The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"I have a gun you could have" Aura offered not even considering the idea might be inappropriate. "i'm not much good with them myself but they can do damage" she said with a shrug. She figured it would serve the purpose of helping her defend herself until her powers emerged, she ahd to admit she was very curious on the idea of what they might be and how much it would ahve to do with her eyes if at all. Sometimes things happened mutation wise that seemed to have no point or purpose.
"i do not know really, i would imagine he only got that strong when his powers emerged though" Aura said having never talked to abyss about the matter. "I was unaware i was a mutant until my powers emerged but im also not one whose power makes them stand out, like you and abyss, in many ways i wish iw as" she said honestly. It was a good question to consider however and one she would ahve to talk to abyss about later.
"Well then we should just go to the zoo and get one" she said completely unaware that zoos did not normally just give animals away and that they certainly did not hand teenage girls dangerous animals. "Yes i want to see what it looks like, Im sure abyss will love the idea" she said figuring abyss would love to see the animal, after all he seemed to generally go with the flow.
"As you wish" she said as she enterd the Sanctuarys massive dining room. "The people here will make you anything you like, as long as it's legal" she said with a alugh she ahd never tried but she very much figured they would not cook human for her. "I wa ssurpised when i first came here, how much verity their really is with food, but as i said you can have whatever you want, it's all free to people who live here" she explained highlighting this so her new sister would not hesitate to order whatever she really liked. "Hey chef, i want a double order of chicken fingers hot" she said with a smile and the man nodded and called back to the cooks.
Amber was a little afraid of using a gun. She had seen them before, but had never even picked one up. Her guardians certainly wouldn't have let her have one and she hadn't been the type to go against there wishes. Life had been difficult enough back then without also having to deal with constantly trying to fight with the people of authority in her life. Making things as easy as possible was the only way she had been able to survive there as long as she had. "Th-thank you. B-but I d-don't know how to use a g-gun." Well, beyond the obvious of point and shoot, of course. She at least got that concept.
"You d-didn't always k-know you were a mutant?" At least that meant that it might still be possible for Amber to develop powers of her own. If both Aura and Abyss had, at one point been normal, then her own powers might just be a little delayed in actually manifesting. It would be a more comforting thought if she could actually guarantee that that was the case. Hadn't she also heard about mutants that didn't' have any powers? With her luck she would be one of those. "How d-do you think I could d-discover m-my powers?" That's what she really wanted to know. Then she could stop stressing out so much about it.
"I d-don't think they just give you animals at the z-zoo." Amber giggled at the thought, a shy quiet sound but a genuine happy sound nevertheless. On the way to the kitchen Amber stopped at her room, grabbing a book out of her suitcase. It was one of her favourite books, not that she owned very many, about reptiles. She had always loved animals, both present day ones and those that had been extinct, in some cases for millions of years. Turning to the correct page in the book, she showed the picture to Aura of the komodo dragon. "They can grow up t-to t-ten feet long and weigh up t-to 150 pounds." She was proud of her knowledge, even if she would probably never get her dragon.
"I'll have w-what sh-she's having," Amber told the cook. Now that she was down in the kitchen among people, she was once again feeling very self conscious.
"yea' i don' really know either other then aim and shoot" she confessed having only used it a few times and even then she had rarely managed to cause any real damage with it. "Well the only other thing i know how to fight with are pipe bombs and my aura itself" she said unsure what else to teach the girl. She did not know much in the way of martial arts really. "You may need to ask Abyss on this" she said honestly not really thinking she could teach her much more on the idea of defense.
"No not at all, my first indication was when i killed that girl, hard to deny your a mutant when your highlighted in pink" she said with a smile. "I don't recall my birth family well at all, can't even recall their faces though i ebleive they lived in thsi city, but i guess they disliked mutants or they would have tried to save me" she said though she did not appear to be bothered by this at all.
"probably not and probably even less often to teenage girls" she admitted "so if i were to have my guess at it, the legal way is likely out" she went on. "But that's not to say things don't turn up missing every now and then" she said with a laugh. "But then if i cared much about that i would have returned solkat" she said getting more comfortable with telling her new sister of her habits. She wa snot the most legal of people and she knew her sister would find out sooner or later anyway.
"I had a parrot once, but after i played chase with it for a few minutes it flew off and has not come back, i figure it will when it wnats compony" she said not getting the idea normal animals did not come back like that. As she got her food she began to eat it looking up at her sister as her food was also brought to the table she said "you like spicy food to?"
