The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Two Days Ago…[/u]
“Nu-uh!”
“Uh-huh!”
“Nu-uh!”
“Uh-huh!!” a voice screamed in protest. “I did too get to see the inside of the Mutant Cops!”
“That’s a lot of bologna,” another voice harshly whispered.
In the confines the New York Public Library, a gather of three teens were situated around a table, pretending to look interested in the homework they were doing. The truth of the matter was that none of them were putting any focus on the assignments that they had been handed at the beginning of the fieldtrip. Instead the youths, surrounded by the great volumes of literature, unquestionable knowledge, stacks of books on drama, science, math, history, stories (true and false), none of them were grabbing their attention. Instead the teens were snicker in a corner, staring at a large, open book but reading none of the words.
The nearby middle school was having a fieldtrip to the public library, allowing the students to investigate some of their older collections of books but no supervision was going on. Groups of four or five were scattered throughout the building and try as the teachers and chaperones might, they simply could not keep an eye on all of them. That was how this delinquent group found themselves in the art history section, pouring over an old book of nude paintings.
But instead of their eyes focusing on the copied flesh on the glossy pages, they were in a heated argument with one another.
One teen, by the name of Jackie Paper, looked defiant as he stared as the unbelieving faces of his friends.
“I’m telling you I did go there! It was because I’m a mutant!”
“Naah! They only arrest dangerous mutants. There’s NO WAY you have a power that cool,” one announced, though still attempted to keep his voice down.
“Oh yeah? Well fine, I’ll just show you.” Jackie glanced around, peering to see if anyone else was watching.
So far Jackie had not told anyone he was a mutant. He kept it a secret that he only told his three friends, but he never related his powers to them. He only mentioned that it was something cool, something that would totally blow their minds. What he had not told them yet was the fact that his power was that he could simply transform himself into paper. Not very exciting, but he managed to learn to fold himself into origami shapes. That is the extent of the useful ness of his power, at least until he got trapped in a shape and had to be rushed the MRC offices for help in getting himself undone.
Now though, was the time. He would prove to them how cool his powers were…and they will be bowing before him.
*** Today…[/u]
“They what?”
Another officer shook his head as he stood back and crossed his arms over his chest. “The kid’s friends just confessed. They said that two days ago, the day the boy’s mother reported him missing, that he was bragging about some awesome mutant power. Then he went and transformed himself into an origami crane, again.”
Jorge sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. It was obvious that the man was irritated at hearing this. “Moron. Didn’t he learn the first time? Took us three days to calm him down enough to shift him back,” he shook his head as he looked around the evacuated library. “Then what happened.”
“His friends say that, they wanted to pull a prank on him. So after he folded himself into that crane, they stuffed him into some random book and tossed it into the bookdrop near the front desk.” The officer said and motion to a desk near the front entrance. “Staff says those books were shelved a while ago, but who knows if any of them were checked out.”
The detective could only shake his head again and muttered to himself about the stupid things that teenagers tend to get themselves into. Dressed in his dark gray suit with a trench coat, the man kept his hands shoved into his pocket as he turned to look at the massive amount of bookshelves, most of which were filled to the brim with literature. Many more open books lay on tables, some in specialized carts, others just stacked onto chairs since the staff had not had a chance to collect them yet.
They were going to be looking for a needle in a haystack.
Scratching his grizzly stubble, Jorge pulled his phone from his pocket and began to scroll through the numbers.
“What’s up?” the officer asked in curiosity.
“The kid has been wedged into a book for two days. He hasn’t eaten or had anything to drink or been able to move. We need to find him now and we need help.” he sighed as he dialed the MRC home office. Once it picked up he spoke… “Yeah…transfer me to the X-Men…we have a missing child…”

