“This is utterly ridiculous.”

Andrew stood at the door to the kitchens wielding a sheet pan like a weapon. He probably looked very absurd however Andrew had a perfectly viable reason as to why he was standing in the doorway of the kitchen using a sheet pan as a weapon. In a place full of mutants anything can happen and that anything came in the form of a monstrous and monstrously huge blob of seemingly sentient dough. Andrew had suspicions as to the cause but right now he couldn’t do anything about it. The culprit had wandered off before he could get them to reverse the damage. Or heck maybe they couldn’t reverse it and had just decided to get out of there before things got this bad.

In either case a rather spacey student had come into the kitchens while he was working with the dough for some bread he was intending to bake. Andrew didn’t like it but he didn’t tell her to get out either. She hadn’t really seemed to notice him at all. Her eyes and hair were a light blue color and she seemed to be about fifteen. While he worked on his bread she spent the majority of her time talking to the air, or at least seeming to. Right before the bread had risen to its mammoth proportions and turned on the baker, a.k.a Andrew, she’d uttered one word in the same other worldly unconcerned voice as she’d said everything else.

“Oops!”

If he could reach it Andrew would grab the salt and cover the thing in it. He had a hunch she’d done something to the yeast. What else would make it rise that much? Salting it would help inhibit the yeast. However he’d been literally thrown out of the kitchen just moments after he’d grabbed the sheet pan and thus couldn’t reach said item. So here he was trying to keep a gigantic loaf of unbaked bread in the kitchen to minimize damage. Any students that had been in the area had already fled. None of them apparently felt up to tackling a rampaging foodstuff. For the moment he was alone in the hallway swinging a sheet pan into the kitchen doorway in an effort to keep the bread beast back.

Since Kate had moved into the Institute and found the Steinway Piano that lay within it's walls, the people who knew her had figured out that the music room was the first place to look when looking for her, then you look in the library, followed by her room.

Today she could be found in her favorite of the three, the music room. She was enjoying playing one of her favorite pieces, Beethoven's Sonata No. 8 Pethetique. She had gotten about half way through it when she heard a huge amount of commotion. She tried playing louder to no avail. She looked at the door for a moment hoping it would go away, but when it didn't she had no choice but to get up and see what was going on. As she opened the door a young girl no older then 14 came whizzing past her running away from something. Kate stepped out of the room and looked down the hall to see Andrew standing at the entrance of the Kitchen donning a sheet pan.

At first she was confused and wondering if he had been threatening to beat the younger students, which seemed oddly out of character for him. It wasn't until after she noticed he was trying to attack something inside of the room did she figure out something was wrong. She ran down the hall to help not sure what she would find. Though, what she saw she was most certainly not expecting.

Inside the doorway was a large mass of what appeared to be bread and it was trying to kill Andrew.

The only thing she could think of to do... was... ask, "What's going on here?"

Faye wandered back into the mansion carrying the shopping bags that contained both her new boots and her costume for tomorrow. She was especially pleased with her costume, She’d be the first to admit it was a little skimpy but that was the point of Halloween wasn’t it? Dressing up? Looking good.

She’d been in a good mood all week after Lance had asked her out to the carnival, so good she was singing. Well not really singing more repeating the words from songs that she had heard.
How did that one go again? Oh yeah

"With a taste of your lips, I'm on a ride, You're toxic, I'm slipping..."

She finished her song as she reached her room, her lovely single room. No sharing for me. She was glad that she didn’t have to share what with her mutation and the fact that she could smoke in her room without anyone moaning.
She dropped her bags on the bed before pulling out her phone and texting Lance.

Looking forward to tomorrow. What time do you want to meet?

That done she opened one of the bags and reached in to get out her salad, mmm Chicken Caesar from that place on 12th.
Wait, nooooooo. It’s not fair! She stamped her feet and pouted. There was no fork. The salad was forkless.

Eat it with hands? No there was dressing, not salad without the dressing. A flash of inspiration came to her. Faye reached out towards the stack of glossy magazines on her bedside table. Taking one she ripped a strip of the glossy cover off. After folding it and tried to use it as a spoon.
She pouted again as the salad fell of her makeshift spoon and went on the floor.

“Well that’s just fan-effin-tastic. Now I have to go all the way down to the kitchen and get a fork. Why does bad stuff always happen to me? ‘aint fair”

She made her way down sullenly to the mansions kitchen hearing some commotion a way off, that wasn’t unusual in a school full of teenagers. Someone or something was always up. She just hoped it wasn’t anything to do with the kitchen.

