The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She watched it happen. Lori, leader and protector of her little slice of mutantkind, crushed a little girl's hopes and dreams. The blonde looked around and saw Andrew still in the doorway. She made a face to him that screamed help me! because she was way in over her head. She didn't coddle children. She... she just uhm... gave them a place to stay and corrupted them?
Kaitlyn's face was turned toward the ground. Oh no no no. She wasn't going to cray was she?
Lori backtracked and tried to think of what she had just said to the girl that could have had this effect. Santa's imaginary. Surely Kaitlyn, smart and sassy little Kaitlyn, already knew the biggest social secret of all.
"Oh, sweety." Lori put her hand on Kaitlyn's head a bit awkwardly. Sometimes this kind of thing came naturally. Sometimes Lori knew just what to say. "Santa is a story parents tell to manipulate kids into behaving. Don't you feel better now knowing there isn't some old fat guy watching you when you sleep?" Now was not one of those times.

Oh man that was a train wreck. The girl reacted like you would expect a young girl her age to act upon being told that Santa wasn't real. She went from proud and defiant to sad and sorry in the space of the few seconds it took her to understand what she'd been told. Meanwhile Lori now seemed in over her head. She spotted him in his spot by the door and practically begged for help. Andrew just gave a sort of puzzled shrug. He hadn't exactly dealt with kids too often himself. However it seemed that Lori was going to try and make it better.
She started off well with a hand on the girl's head and the 'Oh, sweety.' bit. Then it just sort of fell apart. Yes part of the Santa bit was an attempt to coerce good behavior but she didn't need to say that. To cap it off she'd made Santa sound like a disgusting old pervert. Though if you thought about it...Andrew gave a shudder. Well he wouldn't be thinking about Santa the same way ever again.
However Andrew had no idea what he could say that would help the situation at all. He let his puzzled shrug from earlier stand. What did you say to cheer up a girl that has just been told that Santa is a lie and a pervert?

Kaitlyn took a few moments to comprehend what she was hearing.
Santa's gifts were actually some kind of lying... bribe... thing? In spite of all evidence to the contrary, it would explain a lot... such as why Kaitlyn never got any gifts from him. Other kids' parents actually cared about them. Her own father? Not so much.
Come to think of it, Kaitlyn liked the idea of Santa being a lie. No longer would she have to worry about being on the bad side of an omniscient super-mutant. And Lori was right. Santa did seem kinda creepy, when she thought about it. Looking up at her adoptive mother, she allowed herself to grin a little.
Most importantly, Lori didn't seem to be too upset about the DRNP uprising anymore. Kaitlyn was still getting a Christmas present!
Then, she glanced at the guy in the corner of the room. That guy had been standing over there for a while, now. Just... looking at them. Kaitlyn didn't recognize him from around the Sanctuary, either. Gesturing towards the stranger, the tiny Orderling gave her leader an inquisitive look. "Who's that?"
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
The gears turned in Kaitlyn's head. Lori could see her working through the information. She was reconciling years of lies with a sudden truth. And it didn't look like it was settling in too badly. Lori let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. Good. She hadn't made any children cry today. She was really doing pretty good.
"Who's that?"
"That's the guy who patched up our Santa. You could call him Santa's little helper, but... don't hang him."
Lori put her hand on Kaitlyn's back and swept her toward the door and the tarrying man. "Andrew this is Kaitlyn. She goes boom. Kaitlyn, he gets tattoos." Ms. Manners said that by slipping in a little bit about both of the people you were introducing, they would have something to talk about. Maybe she had their mutations boiled down a little too thinly, but this whole playing house and hostess thing really did not come naturally.

The whole Santa dilemma managed to wrap up rather nicely. The girl didn't cry and Lori seemed very relieved that she didn't. Andrew for his part smiled, though he was still a little creeped out about Santa. Once that was over the girl looked around and finally spotted him. Great, he'd waited too long and now he had to stand through introductions again. At least the girl wasn't nearly as frightening as Lori had been at first.
Lori introduced him as the guy that had patched up Santa and asked the girl not to hang him. He gave a chuckle.
"Yeah, I don't think the boss would appreciate how late I'd be if you hung me."
Lori brought the girl over for a proper introduction, complete with incredibly simplified descriptions of powers. She left out the promising portion of his power entirely. Not that he wasn't grateful for that. The less he had to explain the better. Anyway, the girl's name was Kaitlyn and when she wasn't hanging Santa and bringing about communist revolutions she made explosions. Somehow the thought of explosions in the hands of a girl that young seemed rather scary to Andrew.

The Santa-hanging remarks made Kaitlyn smile. She thought it was funny when she did it, too. So did everyone else.
"Tattoos?" Her eyes lit with excitement. "Can I see 'em, Andrew?"
Tattoos were so cool. Kaitlyn wished that she could get one herself, but everyone always told her that she was too young. And it never worked when she told a lie about how she was really a shapeshifter, or a 200-year-old mutant who was stuck in a ten-year-old body, or something like that. She might not have even been the only kid to try telling that story.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Lori raised her eyebrows at Andrew as if to say Well? The Order leader had her own tattoos but no good way to show them off in a kid friendly, public setting. Except maybe the one on her back.... Maybe. The arm? Nah. If she was showing, she decided the back was safer. She would have to bypass fewer scars to get there.
"I'll show you mine if you show her yours." She grinned knowing full well how very wrong that sounded.