Shin was working. That meant Kealey was working too. Free time was far too rare now that they were back from Japan, and working on school work while Shin was working on mansion work made things much easier later. Sort of. Kealey sighed and set aside the garment she was working on, rubbing the space between her eyes and trying to ignore the emotions of the people in the Mansion. It was strange, the Mansion was secluded compared to the streets in Japan, but her head still felt extra full lately.
Stretching her arms and reaching for the half-finished project, Kealey had just started to sew another seam when a nearly frantic beeping sound rang out in the room. The blond didn’t react at first except for an increase of speed as she sewed. The seam was soon finished, and she grabbed the X-com that was never very far out of reach.
A few moments later saw Kealey shutting her door and making her way down the hall as she pulled her uniform jacket on. It wasn’t an imminent threat or fight…but this was official X-Men business. Technically still a trainee…Kealey needed a senior X-Man to accompany her…and the person she had in mind had nothing to do with the decision she’d made regarding her garments. Shin was just the best choice for the job.
It didn’t take long to get to his office, and Kealey simply knocked as she entered the office, waving the communicator almost like it was a badge.
She smiled, ”We’ve got a call.” Kealey announced, ” Something pretty simple, a kid stuck in the downtown library…newly manifesting powers...got himself stuck inside a book” the smile grew to a grin, Kealey couldn’t help herself.
”Besides…It’s been a while since we took a ride on the motorcycle…”

Shin wasn't working. There just wasn't much to do. Unless there were new students, or people who needed showing around, a Mansion Greeter's job was basically office duty. Occasional paperwork, followed by a preposterous amount of sitting around. He may have actually been playing Solitaire when she burst into his office. The window clicked shut as Shin spun in his chair to face Kealey, glad to see her.
"My hero," He smiled, then got down to business. "What's up?"
She was wearing The Uniform. He liked the uniform. It turned out the X-men had gotten a call. A hand dropped to the breast pocket of his white work shirt and found naught. He supposed he'd left his communicator in his room. Silly him. He made a resolution to remember it next time. It was always a good way to get out of work.
As for the call... inside a book? Interesting. He could understand why she was grinning. It was kind of a cool power! Or maybe she was grinning because she wanted a ride on his hog. He stopped to correct himself mentally. No. Not hog. Motorcycle. Hogs went 'hog sound'. Shin wasn't sure what that sound effect translated to here. He met her, grin for earnest grin.
"I'll get my helmet. Need to get dressed up first, though. Hold on." He stood. He snatched his black longcoat off the coat rack by Kealey and the door, and pulled it on. He walked past her, out the door, adjusting his popped collar as he slipped by. "Ready." He smirked.
~*~
A motorcycle revved. Sped down several city streets. Made a few turns, found the parking lot. Pulled into a spot and settled down. Shin and Kealey got off the motorcycle. They made their way for the entrance of the New York Public library, past some police-folk. Flashed their X-men identification, and got in.
Shin looked around the area. "Who's in charge here?" He coolly asked one of the boys in blue.

Jorge
Jorge sighed as he glanced down to his watch. He had called in for X-Men assistance for what seemed like ages ago, but so far there was still no word from them. He was now standing with a group of his fellow officers, making sure that nobody was trying to leave with any of the books. So far the staff was tracking down every book that had been checked out that day and were calling people, attempting to get as much information from patrons as to whether or not they had found a paper crane or something weird inside of the books.
Except for the random unopened condom wrapping being used as a bookmark, there was nothing else out of the ordinary.
He sighed as they were pulling out the last of the people. College students could be so stubborn when mid-terms or whatever exams they took were on the line. There were several they found in the book stacks, pouring over textbooks, trying to get last minute research in. They apparently did not appreciate being kicked out of the library at this crucial point in their studies.
“Hey! Gimme a break! I have this essay due tomorrow!!”
“Not my problem, junior,” Jorge said as he snatched a book away from the irritated young man. “Besides, you had all weekend to get this done. Get outta here!”
The student stormed off, grumbling about how he was now going to fail and Jorge turned back to the group of officers.
“Alright men, is that everyone? Staff included?”
“Yes sir, they are all outside, still trying to call people who checked out books for the last couple days.”
“I don’t envy that job. Now, let’s-“
>> "Who's in charge here?"
The waterbending detective turned and spied that a pair of new comers had arrived. Both were dressed a little out of place, one of them, he recognized her face. At first he was not sure who she was, but as the pair of them stepped into the library, he was knew that he knew her from somewhere. The innocent face, the blonde hair, that wide-eyed, “I wanna help!” look on her face…it was too familiar…
The young Japanese man he’d never seen before, but judging from their outfits, the only thing he could assume was that they were…
“X-Men, glad you could join us,” he said, obviously at the same time answering the man’s question about who was in charge. “Briefing everyone now.” He did not wait for them to answer as he turned back around to face the officers. “Listen up, as you all know, we have a lost teenager somewhere possibly in this library. The young mutant can turn himself into paper and got himself folded into a book, we need to find him. He has been gone two days, he has not eaten or drank anything in all that time. That means we need to find him and now…”
He finally turned to face the two X-Men. As he walked up to them, he seemed to be sizing them up for a moment. Why is it that every X-Men he met seemed to be so young? Maybe the youths can handle the things that the middle aged men and women simple can’t anymore. He would not be surprised. As he walked up to them, he nodded, looked closely at them all…then his memory was triggered as he glanced to the blonde…
“I know you,” he said with a nod. “You threw up in a ficus.”

