The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gears swore vehemently, trust the police to respond on time the one incident he didn't need them to. Gears snapped back at the floating man who was unfortunately putting two plus two together in a manner that was going to make Gears lose his temper. "We beat up a bunch of their red neck rascist buddies, ok?" If the guy chose to believe them, good; if not, not so good... Gears shook his head regardless and continued muttering between breaths, "Jeez all I've ever wanted is piece of mind, apparently a car can't walk across a park no more without having to talk to people! Not to mention I'm late! Gah..."
Gears' musings and gripes dwindled off as he concentrated on keeping ahead of the cops, they'd reach the road soon and then Gears would be able to escape all this mayhem. He kept a wary eye on this floating mutant, while Gears could move his arm again it still hurt and he knew very little about this irritating man's power. He didn't want to have to fight mutants and police, at some point he'd go down and then he'd be properly f*cked... Best to stick to the plan.
>>"We beat up a bunch of their red neck rascist buddies, ok?"
Andrew didn't look over his shoulder, he kept focused ahead, tin-man seemed to have a clue about what to do, which was more than Andrew. He made an effort to keep his breathing steady but running and maintaining a conversation was something he wasn't accustomed to.
"Beat up? Happened a bit too fast to qualify for that. Self-defence is more accurate... sounds better too."
Andrew began to wonder whether running was such a good plan when there were two armed men behind him who would probably be happy to shoot him. He'd be okay if he used his ability but there'd be no way to keep up. The moment of uncertainty ended as he decided there was safety in numbers.
"I'm surprised he got up so fast, guess I held back too much."
>>"We beat up a bunch of their red neck rascist buddies, ok?"
Kyle's eyes narrowed. He hadn't been in New York for long but he'd already seen how anti-mutant people could be. When the robot-man started rambling about how he wasn't even able to go for a walk in peace Kyle put two and two together and came up with 'police deliberately provoking mutant robot into fight.'
>>"Beat up? Happened a bit too fast to qualify for that. Self-defence is more accurate... sounds better too."
The other man's comment proved what Kyle had been thinking, but now he was faced with a dilema. The anti-mutant police were coming after these two, and the two uninjured cops with the radio had obviously heard of what had happened. Worse they'd seen Kyle floating in front of the two people they were chasing.
"Oh, bother. The cops provoked you, didn't they?" Without waiting for a response Kyle continued. "And now the anti-mutant police men are chasing you, and have seen me floating. I hope you've got a plan to get out of this." He said, getting slightly worked up near the end.
Gears sped up, now that the back up was rolling in he wanted to get the hell out of dodge. He saw the road and began sprinting, hearing the floater whining about needing a plan Gears grunted a swift retort, "This car always has an escape plan!" Pulling away from the others he pumped his legs as fast as the pistons and servos would allow him. He leapt for the road and as he did he began the systematic transformation he was used to. His wheels thumped in to the tarmac with a dodgy bounce, his arm was slowing his transformation still even though it mostly felt better. Gears gave a silent yelp but kept going, not that anyone else would have noticed a yelp in the blur that was Gear's transforming chassis. The outside build clunked in to place and his insides whirred and screeched as the doors flapped down in to their rightful positions. Inside parts slotted correctly and within moments Gears was a fully fledged Audi R8, his engine revving with anticipation. The two back doors sprang open and the radio clicked in to life once more, "So get in brothers, you wanted an escape plane? I am the escape plan!" He hoped they got in before those cops reached them, he did not want to get tasered in this form! Gears could taste the adrenaline of escape, it was tantalisingly close.
>>"And now the anti-mutant police men are chasing you, and have seen me floating. I hope you've got a plan to get out of this."
"Heh, it's not like you had to come and talk to the tin-man... not like I did either."
As the machine man accelerated away Andrew sped up to try and keep pace, running flat out, but the distance between the two grew as they approached the road. This gave Andrew a good view of the weird process that occurred, as the metallic mutant spent a few minutes seeming to fold both in and out of himself like a strange grey four-dimensional rubiks cube and eventually ending up as a pretty nice car. The two back doors opened on their own.
>>"So get in brothers, you wanted an escape plan? I am the escape plan!"
Andrew began to decelerate as he got closer to the road, but not fast enough. He hit the open near-side door, getting close to winding himself, and let himself fold down into the seat.
"Sorry... so what's your name? Or should I keep calling you tin-man?"
Since he was keeping an eye on the approacing police men Kyle only got a glimpse of the robot's pieces re-arranging, but he did hear him refer to himself as a car with an escape plan and then, wham, the other man ran into a car.
>>"So get in brothers, you wanted an escape plan? I am the escape plan!" Seeing the other man slip in the closet door Kyle sent a burst through his feet and flung himself over the car, skidding to a stop on the far side where he quickly slid inside.
>>"Sorry... so what's your name? Or should I keep calling you tin-man?" Hearing the other man talking to the dash-board Kyle figuired that the robot and the car were one in the same. That made the robot's mutation pretty cool in Kyle's opinion.
Kyle waited until either he was asked his name or told the car's name before giving his own name. "I'm Kyle, what was your name?" He asked the other man.
