat of bringing in the authorities was introduced.
The snake man simply grinned, keeping an eye on the family that had called the cops. They may back off, but they wouldn't be leaving just yet. The police would need their account of the story before they could really do anything. They weren't likely to believe the story as the serpentine gentleman and his lovely young companion told it. But that was their problem.
Aleksandr increased his recline just a little bit, listening as the sirens got closer. The police would be approaching them very soon, from the sound of it. So be it. "I do not plan to be going," he replied easily, brushing a loop of tail out of his face and into the rest of the mass on his head. "Police do not frighten me."

Gina nodded in agreement, sidling over closer to Aleksandr, so that she could look at both the family that had called the police, and the distant, busy stretch of road, on which the flash of sirens were now visible. Would they really get in trouble for this? Or was it one of those "just for show" things, where the police just showed up and politely asked the rabblerousers to be more careful around melodramatic "victims".
"I do not plan to be going. Police do not frighten me."
Gina gathered her knees up to her chest uncomfortably. She was too stubborn to leave, yess, but unlike Aleksandr, she was not uncaring of negative attention, particularly from legal authority. She wasn't afraid of police officers, but-- this wasn't exactly the context to meet them in.
"Yeah," Gina agreed, contrary to what she was actually thinking. She smiled faintly, still looking towards the street, looking towards the sound of the sirens. She spied the familiar flash of red-and-blue, yet could not see the police car quite yet. They were so busted.

Another day, another call. Never a dull moment in MRC, even when she was stuck wearing blues. Quin shifted in her seat and watched out the window at the parting sea of cars. It was amazing what a light and siren could do, even in the middle of New York City. Quin smoothed her pants and marveled a bit at how strange it felt to be wearing the same uniform she’d worn for two years. Plain clothes were already starting to feel normal.
What wasn’t, was the call they were going on. Something felt wrong. The call was about mutants and a human child in the middle of Central Park. Hopefully everyone was alright…all too often, they weren’t. At least the regs had let MRC take point on this one. The police were changing, MRC was doing a good job of helping them, but there were still too many guys and gals on the squad who wanted to shoot first and ask questions later where mutants were concerned.
” I, for one, would not be disappointed if this was all some huge misunderstanding.” Officer Archer said as they approached the closest possible road to the scene of the call.

"Same," Ashton agreed.
The police car rolled down the road. As it drew nearer to their destination, Ashton cooled the lights, the siren. He parked the car and got out.
Ashton was wearing blues today, just like the rookie he was training. They wanted to look professional. This was a house call. Whatever the situation, they needed to handle it with care.
The good detective looked around. His eyes hopped on over to the giant snake-man and the gargoyle, then swung back to the family that had probably called them. The family had a kid. The snake-man and the gargoyle did not. Ashton approached the family.
"I'm Detective Drake. This is Officer Archer." He gestured to Archer. "What seems to be the problem?" He knew what they'd said. He wanted it from the horse's mouth.

And so the boys in blue arrived. Or, in the case, the boy and girl. It was a rather pleasant surprise that there were only two responding officers to the family's emergency call. He figured there'd have been at least three cars for something like a giant snake and a gargoyle terrorizing the Park's youth. It seemed that perhaps there would be an attempt at reason before any serious action was taken.
Aleksandr remained in his recline, giving a grin and a wave when he noticed the young man glance in his direction. He wasn't at all worried about this little predicament. He was more concerned for his lovely young companion who seemed to be inching closer to him the closer the authorities got.
As the officers moved off to speak with the family, he end of his tail snaked out from the rest of his coils. Carefully he curled it in a loose perimeter in the grass around the young gargoyle girl. He wasn't touching her and left enough room for her to move around a bit. He wasn't trying to box her in, he was just attempting to make her feel a bit more secure.
The frightened family seemed much less patient waiting for the officers. The mother was practically smothering her kid she was holding onto him so tight and the father was still steaming and making a show of draping an arm protectively over his wife and glaring at the mutant pair that had endangered his child. Junior still seemed to be having the time of his life, giggling and wiggling and generally enjoying the newest developments in his little adventure.
"I already told you what the problem was over the phone!" the father snapped as the officer addressed him, clearly displeased that the mutants weren't already being hauled off in handcuffs. "Those things snatched up my kid! He's lucky he managed to get away before one of them ate him or something! My poor wife nearly had a heart attack!"