Kealey grinned at Shin, blush creeping up her cheeks as he checked his pocket for his X-com. Yeah…he liked the uniform. But that was not why she’d chosen to wear it. Not at all. Her suggestion that they take the motorcycle was accepted, and Shin grabbed his goat. That made Kealey grin even more broadly. They got their helmets and they went.
Yup. Kealey liked motorcycles, the wind whipped her face as they moved through the New York streets and she wrapped her arms just a little tighter around Shin’s middle and thought about where they were heading. It had been quite some time since Kealey had been to the Main Branch of the public library, and she wondered how many of her old co-workers were still around. She didn’t have long to wait to find out.
The library was exactly how she remembered it, and Kealey grinned at Shin as they made their way inside. The smile faded quickly though as the emotions of those inside started to register.
First, there weren’t very many emotions at all…which was strange. The main branch was huge, and just a skeleton staff had always been enough to have her head buzzing with emotions. That was not the case as she and Shin walked inside, the emotions weren’t spread out…they were condensed, and they were somber. Suddenly Kealey felt a little guilty about the playful attitude she’d had so far. There was a child missing.
As they approached the source of the emotions, Kealey’s blue eyes scanned the assembled officers. One of them was familiar, and though it took a moment, Kealey found herself blushing again, this time for an entirely different reason. The detective didn’t seem to make the same connection though and plowed into an explanation. He introduced them, and Kealey felt the emotional shift in her and Shin’s direction…some of them were welcoming, others….weren’t. Suddenly the blond felt self-conscious, she didn’t get to stay that way long though, because the Detective began to talk about the boy.
Kealey had to hand it to the assembled officers. When the Detective in charge commented that the child had been without food and water for nearly 2 days all their hearts went out. Kealey’s did too, doubly. The detective finished, and approached and was greeted by a far more serious Kealey than before. His comment caught her off guard…he hadremembered. ”I did.” she commented, face still serious despite the gleam in her eye at the memory.
”My feet are a little more wet these days though. I’m Kealey if you don’t remember, and this is Shin.”
While the detective and Shin made their introductions, Kealey took an opportunity to look around the atrium of the library. The place was huge…how was this ever going to work? Emotions were spreading everywhere, ranging from hope to despair and Kealey sighed…she’d never be able to find a needle in a haystack like this….but maybe.
”Detective…do you think you could clear the building out? I think I might be able to help if there weren’t so many people around.”

One man addressed them. Shin looked his way. Apparently, he was the guy to talk to. The guy seemed professional... even if he couldn't answer a simple question.
Shin watched the briefing patiently. He paid close attention. It was a briefing for him, too. It wasn't often he got to work with the police. When he did, he made sure to meet their professionalism with some of his own. Today was a super special case. His pants fit! People were probably appreciative. He knew he was.
If only he could sense people. Then they'd find the origami boy in no time flat. Luckily, that was one of Kealey's fortes, right up there with being cute and being cute.
Finally, the officer addressed them. Well, to be more specific, he addressed Kealey. His girlfriend. And brought up a ficus. Shin arched an eyebrow. Weird time to bring that up. The guy must have been one of the people Kealey had worked with when she had come back to the mansion, an emotional mess. That meant he owed the man a bit of a thanks, since she came home in one piece.
Kealey introduced him to the detective. Shin stuffed his hands in his pockets. "I owe you for taking good care of her back then." He stated. "Nice to meet you. Though I wish the circumstances were better."
He looked to Kealey as she made her suggestion. "I was just thinking the same thing. You're like a human divining rod, aren't you?" He smiled appreciatively.