Andrew was already pulling off the glove on his left hand to show Kaitlin his tattoo when Lori made her remark. Combined with her grin she had to know exactly how that sounded. For his part he just cleared his throat and tried to ignore it.
"I'm afraid my tattoos aren't that interesting and I've only got the one at the moment."
The glove came off and Andrew pushed up his sleeve so that the band of black was visible to the girl and the woman.
"See? Pretty boring all told."
For now he had more scars than promises. If he could keep it that way he would. Sure the promise he currently had didn't affect him that much but who knew what other people would ask of him. He'd hate to think just how much multiple promises could change him. Even one was enough to wipe someone from his memory give enough time.

Lori had tattoos, too? This was so cool!
But Andrew's single tattoo was an anticlimactic reveal, at best. He was right about it being uninteresting. With slightly visible disappointment, Kaitlyn asked, "But if your power is to give yourself tattoos, couldn't you just give yourself a cooler one?"
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
"Yeah, why don't you get a cool one, Andrew? Like this?" She turned and shimmied up her button-up shirt until her lower back was exposed. It was what kids these days referred to as a "tramp stamp" and she knew it. The design that was tucked just a little bit lower into her jeans than was decent was a design that looked a bit tribal and spanned the entire width of her hips. At the center sat a rather life-like image of a blue Papilio ulysses.
"Mine is a cautionary tale. Think before you decide to get something permanent."

He chuckled lightly and let his sleeve fall back into place.
"Doesn't work like that I'm afraid Kaitlin. The tattoos are just a side affect of my power and always look like that."
Andrew pondered whether or not to tell the girl what his power really entailed but didn't think about it too long. He'd already told Lori, no harm in telling Kaitlin too.
"The tattoos just show when I've made a promise. Whenever I make a promise I have to keep it or I get hurt."
That was short and to the point enough. It left out details but they weren't really necessary here. Not to mention he wasn't about to tell the girl something that he hadn't told Lori. If he was asked what that tattoo represented he'd have to make something up. Either that or leave his answer vague enough that they wouldn't be able to guess that he just plain couldn't remember. Letting someone know that your ability messed with your head probably wasn't a good idea. Especially when you weren't entirely sure whether or not telling them about the ability had been a good idea or not.

A cautionary tale?
As Kaitlyn considered her leader's word choice, her excitement dampened. Did Lori actually regret getting her tattoo? Did this mean that tattoos weren't cool?
Either way, the design evoked an excited "wow!" from its intended audience. Or at least the younger half of the audience; Andrew was chuckling. Kaitlyn's doubts about the coolness of tattoos grew with each passing second.
But enough about that. Andrew had the power to hurt himself when he broke promises. Must have sucked to be him.
Though, perhaps if Kaitlyn had followed through with her own promises to practice with her power more often, there might have been fewer explosion-related accidents in the Sanctuary. She even been able to watch horror movies in the rec room without accidentally blowing up everything each time something scary popped up.
"Can your mutant power do anything else?"
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Her shirt went back into her pants where it belonged. The wow made her feel a little better about her olden days of yore. At least she hadn't gotten a unicorn or a sesame street character saying a curse word. Those had been options at the time...
"The problem with tattoos is that they don't change. When you grow, you continue to change and ink doesn't. Not for a lowly mortal like me anyway." She should find a tattoo-mancer some day... maybe one of the M addicts would be one and she could get it changed to something else. 'Jacen 4 ever' and his face.
Lori coughed into her elbow to disguise a laugh. Yeah. That was such a bad idea.
Lucky Kaitlyn was more interested in tattoo Andrew's powers. "It would kind of be awesome if you could choose your design on purpose."

Andrew gave a shrug to Kaitlyn.
"If it can I don't know about it. Pretty useless over all."
Lori spoke up about how tattoos didn't change like a person did. That was the major problem with them. Something that seems cool when you're twenty probably won't see so cool when you're fifty. Lori then followed up by musing that it would be cool if he could control the appearance of his tattoos. Andrew nodded in response.
"Yeah. It would be nice. Unfortunately that's not the case."
Andrew turned toward to the doors to once again head out. Except that there was some rather large in the way. It was rectangular, had wheels, and was commonly known as a bus. It or its driver seemed to have taken offense toward the golden doors of the sanctuary. Whatever the case it was heading straight toward them. With a shout Andrew turned, grabbed arms of both Kaitlyn and Lori, and attempted to tug them out of the way of the large metal projectile and the wreckage it would surely cause.
(OOC Note: Crashing bus has been discussed with and ok'd by Lori, as it was her idea)
