The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawain dropped to one knee as Shin threw his sword at the monster behind him; he didn't even have to look to know the third horror was down. He used the spare moment to pull out another bunch of arrows from the quiver, holding them against the handle of the bow while he put one on the string.
Just in time, to see Shin had the same problem he'd had moments before.
"Shin, down!" he yelled, still on one knee as he drew the arrow and let it fly. It hit the monster's other eye, blinding him effectively and making him keel over as the second arrow hit it in the chest. It fell, only missing Shin by mere inches.
"Hell yeah" Gawain grinned, standing up. 9 more horrors to go. He moved closer to Shin and circled till they had their backs to each other, with enough space between them to allow them to fight separately.
"Shin, wanna use that shard thing of yours and give me some height?" he asked, looking up at the Horrors. Shooting from above seemed like a fun thing to do.

Another one down. Shin darted out of the way, narrowly avoiding the fallen horror's faceplant. His sword moved through the air, back into his hand. Shin rushed back into position, putting Gawain at his back and the monsters at his front. It was a good battle arrangement.
The room seemed to turn around them like some sort of Hollywood action shot. The horrors loomed on all sides, roaring and slashing at the air. And then, they glanced at each other, as if communing amongst themselves. They had an idea.
Gawain made a suggestion. Shin's focus dropped, pulling all the shards in the area together, save those composing his sword. He reformed them into a large platform, big enough for Gawain and him. Shin stepped up onto it quickly. "Hurry." He said, with urgency. He extended a helping hand to Gawain, to get him up on the pink shard platform.
The monsters had reached an agreement. All 9 horrors launched themselves leaping into the air at the duo. There was only one way they'd get out of the overwhelming situation. The answer was up!
((OOC: Feel free to Godmode Shin bringing us up and out of danger, once Gawain is on top of the shard barrier. It's big enough that they can still fight back to back. Feel free to mention epic sword poses on top of the platform, and Hollywood-esque scenes.))
"Whoah whoah whoah" Gawain commented as he was pulled up onto the platform. As the shards shop upwards, carrying them at a breakneck speed, he tried his best to keep his balance, and get ready for the next attack. He already had the next arrow on the string, but while Shin was maneuvering the platform, doing his best to keep them from being jumped by 9 monsters at once, it was pretty damn hard to aim.
"Keep it steady, will ya" he muttered with his back to the shard manipulator. Good news: the horrors missed the jump. Bad news: they were coming again. From below, this time, but it really did not make much of a difference.
Gawain did not need to glance back to see if Shin was ready. He did, however, need to glance back to see how he was ready; the shard manipulator in his battle gear, brandishing the shard sword, was really quite the sight. Gawain smirked as he drew the arrow and turned back to pick a target.
There were eight monsters around them. Wait, eight? Right. There was one under the platform, planning to knock it over.
"Damn." Gawain was over the edge in an instant, hanging upside down, staring into the face of the monster. The edge of the shards dug into the back of his knees. He let the arrow fly; it his the horror... somewhere, it must have, because it shrieked, but Gawain didn't quite see, because the monster still collided with the platform, although with much less force than it originally intended. Gawain's feet slipped; he managed to catch the edge of the platform with one hand, so he did not fall. Barely.
"Whew!" he yelled, none the less "I've always wanted to try that..."
((OOC: it is actually possible. The hanging upside-down thing. They do it at archery competitions. It's pretty darn hard to aim like that though, so I doubt Gawain hit anything vital on the horror...))