Gina suddenly felt quite self-conscious, and grew even more anxious, when the police car rolled up, and two officers-- a man and a woman-- sidled out of the car. The woman had brilliant red hair, and the man seemed to be a normal yet attractive man. His focus honed in on the two, but then he gazed towards the family. Gina might have edged closer to Aleksandr, of which he seemed to notice. He gave a wave at the male officer. Gina went a dark red and glanced away from this mess that had arisen.
Aleksandr shifted, circling his tail around her as if to create a forcefield with it. The gesture had its intended reaction, it put brought her to a relative ease, but her gaze was still trained on the cops and the family.
She couldn't hear what the officers had said, but she assumed it to be something to the persuasion of "Tell me what happened," for the father suddenly exploded, yelling about how Gina and Aleksandr had snatched him up, and the boy was lucky that he hadn't been eaten. Gina blanched, giving Aleksandr a quizical face. Of all the things that they could be accused of, the father had settled on eating the child?
"What a horrible man," she commented, combing her hair back with her hand. She couldn't believe that they had been accused of trying to eat a toddler. Of course, the man probably didn't realize that he was accusing them of cannibalism for, though they didn't look the part, they were still human. Gina gave a sigh, gathering her knees up to her chest, and lacing her arms around them. Even if one grew to have peace with their mutations, there would always be people like this-- people calling the cops on you for doing nothing whatsoever. Gina tilted her gaze back over to the police officers and the family, entertaining this thought dryly as she listened.

Quin followed Ashton’s lead, something she was getting very used to doing, and surveyed the area as he spoke to the family and tried to work out what was actually happening. No guns were pulled, no cuffs were coming out, and despite the fact that there was a lot of grumbling going on from the family, something smelled funny about this situation.
Nobody seemed in immediate danger, so Quin made her way over to the two people on the blanket. One of them looked altogether too relaxed to have tried kidnapping a kid. Most of the time…guilty people ran. Innocent people stayed where they were. Reminding herself not to draw conclusions, Quin nodded at the two. The girl seemed much more uncomfortable with the situation…but that wasn’t necessarily an indication of guilt.
”Officer Archer.” she introduced herself. ”Can you guys explain to me what happened?”

Attitudes. The first thing Ashton noticed when dealing with the people who'd called them in.
The parents attitudes were what you'd expect from one who'd just clutched their child from the hands of monsters. The father was obviously angry at him. For being there. And talking to him, rather than doing something drastic and dramatic to the people they'd called the police on, right off the bat. The mother had her child in a hug that would outdo a boa constrictor. As for the kid...
Bouncing, was the appropriate term. Bubbly bouncing, happy. Not mad. Or sad. Or scared. He looked like he was having a blast. The whole thing wasn't worrying him. This told Ashton one thing. The father's comments told him another.
Ashton swung a casual glance calmly towards the gargoyle girl and the snake man. They'd waited. They weren't leaving. His gut told him something. It told him they hadn't intended to do anything wrong. Kid, happy, parents mad, mutants waiting, and working with the police? All of it could have easily forced him to jump to a conclusion. But hey. Conclusion-jumping is bad. That's what the dad had probably done. And with his anti-mutant agenda, he was really ticking Ashton off.
"You said your child got away?" He asked. Ashton brought his attention back to the family, and focused on the kid. He stated frankly. "He doesn't look like he just ran for his life..."
Ashton was pleased Archer had taken the initiative to get statements from the other parties involved. If either side got treated unfairly in this situation, it had the potential to be a PR nightmare. No conclusion-jumping, yeah. But he had a pretty good feeling that was what was at the bottom of all of this.
The detective dropped down to crouch eye-level with the young boy. He smiled at him. "Tell me what happened, in your own words." He requested.

Aleksandr waited patiently as the two officers questioned the couple. He continued to sit still and smile pleasantly as the young woman officer broke away from her partner and headed in his and Gina's direction. Lovely young women were easy enough to talk to, especially in a case such as this where he hadn't done anything wrong. Though he'd also have to try cutting back on his charm a bit. Laying it on too thick might work against him. Didn't want it to look like he was trying to butter her up and let him off the hook that way.
"Good afternoon," he greeted as she approaches, careful not to use a Russian greeting as he still had a bad habit of doing. His native tongue probably snuck into his sentences more often that was preferable for someone that was trying to integrate into a New York lifestyle. He continue to smile pleasantly and propped his elbows up on a length of tail behind him, letting his lower arms dangle. It would only benefit him if the young woman could see his hands at all times.
"Lovely young companion and I were relaxing and having conversation when child came over," he started, giving a small shrug. There really wasn't much more to it than that, but a little elaboration could only help. "Child came to see us. We are unusual pair. We entertained him for a moment and sent him back to angry parents." Angry parents who were still very angry at a glance.
The child, when spoken to by the male officer, suddenly became a bit shy, as children are prone to doing when a strange adult addresses them. He was still smiling, but his squirming died down a bit and he pressed a bit closer to mom, his fingers finding their way partially into him mouth as he looked slightly up at the officer that had crouched down.
"I played," he began, his words somewhat mumbled and jumbled because of his hand, but still generally understandable. He'd gotten bored when his parents had stopped to chat with someone and he'd run off for a minute. Honestly, how did they have any fun at all when all they did was talk? "I saw the people and, uhm, I went to see, and then, uh, we played. They look funny." Eloquent.