"I'll t-talk to A-Abyss," Amber agreed. It seemed like a good idea and she did need to get to know her new father more anyway. Surely he wouldn't want anything bad to happen to her, so surely he would teach her how to properly and safely use a gun. Besides, using a pipe bomb seemed to be a little much. The fact that her sister had just admitted to using one herself didn't quite register in Amber's mind.
"We're b-both orphans then." Amber said the words a little sadly but there was something comforting about the fact that neither of them knew their birth family. There was kinship there, beyond even the fact that they were adopted sisters. It was one more thing to tie them together. "M-maybe your birth family isn't what's i-important. M-maybe all that m-maters is that you have a family now." It was something that Amber was truly coming to believe. She had always felt so inadquete because she never had a family but now that she had a family her past didn't seem to matter any more.
"Nothing all that b-bad could happen if we t-took the dragon right?" Amber was vaguely disconcerted about the fact of actually stealing something; it wasn't something she had ever done before, but she also knew that she really really wanted to have a komodo dragon and no one had ever given her the opportunity to actually have one before. It wasn't like they were talking about actually hurting anyone and it wasn't like the zoo really needed the dragon to stay in business or anything like that. So really, it wasn't all that bad was it? She really hoped the answer was no because she really really wanted that dragon
"S-sometimes I like spicy f-food," Amber agreed, taking a bite of her own meal and finding it to be surprisingly good, especially compared to what she was used to eating at the orphanage. "I'm n-not all that picky."
"that is very true, your family are those who care about you and are willing to protect you with their life's, those who would simply abandon you do not matter" Aura said believing this to be very true. It was one of the core reasons why Aura felt no need to find her birth family, in fact if she did Aura knew she could kill them without a word or a question, their excuses simply did not matter.
"well im sure the zoo people would not be happy, but their might be abetter way anyway, at work i know some guys who deal with exotic animals, i may be able to convince them to let us buy one" she said the idea dawning on her that a certain mutant insurance policy had lapsed that would be perfect for this situation. She had no idea if they had a dragon but who knew what they might have. Aura was not even sure komodo dragons were exotic, rare, or large.
"Me nether, back in the woods, we ate whatever we could catch, Deer, squirrel, rabbits and even birds" she said deciding to leave out the number of times they had eaten human. The girl seemed nervous enough without the idea of her sister eating people. For some reason which aura barely considered while eating people seemed to have quite the issue with it. Finishing her food, the Orderd some pepsi for them both not sure what amber actually liked. "If you like other soda they have it, this place would serve life cow if you wanted" she said which she believed was likely true.
Amber still wasn't used to even having a family, let alone one that actually seemed to care about her. It was like every dream she had ever had growing up, lost and alone in the orphanage, had suddenly come true. No one could possibly be as fortunate as she was but she couldn't help but feel that in some way she was too fortunate. Something bad was sure to happen because something bad always happened. Even if she never got a power, life was simply too good for it to last. And if she did develop a power? Then whatever that bad thing was that was inevitably going to occur would be twice as bad.
"I've n-never had a f-family before," Amber said. Hope coloured her words, hope that everything that happened was true. "I'm honoured t-to have you as m-my s-sister." Truer words had never come out of her mouth.
The idea of buying her komodo dragon rather than stealing it made Amber feel so much better about the entire situation and she nodded her enthusiastic approval. She wasn't certain that a pet store, exotic or not, would actually have one but even if they didn't have the dragon of her dreams, surely they must at least have something worth while. The komodo dragon might be the biggest and most impressive of the big lizards, but it certainly wasn't the only one. "When can we g-get one?" she asked her big sister, unable to cover her excitement. Not that she tried very hard; after all, Aura was her sister and you shouldn't hid things from sisters.
"Y-you at squirrel?" Amber giggled at the prospect. The food she was used to might not have been of the highest quality, but she had never spent much time in the woods and certainly never eaten furry little animals before.
"Im glad to have you as family as well" she responded back to her new found sister. In the back of her head Aura hoped this would go better then her last two. Her first had left her to rot and the second was killed, although family might have been stretching that one. Still she was stronger now and she could only hope that would count for something, she could protect her no matter what came their way and if not her then abyss could surely do what she could not.
"In a few days, i will make my rounds to that house, we can ask then what they have or can obtain" aura said having no idea the entire operation the guy ran who she was going to ask was entirely illegal. Aura knew littile about the finer point sof the law other then don't kill, steal or destroy thing's you do not own, all three of which she often violated and was wanted for. They also got mad when you killed cops and aura was trying toa void them for the time being, as they atracted more attention and anger although she still did it anyway more often then she was sure frosty would like.