>> ”I did…My feet are a little more wet these days though. I’m Kealey if you don’t remember, and this is Shin.”
It was not a comment meant to embarrass her. Instead it was simply Jorge trying to remember where he saw her face before. Now he remembered though. She was one of the X-men who had showed up during the Mitten’s incident. He tried to recall what she had been able to do…then he remembered. It was her actions that caused Mittens to go tumbling out the hole in the wall. It because of her that he was saved the burden of a broken back. He was thankful for that.
“Well, glad to hear it. Thankfully, today should not be as strenuous, I hope.”
It was then that she introduced him to the Japanses man standing next to her. He had seen him in the precinct before, at least once, if he could recall, with Ashton Drake. Another X-Man but Jorge had never really gotten around to asking Drake about what the kid could do. Then again, an X-Man was an X-Man. He was thankful for all the help he could get in this case.
>> "I owe you for taking good care of her back then…Nice to meet you. Though I wish the circumstances were better."
Jorge smirked and nodded his head. “Likewise, but trust me, pleasure is all mine to see her again. She saved me from being snapped in half by a giant fist. Least I can do is be appreciative just the same.”
He then turned as he surveyed the scene. The library was huge with who knows how many books inside. If that kid was in one was them, they were going to have to be extra careful in find him…but they needed to do it quick. Two days without food and water was dangerous. He prayed that they were not too late…if they were he was so going to slap manslaughter charges on those kids. They had no right to do what they did.
Finally, though, Jorge turned to get the search on…when the blonde made a statement…
>> ”Detective…do you think you could clear the building out? I think I might be able to help if there weren’t so many people around.”[/i]
“What?” he asked a little surprised. He figured if anything they would need people checking these books around the clock…
>> "I was just thinking the same thing. You're like a human divining rod, aren't you?"[/i]
So, that was the plan. He had to admit that it was a good on, much better than his idea of searching book after book with could take eons. He prayed that the kid still had normal enough brain functions to be found by the young X-Man. He nodded in agreement.
“Okay, but, if you don’t mind, I’d rather stay in the loop with the pair of you.” he said as he walked over to the gathered officers. “Change of plans. The X-Men can find the kid, but in order to sniff him out, they need the building empty. Everyone print out your pages of recent check-outs, go outside and continue calling from cell phones. There’s no guarantee he is in here and I don’t want time wasted.” he said as he turned to glance at the X-Men, then glanced back at the police force. At least half of those who had not ushered out library staff remained and looked displeased with the idea of being forced out. “What’re all waiting for? Complimentary gift baskets? Head outside and stay there until I give you the clear. Start helping with those phone calls! Quicker we find the kid, the better.”
Amidst grumbles and shaking of heads from some of the more prejudice members of the police force, Jorge sighed deeply. He waited for them to exit before he began to make his way back to the pair of mutants.
“Alright,” he said as he addressed them. “What’s next?”

Kealey watched curiously as Shin and the Detective introduced themselves, then proceeded to have a conversation as if she weren’t there…or as if she were a thing that needed to be taken care of. The blond huffed a bit, but then shook her head and chuckled, Shin’s feelings were anything but patronizing. Sometimes, being an empath was nice…it helped avoid misunderstandings.
Introductions complete, the two men went to work on the problem at hand and how to find the boy in the book. Kealey had to grin when Shin caught on to what she was thinking, and she nodded her head at his comparison, ”That’s what I’m hoping, at least. If it’s…quiet enough in here, I should be able to pick out at least the general direction we need to look.”
The police officer agreed, and Kealey shrugged her shoulders when he said he wanted to be involved in the search. ”As long as you stay close to me it shouldn’t be a problem.”
Detective Cervantes gave the order, and the Police got angry again. Kealey wanted to say something to make them feel like she wasn’t stealing their thunder…but it probably wasn’t possible. They were bitter…and she sighed, looking at Shin, ”I hope you can use your connections to smooth this out…we are not their favorite people right now. “
Eventually, the space cleared out and Kealey closed her eyes and took a deep breath, working on clearing her mind as the emotions of the others faded into the distance. Her powers reached a long way, but the library was huge. Even with her advantage this was going to take hours if they didn’t have a plan.
”I used to work here.” she said softly, eyes still shut. ”If you take me to the last place they saw him…I might be able to pick him up.” she frowned…trying to calculate the range of her power…”I can feel a large portion of the Mansion when I’m in the middle, so if we’re close…I’ll feel him.” she left the rest unsaid…because all it would have been was if there’s anything to feel.
None of that though. There was still hope, and Kealey was confident. She opened her eyes and nodded. ”Let’s go.”

