The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"The class is working on greetings at the moment but as you can see I haven't even gotten past the alphabet yet."
"Okay" Svetlana nodded, looking at the notes "There is no much about the letters, you just sit down and learn, and practice. When you do that, I can help you practice. Tell you what to write down and things."
At least that's how the Matchmaker did it.
"Greetings, you can learn without writing down." she added "It is easy, if you use it. You can learn to write, later."
He didn't look convinced.
"It is easy." she tried "Russian, it's a pretty language. And great things to read. Useful."
You can always order yourself a bride, for one...

Andrew had to give Svetlana a smile. She was trying. With luck the two of them would manage to get this thing figured out. In either case this was better than any of his other trips to cafes recently. Not that he was going to trust the lack of issues. If anything it just made him more suspicious.
"Well I'll take your word for it Svetlana. So which would you prefer to work on first? The letters or greetings and such?"
Heck, maybe once he learned a bit of Russian he could speak with Svetlana using that instead of English. He'd get the practice and she'd get to use her native tongue. Andrew doubted that she got to speak it too often here. He took another drink of his latte. This wasn't so bad actually.
>>"Well I'll take your word for it Svetlana. So which would you prefer to work on first? The letters or greetings and such?"
Sveta chuckled, and hid a smile in the mug of chocolate.
Sveta dear, all you need to know is how to speak. No man will ever ask you to write anything down. To tell the truth, they probably won't require you to be able to write at all.
"We can start with the greetings."
Sveta spent the next half an hour - the time span of a mug of hot chocolate and a latte - teaching Andrew how to say 'privyet', and 'dobroye utro', and 'dasvidania', and other important basic things. She was very patient; it amused her to listen to someone try to pronounce words that came so naturally to her. After half an hour, she decided she needed more chocolate.
"I will be right back." she smiled as she stood, walking away from Andrew. Her cafeine aura followed. The guy needed some rest.

Sitting back, Andrew took another drink of his latte and drained it. They'd worked for half an hour before they stopped. His grasp of the words was getting better. As Svetlana stood and went to the counter to go get herself more hot chocolate Andrew felt the energetic feeling leave him. Whatever it was, it was linked to her and proximity to her. That one word that united him with some of the people he met and divided him from others came to his mind. Mutant. Another coffee shop another mutant. Maybe mutants as a whole just liked coffee. That seemed as likely as any other reason he might keep visiting coffee shops with them.
He wouldn't mention it just yet. Andrew didn't think she'd react too well to him just accusing her of being a mutant. No he'd let Svetlana keep her secret. It was her secret to divulge if she decided to. Until then he'd keep things as simple as the tutor/student relationship they had currently. Not that one tutoring session made for a relationship. Andrew kept to his seat for now. Maybe he'd go for another latte later.
Sveta returned with her hot chocolate, and a smile. She wondered if Andrew had noticed the sudden rush of energy, and the lack of it. Mutnts tended to, sooner or later. Of course, what are the odds that Andrew would be a mutant. Or even know a simple fact about mutants. Sveta was better off not trying to find out.
"So, where were we." she smiled, looking at the notes "You learn fast, you know. I think I can teach you some more phrases, that, people use a lot, and then, we can try the letters."
Useful phrases came first. Another thing from the Matchmaker's English lessons. You won't ever write 'Help'. You'll scream it.
"What else you want to know how to say?"

He was getting used to the ebb and flow of that sensation of well being that Svetlana brought with her. Andrew knew it had to be caused by a mutation but he didn't want to pry. Nope he'd stick with the Russian tutoring for now. Heck he was actually starting to enjoy it now that he'd figured it out.
Andrew thought about it for a moment. What else did he want to learn? Svetlana didn't seem too keen to start on the alphabet so maybe he'd just manage that on his own. Just knowing how to pronounce the words was doing wonders for his comprehension anyway. Maybe some day to day expressions and the word help. To Andrew's mind, as a mutant on could never know enough ways to shout for help.
"How about some day to day expressions? You know stuff you'd use in everyday life. Oh and help. I'd like to learn how to say or ask for help definitely."
Let Svetlana make of that what she would. The life of a mutant in New York City wasn't allowed to be dull it seemed. Therefore learning how to shout for help in another language could be useful.
>>"How about some day to day expressions? You know stuff you'd use in everyday life. Oh and help. I'd like to learn how to say or ask for help definitely."
Sveta grinned, in a not so ladylike manner. Smart boy.
"That is a useful thing to know." she nodded "Pomogite. That is how you call help."
She let him practice a couple of times, and ate the cream off the top of the hot chocolate.
"You know, the lady who teach me English, she said you need to know three things in a language: 'help', 'watch out', 'I would like a glass of water'." she smirked "I say it with alcohol, da?"