"when we were in the woods, we could not go to a store normelly, we had no or little money and humans usually shot at us, so we ate what we could catch or recover" she said knowing much of what they got that was not wild game was liberated from the fallen humans, even if it had been a few times the humans meat itself. "Rabbit tastes better though, birds tend to taste bad to" she said shaking her head a bit. They ahd eaten small birds before which barely had any meat on them at all so she preferred deer to it.
Amber had no idea about Aura's history with her previous family and even if she did wouldn't have had any context with which to understand it. All that she knew, at that moment, was that only days before she didn't have any sort of family nor any hope of ever having one and now she did and her new family made her the happiest person in the world.
"M-make your r-rounds?" Amber had no idea what rounds her sister could possibly be talking about. "C-can I c-come?" All she knew as that she wanted to spend as much time with Aura as possible. Rounds must have something to do with responsibilities she had around Sanctuary, or maybe some sort of responsibilities that Abyss had given her. Either way, Amber wanted to be a part of it and if she needed to do something to contribute to Sanctuary in order to stay there, she wanted to do that too.
Amber nodded at her sister's description of the forest. She had rarely even been out of the city, let alone in a full blown forest complete with having to hunt animals for food. "D-did you l-like to forest?" She had read about it in books, of course, and always wanted to go see one. "I n-never g-got to go out m-much before." Not only because of the orphanage but also because of her skin. But who knew, maybe a shaded forest would be easier than having to deal with the direct force of the sun.
"Um sure, though they might be scary, sometimes people can react a bit violently" she said wanting to make sure her new found sister knew what they were getting into. "It's insurance, see in this city their are a lot of times where damage can be caused by mutants, so we help them out if their is damage" she said explaining roughly what it was suppose to look like, though extortion was more acurate but she felt her sister did not need to know that quite yet.
"the woods were ok, but dangerous, but we were also fighting humans in the woods. Other then all the fighting and death the place was quite lovely" she said having enjoyed being out in the woods" she said honestly though she had learned to enjoy the fighting it was also true she was have preferred to not of had to do it and lose so many friends, still you did what you had to.
"That is kidn of sad, and the wood si was in would be less then friendly at night" she said thinking about taking her thare but realizing it would be a bad idea. "At night predators come out and it is easier for people to sneak up on you" she said honestly. Though night had it's advantages as well they were ones that her sister did not need to worry about quite yet. Aura did not understand all forests were not like her own.
Amber was starting to come to the conclusion that when it came to mutants, humans were often scary, mean and dangerous and it made her dedication both to finding out if she had a power and to learning to defend herself even stronger. At that moment she felt rather helpless but that was a situation she was used to in her rather short life. Her entire existence had been as it was only because of the influence of others. Now, she decided, it was time to change that. Here she was, with a new family and a new life, and she didn't want to be the victim anymore. She wanted to discover if she had a power, she wanted to be able to take care of her self and, most of all, she didn't want to have to rely on others any longer.
"M-maybe I c-can come when I d-discover m-my power?" Amber asked hopefully. Maybe right now she was helpless, but if she ever discovered that she actually had a power, then she wouldn't be helpless any more now would she? And what better way to learn to be in control than to dive right in, head first?
"B-but you h-have p-powers," Amber said in confusion. "S-surely n-no natural predator c-could harm you?" She understood why the humans would be dangerous but she didn't know how a cat, even a panther or a leopard, could really harm a mutant, especially not one who could both protect herself and attack with her power if need be. "M-maybe w-we should go t-to a forest w-without f-fighting." Because she knew from TV and books that most forests weren't war zones.
"You can come whenever you like, im simply warning you as sometimes i have to defend myself and draw some blood" she said admitting to the violence, which was a minor part of the job. she felt she could keep it low while her sister was around. After all no one would know she had no powers and so they might perceive the situation to eb worse then it was and just pay if they could. Her attatude also could do much for this more so if she did not enforce that night as well.
"My powers only work while i focus on them, dear sister, so while asleep a tiger or lion could eat me just as easily as a human. Everything has it's dangers but we must get through them to enjoy life and do what we must do. Fear is good to have so long as it does not control you": she advised with a smile. "If they have those, im game" she said though she idea of a large forested area without guns and murder was odd to her mentally it made sense, not every forest could ahve enough mutants and humans for it.
"This place was odd for me at first, i never had a real roof over my head that did not need to be taken down or that lasted very long. SO living here with free food and board was strange to me, but it grows on you, as do the people. Still you may wish to avoid wondering into bedrooms which are not yours, some people here, have had bad pasts and dont react well with others" she said having no ide aof her sisters previous confrontation.