>>”That’s what I’m hoping, at least. If it’s…quiet enough in here, I should be able to pick out at least the general direction we need to look.”
Shin nodded. Her suggestion was good. The detective agreed. He turned to address the assembled officers, telling them to leave. One by one, people started filtering out of the library, leaving only those necessary for the finding of the boy. Those that didn't leave immediately took a bit more convincing. Luckily, the detective was very convincing. He had a silver tongue.
Shin rubbed the back of his neck as some of the more 'opinionated' police officers walked past them. It was kind of awkward, with all the grumbling. He hardly thought now and here were the time and place for it.
Kealey sighed.
>>”I hope you can use your connections to smooth this out…we are not their favorite people right now. “
Shin laughed weakly. "Connections?" He shook his head. "They still haven't even given me pants that fit."
Once the place was clear, the detective turned to address them. Now the ball was in Kealey's court. She focused. To Shin, Kealey was always amazing. It was times like this, though, that her powers truly shone.

Jorge
Jorge did not like any of the looks that the officers gave on their way out. Most of them made their discomfort of the situation very well known. They did not like one bit that their jobs were being taken out of their hands by the X-Men, or the MRC even. The MRC they tolerated because it was a branch of the police, but the X-Men they still did not fully trust, apparently. That was such a bogus reason, especially when they were only out to do some good for the community. To judge them for just trying to help was really just plain out of line. He could make sure that he could suggest to the chief another round of sensitivity training for most of the people he recognized that gave harsh looks towards them.
Once everyone was gone and the doors were sealed, a deafening silence fell over the entire building. To be in a library when everyone was gone was always a dream of his when he was a kid. The silence, the smell of the books everywhere, it was as if they were in a religious temple and their patron saints were Sarte, Shakespeare, Twain, Bronte, Dickens and Austen, among many, many others…
Then again, Jorge was a bit of a fanatic when it came to books so he doubted that many others would have the religious-like experience he was having right now. With a shake of his head, he returned back to the two X-Men…the blonde was apparently taking the lead now…
>> ”I used to work here…If you take me to the last place they saw him…I might be able to pick him up…I can feel a large portion of the Mansion when I’m in the middle, so if we’re close…I’ll feel him…Let’s go.”
“You’re the boss,” he said with a nod and began to lead the way.
Their footsteps echoed through the empty building, each one sounding like a heartbeat inside of a cavernous chapel/library. These books, these books everywhere, if they could talk, oh the stories I’m sure they could tell. They would tell about how in one area, a man proposed to his longtime girlfriend; or how over in fiction, a girl caught her boyfriend cheating with her best friend, making out as if tomorrow would be their last; or over at the science second, the young grad student who would spend hours sitting on the ground, pouring over a combination of books and notes…yes, they would have many stories. But, would even they have known what happened to little Jackie Paper? Would they even tell them?
Leading them over to the graphic novel section, which Jorge could only shake his head at, he nodded to the empty table that had a few open books on it. They were a combination of comic books and fiction novels and other studying materials. Nudging over a comic book novel that had the word “GUNDAM” in big letters and some giant robot on the cover, Jorge turned back to the pair of X-Men…
“His friends say that they were all here,” he said as he waved around. “They don’t remember which book they grabbed, only that it was not a ‘cool’ graphic novel, but one of those ‘boring dusty stories’ for class. They can’t remember the title of even what it looks like. Only that it was thick and smelled earthy.”