Fayes fears where well founded as she entered the corridor leading to the kitchen she saw a couple of people around her age, maybe older it was hard to tell this far away.
The boy was swiping a tray at something inside the kitchen while the girl moved around to get a look through the door.
Faye sighed as it became clear to her that something was happening in the kitchen and no-one was going to get any cutlery any time soon.

“B-but Fork” she whispered lamely. Why do bad things always happen to good people?

An overwhelmingly familiar scent filled their nostrils. Elizabeth and Angua shared the sweet and delicious smell of freshly baked bread as it fell into chemical receptors in the wolfhound’s brain. It amazed Liz that the dog’s sense of smell could be so powerful. She’d heard many stories and such about it, but she’d never before dreamed of actually experiencing it firsthand. And boy was it powerful! Even though she was just in the girls’ wing of the dormitories, the canine could detect that aroma to such an extent that it seemed to take the center stage as smells come by.

Following the nose, Liz directed the puppy’s legs to motor down the hallway. A thrill of excitement sprang up in the dog’s emotional cloud and Liz made no effort to protect herself from it. In fact, she gladly welcomed it in! Minds joined both physically and figuratively, the mutant/canine combination skittered down the steps as fast as a hyperactive puppy could and engaged in an obstacle course with the house. As the two dodged under a chair and between a student’s legs, the wonderful smell grew stronger and stronger. It seemed like it was getting closer!

The mutant recognized Angua’s impulse to bark and she let it go. Angua gave out a long series of barks and woofs, as if she had spotted a fox. Mentally laughing and allowing her emotions to blend with the dog’s, Liz went along for the ride.

They almost crashed into a running kid as they rounded a corner at break-neck speeds. And then the smell was everywhere. High on the amazing smell of fresh bread, a tongue fell out of a panting mouth. Elizabeth directed Angua’s eyes around the room. The eyes were another thing that was odd about being a dog. The world was in various shades of black, white, and grey, like some old-time movie. And she didn’t see things quite as well. The thought of glasses flashed through Elizabeth’s mind but it was ignored due to the emotional influx coming from Angua.

With a bark, they charged forward again, deducing that the bread was not in the room. Then, with a flash of intelligence that was normally left behind on the eternal happy-rush from the puppy, Liz realized that there was only one place where there could be fresh bread: the kitchen. Howling with triumph, the mutant-dog team zipped through the mansion until they came to the doorway.

Suddenly something was in their way. Paws slipping and sliding on the floor as Liz frantically tried pulling on the brakes, Angua was sent sprawling down the hall past the doorway. But that small glimpse had been all she needed. She had seen a guy with a pan standing in the doorway. And in the background, bread! Marvelous, wonderful, delicious bread! Clambering to their feet as best as possible, the hyped-up dog bolted to the doorway beside the dude, panting in anticipation and longing.

And then the culmination of the dreams and hopes of both mutant and animal rose up and became a physical force. The bread was alive and moving! With a new rush of joy and energy, the possessor and possessed leaped forward in attack. Moving things that smelled like food? Best thing ever!

School sucked. Jude still maintained the idea that he shouldn't even be here. He'd already done it once so... why was it so hard still? The 11 year old blamed American curriculum. He'd never had to learn American history before. He'd always been under the assumption that George Washington had come to the New World with all the other pilgrims. Now he was finding out that a lot of what he had "learned" hadn't been entirely grounded in facts.

The kitchen made for the best studying atmosphere. It was much better than the library because people liked to cook and always cooked too much. Then they offered to share with those studying. That meant he had legitimate reasons to not only take a break from stupid history, but he often got to indulge in things like fresh cookies, home cooked pies and the occasional disaster. Like the semi-sentient creature that was eating his homework.

"Teachers won't belive zis."

He stood a few steps up the kitchen stairs and watched in horror as blobby dough left moist marks on his books, backpack and homework. The dough's focus seemed to be on the hallway leading to the entrance where a pan was repeatedly shoved in dough-boy's face.

Jude had run when the dough started its exponential expansion, but now that it filled most of the room it didn't seem to be growing any more. And there was just enough room for a little kid to slip by its backside and rescue some partially written essays.

He darted in and tried his hardest not to bring attention to himself.

Hearing a voice Andrew turned his head to it's source for a brief moment to see who had arrived. As luck would have it, it was Kate. Her fire abilities would come in handy in dealing with this thing but doing so inside might have some serious issues. They'd have to lure it elsewhere. There was going to be such a mess.

