The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>Yeah well, you know there is a whole friggin' world between livin' on egshells an' freezin' to death. Ya're a fire elemental, Kate. Duh.
“For me there’s not. There are a lot of things out there that could hurt or kill me and I have lived in a bubble avoiding them all my whole life. I’ve lived my life vicariously through movies and books and stories. Watching others experience life from the comfort of my home, and experiencing nothing for myself. That isn’t a life.”
Kate stared at the crack in the large curtains on the window at the other end of the room. She could see a crack of gray light and the white flakes of snow.
“Do you know what the first thing I thought when I met Sam on our first danger room session? I thought about how he could kill me. I thought about how I needed to stay away from him and how I was afraid of him. I don’t’ want to be afraid anymore, and not just of Sam, I mean I don’t’ want to be afraid to live anymore. I don’t want to be my mother,” Tears started to form in the teens eyes and she quickly rubbed them away, “I don’t want to die like her.”
>>"I don’t’ want to be afraid to live anymore. I don’t want to be my mother. I don’t want to die like her.”
That... made sense. It sounded kinda crazy, but he could see why she would feel like that. The life she'd been living ws so completely different from his, and she was still not happy with it.
"You're not" Gawain shook his head "Ya're not gonna die like that, Kate." he squeezed her hand "Not being afraid is great..." he sighed "But please, try not to die in the process. I'd really miss ya."
>>You're not"…Ya're not gonna die like that, Kate. Not being afraid is great...But please, try not to die in the process. I'd really miss ya.
Kate looked at Gawain’s hand as it squeezed hers, and she felt guilt rush over her as it finily set in just how much he cared and how much he was worried about her. She looked around the room and the guilt was replaced by sadness. She had spent so much time in here with her mother. So many days spent just watching movies or talking. So many days she would never get to have again.
Kate turned back to Gawain, “I know you didn’t enjoy sleeping in that chair but would you mind staying with me anyway. You can even sleep up here with me. I mean this bed is big enough.”
>>“I know you didn’t enjoy sleeping in that chair but would you mind staying with me anyway. You can even sleep up here with me. I mean this bed is big enough.”
"Umm...."
So, here is the thousand dollar question: your best friend, who is a girl, wakes up from a coma, and asks you to sleep in her bed. What do you tell your girlfriend? Probably nothing. Kate was just a friend anyway. And Gawain was just Maya.
"... sure. Scoot."
Lying down, Gawain kept a comfortable distance between them, to keep things... decent. Looking at her in the faint light, he smiled a bit.
“I guess. I didn’t mean right this second but this works. Hmm….” Kate thought about what they could do. She wasn’t overly tired after sleeping for two days, “Can you press the button on the intercom that says overhead.” Kate pointed to the white box on the side table.
Once Gawain did as she asked she spoke, "Jensen could you please bring breakfast up to my mother's bedroom, I'm starving. Also could you bring in Notting Hill, I kind of want to watch a movie."
There was silence for a moment before Jensen was heard on the other end, "Of course Madam. It's good to see that you are awake. I will be up momentarily."
"Does that sound okay to you? I am not overly tired after sleeping for that long anyway."
>>"Jensen could you please bring breakfast up to my mother's bedroom, I'm starving. Also could you bring in Notting Hill, I kind of want to watch a movie."
>>"Of course Madam. It's good to see that you are awake. I will be up momentarily."
"Holy s***" Gawain rolled out of bed and backed away "Geez Kate, gimme a fair warning next time. That guy finds me in your bed, I'm dead."
The idea of Jensen finding him there made him shudder. The old guy always looked comped and calm, but Gawain was pretty sure he could turn into a psycho any minute.
>>“I’m sorry, And do you really think he will hurt you. Jensen is honestly harmless. I can’t imagine that he would ever hurt you for something.”
"Oh, I can" Gawain assured her "And trust me, if he'd hurt me for anything, it would be him finding me in your bed."
It was a very likely scenario. Not that he'd had that experience before. The precious few times when he was in girls' beds with a whole different intention, he was always the one who got away. He'd been stupid to wait for a parent to kick him out. Or, worse, said girl to see him shift into... well, another girl.
Gawain waited patiently for Jensen to appear, keeping his distance from the bed.
>>Oh, I can. And trust me, if he'd hurt me for anything, it would be him finding me in your bed.