Kealey scowled a little at the fact that Shin still didn’t have police pants that fit properly. Besides the fact that they were too tight to be really decent…didn’t a police officer need to be able to move around sometimes? Wasn’t it dangerous to have movement restricting pants? She growled a little under her breath and glared over her shoulder at the retreating backs of the rest of the officers.
”Remind me to fix that.” she said simply.
When she was ready, the Detective led them further into the library, and Kealey almost marveled at the building. It had been too long since she’d been here, and the aesthetic beauty of the shelves and rooms and architecture struck her almost like they had the first time she’d entered.
The trio stopped, and Jorge pointed out that they were in the area where the boys had been before they’d played their ‘joke’ on their friend. Anime, graphic novels, the perfect place for a trio of teenagers. Kealey saw the Gundam book and tilted her head in memory of a time they’d actually fought one of those things. ”Nerds have diverse taste.” she said quietly, her voice serious as she spoke, ”We always found a lot of books from other areas over here, because they’d cart them over, get lost in the comics, and forget what they’d come here for in the first place.”
That didn’t help the situation though, neither did the fact that it had been a thick and earthy book. The Main Branch of the New York Public Library had one of the largest book collections in the country…maybe on the planet. There were a lot of books…many of them thick…and old books just smelled earthy.
Still, Kealey nodded her head and closed her eyes again. It was rare that she actually had to seek things out with her powers. The emotions were usually a constant barrage that she had to work to keep from overtaking her own. This was different though, and she tried, there was nothing though. Not here.
Instead of asking permission this time, Kealey simply turned and walked towards the book returns, still reaching out to see what she could feel. Twenty feet away…thirty feet away…the blond figured that moving in one direction was better than wandering at random and she kept moving. Eventually she’d feel something…
They kept on for a little while like that, back and forth, up and down. Kealey didn’t speak, and paid absolutely no attention to the time…until something tickled at the back of her mind.
The blond gasped softly then stopped moving again, eyes shut once more as she tried to grasp at the straws. One step forward and the tickle got a little more solid…one to the left and it disappeared completely. Kealey took a few quick steps forward and to the right and was rewarded with a clearer interpretation of what she was feeling.
”That poor child….” Kealey whispered, then headed in the same direction. ”He’s here.” she said and advanced….until the emotions were nearly as strong as the ones from Shin and Detective Cervantes.
”Somewhere close here…” she said, ”But I can’t get any more accurate than that…within probably…six or seven feet of where I stand in any direction.”
It narrowed things down…but Kealey sighed and looked around. They’d found the classics section. In the area Kealey had just described…there were so many books. Out she reached and grabbed one, holding the cover in both hands and giving it an upside-down shake. Nothing. Down it went to the floor ”That’s one down.”

>>”Remind me to fix that.” Kealey said.
Shin smiled. "That'd make my day."
Once they were ready, the detective led the way. The mansion's library always impressed Shin. He kind of loved it to bits. Ever since Kealey had started working there, he'd seen to checking more things out. There was always something good to read, and there was always a good reason to pop on by to visit his gal at her work. As they traveled past the stacks, Shin's eyes wandered over volume after volume. They sure were more neatly organized, now that Kealey was working there. Finally, the group stopped by the graphic novel section.
Kealey commented on the graphic novels, and Shin was appreciative of her. Nerds and diverse tastes said a lot about all the anime he'd made her watch. He made a note to drag her back to the section to check out some comics she'd likely read and reread past the point of overdue.
Shin was silent while she worked. He let her focus. He knew she was good at that. They'd been working on her focus. Amazing as always, she was. The boy wasn't in the graphic novels section. She moved. Further. Further. Further away from them. Shin followed, keeping back with the detective. He gave her working space. It took some time, but eventually...
Somewhere around where she stood. She'd narrowed the choices down from mountains of books to a small perimeter of searching.
One down. "That's a start. Now..." He turned to the detective. "Did the kids say the bookmark was inside inside the book, or sticking out... because maybe, if it's sticking a fraction of an inch out from the spine... I might be able to eyeball it..." Maybe... He glanced at Kealey. "Although I might need a ladder... or maybe a floating square."