"We've got a bread dough monster on our hands Kate. Mutation accident I think. In either case it's huge and none too friendly. If we lured the monstrosity outside do you think your flames could take care of it?"

Another girl, blonde this time, arrived shortly after Kate. She however didn't ask what was happening. She simply mumbled something that sounded like 'fork' and stood there. Andrew would be the first to admit that had he arrived on the scene instead of being there when it began he'd probably be just as dumbstruck. However since he was a little preoccupied with beating the thing back until he got an answer from Kate he didn't console her on the inability to reach the forks just now.

As if he hadn't had enough to deal with just then Gawain's dog Angua came bolting down the hallway with wild abandon. Had he done something to warrant the anger of the heavens? However it turned out that Angua's appearance was more a blessing than a curse because the dog lept up to stand beside him and then attacked the thing in the doorway. Well, furry help was better than none Andrew supposed. Hopefully the blonde would help out some too, once she got over the shock and dismay at being unable to procure a fork. At least, that's what Andrew assumed had her standing there doing nothing.

Kate analyzed the situation trying to determine the best way to answer his question. By its size alone she may have to do something she didn't want to if plan A didn't work.

"I should be able to. We just need to find a way to get it outside." Kate didn't know the school well enough to navigate it through. If only she could get to the other side she could probably burn it from behind to make it move. Small well directed fireballs should be contained enough to not burn down the school.

As these thoughts raced through her head a girl came rushing up behind her muttering something about a fork. She was not someone that Kate had seen around before but that wasn't saying much. It seemed that you could go a month without running into the same people in this place.

And speaking of people she had met, well animals anyway, Angua came bonding down the hall barking loudly and attacked the beast. Sinking her teeth into the doughy monster.

Faye stared down the corridor as a huge dog came running down it, its speed managing to send it skidding past the kitchen before it could slow down.
She laughed as the dog picked itself up and bounded to the kitchens door, barking excitedly at something that she couldn’t see.

All right enough of this craziness. I’m getting a fork and that’s that. She moved towards the door hearing the tray wielding boy telling the girl about a supposed ‘bread dough monster’ and to see if she cook it if they could lead it outside.
Faye wrinkled her nose and smirked, whatever chief, I doubt were under attack from flour and water.
She’d admit there were a lot of ‘glooping’ noises coming from the kitchen but that could be anything right? One of the kids had probably just overloaded the bread machine.

She reached the door way and made to slip past tray boy and the barking dog, eugh SO going to need some advil later.

Whatever was going on in here she was going to ignore it, grab her fork and go eat her salad.
Right, cutlery is in the drawer by the sink which is over there behind the giant blob of dough. Wait is it moving? Oh crap.
Faye danced back from the dough blobs gelatinous movements and got behind tray boy.

“F#%k! I thought you were making it up, what did you do? Fix it! Fix it now!”

As their conjoined consciousness directed the awkward form of the wolfhound through the air, Angua’s eyes opened as wide as possible in anticipation. The bread person was moving, dispersing its delectable scent throughout the air and exciting Elizabeth and the puppy more and more. The motions of walking appealed to their eyes as well, causing them to border on ADHD. As the distance drew closer and closer together and the two females flew closer to their target, their giddiness built up to unimaginable levels.

OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY!

And then impact! Sharp and vicious teeth sank into the left arm of the dream-monster and the taste and even stronger smell nearly caused the two to overdose on it. It was so good! The rest of the canine’s body caught up then and the front legs wrapped around the arm as much as possible, holding on to the treat as best they could without opposable thumbs. In a blink of an eye, Liz was gnawing through the arm, devouring the beast as only the combination of a hungry teenage girl and an eternally starving hyper puppy could.

OM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM!

Wonderful substance filled the dog’s mouth and Elizabeth’s influx of intense emotions from Angua overflowed her mental barriers, pouring into the multitudes of animals in that part of the mansion, filling everything from big dogs to the tiniest of insects with intense happiness and satisfaction. Liz made no attempt to restrain her power. Even if it hadn’t been at the very back of her mind, happiness never hurt anything. As concentrated on chewing as much bread as possible while hanging from an arm, neither mind registered the doughy hand reaching around.