Kate couldn’t help but laugh and immediately regretted it. Her body was still rather sour from the entire experience and it hurt to move let alone laugh.
“If you say so.”
It was only a matter of time before Jensen joined them and placed a tray of food in front of Kate. He picked up the DVD and put it into the player that was hidden in a table at the end of the bed.
“Will that be all.” He stopped at the door to wait for a reply.
“No. Thank you Jensen.”
“I’m glad to see you are feeling better, Milady.” Jensen bowed his head a little and exited the room.
Kate felt her body protest as she reached over for the remote but ignored it. She was going to have to work through the pain for a while in order to function; this was going to be a long recovery.
She pressed the power button and the TV came to life with color.
Gawain waited till jensen was gone before he wandered back to the bed.
"I think he is very glad ya're awake." he smirked at her "Shoulda seen him when I brought you in. The guy loves you as his daughter."
It was true. Gawain was fine-tuned to emotions like that; he never had a father, and sometimes he really wanted one. Or a mother, at least. Looking at Kate, he decided not to say that. It was not the time.
Sitting down onto the edge of the bed, she watched her move carefully.
>>I think he is very glad ya're awake. Shoulda seen him when I brought you in. The guy loves you as his daughter. Let me know if you need help. Really.
“I will never get better if I don’t’ do it myself, and you’re right. I never had a father and Jensen lost his wife when they were both very young. He never had the chance to have children so he raised me and my dad like his own. Though, in the circumstances I grew up in, it isn’t unheard of for a child to be raised by servants.”
Kate went through the menu and pressed play, “This is my favorite movie you know. There is something about it that is just beautiful to me.” She moved over slightly with a cringe and pulled up the blanket so Gawain could get under the covers with her.
>>“I will never get better if I don’t’ do it myself... in the circumstances I grew up in, it isn’t unheard of for a child to be raised by servants.”
"Well, coulda been worse than him" Gawain smirked, sitting down on the bed "At least he doesn't hold a gun to your head and make you clean up."
Father figures. They come in many different forms and shapes.
"Ya sure you don' want me to feed you? I know you'll have to get stronger eventually, but I think you should take it easy for now. Ya just woke up from a coma, kid..."
>>“This is my favorite movie you know. There is something about it that is just beautiful to me.”
She scooted over, and Gawain kicked off his shoes to get under the blanket.
"Dunno, I don' think I've ever seen the whole movie before." he smirked. It was probably a girl thing. For full-time girls.
>>Well, coulda been worse than him At least he doesn't hold a gun to your head and make you clean up.
Gawain was right; Kate could have done way worse than Jensen. She smiled and thought about how good he had been to her over the years and how much he really did care. Like most of the people she knew, he didn’t really show emotion outwardly, but Kate had no doubt that in his own way he loved her and that was fine by her.
>>Ya sure you don' want me to feed you? I know you'll have to get stronger eventually, but I think you should take it easy for now. Ya just woke up from a coma, kid...
“First of all I am older then you and I’m not a baby. I can feed myself you silly boy.” Kate moved the blanket and scooted over to let Gawain sit next to her, “This is my favorite movie you know. There is something about it that is just beautiful to me.”
>>Dunno, I don' think I've ever seen the whole movie before.
“Well after today you will have,” Kate smiled at Gawain. Despite all that had happened over the past few days it was nice to just sit down and spend the day with her best friend, “You get to live a day in the life of me before I moved. You will have to tell me what you think once it is over.”
>>“First of all I am older then you and I’m not a baby. I can feed myself you silly boy."
"All right all right" Gawan shook his head with a smirk "Suit yourself."
At least Kate was getting back to normal; he would have been more worried if she did not want to eat. Her appetite and the way she behaved promised a quick recovery.
>> “You get to live a day in the life of me before I moved. You will have to tell me what you think once it is over.”
"Will do" Gawain smiled, watching her eat. She said she was all right, but one could never know; better keep an eye on her till it was sure she wouldn't faint again. He sat by her, and watched the movie and the girl simultaneously. Once again, real life was a lot more interesting...
Within half an hour of the movie Kate was out like a light. She had only picked at her food and for some reason the small amount of activity she had done since she had awoken had tired her out quite a bit. So now, she was asleep on Gawain’s shoulder while the movie played in the silence of the room.