Gears slammed the doors after them and skidded his wheels in to life, the two cops dogged up behind but not before Gears had pulled away. His tyres screeched and the engine flared noisily as he tore off from the scene, rounding a corner before slowing to lose himself in the lazy traffic that cushioned them. He heard sirens but they were a way off and unless one got lucky they weren't going to find him in the NYC, Gears had driven here for far too long to be caught out so easily.
"Hah..." Gears crackled through the radio, "Tin man, what a name. No, son, you can call me Gears. What are your names then? Oh and please, no eating back there this is a body not a taxi!" The floating courier was called Kyle, Gears felt it slightly odd to hear a mutants real name. Generally such information was withheld so to protect identities, either for their sake or their families. For Gears, it was definitely his own sake, he didn't want other people knowing his name and tracking him down. Hell no. He crawled round a corner inauspiciously and drove towards Queens, he'd drop these two somewhere before he got back to his place but it was worth at least heading in the direction of home. He'd definitely missed his meeting, Gears sighed softly as the wheel, pedals and gear stick moved as if controlled by a phantom. Gears couldn't see how it looked but he felt it, it must be awesome to witness. Maybe he'd film it one day just to see...
Andrew was trying to treat everything normally, it was an incredibly surreal day for him but it had all happened within a matter of minutes, being calm was the only way he could think of dealing with the situation. It turned out that the tin-man's name was Gears, it was oddly appropriate... maybe one of his parents was a clairvoyant mutant with a sense of humour?
Andrew grabbed his shirt and looked down, inspecting the two small burn holes. It was a shame really since it was one of his favourite shirts. Sighing he let go of his shirt and looked up, noticing the direction the combined chauffeur and car was taking.
So the car/robot was named Gears huh? As he watched the buildings pass by Kyle wondered if this mutant had been born looking like he did now or if Gears was what he called himself when he became a robot. He thought it was the second, since a little robot baby being born to a human couple seemed unlikely. Unless Gears' parents were robots too? Considering Gears had apparently just been harrased by the police for being a mutant Kyle thought it would be polite not to ask.
>>"Heading for Queens?" The other man, Andrew asked as he fiddled with some scorch marks on his shirt. Kyle absently wondered what had happened to get him involved in the little altercation with the police as he watched the pedals, steering wheel and gearstick moving by themselves. It was rather unnerving to tell the truth, like the car was possessed or something.
Seeing a shop coming up on the side of the road Kyle spoke again. "I was actually headed over to that shop on the corner there anyway, so I guess this is my stop." He said.
"No problems Kyle, I hope your ride with the Gears express was a fun one!" Gears found it vaguely amusing that the kid wanted out so fast after making the effort to meet them, but Gears had a weird mutation and not many could take it all in at once. "If you ever see a giant walking car again, say hi or something...." The door popped open on Kyle's side and Gears felt the stale, warm air wander retardedly in to his interior. It was a tad hot if he was honest, it made his metal sheen with a simmering heat that had always felt oddly pleasant; in the same way the gentle rumble of his engines reassured him somewhat.
The other guy was shifting around, Gears couldn't see but he was possibly uncomfortable or maybe fiddling with something. Gears directed his questions to him instead, "So how'd you survive the taser, Andrew? You got quick reflexes or something?" A few parts within Gears twinged at thye mention of 'taser', he still felt a little shaken by that... "Where do you wanna be dropped off, A? This car has the time."
>>"I was actually headed over to that shop on the corner there anyway, so I guess this is my stop."
The car-man Gears slowed to a stop and popped open a door, the heated wafted in and Andrew found himself impressed at how good Gears air-conditioning was, it seemed the transformation was much more than just cosmetic.
"See ya Kyle."
Andrew then heard Gears' voice coming from the radio again, it was an interesting way of talking, certainly made sense for a car... that could talk.
>>"So how'd you survive the taser, Andrew? You got quick reflexes or something?"
"Nothing like that, I'm a mutant too..."
It felt weird for him to say it out loud, ever since his mutation had manifested he'd made concerted efforts to conceal it but now he was freely admitting it, the series of events just gone having helped to unsettle him from his usual secrecy.
"...looks like once your skin gets dense enough it's critical voltage exceeds what a taser can put out."
>>"Where do you wanna be dropped off, A? This car has the time."
"I was heading back to my apartment in the city when I met you, I'm okay being dropped off here, it's easy to make my own way back."
"Well, I guess I'll see you around. Nice meeting you both and I hope the cops leave you alone from now on Gears." Kyle felt a little silly talking to a car, but given the car could talk back he thought it was alright.
Kyle waved as the man/car pulled away from the curb and vanished into the traffic. 'Well, that was fun.' He thought. 'Who'd have thought walking through central park would get you caught up in a little chase, or let you meet a robot that could turn into a car?' He thought about how bigoted people seemed towards mutants and wasn't reassured that the police seemed to have mutant haters too.
Gears mentally nodded and finished with, "Not a problem, bro'. Leave a number on paper in the glove compartment and I'll keep in touch. Remember, being a mutant isn't a bad thing buddy!" As Andrew got out, Gears pulled away and cranked up the hip hop to an ear-blasting rave as he sped off home. It had been an interesting day to say the least...