Apparently the request wasn't so odd. In fact it earned him a downright grin from Svetlana instead of the charming smiles she'd been throwing since they'd met. Andrew liked it. He tried the word out a few time, just to make sure he could pronounce it right. Lord knows he didn't want to think he was shouting for help and end up sounding like he's shouting for potatoes or whatever instead.
Once he'd got the hang of the word Svetlana made another comment that had Andrew smirking. Help, watch out, and I would like a glass of water huh?
"Sounds like she was a smart lady. You never know who or what you'll end up meeting here in NYC."
>>"Sounds like she was a smart lady. You never know who or what you'll end up meeting here in NYC."
Smart lady. Oh yeah. You have no idea.
"That is also true." she nodded with a smirk. She'd met a lot of people, and got into a lot of trouble, since she arrived here. And even the people she'd expected to meet turned out to be something entirely different...
"There are other things useful to know" she added "Like, 'I am not buying anything.' and 'Where is the bathroom?' and... things." she chuckled "And if you want people let you alone, you can speak Russian, and they do. See, it is useful."

Andrew was beginning to get used to Svetlana in that he wasn't quite so nervous now. Even if she was a mutant her mutation didn't seem that much more useful than his. At least that was the case by what he could tell by the amount of energy and brighter outlook he seemed to possess when she was around as opposed to when he was out of her range. At any rate he felt at ease enough to smirk at Svetlana's comment. She was a lot more funny than he'd have thought her to be.
"Very useful. Who knows, maybe I'll keep taking it this fall. Well, that is if I can count on your help. Somehow I think I wouldn't be near as successful at learning Russian without your help."
Was he flirting? Maybe. She was beautiful after all. However he was also curious about whether or not she was a mutant. Andrew wouldn't have put it past himself to simply be imagining things. He didn't want to come right out and ask her so soon after meeting her though. Such things were important secrets in a society that feared differences.

Sveta smiled. She just got herself a student. Also, a source of income. That was not a bad start, for the first day of her tutoring career.
"You learn fast" she nodded; he really did. If he could keep that up, they could go on to conversation instead of basics in no time at all "If you want to be my student, I help you. You tell me what you learn in school, and I can plan lessons. And we practice. Sounds good?"
It was fun, actually having a job. Kinda.
"You will be as good in Russian as I am in English. Very soon." she added with a grin

Andrew returned the smile he was given. He had no idea whether it was just the fact that he'd gotten help or whether it was the person he'd gotten to help. Either way Russian seemed ten times easier when he was chatting with Svetlana about it.
"Sounds great."
She was a good tutor. Andrew hadn't felt pressured at all and she'd kept things light and funny even. He'd be willing to bet she'd have a good business if she kept at it.
"Well I doubt that but maybe I won't be maiming it quite so badly."
Compared to where he'd been when they started this little session he'd come quite a ways already. However, that didn't mean he was anywhere near fluent.
>>"Well I doubt that but maybe I won't be maiming it quite so badly."
"That work too." Sveta grinned, and finished off the chocolate. "I think, it is enough for one lesson."
She didn't want to teach him too much at once; things needed to settle down before one was ready for learning new ones. That, she also knew from experience.
"So, we meet again soon?" she asked him with a smile as she started to collect the notes and papers from the table, at least the ones that belonged to her "I not have other students right now, so you tell me when you have time."

Andrew gave a nod in response to her question of ending the session and began collecting his books and notes from the mess on the table. He'd certainly learned a lot, more than he had from his lessons.
"Yeah soon. It depends on the day but evenings are usually good for me. I'll give you a call tomorrow and we can get something set up."
Andrew packed the books and notes into his bag and figured he'd get himself one more latte for the trek back to his apartment before hitting the road.
"I'm going to go grab something to drink and head out. I'll see you soon."
>>"Yeah soon. It depends on the day but evenings are usually good for me. I'll give you a call tomorrow and we can get something set up."
"Sounds good." Sveta nodded with a smile as she stood. "See you around, Andrew. Dasvidania."
She walked out of the café, and back to the Clinic. It was right across the street, so it wasn't a long walk; she smiled to herself. Teaching Andrew will be fun. He was a smart student. Maybe not a fan of Russian language, but at least he was willing to learn, for whatever reason.
Sveta glanced back at the café before she entered the Clinic. Yup. Things were definitely looking up.