>>"Keep it steady, will ya"
"I'm tryin'." Shin shot back. For second, his tongue slipped and cut the 'g' off the end of his word. He'd slipped into Gawain-speech. Whoops.
The shard platform moved into position. Shin turned, eyes summing up the situation, taking in measurements and making rapid calculations. Enemy placement, size, distance, number. He focused on one with gnashing black jaws, like the pincers of a beetle, then suddenly, the shard platform's weight distribution shifted. Gawain had gone over the edge.
For a second, Shin was glad he was still working on rounding edges. The thought of razors digging into the backs of ones knees didn't appeal to him. The edges of the platform might be a bit sharp, but it wasn't enough to cut off any limbs, a fact Gawain would likely be grateful for. That is, if they survived this encounter with the guy beneath the platform.
BUNP.
It hit. Shin's arms waved around, wheeling through the air to catch his balance. He caught it. His eyes shot down to Gawain and the horrors grouping below them.
Shin had an idea. He made sure the platform's surface was reflective, then stated. "Get in."
Gawain could feel the pull as the surface of the platform turned reflective; he was very grateful it did, because his hand was starting to slip, and he really didn't want to drop his bow just yet. Merging into his reflection, he moved around to look up at Shin.
"So, any more bright ideas?" he asked as he stepped out onto the platform and balanced himself as he pulled out another arrow.
It really was fun. Standing on a flying platform made of shards and fighting monsters. Easy, simple. Good times.
The platform bounced again as something hit it from below. Gawain missed the shot and almost fell again.

That thing was not a good thing. And Gawain had not followed his directions.
"Gawain," Shin said evenly, forcing the calm to override the frantic tone he might have held. "When I said 'Get in', it was because I was going to turn the platform into a giant sword and slice through all the horrors in one fell swoop." He looked Gawain in the eye. "I can't really do that with you balancing on top. And balancing myself and you at the same time while doing anything that fast... might be a terrible idea. Yeah?"
It was a reprimand. He hated himself for having to say it, but the point remained. Gawain hadn't followed his instruction. He might need to work on that, for on-the-fly team battling. It was better if he could follow leads.

Whoops.
Shin was staring him in the eye, which was kinda hard to maintain while balancing on the platform, and being attacked by horrors. Still, he seemed to be more pissed at him now than at the actualy enemy.
"I like it when ya get bossy" Gawain grinned, and had the nerve to wink at Shinbo before he megered back into his reflection, and looked up at him "Slice away."
It sounded like something epic. Even though it meant Gawain sitting idly in the blade and not doing anything, if it could bring the team to win, he was willing to sit back and watch. Hopefully, it would not come with shattering the blade, because, frankly, that would not be so nice...

Okay. Giant Sword. Gawain was in the shard construct now. Good. Shin took a calming breath and focused his mind. More shards appeared on the platform. They flipped and turned, extending it on both sides. As they moved, the color of the whole platform changed to a dark reflective red. When it was done, Shin hovered on a V-shaped boomerang of a platform sword, with monsters lurking below. The whole process took about 10 seconds. Shards clamped down on his shoes to lock them in place. Shin dropped down to place a hand on the platform for balance. And then... he took off.
Slashy slash. The sword-boomerang keened through the air. "Slice Away", Gawain had said, and "Slice Away", he did. Shin had said one fell swoop. That's pretty much what it took. Maybe one and a half?
When he was done, Shin turned the platform back towards where he'd been, wheeling it past the Danger Room's wall. No horrors remained standing. "Session, end." Shin announced.
The platform touched down on the ground. Shin stepped off. He waited for Gawain to exit the platform, then dismissed every shard.
"Not bad." He commented. "But you need to work on listening to orders."
The slicing and swooshing and being awesome was over in a matter of seconds. Gawain watched it from a curious angle; it still looked pretty cool. Once it was over, they landed and he stepped out of the shards. He did his best not to show how he was feeling a bit dizzy.
>>"Not bad. But you need to work on listening to orders."
"Yeah, so I've been told." he smirked, scratching the back of his neck "Teamwork's something I don' have much experience with."
Apart from the X-men training he got from Sam, he never really had the chance to learn working (firghting) with others. It was new. But it was also kinda fun.

"Plenty to work on, then." Shin said, stepping past Gawain to the panel on the wall of the room. He entered some commands lazily, glancing over his shoulder, back to the teen.
"How about another session, then? We can practice more of that archery and swordy stuff." He had been meaning to get more practice there. Slashing horrors with a giant platform was not quite the same 'hack and slash' he had wanted to practice.