With a squelching sound, a giant fist bludgeoned the canine off the arm, sending them sailing head over tail to the floor behind it, and causing Liz to unintentionally let out a squeal of surprise.. For the second time in as many minutes, Angua and Liz were sent sliding over linoleum. The remaining kinetic force dissipated upon contact with a counter’s wall. A small bark escaped their lips and in a flash they were standing again. Happiness meter not knocked down in the slightest, they crouched the front of Angua’s body, leaving the butt up in the air, wagging its tail off. The bread was willing to play.

Swallowing the remnants of a mouthful of bread, Anguabeth howled in joy as she charged back to play with her newest friend.

Delicately he plucked a piece of paper from the sticky substance. It was oily and nearly see-through except for his cramped, all uppercase writing. It wasn't a very good essay anyway. But his books... The kid made a totally grossed out face as he pushed his hand into the goo to retrieve a partially digested book.

The sound warned him. He ducked instinctively as a dog? Yes, a dog came flying over the creature. Well, this was the mansion. He'd seen stranger. It landed and made such a sad sound that Jude thought it might be hurt. But no. The rapscallion was back on his paws in no time.

"Alright!" Bolstered by the dog's appearance he pulled at the bread's suction and finally yanked his book free of the mush, bringing more than a few morsels of dough along with it.

Big brainless un-baked bread boy didn't seem too happy with someone poking, pulling and now biting at his bum. (Go poochy!) Jude's eyes got wider, his sloppy book and homework still in his hands, as the massive thing started to... turn? Or maybe that was just a leg coming out to kick at them. Did this thing even have a head?

Kate would be able to fry the thing. That was good. Very good. Now they just had to get it outside. If Andrew remembered correctly there was a set of doors leading outside from the kitchen. Now if they could just figure out some way of maneuvering the critter out there. Andrew's line of thought was interrupted by the blonde attempting to get past him as though the dough blob wasn't there. So she'd thought he was lying? Some tiny part of Andrew was a little satisfied at the fear that prompted her to scramble backwards.

Her words however turned that pleasure right around. This was hardly his fault and if she'd stop shrieking and help out they could fix it. Stress combined with a petty annoyance colluded to rob Andrew of the normal filters he put on his conversation.

"Well sorry for the inconvenience Princess. Either help us get this thing moving or get out of the way."

Andrew would regret it later but right now it felt so good to say exactly what he was thinking. He really had no time for blonde girls that would rather shriek than do something constructive. Kate at least was going to be useful.

As Andrew was thinking these things Angua was going to town on the bread monster. That was good. Less of it to worry about. However it apparently didn't like it's arm, if that was the word for the blobby mass, getting gnawed on. Angua went flying back into the kitchen area that Andrew couldn't see. Moments later Andrew thought he heard someone shout in the kitchen and it sounded positive. Could there be someone in there? That would solve the issue of luring it out onto the grounds then! The creature turned, it's attention apparently diverted from Andrew and the hallway by Angua and whoever was within the kitchen.

"Hey! Is someone in there?"

As the pale mass of dough lurched forward Andrew managed to wedge himself between it and the doorframe to get a look at the interior of the kitchen. There was someone!

"Could you lure this guy outside? We've got a plan for getting rid of him but we can't do it inside."

Hopefully the kid would say yes. Once they got outside Kate could roast it and this would be over.

Kate looked at the girl before turning back to the dough... thing. She watched as it seemed to grow before her eyes. She really was almost positive this was gonna take all she had to cook. Dough was dense and took time to cook. Even if she threw fire at it she would have to watch the temp. It wouldn't cook all the way through without scorching the outside. This was going to be tricky to get right.

She was torn out of her thoughts when the thing seemed to turn and Andrew started yelling at someone inside the kitchen. If he could lure it out then she could figure out how to fry it. But for now she had to do a little bit of an experiment.

She lifted her hand and formed a red fire in them, concentrating to keep the temp down. She hit its back with the ball watching as it cooked in seconds. sadly only the small area around the ball cooked, not even phasing the beast. This was not going to be easy.

Princess? Who was this guy calling princess? Nobody calls me princess!!! well daddy does , But that’s it!

“Oh! Sorry little old me is inconveniencing you? I can see you’re a man of the moment Foghorn Leghorn.
Aw shucks, looks like your moments over”

She was distracted from delivering a second ever wittier rebuttal, you got nuffin girl, by the sight of the huge dog launching its attack on the blob of living dough before the blob batted the poor thing across the kitchen.
Ok that’s it! You can take my fork but no hitting dogs! This dough was going down.