Jorge
There was little else that Jorge could do but follow. After he had led the two X-Men to the last place Jackie had been he could only sit back as the blonde took over. She had stated she was a human diving rod of sorts, or at least the kid named Shin did, so that must he had only to follow her so follow her he did. He remained behind, not wanting to distract her and walked extremely slow, careful to not let his feet echo too loudly in the massive, church-like building. The whole way he dared not even to breathe.
Onward they charged, walking slow, letting Kealey divine with her mutant abilities where the kid’s location was. It seemed for a moment like this was a waste. She was almost aimlessly wandering but before long, they must have hit some kind of pay dirt. Kealey caught something and she was onto it like a bloodhound, tracking the location as best she could until…she finally stopped.
Jorge could only sigh as he looked around the massive collection of overly large books. Of course…it had to be the Classic’s stacks…
>> ”That poor child…He’s here…Somewhere close here…But I can’t get any more accurate than that…within probably…six or seven feet of where I stand in any direction… That’s one down.”
Seriously? Well, he could not really blame. Even Jorge has a very divining rod ability when it came to water, but there was way too much water running through the pipes and sprinkler system for him to catch any sense of where the kid was. Then again, he doubted his ability would even be able to pinpoint him thanks Jackie’s paper form. He doubted that gave off much human perspiration for him to follow.
At least they had a general idea.
Reaching out, Jorge grabbed one of the books, held it open by its covers and let it hang upside down. Just like before, nothing fell out of it. He sighed as he set then down on top of the book she had just checked out. Two down…
>> "That's a start. Now...Did the kids say the bookmark was inside inside the book, or sticking out... because maybe, if it's sticking a fraction of an inch out from the spine... I might be able to eyeball it...Although I might need a ladder... or maybe a floating square."[/i]
He turned back to Shin and shook his head. “Honestly, I don’t know. All they said was that he turned himself into a paper crane, they grabbed him, shoved him into the book and dropped it into the book return.” The detective shrugged his shoulders. “All we can assume is that they put him inside in such a rush that they left a point, a wing, something of him poking out.”
This was going to move much too slowly for Jorge, but at least it was a better plan than nothing. So long as they at least have a general area, they should be able to find him. Looking around, he grabbed another book at random and read the title to himself…
“Paper Dolls…” he opened it and, one more, nothing came out. He shook his head as he placed it in the ‘looked at’ pile. “Would’ve been too easy.” He reached for another and glanced over at them. “By the way, I apologize if any of the other officers made you feel uncomfortable back there. They don’t always like it when MRC gets involved in their case, especially when we bring in you X-Men. I apologize for them, even if they never will.”

Jules
A smile bloomed across Kealey’s worried features at Shin’s suggestion. The detective, whose confidence in her had waned for a bit, didn’t seem to catch on…but that made sense to Kealey. How could he know what Shin’s powers were? She let the older man speak, then winked at Shin as he apologized for the way the police had reacted.
”People always fear what is different, Detective. Despite how disappointing the reaction is…it’s understandable. I’m not sure how much I’d like someone stepping in and acting like they could do my job better solely based on genetics.” Her words were true, and Kealey tried to emphasize that in her words…this wasn’t the time for pandering though.
”What I think Shin meant though…Detective Cervantes, is that his powers let him see things very precisely.” Kealey sure hoped Shin didn’t mind her answering for him…but by virtue of her past experience with Jorge, Kealey felt almost like a liaison.
She turned back to Shin, ”Your turn.” she said with a grin…she had a good feeling about this. It was almost innate…when you put something in a book (like a bookmark) you left a little sticking out of the end. This was totally going to work.

The detective answered him vaguely. All they could assume was that the kids had put him into the book so hurriedly that they'd left some point sticking out, like a wing or a beak or a tail... That was a maybe.
Shin turned his body away from him, towards the stacks. He started looking. Book after book, page after page... maybe what he'd suggested had been too impressive, even for him. It had been a good idea, though. It hadn't hurt suggesting it.
>>"By the way."
The detective grabbed his attention. Shin looked his way.
>>"I apologize if any of the other officers made you feel uncomfortable back there. They don’t always like it when MRC gets involved in their case, especially when we bring in you X-Men. I apologize for them, even if they never will."
Kealey winked, then offered her own thoughts. Then, she brought up his powers again, and told him it was his turn. She had full confidence in him.
Shin was still looking at the detective (whose name he now had, Cervantes). "Yeah. I know how they can be..." He said. "They've been hazing me ever since the X-men started working with the police force. Haven't even given me a properly-fitting police uniform. I think they don't think I'm one of them, so it's not worth it getting that fixed... or fixing any other things while they're at it. Like attitudes."
He glanced at Kealey. "Anyways," He smiled appreciatively at her. "I'll give it a try."
Back, his eyes turned towards the shelves, scanning. It was hard. He'd been right earlier. It might be too big a job... whatever he was looking for didn't appear to be on the lower shelves. Shin dropped his focus to the carpet and focused. After a few seconds, the shard platform was there for stepping. He got on it and hovered up to check the higher shelves, acting as if nothing out of the ordinary had just happened.
Shin scanned. "So far, nothing..." But it was only a start.
