The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>“I’m a mutant too. I can manipulate water.”
Gemma blinked at him over her cup of tea. He was avoiding her gaze, which meant he was not entirely comfortable with confessing that he was a mutant. Had he looked up, he would have seen a bright and almost mischievous smile light up the woman's face. Water, he said? Now that was just... funny.
Gemma chuckled in a low voice, and it quickly turned into a laugh, as she looked at him, all awkward about the whole subject, and he just had no idea. It was a cheerful laugh, and she set the mug down onto the coffee table, measuring up the distance between the two of them. Actually, he was close to her. Well, close enough.
"You don't say" she grinned, once she finished laughing. She tilted her head at him. He said he had water powers, right?

Jorge
At first he was not sure what that rumbling was he heard before he looked up at her. I thought maybe it was a car rumbling by, or a plane flying too low above his apartment, but as he risked a look up at her, he noticed that he was wrong about all his assumptions. She did not seem fearful or angry, instead she was actually smiling. And then…that smile turned into chuckle…and then into outright laughter. And that was when he got just a little confused. It seemed to him as if she were chuckling away because she did not believe him.
>> “Show me.”
And that proved it.
A confused half-grin plastered on his face, he watched her as she remained defiantly close with a mischievous smile on her face. So she wanted a demonstration then? Fine, he would gives her one if it would wipe that smirk off her face. He was not actually mad, but if she wanted to see what he could do, then he would definitely show it. It was a matter of pride now.
“Okay then, but when I prove it…um, you owe me the chance to ask you out for dinner. Deal?” he smirked knowingly.
With that, he set his mug of tea down onto the table between them and focused on it. There were only a couple of herbs mixed into the water, no overdone chemicals so it should be easy enough for him to control the whole lot of it. As he leaned a bit forward in his chair, Jorge placed one hand out, palm pointed towards the mug and focused.
One second…
Two seconds…
Three seconds…
“What?” Jorge muttered to himself as he kept his hand stretched out.
Surprisingly he felt the same sensation from before when he got drenched by the passing taxi. There was nothing. No tug in his gut, not feeling of connection with the warmed water in the mug. Instead, again, it just felt like a hole in his body, like something was taken away or suppressed. He could feel nothing from the water, he could not feel it running through the pipes around his building, he was taken out of the loop again.
“Wait…what’s going on?” he muttered as he looked a little bewildered at Gemma. “I swear, I’m not making it up. I am a mutant…”

>>“Okay then, but when I prove it…um, you owe me the chance to ask you out for dinner. Deal?”
Gemma kept grinning and she nodded. Dinner, sure. She could live with that. Or could have, if Jorge actually had any chance to win the bet. Which he did not. She was standing too close to him for that. She watched as he held his hands out towards the cup of water. She had no doubt he had powers, and she had no doubt it would have been an easy task for him, if his powers weren't blocked. She waited curiously for his reaction.
>>“What? Wait…what’s going on? I swear, I’m not making it up. I am a mutant…”
"I don't doubt that." she nodded with the smirk still playing on her lips. She took a fes steps back; she made sure she was far enough from him before she stopped, folding her arms over her chest.

Jorge
>> "I don't doubt that."
A lot of what was going on here simply was not making any sense. He felt fine all day today. He felt like normal, mutant power Jorge and for some reason, his powers were being iffy today. They did not seem to want to work with any consistency. First the street puddle and now the tea mug…something weird was going on. And from Gemma’s tone is seemed almost as if she knew something that she simply was not telling him. Then, noted that she got up and appeared to be retreating from him. When she had gotten a certain distance away, she stopped and he could only watch her a little confused until she spoke again.
>>”Try again. And do the math.”
Well there was a little bite in that tone wasn’t there? Jorge thought with a smirk as he stood up, but did not step any closer to her.
Upon her request, Jorge looked down at the mug of tea once more and raised his hand over it. There was second or two where he felt like he was not sure if he wanted to do it, but as he stood there watching her and that smirk, he knew he had to listen, to prove not only to himself that her that he was a mutant, but to himself as well. So, hand over the mug, he suddenly waved his hand and curled his fingers.
Shwwwwwwwish!
The tea immediately responded and he was once more connected with that liquid which swirled within. He felt the pull of the water, the strings he used to connect himself with it and manipulate to his heart’s desire. And before her he started his display. The water slithered in mid-air like an amorphous snake that swirled and issued off droplets whenever it turned too fast. The clear, amber colored liquid made a beautiful display as it turned into complex knots, weaved in and out of itself before he suddenly broke it apart into three, equally shaped globes of tea. The spun and danced around each other like a mini solar system before their eyes, and with another gesture, Jorge recombined them all into a single glob of liquid and settled it calmly back down into the mug on the coffee table.
He felt normal again. And all because… He stopped and looked across to her.
“You. The street puddle…the tea here…the only common thing that was present at both times my abilities failed…was because of you?” After a second of thought, Jorge finally started to chuckle and shook his head at this information. “You blocked my powers. Somehow…you kept me using them.” He finally just laughed out loud and sat back down on the sofa and watched her closely. He was in shock, awe, and surprise, things he has always tried to steer himself clear from. But after a second and he nodded her, a wide smile playing on his lips. “So I guess I lost the bet. You know…I’ve been rejected a lot in my time, but I have to admit, this is this the first time a woman negated my abilities in order to avoid going out with me. Kudos to you.”
Jorge could not help but laugh goodnaturedly as he took another sip of tea.