Gina watched quietly as the redheaded female officer approached, none too eager to speak. She was a young, teenage, mutant girl. She had no qualms with law enforcement, she was a good child, but-- she didn't need this kind of negative attention. New York was a whole different animal than Mendocino, as she often reminded herself, she didn't know everyone as she did back at home.
>> "Officer Archer. Can you guys explain to me what happened?"
Her glance drifted to the family and the male police officer as Aleksandr greeted the female police officer and began to explain what had happened. He managed not to lay the cheese on thick, refraining from terms of endearment and giving her straight facts. That was probably for the better. Gina glanced away from the family and back towards the female police officer before them.
Aleksandr had told it as it was, so Gina didn't have much left to say. But figured she would add something in, "We might have freaked them out a little, but we didn't mean any harm... " Her gaze met the officer's, and lingered just long enough, before dropping. She looked embarrassed.

The story told by the snake man and his companion was really too simple to be made up. There was still the fact that they’d waited for the police to show up too, instead of running like someone truly guilty would have done. There was no doubt in Quin’s mind that the snake-man at least could take care of himself. His companion looked shy, and young, and kept avoiding eye contact. The dad was still shouting, and making a scene, and Quin frowned in his general direction.
“Thank you both. “ she said, “If you don’t mind waiting around just a few more moments, I think we’ll have everything sorted out.”
That said, Quin made her way back to the parents and the child. Ashton was on the kid’s level a bit, asking him what had happened and listening as the little boy answered. The boy’s story sounded much more like the mutant’s than his parents and Quin had a feeling they’d be out of here in time to stop and grab a hot dog from one of the vendors in the park.

The child shied up. And answered.
Ashton looked up at the parents. "Played," He said.
The father did not look like he accepted that.
Ashton shoved up off his knees and got back to full height. He looked to Archer. "Does their story match up with his?" He asked.
"Mhm," said Quin.
The detective turned back to the parents. "I'm afraid it sounds like nobody here did anything wrong." He noted. Except the parents, of course. For wasting their time. He left that part out.

Aleksandr gave a nod and another smile to the lovely young officer as she thanked them and requested that he and his companion stick around for just a little bit longer before heading back over to rejoin her partner. That wouldn't be much of a problem. He hadn't planned to go anywhere just yet anyhow. The sun felt just as nice when he was in trouble as it did while he was simply relaxing. Speaking of which, he shifted his coils once more to sun the patches of scales that have been covered while he'd spoken to the officer. He settled back down quickly enough, making sure that there was still a loop in the grass around his young companion to keep her at ease.
Back with the small group of parents and child, the father still wasn't pleased with the outcome thus far. The mother continued to keep some sort of constant contact with her child, occasionally cooing in an attempt to calm the small individual that didn't need any calming.
No one doing anything wrong. The older man huffed at the very idea. Everything was wrong about the situation. He was quickly becoming the one at fault when it was those two oddities that should be getting drilled, not him. Like his kid really knew what was going on. Please.
"You don't really expect a little kid to understand a danger like that when he sees it, do you? Why do you think we have to teach kids not to talk to strangers? They don't know any better. And it's not like those two would admit to trying something underhanded."

>> "Thank you both. If you don't mind waiting around just a few more moments, I think we'll have everything sorted out."
Gina merely bobbed her head, quirked a toothless smile and thanked the officer in return. After all, she was the one who'd been drawn from her office on a bogus phone call anyways. The female officer returned to the family and her male cohort, and Gina suddenly didn't feel like hanging out in the park anymore. She remained with Aleksandr, shearly because the officer had requested it, but she couldn't help the mild sick feeling simmering her stomach.
All the while Aleksandr simply shifted, seeming to enjoy himself. Gina only wished that she could be so chill. She turned her attention absently from the snake-man to the humans once again.
"Ugh, drama," she commented, partially to herself and partially to Aleksandr as the father went off on the officers again. Yeah, she wanted for nothing better than to leave, now...