Faye spun on her heel and came face to face with the girl in the hallway as she produced a ball of flames from her cupped hands before sending it wizzing into the back of the dough blob barely scorching it. Still that was a kick ass power, way better than whatever the boys was proberbly something to do with being a meany .
“Nice work hotstuff!” Faye could be a team player all she needed was a plan

You need a plan, think think think. Aha Got it!

Faye moved across the hallway a grabbed one of the fire extinguishers labelled CO2,
“Don’t worry this aint for you hotstuff” Damn it was heavier than it looked, and dragged it back across the carpet before starting to swing it backwards and forwards to build up momentum, ok girl, time to save the day .
She glanced over at the mean boy and caught his eye,

“Not helping eh? Check this out!”

She let the fire extinguisher swing forwards for the final time before letting it go, grinning and shouting “Smile you son of a bitch!” in a perfect rendition of Amity Island Police Chief Brodys voice, as she watched it spin end over end before impacting on the dough monster with a dull twap! that sent wet goo splashing up the kitchen units.
Still grinning she covered her ears and ducked against the wall, Three, Two, One, Zero! Um?
Faye glanced around the door frame as the fire extinguisher finally sunk below the doughy folds of the bread monster with a gloop.

“Hey what gives? That total should have exploded like in Jaws! I knew that movie was bull!”

An ear twitched as a voice caught Anguabeth’s attention. But the conjoined girls paid no mind to it: they were keeping their eyes, ears, nose, and miscellaneous furry appendages on the prize. Looking not unlike Wile E. Coyote when chasing Roadrunner across the desert with a fork and knife, the possessed dog darted forwards and bit down on the first thing they could grab a hold of. Which turned out to be the butt; at least that’s what Liz thought it was. She couldn’t really tell for sure, not that she would’ve if she even cared. She was having fun!

Futilely digging their paws into the slick floor for some nonexistent traction, Anguabeth tore and pulled at the doughy rump. Saliva ran freely from their mouth, the delicious taste of the bread-toy completely filling it. Oh, it was so delicious! Liz had never even thought that dogs could taste so well! To Angua, the bread monster was better than chocolate, ice cream, and pizza combined! Sweet Ambrosia! Where have you been all my life?, the two thought as one.

Then the bread under her teeth snapped off. Good thing too because she could felt he temperature drastically raise and a FWOOSH!-like sound filled her ears. Her eyes comically widened as she witnessed a great ball of fire smite the toy across the back. The sudden danger made them step back a bit, leaving the bit of bread just hanging in Angua’s mouth. Liz directed the eyes and nose away from the beast momentarily, trying to figure out why the toy was suddenly a pyro-magnet.

Then she spotted them. It was just a group of people at the doorway. Anguabeth promptly dismissed any further thought of them. They weren’t nearly close enough to steal her toy away from her. Content with that thought, and still only a few feet away from the bunster, the two hunkered down to eat their treat. As they were happily licking and gnawing away, a soquid-sounding Squelp! came from her food-friend. Half the bread in her mouth and the other half between her paws, she looked up at her newest friend and cocked her head to the side.

She could see something sinking under its bread. Then she looked for the source. It was that same group of people! As fast as a puppy can get distracted, Anguabeth was on her feet, the bread it her mouth laying on the floor. Then she was once again charging the food, laying her claim to it all. As she jumped and dodged around it, nipping away at tiny chunks of yeasty-flesh here and there, only one thought was in her mind.

MY toy!

Poochy seemed... kind of rabid. Maybe it wasn't a mutant after all but just another one of the many, many, MANY Mansions pets. He made a mental note to demand a pet from Ghost later. It would no doubt defend him in times such as these before his mutant awakening. No proper mother would deny him due protection.

From dough.

And fireballs? Jude squeaked and put his dough mottled hands and homework over his head as he ducked. As soon as danger passed he was bolt upright and shaking a fist at the other side. "Allo? Zere is people in ze back!" Though, really that wasn't an invitation for the dough man. It was a 'hey stop throwing fire at his back when you can't see who or what might be there.'

Dough creature made a movement. A sort of lurchy schlop sounded from its head. Some shouts from the other side echoed weirdly around a not-so-acoustic-friendly creature. Something about a guy outside and exploding. It could have been his English. He'd misunderstood before.

As he was puzzling through, something that looked a lot like an appendage slammed toward the wall, the same sounds echoed on the other side. A duel attack!

Jude by sharpened and carefully honed instinct stood with his mouth open and gawked. He'd been battle trained in his grown up years. That didn't mean he had much experience with it now.