Gemma laughed too; at least Jorge was not making a fuss about someone tampering with his powers. Many mutants didn't like it one bit when their abilities were blocked; most of them felt helpless and vulnerable. She walked back to him and sat down again.
"That's a neat ability, you know" she smiled, picking up her mug "I haven't met a waterbender in person before."
But she'd heard a lot about them. Kids talked about abilities all the time anyway, and this one seemed to be very popular for some reason.
"As or the bet, I really can't help but win" she chuckled "I can't turn my aura off. Any mutant within range loses his ability."
She looked at him for a moment; now that the powers were on the table, there was only one thing left. Did he really just ask her out?
"Looks like we'll have to make another bet. Or, you know, you could just ask me."

Jorge could smirk as he sat at the edge of his chair and watched as Gemma came back and returned to her seat across from him. Sure it was a bit odd that he met someone who could negate his powers, but at least she wasn’t an enemy. If circumstances had been different and they were on opposite sides of the law, he knew she would be a tough cookie to take down. But…as he watched her closely, he knew that she was no enemy right now. Right now, she was simply a nice woman whom he had met in the park and he had offered her a right back to her place…with a small detour at his.
>> "That's a neat ability, you know…I haven't met a waterbender in person before."
“I actually make a better impression when I’m not surprised by a wall of street water coming at me,” he said with a grin and raised his cup to her. “And I’ve never met anyone who could stop my abilities cold turkey. It’s an honor to meet you and I hope I never have run into a criminal with those abilities.”
There was a brief moment where the two of them simply regarded each other in a silence. Most secrets had been revealed, the biggest was that each of them was special in one way or another. Then, Gemma pretty much brought up something he, for some reason had forgotten he had said earlier.
>> "Looks like we'll have to make another bet. Or, you know, you could just ask me."
I did ask her first…didn’t I? Jorge thought as he watched her closely.
He placed the mug of tea back onto the table and gave her an awkward smile. It must have been a funny scene for her to bear witness to. Here was this gruff, tough looking police detective of New York, who threw his life on the line everyday he was out, dealing with mutant criminals and doing his best to say lives, yet…this seemed like it was the hardest thing for him. But it was not because he did not want to. It was obvious that he did. Unfortunately, finding the correct words was the tough part.
Finally he simply threw caution to the wind and just nodded at her statement with another small smile.
“Well, if you want to do this the easy way,” he chuckled and cleared his throat. “I know we just met, but…I would like to have the chance to get to know you more. Would you…be willing to accompany me to dinner some night when you’re free? I promise, Lizzie won’t come along either,” he said. Always end with a joke.

Gemma raised her cup too with a smile.
"Amen to that."
She had never met anyother adapted who was a criminal, or who would have been dangerous; true enough, she hadn't met many adapteds to beign with, and those she'd met she didn't know very well. She could imagine how it would be all kinds of difficult for a mutant to deal with (or fight) one of them. He was right. Lucky hey were on the same side.
>>“I know we just met, but…I would like to have the chance to get to know you more. Would you…be willing to accompany me to dinner some night when you’re free? I promise, Lizzie won’t come along either,”
There it went; the guy lost the bet, so the only thing left for him was to ask her fair and square. He did a decent job too, considering the whole situation. Neither of them were teenagers, or anything. She had grown-up kids and an ex husband, and he, well, was a police officer. And Lizzie was a small white dog.
"I don't know..." Gemma smirked, glancing towards said dog who was still snoring peacefully "... I wouldn't want to make her feel left out or anything." she chukled, before she turned back to Jorge. "All right, dinner sounds fine. I'm on duty at the school 24/7, but I guess if one of te kids gets into real trouble when I'm out, you'll be the first to hear about it anyway..." she grinned "So, dinner it is."

Jorge
At first Jorge was a little taken back when started to speak, but one he realized that she was talking about Lizzie, he had to grin to himself. The woman does have a great sense of humor he thought with another inside chuckle. And when she had said yes, he felt accomplished, strong…then immediately was refilled with anxiety. Great what was he going to do? Where would they go? It really had been too long since he last did something like this so he felt just a little out of the loop. But then, he merely chided himself thoughtfully for thinking of those things. He closed the door on them, pushed to the back of his mind and calmed again. They were issues he would take on when the time came for them.
>> "So, dinner it is."
“Dinner,” he replied in confirmation with a warm smile. “Say…Saturday night? If that night is clear for you.”
He was glad that this awkwardness was finally out of the way. He had a date with an extremely attractive woman and she knew he was mutant…and a cop. And she still said yes. Unfortunately in his experience most women get turned off by the prospect of going on a date with him. Either they feared he would not be able to commit because of his work, or they wanted the sheer danger and thrill of dating someone who spend his day in the underbelly of the city. Neither of those things he cared for…but so far, Gemma seemed different. And he was glad for it.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw his wall clock.
“Wow,” he muttered before he turned back to her. “I promised to take you home and end up wrangling you into my apartment.” He shook his head with mock-irritation of himself. “Well I guess better late than never. That is, if you’re ready of course. I’m really not trying to kick you out.”
He smiled that winning smile again, the one he did not know he could produce unless he was really happy about something, and started to collect his things to finally give the woman he met in Central Park the trip home he had promised her.

>>“Dinner. Say…Saturday night? If that night is clear for you.”
"Sounds good." Gemma nodded, finishing her tea. So, she had a date. She hadn't been on a date for a long while; not since, well, since the kids turned teenagers and the last thing they needed was a long line of prospective stepdads messing up their life. And Gemma's life too. She had too many people to care for and help to deal with boyfriends. Yes.
>>“I promised to take you home and end up wrangling you into my apartment. Well I guess better late than never. That is, if you’re ready of course. I’m really not trying to kick you out.”
"It's all right" she chuckled, standing up "I should head back to the school anyway. You can never know what those kids are gonna eat up if don't bring them some decent food. You know. A mother's work never ends." she added with a smirk before she picked up her belongings. "Let's go."
